Pianist Vince Guaraldi is best known for his musical accompaniment to Charles Schulz's Peanuts cartoons, but he was also a successful jazz pianist until his death in 1976. Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete was a star in the bossa nova movement of the '60s who fell into obscurity before being embraced by the New Age crowd in the '80s. This reissue combines the pair's first collaboration, Vince Guaraldi & Bola Sete and Friends (from 1963), and their third and final collaboration, Live at El Matador (from 1966), on one 73-minute disc. Their light mix of bossa nova and bop jazz landed these songs in lounges across America back in the day--now they provide a snapshot of the '60s club scene as well as a greater spotlight on Sete's style, which gets generous attention on the fantastic '66 date, Bola Sete at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Guaraldi fans used to hearing his trio will find Sete's guitar to be a fine addition to the pianist's sound. Two sides of the same coin, the playing on Friends is tighter and moodier, while the live album shows the two stretching out in the traditional jazz sense. --Tad Hendrickson

These new recordings of mostly recent Gill compositions are the culmination of a project aimed at recording four distinct albums: rock, romance, vintage honky-tonk, and acoustic.
The Rockin' Record, virtually perfect from start to finish, begins with "Workin' on a Big Chill," its swampy groove straight out of John Fogerty and a showcase for Gill's guitar virtuosity--a groove he resumes on "Cowboy Up," with cameo harmonies from Gretchen Wilson. "Sweet Thing" and a duet with Rodney Crowell on "Nothin' for a Broken Heart" pulsate with Chuck Berry intensity that contrasts with the solid, '60s Memphis groove of "Bet It All on You."
The Reason Why showcases Gill's legendary ease with ballads, several of them enhanced by creative string arrangements by David Campbell (Beck's father), including "What You Don't Say" with LeAnn Rimes and "The Memory of You" with Trisha Yearwood. The stunning "Faint of Heart," a remarkably sultry jazz duet with Diana Krall, could become a standard.
Some Things Never Get Old revisits classic fiddle-steel honky-tonk, music Gill has long reverenced and referenced. "This New Heartache" is straight out of Ray Price. Gill and Patty Loveless tear up "Out of My Mind" and Allison Krauss and Dan Tyminski join in for the waltz "I Can't Let Go." "Don't Pretend with Me" honors Ernest Tubb's honky-tonk primitivism.
Little Brother, all-acoustic and often bluegrass-flavored, shines from beginning to end. Along with "Molly Brown," a stark cautionary about racial violence, Gill sings both "Cold Gray Light of Dawn" and "Give Me the Highway" with the Del McCoury Band. He and Guy Clark close it out with "Almost Home." Despite outstanding past efforts, Gill--one of the top hitmakers of the '90s--hasn't had a Top Ten single since 2000. No matter. His talents and the heart he puts into his writing, singing, and picking remain at their peak. This stellar collection proves it--four times over. --Rich Kienzle
Album Description
In an unmatched outpouring of virtuosity and energy, Vince Gill has created a 4-CD set of 43 new and original songs that MCA Records will release Oct. 17 under the title These Days. The collection is an artistic tour de force that displays Gill's mastery of lyrics and musical styles, ranging from traditional country and bluegrass to jazz and rock.
"I started looking at all these songs I had," the amiable superstar explains, "and going, `Shoot, I want to record that song, and I want to record that song.' I just kept checking with the other musicians to see if they were available. I had no deadlines, no rules or anything like that. So I just kept trying songs."
To accompany him on this ambitious undertaking, Gill turned both to artists he knew and had worked with before and to those whose music he admired at a distance. "I never try to fill up my records with famous people," Gill says. "I try to fill them up with the most talented people I can find on the face of the earth." By the time the project was completed, that group included Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall, Rodney Crowell, Phil Everly, the Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, John Anderson, Lee Ann Womack, Jenny Gill, Amy Grant, LeAnn Rimes, Gretchen Wilson, Guy Clark, Trisha Yearwood, Bekka Bramlett, Michael McDonald, steel-guitar master Buddy Emmons and many other musical standouts.
Initially, Gill planned to pare down the songs he'd recorded to a single album. Then, in one of the studios he used, he spotted some Beatles memorabilia and recalled that the Fab Four had routinely released multiple albums within the same year.
Gill took the idea to Luke Lewis, Universal Music Group Nashville Co-Chairman, who totally supported his notion of multiple releases. In fact, Lewis came up with an even more radical strategy: he told Vince to go and record more songs that explore his passion for acoustic sounds and release a 4-CD set. And that's exactly what happened.
Gill co-produced These Days with famed keyboardist John Hobbs and sound engineering whiz Justin Niebank.

These Days ~ Vince Gill.......2007-07-07
A lot of the songs are vintage Vince Gill. His guitar playing is nothing short of spectacular. The duets are wonderful. His guest singers blend well with Vince's, oh so sweet, tenor. I love the album, but give it only four stars because so many of the songs are featured on albums I already own.
Inspired by negative reviews.......2007-05-21
Before ordering this CD set, I read most of the reviews on Amazon. A couple of them were very negative. However, I just couldn't believe in a "bad" recording session from Vince Gill. Especially with the great stars who collaborated as guests on many of the cuts.
Well, the good news is the negative reports were just wrong. I like these CD's, there are four in the box set, more every time I listen to them. An excellent product and a great addition to any music collection that loves ballads, country, bluegrass, and yes: Vince!!
These Days by Vince Gill.......2007-05-13
This item is a must buy for all Vince Gill fans. We purchased it after seeing in Vince in concert. The concert was great, but you can't have that all the time. His range as a musician is evident throughout this 4 CD set. Plus, the musicians he surrounds himself with make this a must buy.
Vince Gill - These Days.......2007-05-13
I'm a long time fan of Vince Gill but this album is his best. A must have for any Vince Gill fan!!
Simply awesome !!!.......2007-05-12

Vince Gill's tenor combines the breathy intimacy of a whisper with the full-bodied tone of a belted gospel chorus. This is the best of both worlds, and Gill exploits his voice to make otherwise forgettable material sound like the catchiest of tunes and the most personal of confessions. The most striking song on When Love Finds You is "Go Rest High on That Mountain," which Gill wrote for his older brother Bob, who died of a heart attack after a hard life. Sounding like a processional from a church funeral, the song is simply constructed, but Gill fills it with the most passionate singing of his career, perfectly balancing sorrow and remembered affection. --Geoffrey Himes

Customer Reviews:
Mellow Ballads.......2007-02-09
Vince Gill has a nice voice, perhaps one of the best voices in country music today. Vince's voice is a perfect match to the mellow ballads on this CD. His vocal command of the songs is necessary in some cases to overcome mediocre songwriting. There are enough mellow ballads on this CD to make this CD a necessary addition to the collections of fans of Vince Gill, classic country and tender ballads.
This CD begins with "Whenever You Come Around." The singing is very good and gets even better in the chorus when Trisha Yearwood joins Gill. The music is simple and pretty with a nice bridge. Ignore the cheesy lyrics. This song was released as a single with "South Side of Dixie" and reached #2 on the Billboard country chart and #72 on the Billboard pop chart.
The second song is faster than the first and has better lyrics too. "You Better Think Twice" has a classic country sound and features additional vocals by Jonell Mosser and Billy Thomas. This song was released as a single backed by "Real Lady's Man," reaching #2 on the Billboard country chart.
The song "Real Lady's Man" has a solid classic country sound with the addition of a steel guitar played by John Hughey and a fiddle played by Stuart Duncan. The clincher is the vocal support of Alison Krause. The music is excellent, the singing is wonderful and the lyrics are very nice. This song is one of the better songs on this CD.
The song "What the Cowgirls Do" reached #2 on the country charts, backed by "Go Rest High on the Mountain." The music is reasonably good, and Gill sings the lyrics nicely, but the lyrics are very cheesy. However, this song is a great bar song when you are trying to line dance and your brain is turned off.
I have a soft spot for love ballads, and the #3 charting song "When Love Finds You" is a very nice love ballad. There are nice synthesizer touches in this song along with excellent guitar work. This song is another of the better songs on this album, boasting poetic lyrics. This song was released as a single backed by "If I Had My Way." This song gave Gill the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
"If there's Anything I Can Do" is a song of support that comes from love, but this beautiful song is all about the support and not about winning her heart. This song was the backing song to "Which Bridge to Cross (Which Bridge to Burn)," but I think this song is an incredible song with great music, lyrics and singing and is easily one of the best songs on this CD.
The pace speeds up significantly with "The South Side of Dixie." This song makes me want to tap my feet and jump around on the dance floor. This song is very competent and fun and makes a great party song.
Next up is another phenomenal ballad, "Maybe Tonight," which was the backing song on a single release featuring "Go Rest High on That Mountain" in 1995. This slow, mellow, moody song of longing matches "If There's Anything I Can Do" in terms of quality and style. This song is incredible, even if it is on the verge of being heartbreaking.
The song "Which Bridge to Cross (Which Bridge to Burn)" is another lovely ballad. This one is about trying to decide which love is the One. I love the music, I love the singing, but the topic bothers me. Either he screwed up the first time or he is in the "grass is greener" syndrome. Either way, it seems like one of two women and possibly both are going to get hurt. Songs like this are my least favorite songs because the singer got himself in this messy situation and I really do not want to know about it. It is a beautifully played and sung song, with vocal support from Dawn Sears, Billy Thomas and Jeff White. This song reached #4 on the country chart, backed by "If There's Anything I Can Do."
Gill weighs in on world peace with the ballad "If I Had My Way." This song is mellow and slow, and Gill's voice is wonderful. The lyrics are simple, but match the topic nicely. Amy Grant and Billy Thomas join Gill on the vocals. This song backed "When Love Finds You" in single release.
The final song on this CD is the gospel & blues influenced song "Go Rest High on the Mountain." I get a chill when I listen to this song. Patty Loveless and Ricky Scaggs provide additional vocals and the harmonies are phenomenal. This song was released as a single twice, the first time in May 1994 as the backing song to "What the Cowgirls Do" and the second time in August 1995 as the front song, backed by "Maybe Tonight," reaching #14 on the charts. Though this song did not fare as well commercially as the other songs released from this album, the Recording Academy and the Country Music Association rewarded Gill amply. This song won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song and the Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for 1995. The Country Music Association gave Gill the CMA award for Song of the Year in 1996. Both awards are well deserved.
This album was a landmark for Gill. He received numerous nominations in 1994, 1995 and 1996 for songs from this album, winning four awards in addition to being named the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year for 1995 (his fifth win in a row). The album reached #2 on the Billboard Country Music chart and #6 on the Billboard Pop Album chart. This CD does lean heavily to mellow music and ballads. However, most of the music is well done and the album is easy to like. You need this album for your Vince Gill collection.
Enjoy!
Over-rated.......2007-01-09
I personally feel that Vince Gill is over-rated as a country singer. It's knda like rooting for Pac 10 & Big 10 football , it's okay, if you don't know any better.
I bought this CD as a gift for my wife, who does love it !
Falling in love country-style.......2006-11-10
Almost every track is about falling deeply in love. Fabulous for new love, and even better for remembering why you fell in love in the first place!
Go Rest High On That Mountain.......2006-05-08
Vince Gill is one of my favorite country artists, he puts all his heart and soul in this song, dedicated to his brother's memory, we play this song "Go Rest High" Everytime a love one of our's have passed on. Just recently our nephew, who served in Iraq died on April 30th, 2006, in just knowing we could play this at the end of the service was a blessing to us, because we know he is resting high on that mountain. Thank You Vince, for such a wonderful well written song. And a comforting to others.
A voice from heaven.......2005-09-21
I was new to Vince Gill when i bought the european version of this album. The UK version have to bonus tracks Aint Nothing Like the real thing( Duet with Gladys Knight) and the Eagles cover I Cant tell you way. But the rest is the same.
Track 1 Whenever You Come around is if i you hybrid country with sweet lullabye music. Its also a gospel feel over the tunes but Vince Gill has a voice so clean and powerfull that it just hit you in your soul. I like the ballad`s best, but the more tempo tunes Like What the Cowgirls do Track 4, still kicks ass man. Track 7 South side of Dixie is the ultimate track if you want to take a swing. Its produced by Don Was which has created a clean and smooth soundpicture all trough the CD. All in all this is music you want when its cold outside. It makes you warm inside. More words to describe the CD is pointless. When the words stop, the music takes over.. A voice from heaven.

The first time you listen to this disc you will undoubtedly be transported directly back to your childhood. Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters will go toe-tapping and funky-dancing through your mind's eye. Play it a few more times, though (ignoring the dialogue snippets, if you can), and you will begin to truly revel in Guaraldi's wonderful, humorous, deep piano playing. You'll hear why he's such an influence on new age ivory tickler George Winston, but you'll also realize that Winston's holiday music never quite sparkles with the underlying passion, and humor, that twinkles in these grooves. Buy it for the nostalgia--keep it because it will remain one of the most enchanting albums in your holiday collection. --Michael Ruby

Novelist Robert Ludlum's amnesia-plagued, tough-as-nails spy/assassin Jason Bourne again proves that success begats sequels, be they literary or cinematic. As he did for the saga's initial big screen installment, composer John Powell concocts an electro-orchestral fusion score that seasons its tense, bristling rhythms with dollops of melodicism, synth-atmospherics and staccato string figures. Those welcome touches hearken back to composer's similar work on the '03 action-thriller The Italian Job, with Powell initially evoking the film's exotic locales by employing a savory synth pop-meets-Eastern European palate. The tension-building rhythms and percussion flourishes familiar from Powell's other action-centric scores are the score's musical pulse -- even if they eventually upset the finely honed balancing act by boiling over into the familiar explosive cliches of all too many thriller scores. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
If you liked the original soundtrack, you will love this one!.......2007-05-31
I wrote a very positive review of the soundtrack for "The Bourne Identity"...I was right to do so. This soundtrack; however, is even better!
What can I say...the wonderful musial selections to this great movie are all here...I suggest buying a copy now...if you are a Bourne fan.
One other note of interest...this sound track included Moby's song, "Extreme Ways" this time...an obvious oversight corrected from the last soundtrack
Excellent Listen.......2006-02-15
I enjoyed this soundtrack immensely. Having heard the background themes to the Bourne movies from the movie, I knew right away that I would like the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is mainly a combination of electronic and orchestral themes except for the last song by Moby, "Extreme Ways". Instead of basing the soundtrack on one or two main riffs, the pieces rely on multiple riffs. While in some respect I wished that John Powell could have expanded some of the pieces (like Gao), I was satisfied that there was enough genuinely unique material throughout.
Regarding the song-content on this album, there is mainly orchestral pieces as mentioned earlier. I did some research on-line and found that the song in the chase-scene of the first Bourne series, The Bourne Identity, is by Paul Oakenfold - 'Ready Steady Go'. Also, the club music in the second Bourne series, The Bourne Supremecy, is by Mocean Worker - 'IntoThinAir'. Two great artists that I hardly knew about before the Bourne series.
Best soundtrack I've listened to........2006-01-16
I listen to this album on my five-hour drives between home and college. You'd think I'd get tired of the songs, but I don't. The time goes very fast when listening to this album. However, several of the songs make me want to imitate the car chase sequence in the film. So, although this album is truly wonderful, drive carefully while listening to it.
Great music!.......2005-10-28
I have never bought a soundtrack before. This is my first. I just love this music! I can't get it out of my head!
Love the music--can't decide to buy.......2005-10-11
Does anyone know if the music from early in the film where Matt Damon is running on the beach is on here? Really want to find the artist/song name. Any help is appreciated.

The King of Countrypolitan.......2007-05-01
Vince Gill managed to carve out a long-lasting career in country by bucking the system that established so many country stars in the 90's. He never wore a hat. He rarely jumped to cliches when songwriting, and he always allowed his voice to convey the message of the song. Nowhere is that more emphasized than on "When I Call Your Name." It invokes the sound of timeless country, yet at the same time it utilized the slick production values that was turning Country Music into the dominant force of that decade (think George Strait and Garth Brooks).
The same goes for "I Still Believe in You" and "Look At Us," two of so many heartbreak ballad classics that Gill released on his first three MCA Nashville albums. Like "When I Call Your Name," they were CMA Song of The Year winners, and epitomize the silky smooth delivery that Gill has perfected. It's also why his duets here, with Dolly Parton on "I Will Always Love You" and Reba McEntire on "The Heart Won't Lie" (originally on a McEntire album), find his voice nestling perfectly with his singing partners. He makes feeling sad feel so good.
Gill is also adept at the country shuffle, like on "Liza Jane." Gill himself called this song his attempt at writing an Eric Clapton song ala "Lay Down Sally," and it showcases Gill's superb guitar chops. (Often overlooked next to his singing and songwriting.) Same goes for "Take Your Memory With You."
But the Oklahoma born Gill is still a California Country boy at heart (after all, he started his career with Pure Prairie League), and the moment that highlights that is his cover of "I Can't Tell You Why." His contribution to the tribute album "Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles" brings the Eagles' country sensibilities to the center and surrounds it with Gill's ever-so-sensitive singing, connecting the 90's country boom to its core audience of yuppies for whom the urbanized country called to them like "Hotel California."
Vince Gill's "Souvenirs" remains his best anthology, covering his most fertile period up to 1995. While there are a few more since then, this remains my favorite.
Souvenirs.......2006-12-06
Vince Gill has one the most unique voices in country music. He has a great range and can hit the high notes that few male artists can reach. Even though "Souvenirs" is not a greatest hits CD as such, it contains some of his very best. Included are "Never Knew Lonely", "When I Call Your Name", "Look At Us", "I Still Believe in You", and "Tryin' to Get Over You" which is a sad song with powerful words. Also included are 2 duets with superstar female artists Reba McIntyre and Dolly Parton. Reba joins him on "The Heart Won't Lie" while Dolly joins in with "I Will Always Love You". While not all of his greatest hits are on this CD it is well worth the price. This CD is highly recommended for all county music and Vince Gill fans.
Vince Gill.......2006-11-10
If you are a country music fan then this album is a must. This is the first album of Vince Gill's that i purchased, i've since purchased another three. His music and voice are just so good, that you just want to play it over and over again. This album is money well spent.
wonderful.......2006-11-02
Vince Gill has an amazing voice, and this album showcases it very well. Several of his best songs including "Tryin' to Get Over You," "I Still Believe in You," "Never Knew Lonely," and "Don't Let our Love Start Slippin' Away" and included on this great album. If you are a fan of Mr. Gill, you will love this album. It is a must-own too. I recommend it thoroughly.
High lonesome . . ........2006-06-24
A lot of water has passed under the bridge since this fine anthology of Vince Gill's earliest songs was first released, but it's a classic and sounds as good - even better - today as it did in 1995. Many excellent comments about this album have been made here already, and I'm seconding them with a nod to my favorites on the album:
Vince had a hand in writing most of the songs here, but the one that's the best recording for my money is the smooth-jazz crossover sound of the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why." Next is the wonderful rendering (and redemption after Whitney Houston murdered it) of Dolly Parton's heart-rending "I Will Always Love You." Her voice in a duet with Vince on this song is a perfect match of pure vocalizing.
Vince's high, clear voice seems best suited to songs of loss and yearning, and they comprise the majority of these songs, ranging from the starkly sad "When I Call Your Name" and the aching-sweet "I Still Believe in You." The up-tempo, rollicking "One More Last Chance" seems almost out of place in the company of such heart-felt musical ruminations.
The emotional quality of these songs is reflected in the awesome range of instrumentation, arrangements, and musicianship. There is a bit of honky-tonk, some country rock, and lots of pure country with soul-piercing roots touches. This is just a fine, essential album by a country great.

Thank YOU LORD for Amy.........2007-06-08
You know, I have to give the Glory to GOD in Jesus' name for HIS servant Amy - - I have been healed and inspired for twenty years because of her willingness to share the gifts and talents GOD gave her to impart HIS unconditional, unfailing, and never-ending love for each and every one of us. Her albums have kept me from losing faith altogether..many, many times. I praise GOD in Jesus' name for the beautiful music, flowing right through me....and for the knowledge that "anywhere with Jesus, I am not alone, anywhere with Jesus, I can safely go. Sweet WILL of GOD..Let me say once more..that I love YOU.
Touchs my soul.......2006-12-05
This album touchs all the spiritial feelings of ones soul. As I listen to this album, I can almost feel each song shift my emotions into a different gear. This is a great album to melt away the stresses of the day, while at the same time bringing an inner peace at the promise of tomorrow, by way of ones redemption in our renewal of faith. It is a beautifully produced album, and I am glad I have it in my collection. Re: the comments by "Christian Mom" It sounded kind of familiar. Almost like what a blacksmith would say when she would have an ax or two, too grind.
Inspiring...Thank you.......2006-08-31
What a wonderful album. Simple inspirational songs by a great singer. The execution is very professional...a hallmark of Vince Gill albums.
This album gives Ms. Grant another chance to showcase her beautiful voice w/songs on traditional church hymns. We all know that she's great at singing pop...but some of us don't like pop that much! I've grown up w/many of these songs in church, it's so happy to hear Ms. Grant sing them. Thank you, Amy & Vince.

There is no shortage of Motley Crue hits collections out there, but this one just might be the definitive. All the essentials are on disc one, which is generously crammed with choice cuts from the Aqua Net years, before Vince Neil outgrew the spandex and Tommy Lee found his true calling in amateur porn--from the sleek glam rock of "Too Fast For Love" and strip-club anthem "Girls, Girls, Girls" to the runny mascara ballad "Without You" and comedy hocus-pocus of "Shout at the Devil." Having just barely survived the '80s, the band gets inexplicably serious on the second half of the collection, delving into such utterly forgettable noise as "Planet Boom" and "Generation Swine." But there's no reason to fret--the compilation is merely doing its job and succeeds brilliantly in tracing the rise and fall of a band whose legacy is turning out to be far greater than anyone ever imagined. -- Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
I'll hand it to them..........2007-01-12
I feel odd even WRITING this review--even odder than I did when I picked up this CD set.
In short, I never liked Motley Crue in their heyday. When I was in high school, cranking up the Cramps or the Flesheaters on my Walkman, a friend of mine praised the Crue, while I thought they stunk. MTV didn't help either, rotating "Home Sweet Home" endlessly (and unfortuantely all of the hair rock power ballads to follow). While my friend Frank praised _Shout at the Devil_ and denied that there had ever been a band called Brownsville Station and insisted that "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" was an original Crue, I scoffed at his inferior musical tastes.
So why the hell would I even bother LOOKING at this collection? To tell you the truth, the omens came threefold--first, I got into Brides of Destruction. I saw the video for S.T.F.U. on Headbangers' Ball and loved it. When I got it, I found out that the outfit was lead by Nikki Sixx, and though it didn't make me like the album any less, I'd still grimace a bit and say to myself, "This band has a member of the Crue in it."
Then, when I went to see _Evil Dead: The Musical_, "Kickstart My Heart" was played during the intermission. Listening, I realized that this was one Crue song that I didn't mind so much when Frank forced some Crue on the turntable. In fact, I kind of liked it.
Last, this CD set was basically for free at a sale I came across at a CD store. Enough said--I figured that I could find at least two or three tracks that I liked.
But in listening to this collection, I've come to realize that the Crue was a band that suffered for its desire for fame. They can no doubt rock - "Kickstart My Heart" remains one of my favorites, and "Live Wire" is a juicy one. But other times their songs felt very off-the-mark, sometimes starting with a good hook but falling off very quickly. "Toast of the Town" was like this, as well as "Hooligan's Holiday," and "Planet Boom" just plain fizzled out. Some songs suffer for trying to sound too pop, and they just come across as empty.
I don't think this set turned me into a Crue 'fan,' nor am I sure that it was supposed to, and possibly a Cruehead may think that this collection is just blast after blast of Crue par excellence, but I did come out of it highly pleased with some select tracks, but also kind of thinking that they were a band who had the wherewithall to strike up hook after hook but forwhatever reason fell flat a lot of the time. Rather than distinguish themselves as a singular band in rock mythology, I think they ended up forging themselves as the prominent name of a name brand of rock, for though they proved themselves to be the better of the whole hair-metal pop-rock genre, they never fully came together to do solid music.
But then again, they had the fame, money, booze and women, and I was just a raging gutter punk, so they may be able to say that the last laugh was theirs.
The Greatest Hair Metal Band of all Time.......2006-11-10
For 25 years they have been the biggest hair Metal band of all time, now here is a great complation of all their head banging tracks & power ballads from 1981- 2005 with tracks brand new on this CD, the CD features classics like "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Dr. Feelgood" "Looks that Kill" "Home Sweet Home" "Too Young to Fall in Love" & many more on 2 discs, listen to your Crue music b4 ya see em' with America's greatest Rock 'n' Roll band AEROSMITH!!!
Thats the way!.......2006-09-14
Red White and Crue(2005)
Motley Crue was a band with a history Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee and Mick Mars deserve a great compilation.and yet the other compilations like decade of decadence(1991)and Greatest hits(1998) didnt do this band justice. Now comes a compilation that all bands should take notice of for the next compilation.Red White and Crue captures all of Motley Crue goin trough classics 80`s album like Too fast for love passing by the self titled album Motley Crue (1994)and Quaternary(1994 also) with John Corabi to finally come to New Tatoo(2000).
All of Motley is covered and surprinsignly the John Corabi stuff too.3 New songs were made for this album sick love song(appearently Tommy didnt play on it),if i die tommorow(Samplw Plan wrote it)and Street fighting man(a Stones cover).and there is also an unreleased song `Black Widow`from the too fast for love era that was never released. All album singles are here Dr.Feelgood known to be the best Motley album was represented 5 times on here getting most songs for one album.
The cover is enssentially a woman and its collered red and white and black. On the back there is a picture of the band. The booklet was well made with Crue members current pictures separatly and one togheter. The mini-biography of the band was good for a booklet mentionning Vince Neil was fired and more.At the end you see who wrote the songs wich songs were singles and the album the songs were on and its release date.
What else hasnt been said already?Thats right nothin`fellow Crue heads.Great for a fan and a newcomer great songs great package and all highly recomended forget about the other compilations.5 stars!
What Gives.......2006-05-31
What gives with every one putting down yet another hits collection from the Crue? Yes I love the Crue and as of right now no longer own there stuff sadly all my cd's of them where stolen and were the original releases before the re issues. This CD would be a great place to start a Crue collection for it covers every thing from 1978 to 2001 including remixes never released the J C years and 3 new tracks. Yes there are alot of songs that are missing but this is by far the best hits released to date by any band and for the price what the hell you can't go wrong. And as a moble disc jocky I'd take a greatest hits cd any day and leave the full albums at home.
5 stars for CD 1...Big fat Goose Egg for CD 2.......2006-05-16
Sometimes you just want a good mix of the good stuff. Can I just but CD 1 for half the price because I don't think a frisbee that says Red, White & Crue CD2 is worth $8.

He's best known, and deservedly so, for the jazzy music he wrote for Charles M. Schulz's "Peanuts" characters, but San Francisco-based Vince Guaraldi was also a highly regarded trio and ensemble pianist whose laid-back grooves are still a treat to hear. Greatest Hits samples his various stages, from big hits "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" and "Samba de Orpheus" to his work with Latin guitarist Bola Sete ("Days of Wine and Roses") to, yes, his beloved "Peanuts" compositions ("Good Grief," "Linus and Lucy," "Christmastime Is Here"). --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
A Most Fitting Tribute to a Jazz Legend Most Remembered as Charlie Brown's Muse.......2007-04-10
It's always a treat to hear the velvety smooth work of jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi and realize he was far more than cartoonist Charles Schultz's composer on those long-ago Peanuts TV specials, in particular, "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Guaraldi's style is so recognizable throughout each of these compositions that you feel you are in a smoky basement nightclub in the early 1960's listening intently to his trio with just a handful of other patrons. This 1989 compilation from Fantasy Records captures the highlights of his two decades of recording before his untimely death from a heart attack in 1976. The disc begins with his breakthrough hit, the rhythmically sauntering "Cast Your Fate Against the Wind" from his classic 1962 album, "Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus".
It ends with his two most famous songs - the infectious "Linus and Lucy" from "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" and the sonorous holiday classic "Christmastime is Here" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas". In between are a number of lesser known works of equal quality performed impeccably, most often with Bola Sete on guitar, Fred Marshall on bass and Jerry Granelli on drums. Several tracks have a nicely insinuating Brazilian influence such as the quietly mesmerizing "Star Song", the percolating "Outra Vez", the up-tempo "Samba de Orpheus" with its nice bass-dominated introduction, and the Latin-soaked scratcher on "Zelao". Guaraldi even tackles the Beatles' "I'm a Loser" and Henry Mancini's "Days of Wine and Roses" (spotlighting Sete's assured fretwork) with equal dexterity. My favorite track is the effusively performed "Ginza", which shows Guaraldi and Sete partnering most fluidly. This lush disc is a must for fans of both performers but in particular, Guaraldi for his singular style.
What a treasure!.......2007-01-19
I purchased four copies of this CD as gifts for my nearest and dearest. They all love it, some because they remember Vince Guaraldi from the 60s and one because she was raised in our home where the Peanuts gang, brought to life with Guaraldi's music, was as cherished as good jazz. There was a great article about Guaraldi in the Arts section of the 12/10/06 Washington Post which triggered this purchase. Give this music to someone special.
Great jazz piano.......2007-01-02
Vince Guaraldi was a great pianist who tragically passed away in 1976. "Linus and Lucy" is probably his most famous and probably most peolpe's favorite. The drums and bass in his band help add great sound and beat to the music. If you like piano jazz this is for you.
Technically great; technologically weak........2006-07-15
Recently having taken up the piano, I thought I would start listening to some piano music I'm familiar with from my childhood. Although everyone my age knows the Charlie Brown theme, I didn't know a lot about Vince Guaraldi. I decided to take a chance on this CD, and I was very happy I decided to explore his music. There's a lot of depth in his apparently simple melodies, his accompanists are awesome, and I was humming the music all day long. I had no idea this guy was this good! If for nothing other than pure musical inspiration, I'm sure this will help my piano playing a lot. For a nice listen to while eating dinner or driving to work, I just love it. My only complaint is I'm a bit disappointed with the "remastering" (if you can call it that). There are a lot of hisses, buzzes and pops, and sometimes, it just sounds like Vince couldn't find a real piano and borrowed my nephew's Fisher-Price jobbie. But all in all, it's easy to overlook (overlisten?) these shortcomings and derive a lot of pleasure from this wonderful piece of jazz history.
A Man Named Vince.......2006-05-20
So, yeah, I got into Vince Guaraldi as a little kid...of course, I didn't know much about the guy, hey, i was only seven whaddaya want? But I dug those Peanuts cartoons and I sure did dig that music and I never forgot it cuz when I got older I did some investigating and came across the man himself.
Vince Guaraldi is so understated. He is always eclipsed by the "Big Boys" of jazz; Coltrane, Davis, Mingus, Getz...but this dude is no shrinking violet, he stands on his own and in my opinion, he stands big enough where he can cast his own beautiful shadow on the crazy world of jazz where music is life and life is music.
We could say that his dying so young was a tragedy or we could simply say "Thanks" to a wonderful man who has given me so many beautiful moments with his beautiful playing. This music is suitable for a sunny backyard barbeque or a sultry night of passion. I can't believe I'm tearing up while writing this, I guess I always get a little bit emotional when I talk about my personal influences and yes Vince, you influenced me quite a bit...thanks, man and I know you're still playing wherever you are...

Legacy hyms and faith.......2007-01-17
great old hyms sung like an angel. amy grant at her best.
Okay....but good old hymns can stand on there own........2006-02-21
I have been a fan of Amy's for quite some time now. i was very pleased to see that she made the leap back to here roots in this CD, however, i was disappointed when Amy decided to break songs up. "It is Well" would have been more beautiful on it's own. Amy also did this with some other selections which didn't seem to do justice to some of these very old hymns.
Amy in my opinion did it right on the second CD of old and favorite hymns letting each song stand on its own. It was far more pleasing to listen to the second CD.
Hymns with style.......2006-02-14
As Amy Grant fan, I pretty much love everything she does. However, this album did a good job of bringing new life to some old favorite hymns. While I enjoy listening to this at home, I find that I will often use it for background music at church (gathering, communion or after the service). It is a great album for pastors to have in their collections as well as Amy Grant fans.
Old Country Churches.......2006-01-22
This is a wonderful collection of old time Christian songs of faith from Amy Grant. Magnificently produced by husband Vince Gill, it is at once artistically beautiful yet simply presented so that the words of faith are not overpowered by the productions. Grant made this album to commemorate her roots in Christian music and has lovingly rendered all those songs she sang as a child in church with her grandmother in a manner that would make her proud. It is gentle and soulful and the selections are perfect.
1) "This is My Father's World"-This song has a ferris wheel kind of rhythm that ponders on the happiness of living in God's world in all its beauty.
2) "My Jesus, I Love Thee"-There is a Scottish Highland kind of feeling to this selection as Amy sings of love for Jesus.
3) "Softly and Tenderly"-Amy perfectly captures this haunting call for the weary to "come home" to God.
4) "I Need Thee Every Hour/Nothing But the Blood"-The heartfelt "I Need Thee Every Hour" blends effortlessly into the rollicking tent revival duet of Amy and Vince on "Nothing but the Blood" that will have you feeling as though you should be up on your feet and clapping your hands together.
5) "What You Already Own"-I am not sure if it was intentional or coincidence, but I could not help thinking of how Amy was abandoned by some in the Christian community for not being perfect. This gentle lament of sometimes being unfaithful and doing wrong and looking to God for strength shows his spirit remains with those with faith, which is played out by our lives.
6) "It is Well With My Soul/The River's Gonna Keep on Rolling"-This beautful blending of songs has a flow like a river itself as Amy sings of God's love being like a river that keeps forgiving and makes us realize it is not possesions that are our legacy, but ourselves.
7) "Do You Remember the Time"-This song is a longing for the innocence we all once had and an encouragement to hold on to how we once felt, when we were kids, and heaven seemed real.
8) "Fields of Plenty/Be Still My Soul"-A melancholy guitar solo turns into a haunting admonition to leave things in God's hands, culminating with a voice over by Amy that is heartrending.
9) "Imagine/Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus"-Amy's imagining what it will be like to see and be in His Glory ends in the brief ode to her love of Jesus.
10) "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"-This great church hymn with it's terrific background vocals and country flavor makes you feel like you driving by an old country church during a different era.
11) "Fairest Lord Jesus"-This is a guitar driven song of uplifting praise, and once again, makes you think of being in church.
12) "Holy, Holy, Holy"-This is a beautiful song of love for God that is like looking out over a glorious vista of His creation.
13) "What a Friend We Have in Jesus/Old Rugged Cross/How Great Thou Art"-Traditional church songs are beautifully melded together and offer a nostalgic longing for the faith of simpler times.
14) "Marching to Zion"-The ending of a church service and that Scottish Highland feel return as Amy ends this wonderful album with an uplifting church hymn, choir and all.
This is a truly wonderful collection of songs born of faith that has a special feeling of old churches in the country and gatherings in small towns to sing praises. It is a very special CD that crosses boundaries and can be enjoyed by anyone who loves music.
It is a reminder to those of us who are jaded and world weary, who have stood next to the darkness and in it, who have seen a little too much, that good still does exist, as does hope.

Among the early '60s wave of American jazzmen entranced by Brazilian music, none proved more ebullient than pianist Vince Guaraldi, whose homage to a 1959 film retelling the Orpheus myth as an underclass Rio de Janeiro romance proved a sleeper hit. With Guaraldi's fleet, always rhythmic piano driving these concise trio settings, Black Orpheus remains a seductive delight, probing the then-exotic push and pull of samba with glee, but leaving ample room for more contemplative ballads that remain deeply affecting more than three decades after the album's release. Luis Bonfa's and Antonio Carlos Jobim's music was the seed for the project, yielding a percolating "Samba de Orpheus" and the haunting ballad, "Manha de Carnaval," but the album's best-known performance remains Guaraldi's own wistful and swinging "Cast Your Fate to the Wind." A surprise single hit in 1965, the song would later receive a more expansive pop cover, but it's Guaraldi's original that remains the superior performance--a wordless romantic reverie that speaks volumes in Guaraldi's tender verses, muscular choruses, and romping bridge. --Sam Sutherland

Hold the Peanuts.......2007-04-18
Vince Guaraldi cranks out music like few others. What makes him special? Aside from his trademark "crushed tone thirds," he delivers at multiple levels. I can be swept away by the joy, bouncing with the beat, or running to my piano room to practice when I hear this CD. There are no lulls. Guaraldi's playing, masterful as it is, is all about the listener's experience, not about the player's chops. If you've enjoyed hearing him you-know-where, but want to experience him without thinking of you-know-what, he brings the same kind of positive energy to this CD as he did to the characters of you-know-who.
Vince Guaraldi....A giant among jazz pianists.......2006-03-22
This item is absolutely wonderful. Wonderful interpretation of the Black Orpheus theme. I miss Vince Guaraldi since his early death. What a loss. But we have him on these old wonderful albums so we are blessed to be able to hear his fantastic talent. Try his Charlie Brown album & at Grace Cathedral. Two classics that I would also recommend.
More Goodness.......2006-02-24
Our family enjoys the Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi. This CD has several tracks that equal that performance
Fantastic Fate.......2006-02-17
A wonderful cd. Cast Your Fate to the Wind is worth the price of admission alone. A joy to listen to.
A Classic Album.......2005-12-25
"Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus" was the breakthrough album for Vince Guaraldi. It's a classic jazz trio playing in the then-popular bossa nova style. Mr. Guaraldi is a master of the piano, playing in a laid back, flowing style that is a joy to hear. People are most familiar with the mega-hit "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" but the other cuts are just as good and will haunt you for days after hearing them. All-in-all, a classic jazz album that belongs in every afficianado's collection.
