This is where Miles Davis turned funk into jazz, rock into soul, and chaos into Beauty. With a rotating cast of bands featuring keyboardists Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea, guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist Airto Moreira, saxophonists Gary Bartz and Wayne Shorter, and myriad other explorers, Davis kept up with the times...and surpassed them. He rocked harder than Sly, got funkier than J.B., and turned jazz inside out, slicing the music open till blood spilled on to the floor. More focused than Bitches Brew, which is all the more surprising since it's actually a piecemeal recording from various dates and venues--some in the studio, some on stage, but all very much l-i-v-e. --Robert Wilonsky

Exactly what was Pink Floyd's The Wall? Rock opera? Concept album? Performance art? Mere entertainment? While the truth may lie in a combination of all of the above, during the band's tour of 1980-81, The Wall was a bona fide spectacle. More than anything, Is There Anybody Out There? captures the volume, the bombast, and the grandeur of these famed performances with remarkable accuracy. Meticulously recorded, these concerts are astonishingly faithful to the band's studio versions and flow out of the speakers with practiced authority and absolutely fantastic sound. That said, there are few new revelations to be gained from hearing The Wall live that can't be gleaned from the studio version. Some moments do have an additional spark, however. "Run Like Hell" is launched with blistering intensity, and the first notes of "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1" will surely raise a shiver. The release also includes two tracks ("What Shall We Do Now," "The Last Few Bricks") left off the original release due to space constraints. Essential for Floyd fanatics as well as those wishing to hear just how terrific a live concert can sound. --S. Duda

Better than the studio version.......2007-05-25
I got this as a gift from a friend and was first impressed with the very nice package of great photos and artwork. Honestly, it sat around for a while before I listened to it because I was never really that excited about The Wall as an album. Finally I listened from beginning to end and was pleasently surprised. I think this version is much better than the original studio release as it has a more cohesive feel to it and is not nearly as disjointed. The audio quality is fantastic too. The studio version was recorded in four different studios if I remember correctly, and you can tell. Here, the band is performing to visual presentations onstage so everything must stay together, and of course, there is always something magical about a live performance that you can't reproduce in the studio. All of the earlier PF live stuff is great though, like Cruel But Fair for example.
This is a must have for the hard core Floyd fan! Don't buy the cheesy two disc set, get the box set, it is a far better presentation.
Buy it now!.......2007-05-07
My boss at work recently lent this to me- at first I thought I would burn myself a copy- but the minute I put it in my player I knew I just had to buy it! Like every other Floyd experience, this is magical too.
Thank you Steve :)
Where's the legimite DVD?.......2007-04-26
5 stars for the audio CD...
But, more than a review I would like to ask if the "Is there Anybody Out there?/The Wall Pink Floyd" has been released on DVD as well?.
I have seen some DVDs on sale under the name of "The Wall at the Earls Court" but according to some reviews there...that DVD is a pirate DVD, nothing to do with this Audio CD.
Is There Anybody Out There...to help me?
Careful what you get!.......2007-01-25
The music is great, the bad rating is for Amazon. Although I've ordered the limited edtion, I received the "simple" editon. Of course, I got my money my money back (thanks for that) but I still wanted the limited edition. When I contacted Amazon, they've told me there is no way to ensure that I'll get the right edition and that it seems there is a problem with this product.
A piece of history.......2006-12-28
I never liked the studio version of 'The Wall'. All in all, I believe Roger Waters lost his mind and slipped into complete megalomania while they recorded their epic double album of despair. Of course, the wall has a group of outstanding songs that should have made up a single album. As a double album/cd somewhere along the way the music starts taking the listener down a one-way path to places that aren't very interesting at all.
That said I still have to give this live edition 5 stars. Why? It's a bloody good show. If you can get beyond the whining of Waters and concentrate on what he and the band accomplished theatrically then I believe you will find this a considerably enjoyable experience.
Plus, it's really cool to go back in time and hear Comfortably Numb played live for one of the first times ever. That's amazing in itself.

Born in Abbott, Texas, Willie began performing when he was four and was encouraged by his grandparents to learn musical instruments. Willie opted for guitar and his sister Bobbie chose piano. He began writing songs when he was seven and later penned the Patsy Cline standard "Crazy," Faron Young's "Hello Walls," Billy Walker's "Funny How Time Slips Away" - all hitting the Top 40 charts. This musical icon's career has helped shape the sound of country music. Throughout the 60's, he recorded a series of minor hits, leading to his "outlaw country" image in the early 70's. In the mid-70's, Willie reached superstar status when he released the cross-over hit single "Blue Eyes crying In the Rain". Making his jump to the big screen, he recorded his signature song "On the Road Again" for the film Honeysuckle Rose. The next few decades teamed him up with many diverse partners including -- fellow country outlaw, Waylon Jennings; Latino pop star, Julio Iglesias; The Highwaymen, Waylon, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash; Electric Horseman, Robert Redford; fellow Farm Aid founders, Neil Young and John Mellencamp; and of course, the IRS. Willie continues to give back to the music community by embracing the second generation of outlaws like Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Kevin Fowler and other up and coming Texas music artist. With over 100 albums constant touring, year after year, Willie Nelson has crossed all cultural and socio-economic lines. Recorded in October 2003, Willie Nelson is Live at Billy Bob's Texas.

Customer Reviews:
Intergalactic Space Crusaders........2006-01-07
This live cd and dvd preformance portrays the very best of Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Star One project and Ayreon project. Some of the vocalists are Russel Allen (Symphony X), Floor Jansen (After Forever), and Irene Jansen (Ayreon) among many others. The blaze through a set that spans "Space Metal", "Into the Electric Castle", "The Universal Migrator (both parts)" ,and "Actual Fantasy." Some highlights are the Stargate-like set in which Floor and Irene spend a lot of the time singing beautifully, the drum and bass solos, and the dueling guitar and keyboard segment. If you are a fan of any of Arjen's projects or like very complex progressive metal with elaborate concept albums then this is a must buy. I shall be listening to "Intergalactic Space Crusaders", one of the best songs ever!
One of the best live albums I have ever heard.......2004-11-23
This is the 2 CD set with the DVD of Star One's live performance.
You are really lucky to hear a good live album, especially with the highly overproduced CD's of today. No overdubs and its unlikely that the singer can sing as high or clear as on the CD. But not so here. Arjen surrounds himself with good singers and musicians, and the sound is huge. True, some of the lyrics are cheesy, and Robert doesn't do so well in spots, but the live versions are often better than the studio versions, with a higher energy.
Standout tracks are "Songs on the Ocean", "Dawn of a Million Souls" (my personal favorite), "Into the Black Hole" (Damian is great here), "Valley of the Queens", and "Isis and Osiris". All are much better than the studio tracks and some have different arrangements which make them better live. Russell Allen and Damian are vocally great. Floor and Irene Jansenn mesh together perfectly. Irene compliments Floor's voice very well. Peter Vink's bass and Ed Warby's drums tones are huge. Arjen's guitar tone is also very good.
The DVD is good. According to Arjen's notes he never intended on releasing the DVD. It was recorded with one or two cameras and sound off the board. Then two fans submitted their extra video shots from in the crowd and they mixed them together into the video. It is surprisingly smooth, although a couple of times seems out of sync (hence the previous reviewer's comment on Robert's lip syncing). The stage is really small for so many singers/players. But overall my friend and I liked the DVD.
Arjen's "Human Equation" CD is in my CD player at home and I listen to it all the time. Star One live is my main car CD rotation.
The best $20 you could spend!.......2004-02-29
This, my friends, is THE best live album I have ever purchased. It comes with 2 CDs and one DVD of an amazing 2+ hour show that will completely floor you (no pun intended). Performed by Guitarist/Singer/Keyboardist mastermind Arjen Lucassen, keyboardist Joost Van Den Broek, bassist Peter Vink, drummer Ed Warby, and special guest flutist Ewa Albering. But the stars of the show are the singers- Symphony X's Russel Allen, Threshold's Damian Wilson, After Forever's Floor Jansen, her sister Irene Jansen, and finally, the very freaky Robert Soeterboek.
The show in Rijssen, Holland, "lifts off", and you're on a nonstop thrillride all the way until the end. Whether the music is loud and the lights are flashing, or it's slowed down and the keyboards are haunting, there's never a dull moment. An amazing array of material is performed, not just Star One. There are about half a dozen Star One songs, and then there are tracks from every Ayreon album. Fans of Into the Electric Castle will really enjoy the spot on (or really, improved) playing of Isis and Osiris, The Amazing Flight in Space (in which Arjen and Joost have a soloing battle/shoving match, truly hilarious), Valley of the Queens (this is a real gem, an accoustic ballad with Floor doing a superb job), The Castle Hall, and in the encore, Two Gates. The rest of the songs are quite flawless as well. Songs like The Dream Sequencer are amazingly improved with the energy of a live setting.
The DVD also includes some bonus features that didn't have to be there, but certainly aren't bad. A humurous set of behind the scenes footage, an additional encore/closing song Space Truckin, which didn't fit on the audio CDs, two songs from the show in Tilburg, and a nice photo gallery. Not shabby. None of what you're getting in this package is shabby, and again I'll say, it's a fantastic deal. You're getting the entire show in CD and DVD format, for the price of what would be one DVD alone.
In conclusion- if you're a fan of progressive rock/metal music, even if you don't particularly enjoy Sci Fi and Fantasy subjects, get this album. It is surely one of the best live shows you'll ever seen recorded, period.
Russell Allen voice is amazing.......2004-01-25
You will never hear a more perfect Rock voice than Allen. It really shows because he is along side some other very talented singers.
He is like Paul Rodger, Steve Walsh, and Ronnie James Dio all in one but better.
Great buy with the dvd thrown in there
Hilarious but excellent at the same time.......2004-01-21
This is an excellent CD/DVD package. Musically, this is heavy, progressive and driving, but melodic at the same time. A few songs remind me of the band Rainbow especially "Set your controls". Great choice and range of vocalists here; Robert Soterberg being the David coverdale lookalike baratone( he is also a terrible lip-sinker, actually he is quite hillarious at times, especially when he begins to sing a song too early-watch the DVD and see for yourself), Russell Allen has a great all round voice and Damien Wilson having a slightly higher tonal range.
From my point of view, the star performer and suprise here is Damien Wilson. This guy is incredible, what a fantastic singer. A very talented performer, the song "into the black hole" is fantastic due to the powerful and haunting Wilson vocals.
This Arjen guy is also very talented. This was the 1st time I had heard any of his stuff and I was impressed with the quality and depth of songs. A very good buy.

YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO GET THIS!!!!.......2007-03-22
If you're a big Korn fan, you already have every song on this disc. If not, then it's a great package for a great band. Korn has had a great career, and this Greatest Hits shows that. It also shows that the mainstream changed for Korn, not the other way around. Even their hits are hard and explicit. But the real reason to get this is...THE DVD
THIS IS THE GREATEST DVD EVER RELEASED BY KORN. IT IS AN AWESOME, FREE, SMALL PERFORMANCE AT THE LEGENDARY CBGB'S. NOT ONLY THAT, IT'S AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE FROM KORN. IT'S THE SHOW YOU WISH YOU WERE AT. THE SHOW THAT SOME OF US EXPERIENCED BACK IN THE DAY. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM TWICE BEFORE "FOLLOW THE LEADER", AND THIS ONE REALLY TAKES ME BACK.
THE DVD ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THIS ONE. NEW FAN OR OLD...JUST GO GET IT!!!!!

Decades after Jim Morrison's death effectively ended the Doors' career as an active band, the surviving members' legal efforts to wrest control of their legacy from others yielded some pleasant surprises. Found during the effort were a dozen or so professionally recorded concerts from late in the band's career--recordings they began to self-distribute online through their own Bright Midnight label. This 13-track from-the-vaults anthology effectively culls together a new Doors live album that chronicles some edgy moments from 1969 and '70. With singer-provocateur Jim Morrison ever the focus, the band has bravely eschewed sonic revisionism in favor of a largely unvarnished historical snapshot. Kicking off with an 11-minute-plus take of their signature "Light My Fire," the band quickly shows that its jam-ethos was more about emotionally charged musical consciousness expansion than about showcasing their licks to a perfect groove. Morrison leads the charge throughout, whether playfully crooning during a 1969 Hollywood Aquarius Theater take of "Touch Me," carousing through "Been Down So Long" and "Roadhouse Blues" in bluesy/boozy 1969 shows in Detroit and Boston, respectively, or playing the role of mad shaman poet to the max in a rare, 16-plus-minute live invocation of "The End." --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
'Bright Midnight - Live In America' is a limited edition release features 14 live performances recorded at various cities between 1969-1970. Includes one of three live versions ever recorded of 'The End', with Jim's improvisation of some free-form poetry. Bright Midnight/Rhino Records.

Three Stars For John, Ray, & Robby.......2004-12-28
Here I will insert my detailed review of this album which is taken from the comments section over at MarkPrindle.com
I can be reached at cddude24@yahoo.com for any questions or comments.
----------------------
I'll start this off by saying that I'm a huge fan of The Doors. I have all six of their albums with Jimbo, Other Voices, Full Circle, In Concert, I've heard their box set, and I attended one of their concerts this year under the name "The Doors Of The 21st Century." It was with a live bassist and drummer that was actually better then John Densmore, singing for them was Ian Astbury, {yeah the 80s Cult singer who belted out 'Fire Woman,' to Mtv,} who was absolutely astonishing. Whether you actively despise the Cult or not...this man could sing those songs margins BETTER than the untrained Morrison and the soul and the energy that night was unbelievable. You can purchase Doors Of The 21st Century live albums at http://www.disclive.com ...it'll blow your mind. And you're wallet if you're not careful.
Anyway, Live In America to me is another document of Mr. Manzarek, Mr. Krieger, and Johnny "Appleseed" Densmore being in their signature psychedelic trance that made everything the Doors ever did so enjoyable, {it's as Ray once said, "people say this is Jim's music. It's not. Jim never made music, he wrote words,"} with an often unenthusiastic [and uninspired] Morrison on top. His commentary is often philosophically brilliant however, as stated, moments like "Bellowing," are god-awful and it often doesn't get a whole lot better. Always interesting but now in the 21st century when the Doors have an extensive catalogue of official material, bootlegs [of better quality], and a touring band that features the key original members, songs, and a singer who is alive and can really keep up, Live In America I find is merely inferior.
--- Jon Blanton 2004 (C) cddude24@yahoo.com
"let me tell you about heartache and the loss of god...".......2004-03-03
Jim, Ray, John and Robbie roll, explore and climax on this recording. Excellent mood setter...sensous delivery...highly recommended if you're a Door's fan and love "this is the best trip; the part I really like," while understanding the jazz tonality and blues traditions as seamless aparitions that ensconced and nurtured this band to its height. Awesome delivery...and emplifies the lyrics: "take a journey to the bright midnight." Get it if you get off to this band.
Great music, but another shameless Doors release.......2003-03-30
Think about it. Who's going to buy this? Thank God it's limited--at least they admit they'll try to get a quick buck and run. If you're really into rare live Doors material, chances are you'll go out and get the full double-disc sets from Bright Midnight that this single disc is culled from.
BUT, of course, this disc has tracks appearing nowhere else. So now you can kindly pay the Doors once again for material you already have (if you get the other sets.)
The Doors will pretty much never miss a chance to sell you something you already have. I love this band, but the treatment of the live and recorded output by both band and record company has been shameless. At least they got Bright Midnight going. (After claiming that the tapes they're releasing now didn't exist.) But hey, they already got fans to buy a box set that had yet another greatest hits in it as well as another box set of studio albums remastered yet again...and didn't even both releasing the non-Morrison Doors albums.
If you can find this used somehow, get it to hear the stuff that hasn't been released on other Bright Midnight discs. Otherwise, go and get the full shows. The Doors are rich enough already.
hard-core or moderate fan?.......2002-12-07
I'm a hard-core fan so i didn't spent my money on this cd, i bought the two complete concerts and the rehearsal. 3 double cds that contains all that's on this one and much more. Of course, if you're just a moderate fan, this is a great deal but for a hard-core fans who wants everything and more, buy the complete concerts direct from bright midnight records, otherwise, you would be greatly disppointed to find out that there are complete concerts available and that you just buy some excerpts of the concerts. A hard-core fans buys anything, to be one of them, you must have at least 10 bootlegs like i do.
not morrison at his best, but entertaining.......2002-08-17
first of all, im sure all the doors (and sugerman) made a whole lotta money off this cd, and the so called "stoned immaculate:tribute album" which im sure morrison would have hated. and the reason is that ANYTHING by the doors will sell because so little has been released--including some of their best performances. why is this? because the other three doors are sitting on them, waiting for the legend to grow so they can finally release them at the highest price possible. maybe they should have done it when that horrible movie came out and people were doors crazed for awhile. one show from 67 in CT (at a high school, believe it or not) is, along with the roundhouse, the best recorded show from the doors i've heard. (you can get it on bootleg, and you should. jim would never have wanted his art commodified like this, and i think the doors know that--but alas, the money machine's growth may be more to them after all these years than the wishes of the man who made the band and got them successful.
i did buy this album, and was pretty disappointed. there are some cool moments("why shouldn't i feel goooood") ,but this seems to have been after morrison lost the fire.
make that money, guys.

Customer Reviews:
A great live recording........2003-09-17
I had the pleasure of seeing Covenant perform live while touring for "Northern Light." Seeing them live was my initiation into their brand of futurepop/darkwave, so I would hold any live recording of them to a pretty high standard. "Synergy" is definitely a great live recording. The sound and production is clear, the music is tight, and you can just feel the audience's and the band's energy feeding off each other. Eskil Simonsson's voice is top notch, never going off key, and always a pleasant listen. While some might find his constant "thank you"'s to the audience to be a tad too much, I think it's just one more indication of the band's desire to make music the audience will enjoy. The music includes a good selection from the three most recent albums at that time. While nothing is heard from "Dreams of a Cryotank," there's a good mix of songs from "United States of Mind," "Europa," and "Sequencer." If nothing else, it's a good way to see how the band's sound has evolved over time, as well as how they tie it all together into a unifying theme. Their earlier material may not be very similar to newer stuff, but when they play live, it all makes sense. Covenant are just a very good band and they make great music. This live recording is proof of that.
