5 out of 5 stars This is Heaven.......2003-03-11

John Digweed leaves off were Renaissance 1 ended. This collection, though long out of print really exemplifies why I got into this music in the first place. The mixing is spectacular and here in 2003 some of the songs sound outdated. However, this compilation accurately captures a moment in time in dance music history and shows you a little of what things were like in 1995. This is truly uplifting progressive house. I own all the early renaissance mixes and this one still touches me in that special way and just gets me up wanting to dance. If you can, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed. This one includes all the classics with sexy vocals. Its very contemporary still. Cheers!! rock the vote:)

4 out of 5 stars Master Composers of an Electronic Music Movement.......1999-06-12

This album line is amazing. If you missed out on R1, you're screwed. I haven't heard anything as imaginative, new, or breathtaking as this collection of music, in a long time. You ever not really get music, then suddenly you find an entire collection of stuff that makes you smack your head and go, "Oh, I TOTALLY understand."

Understandably most people think that all electronica sounds the same, but the collection is more challenging that your average tweeker music.

5 out of 5 stars A breakthrough progressive house mix by dj John Digweed.......1999-01-11

The first Renaissance cd set established Sasha and John Digweed as pioneers in the mixing of what was then a new sound in dance music, progressive house. This second set, mixed solely by Digweed, goes further toward establishing the distinctive styles and sounds associated with the "Renaissance sound." Artists such as Blue Amazon and Robert Miles are heard by a wider public here for the first time. The mixing is superb, the tracks infectious. For those who are enamored of rhythmic, melodic, hypnotic dance music, this set must be considered a classic.

4 out of 5 stars UK CLUB MIX AT ITS BEST.......1998-11-26

SUPERB, THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS RENAISSANCE AND ALL THE OTHER'S BAR THE ORIGINAL (SADLY NULL AND VOID) IT DOSNT QUIET KICK YOU BACK IN TO NOSTALGIA MODE FOR A PARTICULAR CLUB NIGHT YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AS SOON AS YOU HEAR THE MIX AND "THE RECORD" JUST UPLIFTS YOU.

5 out of 5 stars Digweed once again proves that he's the man of the hour.......1998-10-03

John Digweed is back at it with his Renaissance 2 album. A continous groove of sound and trip-hop, Digweed masterfully combines each song and knows how to fit them together like a jigsaw puzzle. If u have or haven't heard of Digweed, this is a must album for anybody who likes to get the dance groove on.

I'm just so glad that a compilation exists like this. Takes me back to the end of the 80's and early 90's and that was a damn fun time! Thanks Renaissance for putting these Classic together. I now have some of my favorite classics like D:Ream's "You're the Best Thing"...never thought I'd own this out-of-print song!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars absolutely breathtaking.......2001-09-19

The night my fiance and I fell in love we were listening to this cd set, so naturally it has special meaning to me. It is absolutely beautiful-both cds. It's really deep, intense, smooth, rhythmic trance. I have been looking for this cd for a year and a half. I'm so happy I finally found it here!

5 out of 5 stars Renaissance's diverse flavorful beats amaze me.......2000-09-07

If you like smooth, classy, styley beats then the sound of Renaissance is for you. All Renaissance cds have their own feel and always ( except for the coming to America album ) feature two, to three completely different DJs. This CD is one of the more impressive ones. Dave Seaman Starts out the first disk with a tribal progressive house sound, that smoothly glides it's way into a progressive remix by Garbage that winds it way into track 9 ( I forgot the name! whoops. ) which maticulusly blends into a choice drum and bass track, and then closes out with an uplifting heartfilled track by Lamb.

Then Robert Miles comes on. I had heard Robert Miles before this album and expected his set to be a completely 'fluffy' dream trance voyage, but is instead some of the best psy trance I've ever heard. He starts out with a touch of melody that tears it's way into Nick Warren's Way Out West and goes from there with some of the most creative in your face psy trance I've ever heard making this album a must have for anyone who appriciates a good progressive house set with a screaming psy trance close out.

4 out of 5 stars three hours of good dance music.......2000-05-18

Considering that this compilation contains three CDs, the price, in reality, is not that bad. All in all, I think some people here are a bit too harsh on this compilation. CD1 is a pleasant mix of what is essentially remixed disco tunes (at least that is what they sound like to me). Almost every song follows the same outline: cliched lyrics, female vocal, soul and disco sounds, relentless beat. As dated and simple as all that sounds, it is fun to dance to. The other two Cds get a bit more serious. Dave Seaman rules, as always. The first two opening tracks on his CD are nothing special but they are very short and serve simply as an introduction for what is to come. As usual, Seaman's selections are good, although I think that his Renaissance Awakening CD is considerably better. BT's mix-and this is where I probably differ with most of the reviewers here-is perhaps the best of the three. Except track 10, all the tracks are good. Even the couple of songs that are mediocre by themeselves work well as part of the mix. Very enjoyable compilation. Also, there seems to be some confusion on this page because some reviews are about the London edition with Dave Seaman and Robert Miles.

4 out of 5 stars Good, if you like a little variety.......1999-12-08

This was the first CD I got from Rennaissance, being attracted to the BT mixed CD. Morales's mix is good house with some soul overtones in the beginning, not bad if you're into house. I love the way the Seaman CD has the good base of trance, but then incorparates 2 great songs by Howie B. and DJ shadow at the end, it's a nice treat to hear the bridge from trance to Shadow's unique hip-hop. The BT disc, which was actually mixed on ProTools and not a turntable, has some low points but overall it's not bad. The overall vibe is prog trance but has a little variation. I love the version of Godspeed that ends the compillation.

I have too many mixes to compare to this, other than Sasha, but I'd say it's worth 30 bucks if you can tolerate old-fashioned house and a few other influences next to your trance. If not, buy Oakie or a Sasha mix.

3 out of 5 stars Decent but below standard for Renaissance.......1999-03-04

Renaissance has a stunning track record, and prides itself on cutting-edge tracks. That's commendible, even when it doesn't work.

This 3 CD set is an import and thus very expensive. Before you buy, check out the other Renaissance Worldwide releases, the London mix and Volume One. Both are far superior in consistancy and mixing. The Singapore set isn't bad, but not really worth the price.

Disc One, David Morales, is very housy and not really my taste. Some of the songs kick in the booty, but I've never listened to this CD the whole way through...too many wailing women, too 'cheesy'.

Disc Two by Dave Seamen is very good, and a bit more esoteric than his London mix. The last third of the CD really opens up, espicially the Garbage remix.

Disc Three by BT is OK, but has its faults: he extends some of these songs too long without variety, and on other songs he 'layers' the sound a little too thick, marring great tunes like 'Bad Girl.' This CD ends very strong.

Better than most 'techno' released in the US, but not on a par with other releases on this label. Kudos for experimentation, though.

5 out of 5 stars Renaissance at its finest.......2002-05-04

This CD box is one of my all time favorites. Dave Seaman's mixes on the first 2 disc are absolutely superior work. The mixing is seamless and the track selection represents some of the best music of the time. Excellent tracks are Deep Dish - Stay Gold, Garbage - Queer, and Sarah McLachlan - Possesion. Also there are classics by Sasha, Bedrock and Paul Van Dyk. What really stands out with this set is the 3rd disc by Ian Ossia. It is purely incredible!! It is every bit as good as the first two discs in this collection and possibly better. Why? The flow is so smooth. Also, this is just a happy CD. Definitely a disc to play when you love life. It starts with Land of the Living by Kristine W which is breathingtaking in its gratitude. Shortly after we come to Let there Be Light which touches on the basic need for Love and Goodness in our lives. From there it keeps going, maintaining the energy that it starts out with and consistently builds. Twelve good and longs tracks of pure bliss. this one is getting a little rarer now so pick it up if you can. Enjoy!! rock the vote :)

4 out of 5 stars Dave Seaman is Incredible.......1999-08-16

Dave Seaman's mixes are absolutely brilliant. Great track selection and awesome mixing. Ian Ossia is not in the same league but the collection is a must-buy for the Dave Seaman disks. Also check out his superb Renaissance America disk.

5 out of 5 stars Dave Seaman mixes a great set!!!.......1998-06-24

I just bought this 3-CD set and what a storming compilation it is. Seaman mixes a really great selection of music that's definitely transcending.

His first CD is excellent. The second not as good as the first, but still good to say the least.

Ian Ossia's mix isn't really that bad. You just grow out of it very fast. It doesn't retain the "extra go" and originality that Seaman puts into a remix.

Quality Music. None of that horse garbage you see in the stores like Dance Mix USA. This CD is worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece by Dave Seaman, Get It........1998-06-18

Great Cd set. Smooth, fresh, and never boaring, I highly recomend it. Dave Seaman make the set.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best dance albums in my collection.......1998-05-17

Dave Seaman's remix is extremelly "worked on", extremelly professional. I have rarely heard mixes that meld so well, he truly manages to tell a story through the remix.

        A record for the "enlightened".

His second mix is good, although not as "out there" as the first one. Ian Iossa's mix deserves a "no comment".

Trust me, get it! plus the cover work is very good.

          1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.......2003-01-14

          Don't!
This is a compilation CD, combining a few studio tracks from "Michael Dunford's Renaissance" (CD: The Other Woman) & live tracks from a Renaissance-hybrid (Renaissance - Live At Philadelphia). There is nothing new here. If you must have Renaissance recordings I would get the 2 CDs from which this compilation is made.
Its only saving grace is that it avoids the weaker songs of the other CDs.
