Great stuff from the Kingston Trio!.......2005-11-16
If you longed for some wonderful music from the Kingston Trio then you will enjoy this compilation. They are known for their other hits "Tom Dooley", 'Worried Man", "M.T.A". The selections are first rate. Personal favorite.."Jug of Punch". You'll enjoy them all!!
This is Serious!.......2005-09-20
This is truly a delightful collection. Some Woody Guthrie folk staples such as the classic "This Land is Your Land" (which I always thought would be the ideal national anthem) as well as a good mix of other creations makes this one unique.
The pre-Beatle early 1960s were best defined by the wonderful protest songs; songs of social injustices and the issues that resound to this day. The Kingston Trio, in addition to being just a damn good folk trio also had a wonderful sense of humor, as evidenced in the song, "M.T.A." The songs play the emotional range, from the very sad "500 Miles" (might make you cry), "Reuben James," "Scarlet Ribbons" and "Lemon Tree," which helped make them household names to the very cheery "Greenback Dollar" and "M.T.A." as well as many of the songs on this collection.
If you think these folk masterpieces sounded good on vinyl (and they DO), just listen to how clear, crisp and sharp they sound on CD! You are in for a listening treat. I'll pray for something like this to come along again - as for folk, it is deeply intwined in our consciousnesses; our history and our lives. Folk, which is a musical version of story telling is an excellent unifier - it brings people together. From its early days during the Depression where union workers sang of their rights to the 1960s demonstrations to the world we have today, folk has been a multicolored common thread that has kept the world listening.
Fell out of my seat!.......2004-07-02
Well, this last year I decided to swallow my pride and join the Compact Disc revolution, and this is the first Compact Disc (C.D.) I purchased. I didn't know much about the band but was impressed by the "trio" part of their name-I've always been annoyed by bands where you don't know how many people are in them (see, for instance, the Beatles). I was pleasantly surprised to find this is a great C.D. They obviously put a lot of work into it-some songs even have more than one instrument is playing at a time!
I was so enrapt with this C.D. that I invited my friends over to share a can of Pringles and played this C.D. while we sat around (one of my friends, David, jokingly suggested that I turn up the music so he wouldn't have to hear my voice!). Honestly, folks, the first time I popped this C.D. into my Sony C.D. Player I was so excited I fell out of my chair and landed smack dab on my cat (I make sure to lay down on the couch when I listen to it-sorry Whiskers!).
Make Way for Kingston Trio Goin' Places.......2002-12-05
A combination of one fair album by my favorite group with one of their better ones. "Make Way" has none of their more outstanding efforts, although "Blow The Candle Out" is good.
"Goin' Places" has several of their best: "Coast of California" and "It Was A Very Good Year" (long before Sinatra) are both superb.
If you are a KT fan, this is a good buy. If not see some of the other collections.
Superb trip down memory lane.......2002-07-29
Here are brought together on CD two memorable albums of one of the hot vocal acts of the early 1960s. The Kingston Trio had established their reputation with such hits as Tom Dooley, Tijuana Jail, M.T.A., and A Worried Man. In the wake of that success, these were albums among those in which they best perfected their talent for collecting together lesser-known gems for discerning listeners.
There are those who say that old vinyl records sound better than CDs, but I for one just can't see where they are coming from. I had heard these albums on their old vinyl versions, but hearing the songs anew on this CD unlocked a new clarity and richness to these performances for me. The vinyl-purist attitude must be at best for a few sticklers for the old records in perfect condition and only the best of equipment for playing them. But for the rest of us even the most modest of CD players can give to musical treasures like these a sound quality exceeding anything we've likely ever heard from vinyl. That makes it a real breakthrough to now have these performances available on CD.
This disc is a window into some of the unique music of the last days of a more innocent era of the early 1960s, before the turbulence of the later 1960s would mean that nothing, including our music, would ever quite be the same again.

This album has, though it's playfull sound, some important messages to deliver. I promisse your ears will love this album! Michael uses his voice in a fun and interesting way and thats what he's doin here 2! This album is really not only goin places, its also going high on my musiclist!
THE KING OF MUSIC.......2005-06-16
I don't personally own this cd or album but I love every song that Michael does cause a lot of his song u can feel heart & soul even @ a young age u can hear it in his music
"I'll Be There" it just the feelin' that sometimes girl need 2 her.Michael in my eyes is the best singer dancer composer song writer all over the #1 singer that lives and will live in his fans soul fo'ever cause he has this voice that is ENCREDABLE. Nobody can do anything like him,he is like a 1 time thing only one person can do songs like "THRILLER" "BILLIE JEAN" "BAD"
"WHO IS IT" "EARTH SONG" and more songs only one person can sing songs like that a beats that u can remember fo'ever and ever. He is not the DA BEST OUT THERE IN MUSIC AND DANCE. I love his moves , his music, the style that he moves that are like a flawless diamond. Moves so smooth like chocolate milk so smooth and good and never can let u down. This cd or album I love the song "GOIN' PLACES".
A Hidden Gem .......2005-02-11
This is The Jacksons second album for epic and producers Gamble and Huff. It would be their last with Gamble and Huff but together they made a great album that doesnt get the play it should. Music's Takin Over, Different Kind of Lady and Do What You Wanna are great, catchy dance tracks. The real greatness here lies in the ballads where Michael's voice is in peak form. Even Though You're Gone and Find Me A Girl are classic ballads. So good, I feel that Find Me A Girl is probably the best Michael Jackson song you've never heard. This is probably Michael Jackson's most overlooked album and its one of his best! The Jacksons all sing together great and you can see why Destiny and Triumph were such big hits after this one was recorded. Overall, great ballads, catchy feel good dance tracks, and Michael Jackson singing his heart out. Get this, you will not be dissaponted.
LITTLE-KNOWN JACKSONS GEM.......2004-12-12
It took the internet for me to learn about this Jacksons release from 1977. I do not understand why it didn't do better. From the opening track to the catchy title track, DIFFERENT KIND OF LADY, and others, we have a fine collection of Jackson tunes with the help of Gamble and Huff. By this point, the Jacksons were more than capable of doing their own thing and by their next release, they proved it with the sensational DESTINY.

I love this CD a true hidden gem right here at in Ohio
goin places.......2006-11-10
Goin Places is a soul filled CD. The music was a cut above all other Smooth Jazz. I enjoyed it.
Still Love It in Oct 2006.......2006-10-17
I just read Sandy's review (I hate that she beats me to it but she is the pro). I bought the CD via Amazon's used service. I bought it since I kept seeing Gary's name pop up as a supporting artist for other artists whose music I like. But rather name those atists, I focused on this project.
You will hear a variety of styles which demonstrates his incredible versatitlity. There are the strong electric guitar tunes like the first title "Riverside Drive" to acoustic guitar track 2 "Don't Ask My Neighbors." Of course track 2 features the sax of Kirk Whalum and the interplay just adds another dimension to the tune (my favorite on the whole project). The entire CD is filled with similar treats. Enjoy!!
Smoothjazz.com Review.......2004-10-21
You can tell from the first few notes of the first track, "Riverside Drive" that this is going to be a hot album. Guitarist Garry Goin's early exposure to virtually all kinds of music in his childhood home in Cleveland to his gigs more than a decade ago on Memphis' historic Beale Street have had their influence on this outstanding musician. It's been the long, productive association with renowned producer/composer/arranger David Porter, though, that has really prepped Garry for this, his debut solo album. The most recent success prior to the release of GOIN' PLACES was as co-writer/producer of Kirk Whalum's recent top ten release, "Into My Soul." The first single from GOIN' PLACES is a great new version of the Emotions' hit, "Don't Ask My Neighbors," featuring Kirk on saxophone. This tune's a hit all over again, with its catchy hook and solid Smooth Jazz performance. There'll be many more to follow from this disc, too. I really like the opening track, the one I mentioned earlier ("Riverside Drive"), along with the gentle ballad, "Will You Marry Me," an especially cool, rhythmic treatment of the Bill Withers classic, "Ain't No Sunshine"...probably the freshest take on this one I've heard...and another hooky hit-to-be, "So-N-2-U." When you hear the proficiency of Garry's playing, the production values, the writing, and the overall musical quality of this album, you'll agree with me that "GOIN' PLACES" is a prophetic title for this great new project and this exciting new Smooth Jazz star. ~Scott O'Brien

This Cd/album is BY FAR the best Michael Henderson has ever had...... TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH HIM ABOUT DOCUMENTARY........

His best project.......2005-01-08
IMO, this is Michael Henderson's best cd/lp. Henderson was a major force during his run in the 70's and 80's and he was never better than Goin Places.
very Versatile Cat.......2004-10-07
Michael Henderson is One of those Musicians that you feel everyone should know about. the Brother started out way back in the day doing session work&then made a Solo Career.this Album is tight.Vocals are on Point.strogn arrangements&production. Michael Henderson makes a Bass talks&the versatility on His Vocals will just leave you going WOW!
music at it's best!.......2002-08-13
Micheal Henderson is one of the best, yet least know bass players in the world. The is Micheal at his best with songs like "let me love you." Micheal bass riff in that song has been sampled by numerous r&b and hip hop acts! This is just an all around classic piece of music.
micheal henderson going places.......1999-12-28
a writer, a guitarist and a soloist on many of norman conners' productions, micheal henderson is truly one of the great r&b crooners. velvet-voiced with a subtle falsetto at times, he brings his fluid style to the listener. Let Me Love You asks without begging and he shines on the duet At The Concert with the fabulous Roberta Flack. This cd is definitely a mellow gem in my collection
