Horrible Techno Muzak with Beautiful Singing.......2007-06-21
This is a Dr. Jeckal and Mr. Hyde CD. The singing is so incredibly beautiful but it's totally ruined with synthetic background "music". The drum machine parts are so bad it's like listening to a joke from Saturday Night Live.
Not for the Opera purest..........2007-05-19
A doctor buddy of mine and I were working the ER one weekend and he put this CD on. Now, I love just about any kind of music EXCEPT Opera and Country music depresses me after a few songs. Now, this CD sure smacked of opera but I was not offended. In fact, the longer I listened, the more I liked it. I didn't much care for the treatment of Bizet's "Carmen" but that was the only song I didn't care for just because I loved the original classical and just didn't like this arrangement. I guess I was primed for this sound through Yanni's "Aria" from his Dare to Dream CD. Thus the blending of contemporary instrumental music with an operatic voice or voices was born.
As for the disappointed opera fan/reviewer, this IS NOT opera and it was never intended to replace or even imitate true opera. Paul Schwartz was exposed to the opera, orchestral symphonies, rock music and dance clubs that were all within walking distance from his home as a young man. He simply took the sounds that appealed to him and put them together. Thus this, his first effort, leans heavily on traditional classical music that is familiar to a great number of people. I personally found his second release, "Aria, Vol. 2: New Horizon", to be much more enjoyable. "Aria 3: Metamorphosis" was released five years after "New Horrizon" and shows a more matured sound and is highly enjoyable. Paul embarked on another venture through the "State of Grace" series during those five years which I haven't heard, yet. I love listening to all three Cd's with #2 and #3 being my favorites of the three. So if you are an opera purest, Paul Schwartz's "Aria" compositions are NOT what you are looking for. But, if you're a New Age enthusiast with even a little appreciation for classical music, then you'll probably enjoy this CD along with his other works.
Opera meets contemporary music for sophisticated listeners.......2006-11-12
I listen to this CD over and over again. Traditional opera voices backed by modern instruments makes for distinct music that appeals to sophisticated adult ears. You don't need to be an opera fan to enjoy this beautiful, unique style of music. A true opera fan below was disappointed, but after buying Aria, I became interested in opera and added a couple of authentic aria CDs to my collection.
buy this cd!.......2006-10-08
When i first heard this CD i hated it. i had heard about it from several people and decided to buy it. i actually bought the box set that has all three Aria cd's. As i checked this cd out, the woman ringing me up said this was the most beautiful thing she'd ever heard and told me i'd love it. i told her i was more of a metal fan. Here i was, a fan of Metallica and Danzig and Tool, buying opera!? i did like the programming on this cd. the drum beats are clean and accompany the music just right; not too loud and not too quiet. the vocals, which at first i didn't like, are really endearing and beautiful. Rebecca Luker sings many of the songs here. i enjoyed this cd more and more with each listen. I like the fact that the lyrics were translated in the booklet so i could understand the words. Bottom line: this is an excellent CD! i would recommend this to anyone. give it a few listens and let it take you. Ignore what you think you know about opera and let his music enter you and enchant you and speak to you. your heart and soul will thank you. let the vocals of Rebecca Luker wash over you and show you the true emotional range of the human voice.
Incredible music from opera's master composers.......2006-03-04
If I could give this CD 10 stars, I would certainly do so. Five stars is not sufficient to describe this wonderful work of art. I am an opera fan but I am certainly not offended by these contemporary arrangements which brings these wonderful works to a modern audience.
The selection "Willow" from Verdi's Otello is haunting and mystical. "Un Bel Di" from Puccini's Madama Butterfly soars. Other works from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas; or Mozart's The Magic Flute; or Bizet's Carmen are arranged to be unique and evoke the context of the original opera.
Rebecca Luker's voice is superb. The electonic approach to these classics updates them, but never replaces the originals. They were not meant to replace only to offer a unique approach to classics.

Primordial Exquisite.......2007-05-30
Coyote Oldman make for such a satisfying experience in sound. Tear of the Moon was the first of their recordings to receive widespread attention, a recording of undeniable beauty, tranquillity, and power. I still return almost 20 years later to this tape for the peace.
the musical prescription for peace and tranquility.......2007-04-26
Being an audiophile, bed time seems like wasted time when not listening to great music. Most of the music this listener hears is too stirring to foster the mind frame necessary for a positive dream time. Enter Coyote Oldman. Some may dismiss this as new age music. There is an understandable skepticism about such music. Ultimately, such critics are missing out on "Tear of the Moon." This is the soundtrack to either a profound meditation or a good night's repose. Rest assured, "Tear of the Moon" is both relaxing and a quality listen. The Native American flutes and Incan pan pipes will gently carry the listener off to another world. Barry Stramp and Michael Graham Allen's aerophones dance in a mystical, reverb soaked state of tranquility. Originally released as a cassette, this version includes a twelve minute bonus track that brings the time up to a respectable CD length. "Tear of the Moon" is one of Coyote Oldman's most compelling vision quests.
Peaceful, Lovely, Mystical..........2006-08-03
I put my son to sleep every night playing this cd. We never grow tired of the beautiful music and we even bring it with us when we go on vacation. I highly recommend this album!!
Absolutely the most beautiful, mystical music I have heard.......2003-03-13
I first heard this music many years ago at a meditation group and was immediately sold. These are the most beautiful sounds played to perfection. I recently bought the CD (my cassette was getting a little worn) and introduced Coyote's sounds to my heavy rock loving husband who to his surprise sat in awe listening to it. I still use it for meditation, my husband uses it to drift off and relax with, this music can take you places!! I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't lost themselves in the Tear Of The Moon. Enjoy!
This album began my journey into Coyote Oldman music..........2002-10-06
Haunting is a word best describing this album. Incan pan pipes and Native American flutes together create beauty through sound. The music was recorded during the time between dusk and dawn which make this a wonderful album to listen to at night. Nice echo effect, too. Reminds me how blessed I am to be able to hear such music.

Album Description
At a time when synth-pop was all the rage, and unassuming ditties ruled the charts, Marillion's debut album, Script For A Jester's Tear nodded proudly to such ambitious forebears as Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. Lead vocalist Fish, in fact, bore an uncanny sonic similarity to Gabriel, a fact that his penchant for onstage theatrics did little to discourage. In turn, the rest of the band offered a '70s-flavored blend of Floyd/Camel-like melodic guitar lines, Rick Wakeman-with-an-attitude multi-keyboard cascades, and odd-metered rhythms. EMI. 2004.

Brilliant 80's prog (but seek the 2-disc edition).......2007-02-04
This album is one of the best albums of the 80's (and, in my opionion, Marillion's best). Marillion was one of a handful of British groups that took up the progressive rock style when all the classic bands (Genesis, Yes, Tull, etc.) were going for more of a mainstream rock sound. What this means is you get an album of epic songs (7 minute average rather than 3), poetic lyrics, musical ambition, and fantastic keyboard playing.
Although accused of "sounding too much like early Genesis", Marillion actually sounds less like them than most of the other neo-prog bands. First of all, Marillion has a strong, punchy, 80's sound that is a nice variant on the prog theme - at times they're even almost heavy metal (for the 80's, Marillion and Iron Maiden seemed to be your best bet for nice, melodic, energetic instrumental passages), although the keyboard-rich sound gives them a different sound than metal. Lead singer Fish reminds one of early 70's Peter Gabriel, but Fish is a much stronger singer - savage and over-the-top, with florid rolled "r"s (he kind of reminds me of Van Der Graaf Generator's singer Peter Hammill, too). Unfortunately, Fish toned down his singing soon after this album, but it was fantastic here and (to a lesser degree) on "Fugazi". Guitarist Steve Rothery is more reminiscent of Pink Floyd's David Gilmore than Genesis's Steve Hackett, he has that lovely feel that really sets him above many others. The lyrics are also distinctive - Fish's topics are more heavy metal than prog (drugs, sex/romance, etc.), but his lyric writing is much more florid and poetic than any metal singer (excepting maybe Fates Warning's John Arch).
My only caveat is, either buy the 2-disc version or pick up "B-sides themselves", because there's almost a whole album of great songs you'll miss out on from this era of the band if you don't ("Three Boats Down From the Candy", "Market Square Heroes", and the 20-minute epic "Grendel" are all as top-notch as the songs on this disc).
Marillion's next CD ("Fugazi") is nearly as good, but after that they never really achieved this sound again - they lost a lot of the energy and edge of this CD, tending towards a mellower, more rambling sound reminiscent of later Pink Floyd, U2, and alternative rock (although with some brilliant stuff on every album, especially "Anoraknophobia").
"When You Kissed Your Prince and Found Your Frog".......2006-11-13
"Script for a Jester's Tear" is Marillion's first proper album, originally released in 1983. It's an interesting listen, inspired by the sounds and evocative lyrics of classic progressive rock and covering a variety of topics close to the heart of the band.
Marillion sounds a little like early 1970s Genesis, though the production is a little more 1980s, and so are a couple of the keyboard tones. Lead singer Fish sounds like an angrier, more melancholy Peter Gabriel as well, which is interesting. The feel of the music is very different from Genesis though, particularly on this album. The atmosphere of the record is more like an album by The Smiths, and the lyrics, though theatrical and melodramatic at times, are more socially conscious, like in "Forgotten Sons", a song about the tensions of Northern Ireland. Fish is a unique lyricist, he bends metaphors in a very interesting way, and it makes for some curious imagery against his descriptions of the life around him, whether it be in the unrequited love in "Script for a Jester's Tear" or in his descriptions of a snobby "Garden Party". Though it isn't a concept album, there are a few lyrical themes that run through the record, (the idea of life being like a play, sons and fathers, etc) which are interesting to think about.
The one problem I have with this album is the 8 minute track "The Web". The music's all right, but there is this very, very, very high pitched synthesizers weaving in and out for atmosphere, and it's kind of painful to listen to on headphones, even though its not that loud a sound. It's just something about the frequencies it runs through. Spoils the song for me a bit.
The CD booklet of this remaster, though a little thin, contains lyrics for each of the songs and an introduction by Mark Wilkinson (the artist behind the cover art), describing how he came up with the cover, and how the sheet music on the jester's table went on to be a hit for Kajagoogoo. I don't know whether he was being serious or not about that, though.
There's a two disc version of this CD floating around, which contains a few B-sides and stuff on the second disc, including "Market Square Heroes" and Marillion's 20 minute epic "Grendel" (based on the Beowulf sequel of the same name by John Gardner). I'm kind of wishing I'd gotten that release now, but it's all right. I got a very good deal on the one disc edition, and those B-sides are available elsewhere, (on the "B-Sides Themselves" compilation, for instance).
There's great music on this CD, but for a newcomer to Marillion, I'd go for their third album "Misplaced Childhood" instead. It's a concept album, it's a little more acessible and it has Marillion's biggest hit "Kayleigh".
1983... Gabriel back with Genesis? - not quite, it's a new band ..........2006-02-01
I can remember the guy at our local Record store telling me about this "new band" in England who were really good. Evidently all the Iron Maiden fans were into them, they were called Marillion. So I listened to this album and from the first notes thought, sounds more like Peter Gabriel back with Genesis to me, being a big Genesis fan I thought... I'll take it!
Listening to it at home that night, the first track made me think of what would have been the first new track after the "Lamb lies down on Broadway", it just sounded so Gabriel period Genesis. By the end of the album I played it again it was fantastic one of the best albums I had ever heard. The lead singer (Fish) was very emotional both lyrically and in his vocal style - and also sang with great passion. Guitarist Steve Rothery seemed very talented and at times reminded me of Steve Hackett (who was in Genesis from 1971 - 1977). Mark Kelly - Keyboards was also very accomplished, as was drummer Mick Pointer on drums and Pete Trewavas on Bass (who would also join up with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Neal Morse (Spock's Beard) and Roine Stolt (Flower Kings) to form a superb "sideline" band called "Transatlantic" in 2001).
Certainly the intensity and emotion of the lyrics / vocals and music combined were captivating to me and it was an album that I played over and over and seemed to find something new in each listening. The songs build beautifully and contain a number of changes (of the 6 tracks 4 are over the 8 minute mark (Script for a Jesters Tear / Chelsea Monday / The Web / Forgotten Sons), Garden Party clocks in at 7 minutes. (The shortest track is "He Knows You Know" at just over 5 minutes). The title track was a highlight for me together with the song about drugs - "He knows You Know", "Garden Party" (which would go on to become an in concert favourite) and "Forgotten Sons" (which reminded me a lot of "The Knife" from Genesis (from Tresspass - 1970). "The Web" is a very well put together track with "Chelsea Monday" providing brilliant guitar work (both electric and acoustic) and again very well put together, very emotional.
In summary, a stunning debut album from a band that sounded so "Gabriel style Genesis" to me that had Genesis released it I would have been over the moon. It is really that good. Fish's lyrics and powerful vocal delivery together with Steve Rothery's exceptional electric and acoustic guitar work really carry this album to another level.
For me this is an extremely enjoyable album from start to finish. I enjoy listening to it as much today as I first did almost 24 years ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, it's superb.
magic.......2006-01-29
What a first album! Such a harmony exists only if the members of the band share the same ideas, dreams, thoughts, musical feelings.Fish's voice is: gentle, angry, soft, harsh, melancholic, mercurial. His range of emotions is infinite! The bass guitar by itself is a symphony.A lot of off time drums and bass.Very progressive keyboards. That is what i call ART-ROCK! Fish has the ability to transform his feelings into a poetry with unique style.Marillion( with Fish)is not easy to be assimilated. It is not for everybody(and that is the beauty of it).Fish's Marillion is very misjudged and unproperly appreciated(mainly in the US,like many other bands and singers[for example: Van Der Graaf Generator,Atomic Rooster
Blood,Sweat&Tears,Styx,Kansas,The Alan Parsons Project,Glen Hughes,The Boomers YYZ,Terence Trent D'Arby,Demis Roussos and Aphrodite's Child,Chris Rea,Supermax, Sam Brown,Vaya Con Dios,Clannad,Incognito,Jamiroquai,Infectious Grooves etc.] On ,the radio you can listen to Led Zeppelin,The Who,Rod Steward
Black Sabbath and other bands that i used to like, but come on-every day,365 days a year, only the most popular songs[ by their opinion],i'm sick and tired of it!But let's get back to Marillion. I love the music, the lyrics. All 4 studio albums with Fish are a work of art. There is an album called "B'sides Themselves",import-i recomend it to everybody who is into Marillion.Expand your mental outlook "...but don't be fooled by the radio, the T.V.or the magazines, they'll show you photographs
of how your life should be,but they're just someone else's fantasy..."-STYX "The Grand Illusion"1977

Customer Reviews:
A generous choice.......2007-04-06
This inexpensive twofer mixes perhaps the best work from London's 10-CD box of Haydn's complete masses recorded during the 1960s. With sparkling solo and choral singing and playing that was among hte best of its era, this set will provide insight into Haydn performance for collectors that only know his music through modern period practice performers such as Gardiner and Hickox.
Old Haydn style is clearly on display in David Willcocks' 1962 Missa in tempori belli, or mass in time of war or "Nelson" mass celebrating Admiral Nelson's victory over Napoleon at the Nile. Four and one-hald decades later this is still among the best versions of this music ever recorded. Aside from "The Creation", Haydn hardly penned a better piece of vocal music. Willcocks probably does not have a better recording to his name.
Another magnificent departure from today's period performance practice is George Guest's "Paukenmesse" and the way he features the kettledrum, espcially in the closing pages. Compared to the Gardiner period version, where the big drum is used less often and to less advantage, this must be considered a full throated attack in keeping with the composer's wishes.
The one shortcoming of the set is it divides the Paukenmesse over two CDs. This aside, no one will be disappointed with this set unless they are so dogmatic they can't set aside modern practice to accept instrumental and choral work that set a standard for 30 years.
Good Choice.......2006-08-14
I ordered this just to have Harmoniemesse but was happy to have the other pieces also. It's a nice variety of vocal arrangements. Recording is clear and chorus is good, sopranos sounding like boys choir. Ending of some phrases loses pitch sometimes but not enough to offend a sensetive ear.
Glorious masterpieces, glorious recordings..........2000-12-26
Deeply moving recordings of Haydn's awesome choral masterpieces. The conducting and singing are both impeccable and powerful, and London's acoustics are great. The soprano in the Nelson mass sings like an angel, and the organ shines through well. It was one of the earliest recordings to use Haydn's actual orchestration. The Nelson mass is available on a 24 bit CD in the Decca Legends series along with a great Handel Coronation anthem with the "God Save the King" chorus. Now back to this set... I love the kettle drum "military" portion of the Agnus Dei in the Mass in Time of War. The organ is quite charming in the Little Organ Mass, and the Harmonienmasse is sublime. The Teresienmasse is not included though.
If you like Haydn's masses, don't miss the powerful The Seven Last Words of Christ(not to be confused with Haydn's string quartet set with the same title), its finale will carry you beyond this world. Haydn's TeDeum is also quite magnificent.

If you missed out on these guys back in the day and can appreciate good, hard driving chord-based hard rock, then take a chance and go for this. If you dig old Dokken, XYZ, and Hurricane, then you will probably appreciate the fun contained on this disc. I think these guys were way underrated. Trust me, great guitar!

terrible album.......2006-12-15
This album sucked badly. I didn't like it at all and Melachi The Nutcracker didn't rap that much on any of the songs. It sounded like a Lil Dap solo album LOL.
real underground Hip Hop.......2006-09-28
One of the best Hip Hop undeground album !!! The golden years of Hip Hop are more or less the same : 93/94/95/96 (few till 1999 are still good,but...)
A Classic ... High Class of Muzic !!.......2005-02-22
One of tha best in tha game !!!! Respect to them..
Real Hip Hop.......2005-02-01
The best hip-hop recording since "Criminal Minded". I love the references to RASTAFARI.
A noticeable falloff.......2004-03-02
For as amazing as the first "Livin' Proof" release was, I expected a whole lot more. This release really disappoints if you liked the debut.
And if you'd never heard the debut before, you wouldn't be impressed at all by this one.
And this is probably due to one missing piece: DJ Premier. With DJ Premier producing, he could even make me sound respectable!
So this album sounds very average, very non-memorable. Very generic, nothing new is added here. Overall very disappointing, but at least you can get it really cheap used!

My favorite Missa Solemnis.......2006-12-14
Maestro Giulini knocks it out of the park with the Philharmonia. I have recordings of this piece with Jochum, Bernstein, Klemperer and Jochum. None come close, why EMI hasn't reissued this is a mystery. I was very happy to see it available at a reasonable price.
Very enjoyable....especially Mass in C.......2005-05-05
Surprisingly could not find this recording listed in any of my guides...not sure why it's missing.
I did find it in a used record store and decided to take a chance...I find the sound and performances wonderful, although admittedly I can't say that I can compare and contrast between other renditions. No need to worry about sound quality or quality of performances.
I do find the Mass in C especially compelling and a worthy accompanient to the Missa Solemnis.
Quietly ecstatic........2001-01-25
You might expect Beethoven masses to ring with monumental sublimity, and there are some tremendously exciting and violent movements in both these masses, when the soul contained by the everyday grind seems to exult in its unexpected release. The real joy of the Messa Solemnis, however, lies in the detail, the delicate clarity of certain passages; the extraordinary 'Sanctus', for instance, where a long violin of intricate beauty, quietly accompanied by slow orchestra gives on to the rapt singing; or the audacity of the closing 'Dona Nobis Pacim', where a startlingly secular fugue clashes with triumphal brass and rejoicing singing to create a Charles Ives effect of singular modernity.
The Mass in C is more conventional in its effects, playing like a brooding 'Messiah', but there is still plenty of exhilirating invention.
In the hands of a Karajan, this could have been a blodge of 'sublime' noise, but Guilini patiently picks out every note, unveiling a detailed tapestry of sound. If his playing is perhaps more worldly than we might expect from sacred music, than this astonishing cast of singers - Baker, Harper, Tear - are more than capable of spiritually transporting us.
Indisputably sublime........1999-06-28
Possibly the greatest recording of what may be the greatest musical work ever composed. Of course, there can be no one winner in either category. But the "Missa Solemnis" fuses deep spirituality with Beethoven's exploratory temperament and thus redefines faith itself as openness to novelty. Among recordings, Giulini's belongs for me beside Karajan's different but equally magnificent interpretation. If Karajan conveys Beethoven's rhythmic energy, Giulini makes time and space for cosmic vastness, mysterious quiet, and urgently human suffering and compassion. The soloists, in particular Janet Baker, give these unforgettable voice

Berlioz was the first Romantic master of the orchestra. His music hasn't been surpassed in terms of sheer brilliance and accuracy of effect. This set includes all of the overtures, the Symphonie fantastique, Harold in Italy, the Royal Hunt and Storm from Les Troyens, orchestral music from The Damnation of Faust and Romeo and Juliet, and the completely insane Grande Symphonie funebre et triumphale. Davis achieved his reputation as a conductor as a Berlioz specialist, and he proves an expert advocate on behalf of this stimulating, bizarre, and totally original genius. The recording quality, so critical in such colorful music, is also very good. --David Hurwitz

I am in a Box with Berlioz Box Sets.......2004-02-22
First I ordered Hector Berlioz Complete Orchestral Works (Box Set) in a 6-CD set by Sir Colin Davis because orchestral is what I like best. That was in 2002. Now I have ordered The Berlioz Edition (Box Set)in a 24-CD Box Set by Sir Colin Davis because I like what I have heard of Berlioz by Davis. I will put this up for sale, and if it doesn't go I will consider putting The Berlioz Edition up for sale after I have heard it. As I said I am in a Box with Berlioz Box Sets and can't afford both.
A superb set, well worth the price!.......2002-08-16
For those of us who grew up in the 1950s and '60s, the music of Berlioz means Munch and Toscanini: Munch for his incendiary performances of "Symphonie Fantastique," "Romeo et Juliette," "Damnation of Faust," the Requiem and the overtures (among others), Toscanini primarily for his gorgeous reading of "Harold in Italy" but also for his versions of the Roman Carnival Overture and (for those who could find it) the "Romeo" with Gladys Swarthout. These readings had one thing going for them, which was a rhythmic impetus that made even the slow movements exciting. Unfortunately, for those of us who read scores, when we checked these versions against the music we found that Toscanini and Munch had fiddled a bit with tempi and bowing accents in an attempt to make the music more exciting. Is this so bad? Not necessarily, because these conductors had this music in their blood, they were presenting Berlioz as they had processed him over a lifetime of love, and so their fast tempi had little in common with the rattly, jangly readings often turned out by John Eliot Gardiner.
Sir Colin Davis was, and of this reading remains, the greatest Berlioz interpreter of the stereo/digital era. This is no mean feat when one realizes that he now has several competitors in the field, among them James Levine and Charles Dutoit, but in my view only the wonderful John Nelson (whose recordings of the Te Deum and "Nuits d'Ete" with Susan Graham are so wonderful) really comes close. And what makes Davis so great is that, like those legendary conductors of old, he really gets under the skin of Berlioz and makes him exciting while maintaining score tempi. Listen, for instance, to his "Symphonie Fantastique," still the benchmark modern recording after nearly 30 years. Davis also excels in his readings of the Overtures, music from "Les Troyens," and the Symphonie Funebre et Triomphale which grabs the listener and pulls him/her into its vortex of sound.
In the other two symphonies, "Harold in Italy" and "Romeo et Juliette," I sense a lapse of sorts: the slow music is conducted not necessarily too slowly, but with a certain Romantic mushiness bordering on easy listening. This, for me, robs the "Romeo alone" and "Scene d'amour" of its passion, though of course it is wonderful to hear the score in modern stereo instead of Munch's cramped mono, and for me Toscanini's second movement of "Harold," with its peculiar yet engaging walking gait, shall never be surpassed--and, unlike Munch, Toscanini somewhat transcended his mono sound because of the wonderful clarity and transparency of his orchestra. Nevertheless, if I were forced to I would live with this Davis set over my Munch and Toscanini recordings because of their overall warmth and excellent sound.
Other highlights include excerpts from "Lelio" sung superbly by pre-leukemia Jose Carreras (listen to him ascend fearlessly to those high notes--he hasn't done that in nearly a quarter-century!), dramatically astute singing by Patricia Kerns and John Shirley-Quirk in "Romeo," and marvelous interpretations of the Overtures (oh, and you can forget "Rob Roy"...Berlioz decided after one performance that he would never publish it or even bother revising it, hence it is not here). I do question the omission of the Requiem and Te Deum (after all, they ARE "orchestral works"), but with so many riches at such a low price, who cares? Liner notes are sparse, and this is a slimline box which means paper sleeves and no jewel boxes, but so what? For this much Berlioz, so beautifully sung and conducted, the composer himself would gladly have plunked down ...
all the overtures *NOT*.......2001-05-04
This isn't a "complete" recording of Berlioz' orchestral music - what about the 'Rob Roy' overture? Granted it recycles some of Harold in Italy, but still...
A wonderful collection of Berlioz.......2000-08-15
This incredible six CD set features all of Hector Berlioz's purely orchestral music conducted by the great Sir Colin Davis, widely regarded as one of the greatest living Berlioz interpreters. In addition to favorites such as Symphonie fantastique, Harold en Italie and Romeo et Juliette, the set also includes the lesser known Lelio and several other works. The works were recorded between 1965 and 1980, and the sound is wonderful and rich. His interpretations are also lively and full of energy, especially in the overtures.
The Romeo et Juliette included in this set is my favorite of all the recordings of it that I've heard, although I haven't yet heard Sir Colin's more recent recording with the Vienna Philharmonic. The recording of Lelio is also well done. Jose Carreras and Thomas Allen are the featured singers in Lelio's song movements, and the fantasy on Shakespeare's Tempest at the end of the work is fascinating indeed. If you've only heard Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique and want to hear more of his works, or are looking for a nice collection of classic Berlioz recordings, then take a good look at this set.

Not one of his bests.......2007-03-02
I've only really heard three of Billy Ocean's albums, but this is probably not his best. Billy Ocean was one of my favorite singers back in the early '80's, so I may enjoy this album more than others. His popular ballad, "The Colour Of Love", is one of the better hits, but I think I like "Here's To You" better. "Here's To You" has better lyrics, more positive than "The Colour Of Love", and the rhythm sounded just a little more like a tender ballad. "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" was a song that was popular on the radio back then, but seems a little silly to listen to these days. As a whole, this album disappoints a bit, but isn't too bad. Perhaps with a couple more hits on this album, it would have been one worth keeping for the long run.
perfect album!!.......2006-10-09
Billy Ocean such as many other great artist , get so little recognition but these are the artist who actually paved the way for people r kelly and babyface , I suggest this album by far great when u in the mood with just that special person. I still listen to it till this day and play it like it was just new again!
This album is Awesome!.......2005-09-11
Wow, this album is off the chain. Probably the best 80's music I've ever heard. Billy Ocean is very underated, and this is definitely his best album. Every song is dynamite, and the production is fantastic. Buy the darn thing, its excellent feel good music and you won't be disappointed.
Great R&B!.......2005-02-24
Like 1984's SUDDENLY and 1986's LOVE ZONE,this album, released in February 1988,spawned four hits. They are the title track, the love ballads THE COLOR OF LOVE and HERE'S TO YOU,and the powerful-sounding GET OUTTA MY DREAMS GET INTO MY CAR. The other songs are good. I like STAND AND DELIVER also. I never saw the 1988 film starring Lou Diamond Phillips so I don't know if that song appeared in the film. The other songs are great. Billy Ocean put out a dozen hits in the five-year period in which this album and the two predecessors were released. After this album,Ocean would start slowing down recording. Two more hits followed this album,LICENSE TO CHILL and I SLEEP BETTER(IN SOMEONE ELSE'S BED) which appeared new on the GREATEST HITS album, released in 1989.
Excellent album to follow Love Zone!.......2004-11-07
This Billy Ocean album is still one of my favorites! For him to follow the very successful Love Zone album with this platinum album is an understatement. The big hits were Get Out of My Dreams, The Colour of Love, and Tear Down These Walls, but they're no contest to my favorites here. They are the grooving Gun For Hire and the rumbling Pleasure. Some other songs I like are Soon as You're Ready, Calypso Girl, and Because of You. But Gun is still strong today with that superb horn section, the danceable rhythms and other aspects. I played that song over and over on the tape in 1988! One of 1988's best albums to be released in at a time when 1987 songs and albums were number one hits in May, June and the summer of '88.

Product Description
There's something almost primal about Johnny Burnette and the Rock'n'Roll Trio, and it's not just the fact that these recordings were done more or less at the dawn of rock.
It could be that two-thirds of the trio (Dorsey and Johnny Burnette) were feuding brothers; rock history is replete with those, from Don and Phil Everly to Ray and Dave Davies to Phil and Dave Alvin to Liam and Noel Gallagher. Somehow, brawling musical sibs seem to bring out the best in each other. But it's more than just that.
The Burnettes' Coral sessions provide a unique insight into the building blocks of rock, before the days of overdubs, multi-tracking and synthesized anything. When the trio's guitarist Paul Burlison wanted to recreate a particular "buzzy" sound, he reached into his amp, grabbed a fistful of tubes and wires and yanked. It worked.
This music isn't cerebral. It's as if they opened up an artery and let the music throb out. If you ever loved Aerosmith's version of "The Train Kept A'Rolling" (or the Yardbirds', or Zeppelin's), you're in for a treat; in fact, it's the same treat that caused those bands to record that tune. The energy and vitality of these sides, nearly half a century after they were first recorded, just can't be denied.
