Recorded after Gil Evans provided the orchestral clouds through which Miles Davis blew on such classics as Sketches of Spain, Porgy and Bess, and Miles Ahead, Out of the Cool is a starburst. Evans's title makes clear that this is a path away from the legendary 1949 Birth of the Cool, opening as it does with an obsessive (if calmly so) vamp that pulses for two minutes with maracas rattling before all the orchestra's instruments enter. Built on a repeating four-bar figure, "La Nevada" goes on to peg Evans as a fully realized orchestra player, one who uses the color palette of over a dozen distinct voices as his instrument. As a pianist Evans manages startling spareness, making dramatic miniature figures and then comping through the orchestra's skein with ritual regularity. Looking at the provenance of these tunes, one realizes Evans's true scope of knowledge: he moves from Kurt Weill's "Bilbao Song" to the Lydian (as in George Russell) modal structure of "Stratusphunk" to close the session with a regally charted take on Horace Silver's "Sister Sadie." Note how trumpeter Johnny Coles steps up as a main soloist, and follow the harmonic topography. It's a rare treat. --Andrew Bartlett

Boasting the first jazz instrumental to sell a million copies, the Paul Desmond-penned "Take Five," Time Out captures the celebrated jazz quartet at the height of both its popularity and its powers. Recorded in 1959, the album combines superb performances by pianist Brubeck, alto saxophonist Desmond, drummer Joe Morrello and bassist Gene Wright. Along with "Take Five," the album features another one of the group's signature compositions, "Blue Rondo a la Turk." Though influenced by the West Coast-cool school, Brubeck's greatest interest and contribution to jazz was the use of irregular meters in composition, which he did with great flair. Much of the band's appeal is due to Desmond, whose airy tone and fluid attack often carried the band's already strong performances to another level. Together, he and Brubeck proved one of the most potent pairings of the era. --Fred Goodman

5 out of 5 stars Time Out for a Timeless Classic.......2007-07-04

This is a reissue of the 1959 studio session. Although Blue Rondo and Take Five are the signature pieces for the Quartet, the other tracks are in keeping with the innovative time signatures 5/4, 6/4 and variations of 4/4 and 3/4 time. What else can you say except it's a classic and belongs in evryone's collection.

5 out of 5 stars A classic ! .......2007-07-01

This Cd is just GREAT and such a Jazz classic! The re-mastered version of this Album is absolutely wonderful---sounding so crisp and sharp!

The songs speak for themselves, as they are some of Brubeck's most famous hits.

This is a highly recommended re-mastered version of Dave's TIME OUT Album!

5 out of 5 stars This CD Changed The Rules.......2007-06-16

This album changed the rules in jazz in two important ways. First, it introduced atypical time signatures to jazz performers. Performers were pushing ever other musical limit, including harmony (Miles Davis, Bill Evans, . . .), melody (John Coletrane, Eric Dolphy, . . .) and song structure in general (Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, . . .). 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures were already optional in contemporary classical music and some ethic music. Brubeck opened up this fertile opportunity for the jazz world (and later rock like Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and Rush). Perhaps more remarkable was the fact that this album proved that the public was receptive to this new approach to popular music. Brubeck went pioneering and returned with no lethal arrows in him.

The best part about this album is that this new technique was not just a novelty; it was a path to creating timeless compositions like Take Five and Blue Turk a la Rondo. My favorite things about Brubeck are his range of expression (from cool and understated to highly muscular), and the unique voice of Paul Desmond's saxophone. Desmond's instrument has the bird-like sweetness of Charlie Parker combined with the lazer-focused tone of John Coletrane. The alternating solo voices really injects life and breath into the group.

The use of different time signatures did not did not get embraced as widely as one might expect in a genre built on creativity. Some felt that odd time signatures did not "swing" (although Brubeck and others disproved that), some may not have felt comfortable with or inspired by this new approach, and I suspect that the distinctiveness of this contribution by a white man made it "uncool" among many jazz musicians to do something that sounded "like Brubeck". The happy side effect for Brubeck is that this album stands out in jazz like few other works.

Sony/Columbia did this superb sounding disc very well in this SACD transfer! This rivals the original edition Lp for lovely sound, and I think it is among the best single layer SACD's out there (Mingus ah um is THE best to these ears!). You know (or should know) the music, so don't hesitate getting it on SACD! I should add I am not into 5.1 for music. My sound review refers only to 2 channel stereo sound.

Time Further Out extends upon the concepts first enunciated on the Brubeck Quartet's surprise hit Time Out, but in this case with the organizing principles involving the leader's varied compositional treatments of the blues--traditional and otherwise. Thus a darkly ruminative tune such as "Bluette" treats a fairly standard 12-bar form in a very non-standard manner, interpolating a variety of classical devices that suggest the melodic influence of Chopin and the contrapuntal devices of Bach in its treatment, with a yearning alto solo from saxophonist Paul Desmond that suggests the emotional content of a blues, without specifically referring to standard devices. As if to italicize his band's mastery of polymeter, pianist Brubeck treats the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth tunes in corresponding meters, to particular effect on the 7/4 hoedown of "Unsquare Dance," the 8/8 barrelhouse changes of "Bru's Boogie Woogie" and the engaging dissonances of his 9/8 mood piece "Blue Shadows in the Street." And on "Far More Drums," drummer Joe Morello displays a mastery of 5/4 metric variations and African-styled polyrhythms that was unheard of for that time, save for percussive grandmasters such as Max Roach. --Chip Stern

5 out of 5 stars Essential jazz for you collection.......2007-04-01

I found this record in my Dad's collection when I was 14 and just getting into jazz drumming. When I found it on disc I ordered it immediately! (When the disc is playing, I can mentally put in the pops and clicks from the old record!) The guys in Dave's quartet are all unbelievable musicians. This disc is quite rhythmic and has lots of layers to each song and that's why I love it. You'll find something new each time you listen to it. You can tell Dave, Paul, Joe and Eugene are having a blast putting this album together. If you like Dave Brubeck and most do, you'll want to add this to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars DAVE DID IT AGAIN.......2007-03-15

Time Further Out is a great sequel to Time Out. Like its predecessor, the instrumentations are flawless, and the music does reflect the artistry of a true jazz master.

Though Time Out is rightfully regarded as the pinnacle release in Brubeck's career, Time Further Out does not disappoint. The melodies and rhythms reflected the joy of a performer who loved and continues to love doing what he does best, namely entertaining listeners in the style that only Mr. Brubeck could only hope to ever achieve.

One interesting observation: just as Miles Davis once said that Herb Alpert's trumpet-playing style was so distinctive that you knew it was Alpert who was performing after putting forth so much or so little as three notes, the same could be said of Brubeck's piano style.

No unequivocal comparisons can be made in distinguishing the quality of work between Time Out and Time Further Out. This is taking a stab, but I would say that Brubeck's piano style is more at the forefront in the latter.

Anyway, get both of these classics if you haven't already done so, and enjoy the listening experiences.

5 out of 5 stars Incomparable.......2007-02-10

This is absolutely as good as the Brubeck Quartet -- and modern "intellectual" jazz -- gets; not to slight the Carnegie Hall Concert in any way, but this is one case where the form, clarity, and concision required in the studio trumps the live format every time.

Much looser and less self-conscious than "Time Out", "Time Further Out" finds the guys light years more comfortable with the odd time signatures they must certainly have realized (and accepted!) would become their main claim to fame, as well as with each other (Desmond was originally quite put out that Morello had demanded to be a "featured" drummer instead of a faceless time-keeper) -- and the results are obvious. This is only peripherally "intellectual" jazz; the Quartet is now expressing itself emotionally and spiritually through those odd time signatures ... it ain't just a gimmick no more, Sports Fans!

It flows, it rocks, it scales lofty peaks -- yeah, ol' ham-handed Dave is still pounding out those block chords; Paul is still smoother than silk or any other sax-man that ever lived; Gene is still running the voodoo down and Joe is still ... Joe: but the individuals have melded their sounds and their personalities, here, and the music is otherworldly, heaven-sent, and relentlessly listenable even to non-aficianados. Put it on for your girlfriend, sometime, don't make a big speech or anything, just let ot percolate through the room, and see where THAT gets you ... !

A word about Joe Morello. I'm a drummer myself, and many favorites have come and gone since I first heard him play "Take Five" on my daddy's hi-fi -- but he's the one drummer in the world I have never gotten over and never will. Buddy Rich blazes, Krupa stokes those fires down below, Max Roach'll make you think intricate interlocking thoughts; hell, even Ron Bushy (the "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" guy) and John Bonham and Terry Bozzio deserve the attention they recieved. The current crop of jazz meisters have chops and technique far beyond the abilities of mortal men --

But nobody -- NOBODY -- tells a story like Joe Morello. Nobody makes 'em talk like that, makes 'em sing like that, or puts you somewhere out in the jungle listening to four or five hand-drummers having an honest-to-god conversation. You know how Eric Clapton never tries to fast-talk you on guitar? That's how Morello is on drums.

Back in '61, drum construction had not yet gone all-maple-plies-and-razor-sharp-bearing-edges; the base was still the African mahogany of Krupa's day, mixed with a little poplar, and the sheer sound, the deep, mellow tone, of those drums is one reason folks will still be listening to solos from pre-1970 long after those who played them have left the planet. Morello doesn't have to hit you over the head with speed or technique -- just let the drums speak for themselves.

Seductive, mon, seductive ...

5 out of 5 stars BACK TO MY ROOTS.......2007-01-10

I was surfing and starting looking at good old jazz that I had grown up with. Dave Brubeck started me on my appreciation of jazz. It was like meeting an old friend. I love the album and it continues Dave's unique signature in jazz composition.

5 out of 5 stars Brubeck truly shows his skill in this excellent album........1998-11-12

This is one of his best. "Time Further Out" just shows how good he is and how his music can be soothing and swinging at the same time. David Brubreck does it all on this album. He has his piano skills mixed with the wonders of Paul Desmond, Joe Morello, and Eugene Wright. If you want a CD with swing and rythym, this masterpiece is the one for you!

LL Cool J's egotism is his m.o., his sex appeal, his greatest strength. He'd been on top of the world since he started scoring hits as a teenager, but anyone who's been in the rap game for five years, as he'd been when Mama arrived, has something to prove. So he came out swinging--literally--with the title track, which claims boxing trash talk as proto-rap and turns it into a declaration of ongoing mastery. Beyond that, Mama, with its ultrahard Marley Marl production, pumps up his love-man rep (the sweetly affectionate "Around the Way Girl" and an even hornier remix of "Jingling Baby") and his ego (pretty much everything else). It's mostly just old-school boasting, but damn if it isn't deserved. --Douglas Wolk

4 out of 5 stars Would still KNOCK most mc's albums OUT of the park now!!.......2007-03-07

After the luke-warm reaction to his "Walking With A Panther" album LL went back to his old stomping grounds in an attempt to rejuvenate his talents and come back out stronger. It was here while his grandmother (Big Momma)spawned the words of encouragement to her disillusioned grandson "Just Knock'em Out" and so we got this album. LL promptly hooked up with Marley Marl and together they came up with this, the 1st of 2 albums they did together. Marley's production skills were+still are legendary. His beats are bone crunching and the samples that accompany them are always original. They percussion on this album in the form of piano riffs and guitar licks were simply mindblowing as they were used in perfect ration to the rock hard beats and funky basslines. All of this was before LL even ripped a verse!!!!!! Around this time LL was in afew beefs with Kool Moe Dee and Ice-T so alot of his verses were heavy battle type rhymes were he took no prisoners. The title track alone was, is and always will be 1 of the greatest diss records of ALL TIME!! The opening track "The Boomin' System" was about the systems that heads were fitting into their cars and that whole car culture that was peaking in the early 90's. The legendary line "2 mile an hour so everybody sees you" still gets me amped. "Around The Way Girl" was huge back then and still holds its own as a decent rap ballad by an mc that has mastered the genre. "Eat 'Em Up L Chill", "Mr. Good Bar" and "Murdergram" are all tight head nodders that showcase his impressive, more amped, stronger, rejuvinated style to the tee. "Murdergram" is a live performance that will literally blow your mind, what breath control??!! "Cheesy Rat Blues" is a tale about how the tide can turn and you could be left without a pot to p*ss in and what could happen to the people that are supposedly by your side, in times like this. A very personal track. "Farmers Blvd" was a track were LL shouts out his crew and afew of them for some mic time and put it down nicely. Next you hear the immortal words "c'mon man..." and the horns and then all hell breaks loose with "Mama Said Knock You Out" exploding through the speakers. One of my all time favourite hiphop songs EVER. "Milky Cereal" explores the subject of getting laid. Nice beat and funny rhymes. "Jingling Baby" is a superior version than the 1 on the "Walking With A Panther" album, in my opinion. Marley's production is top notch. "To Da Break Of Dawn" is another diss joint where LL rips apart Ice-T and Kool Moe Dee with relative ease to be honest over a smooth hard beat laced with acid tongued rhymes that Im sure would still sting those cats now. "6 Minutes Of Pleasure" and "The Power Of God" were the only tracks that I thought were weaker back then and even more now. The last track that I havent mentioned is "Illegal Search", a humourous tale about the police and their treatment of his race but with a nice funny twist. Still after 16years this is a soundbomb. A timeless classic. He and hiphop certainly dont make joints like this anymore.

1 out of 5 stars This is NOT the Original Recording Rereleased.......2007-02-15

If you're looking for the original recording this is NOT it.

The parts of "The Boomin' System" wherein the lyrics are supposed to be "...pass the Heineken..." and "Roll up a fat one..." are silenced out. The CD is fine other than that; my search continues. <. <

5 out of 5 stars BLOW FOR BLOW, L.L. NEVER SWUNG THIS TOUGH! .......2007-02-12

For all the hip hop heads that thought Uncle L had fallen by the wayside by 1990 was suckered punch with this banga. Marley Marl helped LL redeem his street credibility which led him back to greatness. This album contains his ultimate statement of purpose in the title track and one of his best skirt chasing tracks with " Around The Way Girl".

His boasting tracks were business as usual but they were as powerful as ever with "Eat em up L chill" and "Murdergram" (one of his most ferocious boasting tracks next to "I'm Bad"). Outside of the of the egotistical boasting and playerism, he does have other things to say with "Illegal Search" and "Power of God" (an ode to the higher power that works pretty good without sounding overwrought).

Few hip hop albums sound as varied and as hungry as Mama. Unlike most hip hop albums, this one has aged gracefully. Eventhough we will never L.L. like this again, this is the album where his legacy lies and where he earned the title of the G.O.A.T.

5 out of 5 stars Cool J at his peak.........................2006-11-01

LL and Marley Marl dropped this classic back in 1990. LL's formula for getting at the ladies with Round the way girl and Mama Said Kock You Out for the fellas, has been copied by Nelly and 50 Cent to a tee.

Top Joints:
Cheesy Rat Blues (Falling off at it's best, great storytelling)
Murdergram
Boomin System
Mama Said Knock You Out (Great workout song)
Round the Way Girl (Loved the video)
Jingling Baby (Remixed But Still Jingling)
To Da Break Of Dawn (Dis record for Kool Moe Dee, Ice T & MC Hammer)
6 Minutes Of Pleasure

5 out of 5 stars A Hip Hop Classic.......2006-08-31

The real question is not who loves Mama Said Knock You Out, but who doesn't. The title track alone cements LL in musical history right next to cats like Fats Dominoe & Louie Armstrong. 50 Years from now when rap is only appreciated by the select few just as jazz is today Mama Said Knock You Out will be the record playing over the intercom in the Hip Hop section of your local cities art museums.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this record, its one of the very few hip hop records out there that anyone from 8-80 can enjoy and appreciate.

5 out of 5 stars Jazz de fino, ecléctico, potente.......2007-01-05

Se trata quizás del mejor disco del gran arreglador Gil Evans. En esta grabación plasma una sonoridad más compacta y menos grandilocuente que por ejemplo en sus colaboraciones con Miles Davis. Un disco de lujo, fino, diverso y potente.

5 out of 5 stars Why not give it SIX stars?.......2006-06-06

Like other fellow "reviewers", this disk came to me in the '60s, when I was (ahem) younger. It was my first real, full-on jazz disk, and was foisted on me (a rank musical slob at that point) by a friend who loved jazz and felt very sorry for my plebian tastes (or lack thereof.) Well, long story shortened, he never got his disk back, and I have memorized it entirely, note by note. And O golly, it's always fresh, alluring, surprising.

This too, it's a wonderful argument for the value of CDs. This one, and "Individualism" were my first purchases... and Oh glory, there's even more subtlety to audit on the CDs!

All I want to add is this: Gil Evans is the ultimate crossover artist. From Jimi Hendrix to the blues, to the sonorities and moods of Maurice Ravel's music, he loved tunes and harmony and he LOVED each instrument in the orchestra. No one like him, not at all. Well, maybe Maria Schneider, who was (I'm told) his assistant at the end... She's got a good ear, but Gil was still the most amazing arranger. And, as others have noted, he sure had the players to do his imagination full justice.

I'll shut up now, and you go buy a copy, OK?

5 out of 5 stars A rare gem.......2005-03-04

Sometimes you listen to a piece of music for the first time and it strikes you that it sounds so original yet so logical, so beautiful and natural yet so rare. This is how this music struck me when I first heard it in LP 20+ years ago. Is a recording for the ages. When the trombones come in out of nowhere in "La nevada" you feel taken by them, yet you feel like there is nothing else that could have come in but these bones. "Where Flamingos Fly" is a masterpiece of arranging and shows the artistry of Jimmy Knepper. The session continues with one beautiful surprise after another. Do yourself a favor and get this recording if is the only one you can get.

5 out of 5 stars Gil's Greatest.......2003-03-22

Following on from his three classic albums with Miles Davis, this is Evans' best ever album. Stand-out tracks are the long, swinging 'La Nevada', and the dark, moody 'Where Flamingos Fly' and 'Hidden Treasure'. The CD also has a bonus track, the jolly 'Sister Sadie'. Great arrangements, great musicianship, particularly Ron Carter on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. A real gem of an album.

5 out of 5 stars simply astounding.......2003-03-21

i am late to come to this amazing recording, however, with that said, it is never too late to appreciate this timeless recording. it is breathtaking. the reason for my passing on this title was the fact that i was affraid it would be big band bland. that is the biggest mistake i have ever made in presuming a jazz title. i was struck immediately and forever a fan of this and the into the hot LP. this particular title is my favorite of the 2. the into the hot is no lees of an achievement and should never be dismissed. get them both. you will thank yourself. thanks gil.

Volume 2 of the complete COLE PORTER songbooks on VERVE is a clinger all the way.Songs like EVERYTHING I LOVE,GIVE HIM THE OOH-LA-LA and MOST GENTLEMEN DON'T LIKE LOVE are not often recorded.ANITA gives us a typical treatment of MY HEART BELONGS TO DADDY which means her way;The ELLA renditions are not from the songbooks of 1956;i personnaly enjoy AFTER YOU,WHO from the magical voice of HELEN MERRILL and SO IN LOVE done in cha-cha by that maneater par excellence DINAH WASHINGTON.This is an excellent tibute to COLE PORTER,well worth buying.

Terrific versions of classic Porter songs recorded by jazz's greatest vocalists... It's hard to go wrong with this CD. This is the second volume of the Cole Porter's songbook and it is appreciably better than the first volume, which was titled "Night & Day"

This is an excellent compilation of Cole Porter's famous and not-so famous but nonetheless excellent songs. A wonderful tribute to a wonderful man.

5 out of 5 stars A Splendid Souvenir to Remember a Spectacular Performance!.......2003-10-30

Having been fortunate to have seen the English National Opera's production in 1988 of "Orpheus" with Wilson and Pountney's outrageously naughty English text, this highlight CD serves as an audio souvenir. Too bad the ENO didn't have the foresight to film the production-would have made a great DVD. The CD booklet does have a few photos of the sets designed by Gerald Scarfe (who also designed Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album artwork) so you get a taste, combined with the CD selections, of what the production was like.

5 out of 5 stars god moves in a peculiar way.........i am god.............2002-01-17

Offenbach is great anyhow, but this recording is riotous. The translation into English is first-rate, really funny stuff, and the singing is pretty good, too. Very worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars Orpheus in the Underworld.......2000-03-17

The rewritten lyrics, in English, are some of the wittiest and wicked in operetta. Wilson and Pountney have recaptured the spirit of naughtiness, not a small accomplishment in our licentious times. Though delighted to have the highlights, I wished a CD set or video of the full production were available.

    4 out of 5 stars Excerpts.......1999-12-23

This is a collection of excerpts. It is in English and is quite good. The performance of the entire operetta has been discontinued and it is a pity.

I would like to know if this is highlights from the opera or the total opera.

    Amazon.com

This bargain-priced four-CD set presents itself as easy, event-based listening, with the CDs individually titled "Wining," "Dining," "Dancing," and "Romancing." A glimpse at the track list and personnel, however, immediately reveals that, much more than "easy listening," it's an extraordinary collection of jazz performances culled from the Verve archives and including material from the label's classic and recent periods, as well as from subsidiary labels.

The selection has been made with remarkable thoughtfulness, pulling out tracks that may surprise even veteran listeners. John Coltrane plays "You're a Weaver of Dreams" with the Miles Davis rhythm section in a 1959 session. There's also Miles's 1958 rendition of "Round Midnight" with arranger Michel LeGrand. And there's a live Paris recording of "Whisper Not" by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers with Lee Morgan. When Al Hibbler sings "This Love of Mine," he's backed by the perfectly Ellingtonian horns of Johnny Hodges and Ben Webster.

"Dancing" picks up the tempo and swings with vigor, but the other volumes are almost textbooks on the art of ballad playing, with many of the greatest saxophonists, trumpeters, and vocalists represented, and a healthy sampling of pianists and guitarists as well. Sure, it functions as mood music, but there's none of the usual artificiality or manipulative effects. It's jazz, often of the highest order and filled with a spirit of timeless romance. --Stuart Broomer

I'm a die-hard Ella Fitzgerald fan, and when I heard her along with Louis Armstrong and such other greats as Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, George Shearing, Chet Baker, Dizzy, and others, I absolutely had to buy it. Have given it as gifts on many occasions, and everyone loves it....even the youngsters ( between 25 and 40)!. Great buy, and great gift for any occasion.

The Stone Coyotes might be a rock band, but that doesn't mean they slip neatly into a stereotype. Barbara Keith's songs are influenced by folk music ("Where the Old Oak Grows," "If You See the One") and gospel ("Bone Tired") as much by Led Zeppelin or any classic-rock sound. She's a powerful singer, too, and as a guitarist she can flurry notes with the best of them, although she generally chooses not to, making her solos short and very incisive. For a three-piece, there's a remarkably full sound, with much kudos to the Tibbles father and son rhythm section, solid as a rock but subtle so you sense them without being overwhelmed. This is a band that's confident of its own identity--their cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" makes it sound like an original, and they're not afraid to embrace some neopunk on the live closer, "Saw You at the Hop." These coyotes howl. --Chris Nickson

5 out of 5 stars Folk lyrics meet power rock 'n roll trio........2006-10-29

"Situation Out of Control", "Lucky Day", "When Parliament Convenes", the haunting (for a sometime sailor) "The Black Atlantic", the kicking "I Want to Rock" the cover of "Season of the Witch", "Saw You at the Hop", what's not to like? How many albums are you going to find where EVERY song is outstanding? Barbara Keith had an eponymous vinyl LP in 1972 that I tracked down and purchased on CD (well worth the effort) learning in that search about her subsequent band, 'The Stone Coyotes'. All (so far) seven Coyotes' albums are terrific, with, in my opinion, "fire it up" and "Situation Out of Control" being the stand-outs. "Barbara Keith" was folk with considered lyrics. Barbara Keith brings every bit of that intelligent poetic sensibility to hard-core rock and roll with 'The Stone Coyotes'. Just the first song alone, "Situation Out of Control", is worth the effort to acquire.

5 out of 5 stars I jest you not folks, this could be your lucky day........2000-12-01

This is one of the songs you hear when being transferred to an order specialist! Let me tell you folks, I called, and was put on hold, and after hearing this song, I was so touched... it was like an angel came and sat on my shoulder. Soon after that experience, I finally got to talk to a LIVE person, and she must have picked up on my overwhelmed state of X-tacy, that she was able to help me with all my problems, and then proceeded to give me a gift certificate for my future purchases! Talk about luck! I credit this song for my good fortune! You know, sometimes I call in and just ask to be put on hold...

A few more wise words for you:

Whatever you do, don't be downhearted, blah - blah - blah, somethings might be coming round the corner, this might be your lucky day,

this might be your lucky day,

    your lucky day,

    lucky day-ay-ay.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2000-11-14

For those of you who are fans of the Stone Coyotes, I would recommend tracking down an album by Tom Faulkner called, Lost in the Land of Texico. I think you'll enjoy it for the same reasons you like the Coyotes.

5 out of 5 stars if you want to understand groove..........2000-08-26

to have any expectation about this album is to have it blown away by the opening power of the title track. moving from storytelling in "where the old oak grows" to the imagery of "my horse has wings" and the crunch of "bone tired" there are only moments to catch your breath when needed. this isn't to say that "situation out of control" moves forward at a breakneck pace, out of control in itself - to say that would be an insult to an album taking inspiration from all sorts of places musical from straight-ahead american rock to country to punk to rap - all strung together throughout the album, and, in this reviewer's opinion coming together in the spectacular "when parliament convenes" - thus sounding truly, for the first time in years, like no other band sounds...

5 out of 5 stars The Stone Coyotes have done it again!.......2000-08-17

This album is so good that it gives me chills. I especially like "Where the Old Oak Grows" and "Highland Boy".
