From Jazziz
Featuring three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz redefines the infectious spirit of jazz-oriented instrumental bossa nova. While virtually all of the early bossa trios were piano- or organ-led, Trio da Paz shifts the primary solo focus to guitar, providing the resourceful Romero Lubambo an opportunity to demonstrate his versatility and soloist's instincts.
For the guitarist and his cohorts, bassist Nilson Matta and drummer Duduka Da Fonseca, such bedrock Brazilian styles as bossa and samba are second nature. On tracks like Toninho Horta's wistful bossa "Luisa" and Matta's "Rosa," a sultry samba ballad sweetened by the plaintive cries of Da Fonseca's cuica drum, the trio demonstrates its mastery of dynamics, invention, and swing, all polished off with the air of genuine spontaneity.
This trio also excels at improvising within the demanding structure of such seldom-used rhythms as patrido alto and baio. On "P'ro Flavio," Lubambo incorporates dissonant chords and loping runs as Da Fonseca adds the steely pulse of the berimbau (an Afircan musical bow) to capture the baio's choppy gait. And on the title track, the trio throws in a touch of funk and some free blowing to the off-kilter feel of the song's unusual 15/8 tempo.

Album Description
A delicious new album from Rio's finest, 'Partido Novo' finds Azymuth in reflective mood. Covering a range of styles, with jazzy interludes and soothing Bossa Novas giving way to 70s space-age funk and traditional Brazilian sambas.
Partido Novo is their 5th album for Far Out. Still going strong they have added a special chilled touch along with plenty of gorgeous melodies and vocals. Partido Novo translates as broken or off-beat and accordingly tracks feature a dirtier, heavier sound with funky 70s soundtrack vibe as well as the usual samba magic with a mellow wistful summery twist. Blending past and present, this is a brand new album of broken funk and blissed out beats from Brazil's legendary group.

Partido Novo, Novo Beautiful.......2006-09-09
This is Azymuth's 5th CD with British label FarOut, and a great one. There's been so many attributes from Azymtuh, praised throught their other CDs, that is not necessary to do so again on this review;
I just want to point out that here you have a perefect example of the dual rhythmic tendency of Azymuth, shown since their first CD back in 1975. The relaxed Brazilian Jazz tunes (like: Tempo Classico, Rede de Espera, Algodao Doce) and the Funk/Samba Jazz they are used to please us with (Partido Novo, Duro de Roer, Em Marica, Nome Dele E Joan).
After "Pieces of Ipanema", I like this CD the best from their "new phase".
If you love Azymuth and Brazilian Jazz, you owe this to your collection before it becomes extint and OOP.

A Great Band.......2001-04-14
I just saw these guys play live at Birdland in New York City, and they were great. I haven't heard the CD, but if their performance last night is any indication, then this must be a marvelous record.
A Definitive Mix of Jazz with Sophisticated Brazilian Rhytms.......1999-08-13
"Partido Out" the newest release by Trio da Paz (Trio of Peace) is a classic of this genre. The music on this must have CD perfectly blends melodic and probing jazz lines with impeccably played and highly complex Brazilian Rhythms. The Trio is comprised of three of Brazil's greatest musicians and this CD shows them all off quite well. I am particularly partial to some of this CD's more melodic material as found in: "Luisa", "Rosa", "Song for Kaya" and a tune literally named after the group "Trio da Paz." This Cd is that rare combination of instrumental virtuosity paired with great music making.
