A lot of 70's Music.......2005-09-20
If you really like 70's themes, you should like this CD. It was a little too dated for me.
Bond and beyond on an excellent career retrospective........1998-08-25
Imitation is often considered the greatest form of flattery. John Barry's oeuvre has been sampled by dozens of contemporary musical artists, and he is often credited as being the godfather of "trip hop" (check recent albums by Portishead and Mono to hear the Barry influence). The Academy-award winning composer has been producing music for over forty years, but this collection focuses on the artist's most commercially successful period, the 1960's. The instantly recognizable and inimitable Barry style is well documented throughout 23 varied compositions. Selections range from classic to obscure, and include all the title tracks from the early James Bond soundtracks. Barry's film and television music is the defining sound of that era - lush orchestrations, cool jazzy riffs, pure excitement. "Themeology" is an excellent starting point for the novice collector and equally attractive for the long-time admirer.

good compilation for introduction.......2007-03-21
This certainly isn't the "Ultimate" (neither best nor complete compilation of) Secret Garden, but it contains melodies that defined the Secret Garden. This is a good introduction to Secret Garden. Unlike the DreamCatcher, this album actually contains three unique tracks that you won't be able to find elsewhere - Swan (track #4), Hymn To Hope (track #19), Song From A Secret Garden (track #20). All three of those tracks are sung by a Korean soprano, and her voice is simply amazing. The applauses on the 2nd CD are annoying though.
get allured on some of the best emotion triggering songs.......2007-01-14
I was around 12 yo when I first heard about Secret Garden on the 1995 Eurovision song contest when they won the first place with the Nocturne. I was allured by the magnificent sounds I have never heard that far in the pop/tecnho/trance of the 90s. Secret Garden is the reason I since then dream to learn how to play the violin, and although I never succeeded in that goal, I hope that one day me or my kids will make that dream come true. Nocturne was a special, different song but managed to win in a stereotypical music contest and expanded the limits to the present days. Secret Garden's music is surely not only celtic, nor new age or classic, its a mixture of all, combined in the most pleasant way. It manages to fill my soul with emotions each and every time I listen to a song and brings a smile to my face each time I spot a secret garden's song in a movie or a tv series on the "wordless" romantic/emotional scenes where emotion is suposed to flow on the air. I recomend this cd as a good start of secret garden's music.
Wonderful compendium of Secret Garden's music, but not the best..........2005-11-11
This is a haunting and ethereal disk with many of the songs that have made Secret Garden so loved - by the people who love Secret Garden, that is. There is of course always those folk who don't see the simple beauty of the music, like the previous reviewer who felt compelled to classify it in some way. Secret Garden defies classification.
That being said, I believe I would have to recommend the CD "Dreamcatcher" instead of this one if you're seeking a compendium or "Greatest Hits" type recording. Both CDs have most of the same titles, with a couple extra on this one. The only advantage to "Ultimate Secret Garden" is the beautiful mezzo voice of the featured Asian Artist. I don't have the CD case in front of me so don't know her name, but her voice is amazing.
The versions of most of the songs are pretty similar, except that a number of the ones on disk 2 of this set are from live performances; the renditions are weaker, intonation is a bit off in places, and the applause is distracting. The pivotal, breathtaking "Dawn of a New Century" in particular is far stronger on the Dreamcatcher recording and is a piece not to be missed!
Ultimate Secret Garden - Is not trying to be anything else.......2005-09-21
Secret Garden is one of those phenomenons that you either seem to love or hate - they definitely do not fit into any strictly defined category - and I'm sure do not plan to change to fit any-ones preconceived notions!
I love Classical music, and Rock, and many other genere's ...
and can just enjoy this music when I'm in the mood to listen to its soothing melodies and occaisional lyrics.
If you're in the mood for something else - go listen to it - but don't bash the beauty of something you aren't able to comprehend. There are way too many music 'Nazi's' who seem to believe that everything must fit in some tiny preconceived little box in order for their tiny little minds to enjoy it.
This is music which soars and floats and takes your mind completely away from the days troubles or the endless sea of cars plaguing your daily commute.
All the more power to this dynamic duo for their beautiful efforts.
Simply Beautiful.......2005-09-16
I just recently got into secret garden and I really love their music. And since I can't afford to buy all their albums, I bought this one. After reading the precious reviews, I'll say that different people have different tastes. And I really love Secret Garden's music. But i do agree that you can't classify music as 'faux classical' when its not classical.
I don't like dance music but I'm not a granny. And I am sick of pop these days.

I have an unhealthy obsession with the all american rejects, but it does not stop me from being honest. Dirty Little secret is an overrated song, which is good but, lets face it, cheesy and slightly annoying. Like most of the nearly-good singles around, this track has been played TOO MANY TIMES!
Swing, Swing will never lose its amazingness soo buy the cd ... you will not be dissappointed if you keep this review in mind.
If You Love The All American Rejects You Will Love This CD :o).......2006-05-17
Love the CD - Bite Back gets *5 stars* and the music video is Awesome to have...
The acoustic version of Swing, Swing sounds a bit whiney and if Tyson were on American Idol I'm alomost cetain Simon would give him a verbal lashing (lol)...

WOAH!.......2006-03-17
Bite Back is a song sooo great that I still can't understand why it wasn't included in the Move Along album!
The track is worth the price of the cd, but the Dirty Little Secret video is definitely a plus!
This single is a must buy!

Why do you post this exact same message under all of the All American Rejects products? I don't think that you are actually reviewing the product as much as criticizing the fact that it is listed under "Punk Rock". Please, leave the reviewing to people who have actually listened to the music. (And I know, the All American Rejects are nothing like the Sex Pistols.)
This is a really great CD. The All American Rejects just keep getting better!!

This is one of the best albums I've ever bought. I orignally bought the album in 1988, and it didn't left my cars casetteplayer for months. It was also one of the fist albums I had to have on cd. And now its on my MP3, and still one of my top 10.
Just listen to "Loving you's a dirty job", "Holding out for a hero", "Ravishing" and Freda Pynes "Band of gold", and you'll be hooked, for sure.
Please Bonnie, team up with Jim Steinman again, and do the magic ones again.

Customer Reviews:
Too Bad You Can't Just Buy Disc One........2003-07-23
Here's my take on it after a few listens:
Disc 1: 3.5/5
None of the songs are super great (except for Prologue to History maybe), but all in all, they make a very solid album together.
Great Tracks: 1, 4-6, 10, 16-19
Could Have Left Off: 12, 13, 20
Disc 2: 1.5/5
There are only 4-5 good songs on the covers CD. Most of the songs just aren't very good. But I'm sure the Manics play them better than the original bands did.
Good Tracks: 1, 2, 7, 13
Could Have Left Off: All the others. 6 isn't bad.
Total: 5/10
If you're like me, you'll find yourself listening to Disc 1 much more often than Disc 2. But for a B-Sides album, its really quite good.
well...here it is........2003-07-19
We've been clamoring for a b-sides collection lo these many years, and...here we have it. And at thirty-five tracks, a pretty impressive one at that. I was set to give it a lower rating, because it is missing a truly breathtaking assortment of good tracks in favor of, in my opinion lesser material. Honestly, how could they POSSIBLY leave off the likes of 'Black Garden,' 'Too Cold Here,' 'Dead Passive,' 'Black Holes For The Young,' 'Buildings for Dead People,' and of course that all-time classic ode to teenage self-absorption, 'No One Knows What It's Like To Be Me.' Fair enough if ALL the tracks here were also great, but, no--there's also okay but not world-class material like 'Sorrow 16,' 'Democracy Coma,' 'We Her Majesty's Prisoners,' and an entire disc of covers, which, though perhaps conceptually pleasing, is unnecessary--at most a half dozen of these are worth having: 'We Are All Bourgeois Now' (even if it IS a hidden track on Know Your Enemy), Rock and Roll Music (a truly scorching cover), 'Take the Skinheads Bowling,' 'Been a Son,' 'Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel'...and that's all really. Also Alice Cooper's 'Under My Wheels,' which is inexplicably absent. Do we REALLY need the Manics' stylings on 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,' 'Last Chrismas,' and 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You?' No, we do not. Gah.
However, I would like to make an effort to emphasize the positive here: they DID, somewhat to my surprise, include 'Horses Under Starlight,' a totally uncharacteristic but quite lovely wordless little number. Huzzah! Also, 'Mr. Carbohydrate' remains hilarious, 'Dead Trees and Traffic Islands' is one of their best, and, out of all the Know Your Enemy b-sides, they had the presence of mind to choose 'Just a Kid,' by far the best (along with 'Didn't My Lord...,' also present). The new tracks (I'd never heard them before, at any rate) '4 Ever Delayed' and 'Judge Yr'self' aren't bad either.
I can't lie; my ideal track listing for this collection would have been radically different than this. But there's enough quality music here that I can't complain TOO much. It's certainly enough to remind you why the Manics are good...mind you, as unlikely as the prospect seems, I'd still LOVE a companion volume featuring all the great stuff they left out; still, I suppose it's a testament to the band's consistency that they could throw out so much and still have such a consistent product. Hokay.

Álbumes como "Heavy horses", "Stand up", "Songs from the wood", "Minstrel in the gallery", "Stormwatch", "Too old to rock `n' roll: too young to die",... contenían temas acústicos que en muchos casos constituían puntos álgidos en la globalidad de dichos discos.
What's up?.......2001-01-15
What I heard, I only know! It's a kind of music that I want to listen and to make all my life in the future. It's so mountainerous and natural, so professional and well-sounded, a quality-done one! I think it's expressive and massive in attacking peoples' feelings and mind. It minds so well! I can listen it all the day and do my life on it. Every song or instrumental is a piece of a puzzle - the I.A.'s puzzle. The sound is tremendous - it just rings! Words and music are combined in a new but old strange one cd! While not standing before the cd, it works in my mind as a brainstorm. And all this is made by a person, who I really think is a regular guy, in between the extremes!
