Bridging the channel between smooth jazz and hip-bop/acid jazz are Down to the Bone, a band that mixes live horns with grooves and beats and comes up with something classy smooth. Down to the Bone are more about the dance floor than the listening room, but they do spice the mix with some up-front horn charts and often use interesting instrumentation (is that an oboe?) to keep things moving. --S. Duda

One of the best listening experiences ever.......2007-04-12
Rarely do I listen to an album that I love beginning to end, but this one succeeds easily. I never get tired of hearing it, and like another reviewer commented, it just makes me happy all the way through -- it's a great pick-me-up after a long, hard day. I can't help but MOVE to the complex layers of rhythm and music, all interwoven with amazing balance, and even though I've listened countless times now, it seems I'm always picking up some new element in the sound. Some groups play music, others MAKE music. DTTB is definitely in that latter category.

why this album cost nearly $60? I was looking to buy it, but not for that kinda price. My "lone star" rating does not reflect my review but it's cost.
NOT THAT INSPIRED.......2004-08-31
When I heard "brooklyn heights" I hoped that this band had other songs in the same vein, but they do not.
The rest of the cd sounds like uninspired acid-jazz, with not enough musical chances taken.
"Brooklyn Heights" is such a great track, that it makes the rest of the cd seem inferior!
It seems like these dudes have the right idea of musicality, but they don't seem to take it as far as they should.
It sounds like they don't want to scare off their "smooth jazz" audience, so they keep the songs flat, and boring.
Had potential, but falls flat.

Am I the only one whose favorites are "Muesli Brown" and "Savour the Flavour"? I could listen to the 2 tracks all day long. Great Disc...highly recommended.
