Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
While he releases his straight-ahead jazz projects under his own name, Branford Marsalis pursues his fusion experiments under the group name of Buckshot LeFonque, even though he's the only consistent member from track to track. Marsalis and such jazz colleagues as trumpeter Russell Gunn, keyboardist Joey Calderazzo, saxophonist David Sanborn and bassist Ben Wolfe seem to be having great fun as they run changes over the funk beat of "James Brown," the hip-hop loops of "Try These On," the Latin-jazz heat of "Jungle Groove" and the harder-than-hard-bop on the untitled, hidden bonus track. The album stumbles, however, when it tries to come to terms with words, as it does on eight of the 13 full-length numbers. There's some marvelous music in the background of these songs--the rhythmic punch of hip-hop linked to the harmonic imagination of be-bop-but it's hard to get past the awkward wordplay dominating the foreground. --Geoffrey Himes

Classical Evolution: Spanish Guitar Music.......2007-05-14
I find the music of Spanish guitar soulful and exotic. This is my first selection of this music, and I am well pleased by the sounds of this recording.
Just Learning.......2007-04-11
I'm really enjoying the music, but admittedly know nothing of it. A wonderful CD for a person like me.

Very peaceful music.......2007-06-11
I generally work for long hours at my computer and it can be stressful, I read the review for this cd , because one of my customers ( I manage Bolivia Stores at Amazon) wrote a review about this cd same as he wrote a review for one of my teas and I was very intrigued because he is a very religious person that lived in Bolivia with the Peace Corp, well... The price was great and I decided to ordered it...... I just love it, it takes away the stress of a long day !
It sound a bit boring in the beginning but once you get caught for the music is just peace all around!!
Gregorian Chants Review.......2007-05-06
The CD was delivered within the time stated and is as advertized ... good
Answer to a prayer.......2007-04-05
I have been frantically searching for a cd with some of the old Good Friday Gregorian chants I remembered from my childhood. I planned to play it as background music for our Good Friday service at a home for the elderly. I ran a search on Amazon and this was the first cd that popped up. I ordered it, thinking it would probably not arrive in time for the service. What a pleasant surprise to have it in such a short time and at such a low price. Beautiful music that would be worth purchasing at ten times the asking price.
Good Value.......2007-04-04
This collection of chants offers something for various seasons of the church year. The chants are well done, and they are useful for meditation purposes.
A good introduction to Gregorian Chant.......2007-03-29
This is a great way to be introduced to Gregorian chant, both for its quality and its low price.

Customer Reviews:
SUMMER OF LOVE SOUND.......2007-06-10
1967 was the year things started to change in music as ive been told i was only 2 at the time. But the music speaks for it self the BEATLES had SGT.PEPPER.THE WHO had SELL OUT the HOLLIES had EVOLUTION not nearly as earth shattering as PEPPER but very experimental CARRIE ANNE was the hit
and yes its a little corny but the rest of the album was deffinately trying to be a step the HOLLIES needed to take to be taken seriously has a pop band.i think GRAM NASH had a lot to do with this.the album is on the psycodelic side but its great fun to listen to in 2007 a big departure from what music is today.but a definate pop rock cd from a band very underated and too associated with an AIR SUPPLY sound .This is a far cry from air that i breathe.
A Hit and Miss Album!.......2007-02-12
"Evolution" was the first of two Hollies albums released in 1967. The band did a lot of experimenting in those years, both in songwriting and arrangements. Some of it worked, some of it didn't. "Butterfly" is often hailed as their finest and most consistent, whereas "Evolution" suffers from being anything but consistent. The songwriting is more or less on par with "Butterfly", but some arrangements in various degrees ruin the songs.
Worst is the "underwater" effect put on Graham Nash's voice on "Lullaby to Tim". It could have been a great track, but as it is, it's almost unlistenable. I have often wondered if a version with unruined vocals exists.
The distorted guitars put on the opening track "The the Heartaches Begin" and "Have You Ever Loved Somebody", give a forced feeling that does not help the songs, which are really good Hollies songs. The Searchers proved that "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" even had hit-potentials.
Enough negative words said, because there are plenty of succesful tracks that make the album quite enjoyable after all.
Like on the previous album all songs were written by Clarke, Hicks and Nash and Allan Clarke and Graham Nash more or less share the lead vocals with Tony Hicks joining in on choruses etc.
"Stop Right There" is a nice quiet Graham Nash ballad; fine violin solo. Nash also takes the lead vocals on one of the big highlights on the album "When Your Lights Turned On"; classic up-beat Hollies with great guitars and harmonies.
The nostalgic "Ye Olde Toffee Shop" featuring harpsichord is quite charming, but no more.
On "Games We Play" Clarke and Nash share the lead vocals. Incredible that this song was not released as a single. Extremely catchy with funny ( naive ) teenage lyrics.
Allan Clarke demonstrates his powerful vocals on several tracks such as "You Need Love" and "Leave Me".
"Water on the Brain" is another example; a song which also features a charming trombone solo.
So all in all you could call it a hit and miss album, mostly hits!
By the way, this review refers to the British version of the album.
A multicolored flash of light over the rainbow.......2005-07-29
The Hollies comes in colours. Still a masterpiece of the psychedelic catalogue, this album is one of the most beautiful flowers of the english garden. A breeze of fresh air in the magic summer of love.
Great bonus songs & remastering make it worth your while.......2002-06-03
"Evolution", like all the Hollies' lps, has it's share of filler and fluff. Nobody but the most diehard Hollies fan would really want to listen to "Ye Olde Toffee Shoppe" or "Lullaby To Tim", and "Rain On The Window" is just a less successful remake of their earlier "Bus Stop".
However, I'm pleased to report that the other seven songs from this US-version "Evolution" re-release are all very solid, enjoyable tunes, particulary "Then The Heartaches Begin", "Heading For a Fall", and of course, the hit, "Carrie-Anne".
Sundazed has also included five very good rare Hollies tracks ("rare" except for "Jennifer Eccles", of course.) "When Your Lights Turn On", in especially good.
Recommended to fans of sixties pop who are thirsting for something good beyond what they might already be familiar with.
The Pre-Butterfly Album.......2001-07-19
The Hollies unique vocal stylings are never more predominate than on this reissue of their early 1967 album. Not as coherent as it should be, this album still has some merit for anyone seeking a british vocal "fix". "Carrie-Anne" and "Rain on The Window" are bolth great cuts. Not too sweet, but the sugar is definitley present. "Heading for a Fall" is a great example as to how to make a 2 minute song be so catchy. The bonus tracks are all pretty good, and Sundazed, as usual, did a primo job with the stereo remastering. Of note is the very drug influenced song "Open Up Your Eyes", which, although not predating any of the huge acts of the day, was significant to the groups attempt at doing musically different things. This album is aptly titled for their next few releases saw major changes in bolth the orchestration and singing arrangements. Is second only to the "King Midas In Reverse/Dear Eloise" album Sundazed also puts out. Go there and then come here.

the best compilation!!!!.......2007-02-21
This CD is by far the best compilation of ATS/fusion music!!!! Every song is great!!!! I am a ATS belly dance teacher in a small town in Colorado, and I don't have access to new music that I can listen to. So I really rely on who's on the front and who's reviewed it. Whoever rated this CD before me was very accurate. Very usable for classes and choreography. Thanks to all who contributed.

collector's digipak packaging with tour booklet n' pics.......2007-05-16
i bought this because all the journey albums re-released in 2006 were issued in a collectible digipak which is a cardboard cover rather than a jewel box case. it included a booklet with lots of pictures and all the tour dates for that album. as for the music itself i liked the tracks Lovin' Touchin Squeezin, Daydream, Sweet and Simple the most. Not as easy to listen to as Escape or Frontiers but I love the clear sound of Steve Perry's voice before it started getting that horrid rasp. I liked Daydream because he starts out in a low voice instead of the usual high tenor.
Another Hard-Rockin Classic From Journey.......2007-03-13
"Evolution"cemented Journey's place as a AOR-radio staple after Steve Perry's poerful pipes gave them their first massive platnium success with "Infinity" in 1978.With its tuneful, melodic rock in plenty supply in such fine songs as "City Of The Angels","Too Late","Lady Luck","Daydream",the Top 20 hit and Journey classic "Lovin,Touchin,Squeezin" and "Just The Same Way"(sung by both keyboardist Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry),Journey became every teenager's soundtrack(and every rock critics's worst nightmare)in 1979 and beyoud,as their popularity grew with each new succeeding record until their breakup in 1987.Although I like some of their albums better than this one("Escape","Frontiers" and "Raised On Radio",to name three)"Evolution is still a fun,high-quality effort that I listen to whenever I feel down and I need something to pick me up.The 2006 reissue is the 1996 remaster in a digipack featuring a cool booklet that includes photos and tour dates from the period.
Excellent follow-up to Infinity.......2007-01-10
Journey's fifth studio album Evolution was first released in April of 1979.
After hitting paydirt with 1978's Infinity, Journey were now one of the biggest bands in the US after failing with their first three albums. The group's fifth album, Evolution, continues on the band's evolving from prog band to a successful rock band. However there was one change in the band and that was ex-Jean Luc Ponty/Montrose drummer(and a fellow native from my hometown of Whitman, MA) Steve Smith who replaced former drummer Aynsley Dunbar whom was sacked near the end of the Infinity tour. Smith joins lead singer Steve Perry, keyboardist Gregg Rolie, guitarist Neal Schon and bass player Ross Valory.
Like its predecessor Infinity, one-time Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker returns and his presence here is much appreciated. With him around, many of the songs actually have a slight Queen sound to them, but the album is pure Journey.
We kick the album off with the instrumental Majestic. This piece is very short, but it is like its title says. We then go into the ballad Too Late which is a great power ballad. The song has always been one of my favorite tracks. The classic Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' comes next and was the band's first US Top 20 hit. This classic ode to an ex of Perry's is a classic. We then segue into the great melodic rocker City Of The Angels. It fuses a melodic rock sound with a hard rock sound and the result is amazing and Smittie's drumming is superb. We follow with a great rocker When You're Alone (It Ain't Easy) which has one of Schon's best solos and the musicianship is killer! The first half ends with the ballad Sweet And Simple. Steve Perry's vocals on this track shows his range going from crooning to screaming. His scream from a middle A to a high A and back down after the guitar solo is brilliant singing at best which is lacking today in music. The music is powerful too and Schon's solos on this track are stellar.
The album's second side starts off with the rocking Lovin' You Is Easy which is a classic song. This song is a great rocker. Next was the album's second single Just The Same Way which featured Gregg Rolie on lead vocals with Steve singing the chorus. He was a great singer but he felt out of place compared to Steve Perry in his opinion. Next is another great rocker Do You Recall which is a very good song and a classic. We then segue into Daydream which is a slow and melodic number but a great song nevertheless. Lady Luck closes the album out on a rocking note and is a killer track.
Evolution proved once and for all Journey were a force to be reckoned with and this album reached #21 on the album charts and like Infinity would go Platinum within a few months of its release.
Sales notwithstanding Evolution is a great album and is another Journey classic!
In 2006, the album was re-released using the same remaster as the 1996 version but now the artwork is in a digi-pak.
Recommended!
Second Journey CD With Steve Perry Is Even Better Than INFINITY.......2006-11-04
EVOLUTION, which is Journey's second CD with Steve Perry out front on lead vocals, is even better than INFINITY. The album still opens with two ballads, the instrumental "Majestic" and the discontented "Too Late", but this time, the ballads at the beginning have more edge. There are fewer out-and-out rockers than on INFINITY, but those there are have more focus and edge than many of those on the previous album. The fact that past and present members of Journey advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, as well as increased funding for law enforcement, makes EVOLUTION an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Reissue, not rematered.......2006-08-30
Buyer beware. These new Journey releases are reissues of their 1996 remastered releases. They are NOT remastered in 2006. Rhino should be ashamed of itself for this (it's been 10 years - I would have gladly paid for a remastered version, but not for new packaging).

It wouldn't seem possible to do a reasonable survey of the 20th century trumpet playing on one CD, but somehow trumpeter Arturo Sandoval has done just that. Known as an immensely gifted and versatile player, Sandoval tips his hat to such jazzmen as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and his mentor Dizzy Gillespie, as well as classical players such as Timofei Dokschizer and Maurice Andre. More than simply playing tunes these trumpeters made famous, Sandoval plays in the style of each trumpeter, even pulling signature quotes from their solos. It's a remarkable feat. With Quincy Jones at the production helm, the music and backing band changes according to the tributee--lush big band swing, bebop, organ jazz, classical, and Latin music are all covered. Surprisingly, there's not as much Latin jazz as you'd expect from the former member of Irakere, but with so much ground covered, this is more of an observation than a complaint. --Tad Hendrickson
Customer Reviews:
wonderful.......2007-03-01
Cuban born Floridian Arturo Sandoval is one of the most nimble jazz trumpeters to be playing in the modern day. In the 1970s Sandoval befriended the legendary Dizzy Gillespie and toured Cuba and Europe with him. In the 1980s Sandoval sought political asylum from Castro's Cuba at the United Stated Embassy in Rome. This album of tributes is a wonderful bargain, featuring a wide spectrum of styles and standards played by a real master.
I love Sandoval's version of "Round' Midnight" to Miles Davis, inflecting that bluesy Davis sound with ghostlike precision. Nineteen tracks make this disc an unusually generous one, with superb sound quality and musical execution. A nice CD to own, to be sure.
True artistry.......2007-01-23
Arturo shines in this recording that pays homage to great trumpeters of days gone by. Sandoval demonstrates his flexibility and musical knowledge in this recording - and does an amazing job of imitating those great trumpeters, while lending just enough of his own style and artistry to make each piece his own.
A wonderful addition to the trumpeter, or trumpet fan's collection.
Its a Blast.......2007-01-12
If your're a trumpeter or trumpet enthusiast you will love this collection.I think Arturo did a wonderful job, you get a little info on the artiste who did the original pieces. This is great, dizzy, maynard great compilation.
Happy Dixieland to you !.......2005-08-18
I will repeat my review on other Sandoval album:
I always smile when I listen to Arturo Sandoval. His technique is absolutely unbeatable. And he also plays piano with great dexterity!
Here is my mathematical relationship to describe Sandoval's technique:
(Arturo Sandoval / Trumpet) = (Oscar Peterson / Piano)
Phenomenal.
album title says it all.......2005-07-27
I was reading some reviews about this album, and somebody asked the question, why?. Well, I think Arturo not only wanted to pay tributes to legendary trumpeters, (who inspired him to be who he is and play like he plays,) he wanted to show the world how beautiful the trumpet sound and styles have been this last century. It was his idea, no other trumpeter could have come close to what he's done, and he deserves all the credit in the world. The album is filled with some of the greatest titles ever to represent the jazz world and solo trumpet. I highly recommend this CD and satisfaction is guaranteed. Arturo truly is an important link to the evolution of trumpet.

*****.......2007-03-26
First off, if you can get your hands on the UK 2 disc version of Evolution, you should. It is far superior to this collection. This version is for the casual DOA fan. For those of you that thought Dead or Alive began and ended with "you spin me", you are in for a shock. Pete Burns is one of the most under rated vocalists and performers of our time. He has kept DOA going for over 25 years. They have contributed alot to dance music. Over seas, every single song on this cd was a huge hit. Pete Burns vocals are gorgeous and very powefull. He can sing words out of a dictionary and I'd buy it. Most of their singles are included here, including the haunting "misty Circles". As well as one of their best songs and their last American hit, "come home with me baby". which is included here for the first time on cd format as the single version. Produced by Lewis A martinee who was resposible for the success of Expose in the late 80's early 90's. DOA jumped on that band wagon. And succeeded.
Of course their biggest hits are on here as well.."something in my house", "brand new lover" and " that's the way".
The sad truth is that right now Pete Burns is fighting for his life and his face. He has been undergoing months and months of surgeries to repair the damage done by his plastic surgery. Hopefully when he recovers, he'll return to making great music with Dead or Alive.
Cool CD.......2006-08-14
I had a tape of Dead or Alive years ago and would play it in my walkman while I mowed the grass. Got me through the chore dancing and mowing. The CD has the same effect on my now, however I now have a yard man. Great songs and it will keep those legs and arms moving to the music. Love it!
Such a drag ...............2006-03-14
A simply spell bounding collection of HIGH NRG hits from the one and only DEAD OR ALIVE starring "Mriss" Pete Burns!
1. "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" - Perhaps a staple of the 80's. This original "Youthquake" mix cannot be out done.
2. "That's The Way (I Like It)" - DoA's Cheez Whiz moment on "Sophisticated Boom Boom" Still, a fine job. Pete's voice adds more of the much need character.
3. "In Too Deep" - Not the original "Youthquake" mix. No need for post-production, but a great composition.
4. "What I Want" - This gem from "Sophisticated Boom Boom" is not a lyrical triumph, but a great tune!
5. "Misty Circles" - This "Sophisticated Boom Boom" track is one of Pete and gang's greatest tracks.
6. "I'd Do Anything" - This "Sophisticated..." boom "bassic" song is as great lyrically as it's "stacottic" beat.
7. "Lover Come Back (To Me) (2003 Remix)" - The original mix is on "Youthquake". This mix is incidental.
8. "I'll Save You All My Kisses" - This track is only a slight variable of the "Mad, Bad and Dangerous To Know" version. Great song.
9. "Hooked On Love" - Again, slightly altered version of "Mad..."'s version. The fade out is a nice touch.
10. "Come Home (With Me Baby)" - This "Nude" tune shouldn't have been altered at all for this collection. Still, the song doesn't lose much of it's appeal.
11. "My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor)" - Altered, yet doable, version of the "Youthquake" hit.
12. "Sex Drive" - Pete 'does' it with an Italian twist. This "Nukleopatra (USA/AU/UK/JP)" track is well done.
13. "Turn Around And Count 2 Ten (2003 Remix)" - NO MORE remixes Peter! All in all, a great tune though.
14. "Hit & Run Lover" - "Fragile" gave us this perfect pop.
15. "Isn't It A Pity" - Pete's "Fragile" heart is better for this lyrical and vocal triumph.
16. "Brand New Lover" - This "Mad, Bad and Dangerous To Know" track isn't the single release. Fairly untouched and great!
17. "Something In My House" - More HI NRG and less Flamenca on this remixed version of the "Mad..." hit!
18. "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (Metro 7 Inch Edit)" Actually, from a collection hell bent on remixing perfection, this reworked classic isn't bad at all. It's Cherbot, and I love it.
Scarily good!.......2006-01-10
Ideal for people who like the song 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' so much they don't mind spending money on 17 other songs they will probably never listen to.
Splurge for the import 2-CD collection AND the UK-Only DVD!!.......2005-12-29
If you're a true DOA fan, there is only one option: splurge for the 2-CD UK Import set of EVOLUTION, featuring ALL of the hits plus many of the hard-to-find-on-CD original remixes (alas, no OFF YER MONG remix of IN TOO DEEP, why?!) - but why stop there when you can also spring for the UK-Import-Only DVD collection of ultra-rare VIDEOS, including the amazing, stunning, and maybe even a bit disturbing 2003 remix video of their biggest hit, YOU SPIN ME ROUND, featuring Pete Burns Circa 2003 pushing the envelope for plastic-surgery-as-art?! One look and you'll wonder if his current muse is Dave LaChapelle's AMANDA LAPORE?! He used to be a gothic/pop "freak" -now he's more like a cybo-tron drag queen robot - WOW! The sad thing is, Pete Burns CAN sing, CAN write hooks, and CAN put on a great stage show persona - too bad no major label in America will ever see fit to put out some NEW music by DOA, instead of Sony endlessly re-hashing, re-mixing, and re-releasing the same ol' batch of 80s hits over and over, ad nauseum. Pete and Co. really deserve better. Check out Pete's collaboration with PSB, "JACK & JILL PARTY," for electro-cheeky proof positive that DOA could still be a chart contender. Until then, buy this CD and the DVD - but wait, you'l need to get a Cyber-Home-300 region FREE DVD player first...but I digress.

No artist articulated the pride, pain, and passion of African Americans in the post-civil rights era better than singer, poet, author, pianist, and composer Gil Scott-Heron. These 15 selections from his historic Flying Dutchman recordings from 1970 to 1972 capture the sting of his social commentary and scope of his artistic dimension. The Chicago-born, Tennessee-reared, New York City-bred Scott-Heron drew equally from the blues, gospel, Latin, funk, and soul and created beautiful art out of the angst of those turbulent times. Together with lifelong partner Brian Jackson on keyboards, and occasionally backed by flutist Hubert Laws and bassist Ron Carter, Scott-Heron spoke about the ills and illuminations of black life: from the conga-pulsed identity issues of "Paint in Black" and the title cut, to the vast economic gap between white and black he so eloquently expressed on "Whitey on the Moon." "Small Talk at 125th Street" paints a nuanced picture of the famous Harlem street, and "Home Is Where the Hatred Is," with its Fender Rhodes chords and soulful and cinematic sound, and "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" not only prophesized America's future race and class problems, but also foreshadowed the rap and hip-hop movement, which Gil Scott-Heron birthed through his intensity and honesty. --Eugene Holley Jr.

The Very Worst of Gil Scott-Heron.......2007-03-12
What I thought would be a funk CD is instead a compilation of Whitey-Bashing. . .don't be fooled!
Essential.......2006-10-11
Before there was rap, there was Gil Scott-Heron. Before there was techno, there was Gil Scott-Heron. Before there was jazz-rock, there was Gil Scott-Heron. After 6 years of George Bush, where are you Gill Scott-Heron?
We need you now more than ever!
Before Michael Moore there was Gil Scott-Heron.......2004-01-18
Before the ultra popular retoric of Michael Moore there was the lone black voice of Gil. Literaly every one of the socio-political issues that Moore tackles through his books and films on the subject of America have been covered by GSH on this collection and his back catalogue. Of course GSH could not have reached as large an audience as Mr. Moore but none the less Gil's flag was flown there first!....His revolution was not Televised! Word to Brian Jackson on the keys and arrangments, brother Ron Carter(the most recorded Bassist in music History 500 Sessions +)and the underatted Pretty Purdie on drums and the eloquent Hubert Laws on Flute/Ts.
Get this first as an introduction and then try "Winter in America".

Before there was rap, there was Gil Scott-Heron.......2003-12-31
Gil Scott-Heron was truly an artist who was ahead of his time. Evolution (And Flashback) is a compilation of tracks from his first three albums. After those albums, actually starting with his 3rd album Free Will, he'd go into a direction more based on jazz and funk. But his early work is truly revolutionary and would become influential several years later for highly political artists such as Public Enemy and Rage Against The Machine.
Many of the tracks here just consist of Scott-Heron's beat poetry over a set of bongos. His lyrics and delivery are biting and go right for the throat, particularly on the tracks "Whitey On The Moon", "Ain't No New Thing", "The King Alfred Plan", "Evolution (And Flashback)", and "Enough", which all deal with the racism which was still very prevalent in this country at the time. "No Knock" and "Small Talk at 125th & Lenox" are also strong tracks with the former discussing a new law at the time which gave police the right to enter one's property without warning. Many of the other tracks, such as "Who'll Pay Reparations For My Soul", "The Vulture", "Home Is Where The Hatred Is", and "Get Out Of The Ghetto Blues" continue in a similar lyrical path, albeit not as militant, and are backed by the stellar musicianship of long-time collaborator Brian Jackson. "Free Will" is also a very strong track driven by its jazzy bass line and excellent flute solo. Finally, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" with its political lyrics and its funky bass line would influence countless rap acts several years later. Highly recommended, particularly to fans of music which discusses social issues.
This CD is REAL.......2001-10-26
I am in my early thirties and I was a child when Gil Scott was laying down these lyrics/poems. For the Generation Y'ers out there, particularly African-Americans who were not even born when these tracks were recorded, you need to get this album. Why? Because many of you have been anesthized by the consumerism and materialism of the post-soul era and really don't know the hard times and despair with no social safety net of the late 60's and early 70's that Gil Scott is describing on these tracks. The despair and hardship of urban life or in some urban communities that is exploited and commercialized in so-called gangsta rap had its origins in the policies of benign neglect that were implemented in urban areas in the late 60's and early 70's. Gil Scott is giving you that realness with out the over the top violence, drug abuse-drug dealing and mysogny of today's "reality" artists. Two of my favorite tracks are:"Ain't nothing new" and "Enough". "Ain't nothing new" deals with how Black culture has been ripped off by non-black artists who went off and made millions while their Black patrons got jerked. Sounds familiar? Hence the title:"Ain't nothing new". The track "Enough" is just a vent of a man who just had enough of this society's abuse and now that man is telling this society what he thinks. I know that this is a stretch, but you can almost say that "Enough" is Gil Scott's Post-word to the books "Invisible Man" and "Ex-biograghy of a Colored Man".
Get the album. You'll love it. You will be informed and not just entertained.

Album Description
Nigeria in the 1970's had one the biggest recording industries on the continent as well as one of the most diverse. The fusion of African rhythms and culture with jazz, funk, soul, and rock was an Africa-wide phenomenon but nowhere was it more prolific and active than the cities and dance floors of Nigeria.
These twelve rarities highlight how the Afro sound influenced all areas of the music scene and how it progressed throughout a very creative and energetic decade. From funky afro-jazz, soul and afro-highlife to big, dance floor afro-beat - Nigeria's sounds were as diverse as they were uplifting.
All of the tracks featured within this album are very rare; none have ever been released outside of Nigeria - and many of them were small underground releases appearing only on long deleted albums or 45's. All have been lovingly tracked down, licensed and re-mastered. Enjoy!
Customer Reviews:
Simply great.......2005-03-12
This is one of the best afro funk compilations to come out since Nigeria 70. The godfather of afrobeat Fela Kuti represents with one of his early more obscure tracks Fogofogo (ghanaian sland for "bottle breakers"). It's kind of coincidental fogo fogo is the track featured. I have a very rare copy of the track on tape including incredibly hard to find Fela tracks like the original "Chop and Quench", "Going in and Out", "I go shout plenty", "I no get eye for back" and "Beautiful dancer".
Nigerian highlife legend Victor Olaiya also represents with "Omelebele". Orlando Julius drops in with "Mura Sise". However the best tracks on the CD come from the more obscure groups. Afrobeat devotees are probably already familiar with the Sahara All Star Band from the Nigeria 70 compilation. Their track "Alikali Aladjo" is the album opener. I absolutely love Bola Johnson's "Lagos Sisi", a tale of a country girl gone bad in the big city.
The very best track is "Ire" by the Don Issac Ezeikel combination. You never heard a song of worship this funky. "Afro baby" by Stephen Osita Amaechi is one of those songs you should really listen to via ear phones to fully appreciate the drum work in the background. "Ifa" by Tunji Oyelena was one of my personal favorites on Nigeria 70 and he does not disappoint with "Ipasan", a funkified musical version of a yoruba folktale. "Ochonma" by The Martins Brothers Band has a groove to die for and is my second favorite song on the cd. It's even better if you can understand Ibo as the brothers sing in turn moaning over the hell their relationship has become with the beautiful "Ochonma".
Fred Fisher, Thornby Nyenwi and The Mebusas round up the album. It has been absolute trip listening to music that was popular in my country around the time I was born. I hope to do my bit to salvage the music when I go back. For now I have to rely on Soundway records and I hope that Miles Cleret keeps up the good work.
