Product Description
The trio is co-led project for the three of these Midwestern boys. They knew each other when they were still green: Ethan was still in high school when this trio first played a session! For those of you NY types who don't know Dave yet,let me tell you he is amazing and ferocious player who is already a legend in the Midwest.(He is a founding member of the Minneapolis super group "Happy Apple".)This new CD features original material as well as raucous covers of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Knowing Me,Knowing You".

Motel Shot.......2007-02-23
Remember how you go back and check out music that you thought was so cool, so hip or so hot - you search for years, finally find it and then are disappointed? Motel Shot does NOT fall into this category. This album still surprises me with its excellent harmonies and free falling songs. It goes beyond my expectations and still thrills me. Check out the musicians on this record and go back in time.
Give Delaney his props!.......2006-06-23
I agree with the rest of the reviewers, GREAT album. However, the highlight song for me is Delaney singing "Faded Love". Obsolutely by far the best version I've ever heard of this classic! What an interpretation!
Motel Shot, Great Unplugged Before It Was A Fad.......2005-11-28
What can you say. Delaney and Bonnie did an unplugged before this became a fad. And what came out was one of the best albums from the 1970's. A combination of soul, gospel, folk, and rock-and-roll. Its a combination that works. Doing famous traditional songs like "Will The Circle be Unbroken", to spiritual music "Talkin About Jesus". Others songs, like "Going Down The Road" just add so much to this album. From the great piano playing to just the raw emotion in this album. Bonnie Bramlett voice seemed at her best. This album shows the early 1970's was a creative era in music. I can't say more about this album.
MORE THAN JUST GOODTIME MUSIC.......2004-07-13
LISTEN ONCE JUST FOR FUN. THEN LISTEN AGAIN VERY CAREFULLY.
THESE PEOPLE TAKE SOUTHERN GOSPEL, DELTA BLUES, AND COUNTRY,
THEY DISECT THEM ALL, AND LIKE DR. FRANKENSTEIN, THEY CONSTRUCT
THEIR OWN MONSTER (GOOD OLE ROCK & ROLL).
WHEN I LISTENED TO MY SHINEY NEW VINYL IN 1971, ALL I KNEW WAS
THIS MUSIC MADE ME FEEL REAL GOOD. LISTENING TO MY SHINEY NEW
DVD TODAY, I CAN HEAR WHAT AN ARTISTIC DOCUMENT THIS IS.
THIS SESSION SPAWNED MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN, AND DEREK & THE
DOMINOES. IF YOU LISTEN CAREFULLY YOU CAN HEAR ERIC C. SINGING
ON COME ON IN MY KITCHEN.
BUT EVEN IF YOU DONT LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY, YOU WILL HAVE A REAL
GOOD TIME. ENJOY! 50+ AND STILL ROCKIN.
Smooth Organic Soul Music.......2004-05-13
This is a beautiful collection of relaxing, mellow, good-timing tunes from one of the finest bands ever to tour America. The level of musicianship is very high, what with Duane Allman, Jim Keltner, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell et al., but the sound is relaxed, mellow, compassionate and wonderful. This is a gem of an overlooked album, mixing gospel, soul, country, rock, and hymnals, that should not be missed!

Its About Time.......2007-06-08
Almost everyone that I know thinks of Fool For The City whenever Foghat is mentioned. Those fortunate enough to have heard Boogie Motel already know that this is Foghat's best work. I wore out the LP when it first came out. All song are great with the title cut being the best. Its a little on the short side but the CD is still a winner.
Great CD,but too short........2007-01-10
Since I'm only just now getting this release on CD,I was disappointed in one thing.....the disc is too short! The songs are probably the best that Foghat has ever recorded, before OR since, but I was expecting the disc to at least crack 45 minutes. But,it's still a great title, and a definite must-have for all Foghat fans.

Modern-day bluesman G. Love, known to more skeptical ears as 23-year-old blue-eyed devil Garrett Dutton, shone briefly as hip-hop's great white hope when he released a debut record that paired blues-based playing with vocals that approximated rap. Though he was initially grouped with acts like Beck and Soul Coughing--pale faces who flirted with hip-hop but stuck to rock esthetics--we know now that young Master Dutton has far less in common with those inventive postmodernists than he does with, say, Jamie Walters, the pretty-boy pop dullard of Beverly Hills 90210 fame.
Coast to Coast Motel, the singer/guitarist's second shot with his bass and drums ensemble Special Sauce, does not even grant us the minor pleasures of his debut's "blues rap" novelty. This time, Mr. G focuses primarily on the R&B sounds of New Orleans, where the band recorded the album. That G. Love counts John Hammond Jr. an inspiration is telling: What Coast to Coast Motel offers is bratty suburban recreations of Hammond's competent but uninspired blueblood appropriations of classic blues music. New Special Sauce tunes like "Kiss & Tell" and "Bye Bye Baby" are absolutely fine but inauthentic and unnecessary given the breadth of great blues already available to motivated listeners. And any college-educated kid, like Garrett, who insists on singing with the slurred drawl of elderly sharecroppers needs to be slapped silly. --Roni Sarig
Customer Reviews:
Madness!.......2006-08-02
Who the hell is Roni Sarig and what is his problem? G-love and Special Sauce are one of the few musical acts out there who don't pump out the same MTV garbage on a regualr basis.
A strong showing.......2006-02-24
Man, what's gotten into Roni Sarig's (the caustic reviewer) drawers? He puts down G. Love and John Hammond, Jr. in the same review?
Doesn't the sharecropper remark seem a bit...I dunno...'holier-than-thou' at best and racist at worst?
Don't know what happened to Roni, but G.Love is still recording great music. Ditto John Hammond.
More Folk Oriented, But Still Very Good.......2003-07-30
The droll humor and wistful breeziness flaunted on G's first release is transformed into a more subdued, folk-oriented follow up album. After first listen, I didn't think much of this release, but it grew on me in time. The singles Sweet Sugar Mama and Kiss and Tell are equally enticing, but other tracks like the optimistic Leaving the City, the dreary Sometimes, and the brilliant, big band foray of Bye Bye Baby are the best songs, making up the foundation of the record. Although it's quite disparate from the band's other releases, Coast to Coast Motel is nearly paramount in quality to G's other releases, and it will definately start to rub off on you after a few listens.
From Joe Pops with Love, G. Love.......2003-01-03
Wow, this is a great album, I can't believe it got a negative review. "Small Fish" is da bomb.
Just excellent music.......2002-07-24
I can't believe this album got a negative review. Neither can I believe G. Love is getting negative press in other reviews...
This is what this album has to offer: it's got its own unique, creative sound - as every G. Love album - and it will grow on you like pleasure. I've had this album for several years, and I still get so down into it every time I hear it.
If you like artists from all walks of music because they create their own vein of music without fitting in an easy box ( e.g. B. Harper, Morcheeba, Sublime, M. Ndegeacelo, J. Buckley, GURU, Albert King, the Beatles and M. Davis), this will undoubtedly satisfy you. It took a few listening to grow on me, as I had other G. Love albums which sound a bit rawer.
Discovering G. Love is one of those rare times when you think: damn, I found an incredible artist with a new sound. A sound that's not just new, but simply feels so good you can't quite believe it. Perhaps playing everyday since childhood and growing up in a musical environment helped, but this is someone with immense raw talent.
The sound bites help, but are not sufficent to get a real feel for this sound. Hey G. Love, may you keep putting out this quality and variety for many years!

It's easy to hear why Lucinda Williams (who contributes harmonies here to the haunting "Hellfire Raiser") is such a fan of Australian transplant Annie McCue. Both draw inspiration from country, blues, folk, and classic rock in material that can have a hard edge and a tender heart, with lyrics that show a writerly eye for detail. Yet McCue isn't simply a Lucinda knockoff, but a triple-threat artist--as a singer, songwriter, and electrifying guitarist--who shows considerable command, range, and promise. With vocal support on various tracks from X's John Doe, Heart's Nancy Wilson (who also contributes mandolin), and Jim Lauderdale, highlights include the cinematic opener "Driving Down Alvarado" (with its echoes of the Doors' "Riders on the Storm"), the stripped-down acoustic intimacy of "Sweet Burden of Youth" and "Coming to You," the propulsive urgency of the apocalyptic "Any Minute Now," and a down-and-dirty cover of Tony Joe White's "As the Crow Flies." By the time the twangy atmospherics of the instrumental title track close the album, McCue has covered a considerable expanse of musical territory and made it all her own. --Don McLeese
Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2007-04-28
She is an excellent guitar player and an accomplished songwriter. Get your copy right now.
Damn Good.......2006-11-23
Koala Motel is a powerful album that blends masterful musicianship, gorgeous vocals, enchanting harmonies, and thought provoking lyrics. There are no fillers on this album and every repeat listening experience makes me appreciate the craftsmanship and specialness of each song more and more. Anne McCue's style is accessible to most everyone while at the same time none of the songs on Koala Motal can be considered formulaic. This is a damn good album that deserves heavy rotation treatment.
Anne skillfully pulls many different styles together on this album and she demonstrates them all masterfully. She flat out rocks and kicks a** on tunes like "Driving Down Alvarado," "As the Crow Flies," and "Any Minute Now." "Coming to You" is an intensely passionate ballad that can even the most jaded of listeners will be moved by. "Bright Light of Day" and "Sweet Burden of Youth" have delicious harmonies, with Nancy Wilson (of Heart fame) contributing background vocals on the latter, creating an ethereal experience.
Anne McCue is one of the most gifted and talented songwriter/musicians currently making music today. Her last album, "Roll," was a revelation that set an extremely high bar...and Koala Motel clears it. As good as she comes across on vinyl, she is that much better in concert, and I can't wait to hear these songs live.
This album is a must buy.
Anne's Best Yet.......2006-09-20
This is Anne McCue's best work yet, and that's saying a lot since her previous albums are all outstanding in their own right. Koala Motel features lyrics that alternate between thought-provoking and just plain beautiful. The music is well crafted, and played with supurb musicianship. Anne's guitar playing just gets better and better, and she's always been one of the best. If you're already a fan of Anne's you'll love this and need it for your collection. If you're not familiar with her yet, Koala Motel is a good place to start.

The Indian film-soundtrack cassettes that can be had for a couple of bucks at any Indian spice shop have long been one of the best buys in prerecorded music. Despite the fact that hundreds of fresh titles are cranked out assembly-line style each year, they maintain a remarkable consistency of quality. This CD's ostensible mission is to introduce the uninitiated hipster to the sitar-, string-, and synthesizer-laden grooves that characterize the incidental music for most "Bollywood" productions. But album producer Dan "the Automator" Nakamura has heavily tampered with the original tracks, giving the songs inanely ironic new titles and even dubbing in additional drum and sitar in an effort to put his stamp on the music. Easily angered purists should steer clear; for others, it offers entertaining enough background listening. --Charley Gothic

Funky 70s Bollywood samplers.......2006-07-23
Mesmerising collection of sampler tracks from the composer duo Kalyanji-Anandji. Interspersed with corny dialogues from the movies, which inject humor. Amitabh Bachchan does the honors in Tracks 5 and 9.
The additional beats add to the tempo of the tracks. Good to see such material unearthed from inane, forgotten movies from India. Should be a breath of fresh air to the western audiences looking for something different.
Dont take it too seriously and you will like it.......2005-09-01
Being Indian, I was curious about how a non-indian would interpret our current music. To a serious listener, the music may sound weird and maybe even bad. But if you stay back a little, then the funky twists can be catchy.
Maybe this is part of the Fusion that some people are talking about. If our Bollywood films and music spread over the world, then other people will make their own interpretations and enrich us all.
Still A Favorite 6+ Years After I Bought It.......2005-08-24
I first heard cuts from the CD on the University of St. Cloud (Minnesota) radio station (corporate radio isn't going to touch it!) and was intrigued, so I got the CD in 1999 and have loved it ever since.
A prevous reviewer didn't like the modern remixing of or overlays on many of the songs, but this doesn't bother me (it doesn't seem heavy-handed) and it might make the CD a little more accessible to people who aren't familiar with the genre.
The tracks are alternately "groovy", mellow, James Bond-ish, chase-scene-ish, sinister, romantic...basically a late 60's/early 70s adventure movie extravaganza with an Indian twist and a bit of 90s DJ mixing. Somehow all of it flows together, though I suspect the songs come from different movies.
This brings me to just a couple of minor gripes: although there is a great little booklet in the package that explains the sometimes odd and dangerous world of Bollywood, there are no notes about the movies these tracks came from, which leaves me curious, especially since there are some odd sound bites of actors speaking dialogue in Hindi and English--I'd like to know the context! Actually, I'd rather have the movie notes and no dialogue, because it just disrupts the flow a little for me.
This is one of the most unusual CDs I have, and it's great to work to. People who see it on my CD rack or hear me playng it are inevitably curious about it. I love it! If you're curious about the genre or like sountracks or mod/funk sounds in general, this is a nice compilation.
mellow indian wonderland.......2004-03-18
this album is especially good for it has a variety of sounds yet all similiar to the theme of the album. DJ Shadow and Dan the Automator are the best at what they do and show it on this disc.
the flow is nice and the sounds, although varied, are mellow and an easy listen that is pleasing to the ears. I have yet to see the movie, if one exists. All in all this is one of the best instrumentals if come by, next to the fight club ost.
Not what I expected.........2003-12-04
I thought I was going to hear reel tracks from low budget Bollywood flicks. Instead I get tainted reinterpretations of these songs. I guess I was expecting something like a compilation like the DEEP NOTE series, not a DJ remix.

Product Description
"Ranger Motel", the new release from the Red Dirt Rangers delivers the close-to-the-earth blend of acoustic and electric music that typifies Red Dirt. It should be noted that this was the final disc recorded at Tulsa's legendary Church Studio by Steve Ripley, leader of the multi-platinum selling group The Tractors. If "Ranger Motel" sounds at times like the Great Lost Sir Douglas Quintet album that's because it features keyboardist Augie Meyers, a key architect of Sir Doug's sound. "Ranger Motel" isn't just the best disc the Red Dirt Rangers have ever made, it's a living an vibrant snapshot of what Red Dirt music is all about - its past, its present, and its future.

Former Albert Collins guitarist Debbie Davies ventures into the heart of Texas for this album, recorded with Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon of Double Trouble. As one might expect, the result has a distinctly Texas sound, though that's been an aspect of Davies's playing anyway. The original material is solid, and the covers--including three Willie Dixon songs--are well chosen. Davies's take on "I Just Want to Make Love to You" has been informed by more-recent rock versions of the song but still has the sense of intimacy the song demands, and the closing "Walking by Myself" is appropriately laid-back and low-key. Of the original songs, the strongest is the gender-politics-themed "I'm a Woman," successful because the politics of the lyrics are balanced by an overt sensuality in the music. This one's almost all blues, but Davies keeps things hopping with a variety of feels, tempos, and rhythms, and mixes things up with the south-of-the-border "Atras de Tus Ojos." It's a stronger effort than her recent Round Every Corner, showing the emergence of a distinctive personal style. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Effort.......2002-07-11
I bought this CD adter hearing a couple of songs on the radio. I'm glad I did. Debbie is an up-and-coming star with the potential to replace Stevie Ray Vaughan. Her skills are great and her voice has the strenth and energy as good as Billie Holiday or Rosemary Clooney. But it's her instrumentals that are the best. "Behind Your Eyes" is a haunting example of her skills.
"I'm a Woman" is a strong statement of herself with a hint of sensuality lying underneath the lyrics.
I like this CD and Debbie. I think that, as she matures, she will grow and become even better.
Lucky Find!.......2002-06-07
I just discovered that I'm addicted to the blues, and in my search for new stuff to listen to I bought "Tales from the Austin Motel" because Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon were on it. These two were the rhythm section of Double Trouble, the band that backed Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now I'm no expert on the blues but for my money these two could back a pair of soup cans and it would sound good. What I hadn't expected was that Debbie would blow me away! After all I bought this CD to hear the rhythm section and I wasn't overly concerned with how this Debbie girl sounded, but with the first cut, "Just Stepped In The Blues", I was hooked. With "Bald Headed Baby" I knew I'd found another CD that would not be coming out of the changer. By the time I got to the last cut I was looking in Amazon for more Debbie Davies CDs. Talk about a lucky find!
Mechanical Sweet Studio Guitar Work.......2000-07-25
Boy am I disappointed! Proof positive of the error of letting the artist co-produce her own record. I can just hear the guys in the studio saying "Now Debs, lets do the guitar track just one more time (yeah like about take 753) It comes off as too studio perfect, and frankly sickly. You never get the impression that somethings about to happen, that she's gonna cut loose and surprise us with a little energy.
This lady has a great voice! and the songs mostly click but I needed to hear a hell of a lot more real emotion. Patti Rousou? and Ellen Foley who backed Meatloaf, had that kind of raw voice power and pent up emotion that blasted through. Don't waste your time with this unless you like sweet background muzik masquerading as blues!
I can however, recommend the other album that I bought at the same time "Picture This" see the review.
texas blues.......2000-07-17
GREAT TEXAS BLUES FROM THE OPENING RIFF TO THE LAST ACOUSTIC RIFF DEBBIE DAVIES AND DOUBLE TROUBLE RIP IT UP. GREAT COVERS OF AS THE YEARS GO PASSING BY AND I JUST WANNA MAKE LOVE TO YOU DEBBIES VOCALS AND GUITAR PLAYING ARE AT TOP OF THE GAME.
Tales from the Austin Motel.......2000-06-26
It shouldn't surprise anyone that another great female blues artist should come out of Austin. It has produced Marcia Ball, Angela Strehli and Low Ann Barton. If you're ever in town, you've got to check out Antone's, the best live blues in the Lone Star State. This has been the incubator for some of the best blues artists in Texas. Debby Davies can step into this category with this great album.

There's a profound difference between irony and understatement, a simple truth that fuels Andy Stochansky's big-label bow from its quavering opening guitar notes. While the multi-instrumentalist and Toronto native has managed two previous releases (the well-received indies Radio Fusebox and While You Slept), he's spent most of the '90s as a sideman, including a long stint as Ani DiFranco's drummer. But it's his latter-day, novice's intrigue with the acoustic guitar that fuels much of this subtly evocative standout. With a voice that teasingly wavers between a weary Ray Davies and angelic Jeff Buckley dreaminess, Stochansky's deceptively austere constructions build on elegantly simple melodies and loping rhythms, the introspection and impressionism of their lyrics building a sense of hypnotic intrigue. The dominant subject here may be love, but hardly in the traditional romantic sense; the singer often filters the emotion through prisms of indifference ("Here Nor There"), humanistic spiritual yearning ("One Day"), fatalism ("Wedding Day"), and even as a father struggling to come to terms with his gay daughter ("Miss USA"). Some, like "Wonderful (It's Superman)" and "Mavis Said...," gather enough steam to become anthems, but Stochansky never lets them stray from his compelling, less-is-more ambient-pop sensibility. --Jerry McCulley

Andy's stock will rise........2003-10-30
Andy Stochansky rocked the house in his performance at St. Ambrose University. Upon taking the stage the crowd was a little reserved and not sure what to expect. Yet, as soon as Andy strummed his first cord and began to sing everyone was taken back. The song which stood out the most to me was "22 Steps" a nice melody with lyrics that would impress even the most weathered listener. Andy put on a great set, and was met with loud clapping and cheering from the crowd. Once his set was over I talked to Andy about "Five Star Motel" and he was a really nice guy. So for all you music lovers check out Andy his voice reminds me of Bono with a lisp.

Strong Pop Rock.......2003-05-23
As an Ani fan I was not sure what to expect when I picked this CD up. At first I was surprised (disappointed?) at what a commercial sound it seemed to have - THEN I listened a little more. This is a very good CD. The songs are lyrically very strong, 22 Steps is my favorite. Many reviewers have commented on his voice, some friends have asked Is that Bono? New U2? No this is not a U2 album! Frankly, Andy Stochansky has his own intelligent voice and a wonderfully accessible sound. A very enjoyable album.
I'm hooked.......2003-04-29
I just saw Andy perform live this past weekend, and was blown out of the water! I had heard Ani mention Mr. Stochansky on "Living in Clip" and was interested to see what he was putting out now. After the show I got to talk to Andy and he signed my CD, and now I really couldn't take it out of my CD player if I wanted to. I highly recommend this album, especially "Here nor There," "22 Steps," and "Everest." The music is refreshing, positive, calming, and contemplative all at the same time. And I always have more respect for people who write and play their own stuff, and Mr. Stochansky is a genius in this department. I am also impressed with his ability to step out of his own point of view, and write lyrics from another perspective besides his own. His lyrics are very inspiring.
Go buy this CD!!
Lives Up To It's 5-Star Name.......2003-04-25
The former Ani DiFranco drummer, Andy Stochansky, has created something that REAL music lovers can appreciate. With melodic vocals that will remind you of Radiohead, U2, and Jeff Buckley (at times) coupled with melifluous arrangements, "5 Star Motel" is a MUST for anyone looking for something to keep in their CD player for a LOOOOONG time.
a major "elliott".......2002-12-27
This record is definately for fans of Elliott, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead (pre - "OK Computer"), and U2. Stochansky has an amazing voice, and while the guitar playing may not be the most technically proficient, it suits this style very well. Highly recommended.

Seamless jam band, alt.country, Southern country blend.......2004-10-14
It's been two years since Moses Guest released its critically acclaimed, self-titled double album. Now the Houston band is rewarding fans for their patience with a new studio album, Guest Motel, and a live concert DVD, Edit.
Moses Guest seamlessly blends elements of the jam band, Southern rock, and alt-country scenes. While the philosophy-heavy lyrics can sometimes wear thin, the smooth rhythm section and mellow vocals help the listener to gloss over such thin lines as You smell the fear / Of the retarded pupeteer / In his preposterous box / He's sticking by the clocks.
The blues-tinged, radio-friendly "Jackson" serves as an ideal showcase for Graham Guest's soulful lead vocals. If it's the instrumental jam you're after, you'll want to check out "Bird In My Hand." Or, if you like puzzling the meaning out of lyrics, try the mystifying "Double-Double-Double God" (Double-double-double god is here / He's eight times removed from the one / The future is really quite clear / Double-double-double god has come).
With soaring pedal steel guitar, a driving keyboard line, steady walking bass, and an infectious chorus, "Baby, Don't Take Your Love Out On Me" is the standout track and a great way to close the album. I look forward to seeing the band play a live show someday soon, because I imagine they turn this 3½-minute gem into a spirited 10-minute jam.
Whatever your favorite musical style, you're likely to find Guest Motel a worthwhile addition. And if you're a fan of extended jams, be sure to check out Edit as well. Filmed before a hometown Houston audience, Moses Guest's DVD debut features live performances of "Invictus" from Guest Motel as well as tracks from the band's previous albums.
Awesome Listen.......2004-09-15
My husband first heard cuts off of this CD driving thru Jackson Mississippi to Hattiesburg--it was playing on XM Radio in the rental car. Seemed like we needed to order this CD just because of the song JACKSON. Now it seems like we need to listen to it nightly. Texas blues, jazz, and rock all influences this recording. It has excellent lyrics and has been produced well. We can see Graham Guest becoming HUGE and satelite radio where we all need to be listening to GOOD/NEW music. This is a MUST buy for anyone who likes excellent lyrics and riffs.
