Product Description
This trio set with bassist Charnett Moffett and drummer Kenwood Dennard features the tapping guitarist Stanley Jordan during a typical live show from 1990 playing many songs that he had previously recorded. While "Stairway to Heaven" is treated as very credible rock and "Lady in My Life" gets funky, "Autumn Leaves" really cooks and Jordan fares well on "Stolen Moments" (during which he does a strong imitation of a keyboard) and "Impressions." Jordan's lone original, the rockish "Return Expedition" is at 15 minutes way too long and serves primarily as an opportunity for his two fine backup players to take lengthy solos. Jordan's unaccompanied display on the concluding "Over the Rainbow" finishes an interesting program.

Album Description
Well known as a Contemporary Jazz artist, with his previous CD "Peter Storn Project" having earned critical acclaim, Peter Storn is taking a slight detour with his new outing. This Live CD has the group focussing more on their jazz roots this time around, while still giving some of the music a few contemporary twists here and there, which followers of the band will be more familiar with. Here, the Peter Storn JAZZ Project digs into exquisitely reworked versions of music by Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Oliver Nelson, as well as one composition by the new "Acid Jazz" band Count Basic. The musicians take the opportunity to stretch out and open up their playing more, delivering some inspired interplay and improvisation in a "LIVE & let loose" concert hall setting. Guitarist Peter Storn is found integrating the warm sounds of a full-body jazz guitar on a majority of the cuts. Going from exuberant to introspective back to joyful, this new CD is classy, sophisticated and exciting, and it shows the wide ranging artistic depth of the Peter Storn Project. Musicians: Peter Storn - guitar (Dennis Rowland, Cliff Sarde, Russell Ferrante), Terry Anderson - sax (Sam Moore of 60's Sam & Dave fame, Billy Preston), Raul Yanez - piano & keys (CPR Orchestra), Rich Reed - drums (Angela Bofill, Chaka Khan, Sophie B. Hawkins), Justin Brotman - bass (Dennis Rowland, Young Sounds of Arizona), Mario Mendivil - bass (Marion Meadows, Four Tops, Nelson Rangell). Other Info: - Voted "Best Guitarist" in the "Best of Arizona Jazz 1999" poll in AZJazz Magazine. - Voted "Best Jazz Band" in 1997 in the Arizona Music Awards. - Part of the team winning a Rocky Mountain Emmy Award for 1998-1999, by the Arizona Chapter of NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences), for film music in "Visions of Arizona," a unique PBS special (KAET-TV) on breathtaking aerial photography, with composer Cliff Sarde.Customer Reviews:
