If there's one constant on smooth-jazz radio throughout America, it's that guitars and saxophones rule. This 12-song compilation reflects that standard with tracks from well-known horn players such as Richard Elliot and Jay Beckenstein from Spyro Gyra, as well as newcomers like Euge Groove and Paul Weimar, who is professionally known as Shilts. The guitarists include Chuck Loeb, Peter White, and Joyce Cooling, but the horn players dominate. The best tracks are right up front where they should be. The only unreleased track, a hot cover of Michael Jackson's hit, "Rock with You," by the sax/bass guitar duo of Everette Harp and Brian Bromberg, leads off the disc. Dave Koz, the big winner at the second awards show, follows with a soaring take on the Urban Knights' "Dancing Angels," and the fourth track has maybe the best sax performance, with Gerald Albright playing on Jeff Lorber's "Snakebite." Most of the tracks aren't from new albums of the respective artists, but from earlier ones instead. That doesn't hinder this album from playing like your favorite smooth-jazz station. --Mark Ruffin

5 out of 5 stars Great CD! Great show! Great music!.......2002-03-06

Just picked this record up after going to the Smooth Jazz Awards show here in San Diego. I bought Vol.1 -- "Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards Collection" -- a while ago, as well, and absolutely loved it. These two records are a great addition to my collection, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to get a start in Smooth Jazz.
