Among those artists currently reinventing the jazz piano trio--such as E.S.T. and The Bad Plus--Hiromi is rapidly moving to the forefront. A protégé of Ahmad Jamal who played in duet with Chick Corea when she was 17, Hiromi's influences are very broad--Beethoven and Debussy somehow align with P-Funk. Part of her success lies in her skill with electronics, evident in the pulsing rhythmic overlays of "Kung-Fu World Champion" or the strange, calliope-like sound that announces the theme of "Brain." But it's her consummate piano playing that ties all of the threads together, whether it's the impressionist-flavored solo of "Green Tea Farm" or the bustling runs and charging interplay that she leads on "Desert of the Moon" with bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Martin Valihora. i have all jane's recordings.they are in my top 10 bands of all time,next to floyd,eloy,zepplin...live at home says it all about them.at their best,so passionate to express their love for pure rock'the real one that rarely exist these days.do your self the biggest favor of all time and buy this record.lay back and listen to it,you'll then find out why we loved rock at the first place...

Jane Live Concert.......2001-07-07

I first heard of Jane in mid seventies. They have that sound that separates them from the pack. Everyone should enjoy this concert. All hits and very well done. I can listen to this cd over and over. Some space sounding tracks, very medolic and rocks too! River and High Time for Crusaders are the best tracks but all are very good! Play it loud! I do.

Lyrics Lacking.......2002-12-18

In my english class at South Burlington High School we were doing a poetry unit. Our teacher was talking about quality of poetry--bad, in particular--and said how so many high school age kids write complete doggerel that they think is brilliant because they're showing emotion. He went off on how bad this stuff is, and we all agreed: a couple of us immediately thought of none other than Dan Blockhead. SO, I printed out some of his lyrics from his website and brought them into our class, and our teacher said that this was exactly what he was talking about and we all enjoyed a good chuckle. Dan, please learn how to write lyrics before you make any more music.

He has a gift for lyrics and melody, and you will find yourself humming the songs to yourself for weeks to come.

Pretty excellent for a debut indie record.......2002-10-20

I gotta say, for a first album that's essentially a solo album (as Dan Block played almost every instrument and co-produced himself) this is a pretty good cd. It certainly has its flaws in some places, but overall, it's a good buy. Plus it's 79 minutes long, so you get quite a bit of music for your money. Definitely worth it.

If you want a taste of what happens when a happening New York audience and a sophisitcated singer/performer teamed with one of the best jazz pianists and arrangers in the country get together, buy this CD because it is all there. Jim Caruso encompasses everything that New York is about from the best arrangements to the best patter you will EVER hear or want to hear on a CD. It is truly one of the best "live" albums I have had the pleasure to listen to because you absolutely feel like you are in the room. Total enjoyment from start to finish. If you have a hankerin' for Mercer and good taste you can't miss with "Caruso - Live and In Person!

This Caruso can't really sing.......2002-03-07

OK, he's no Enrico Caruso, or anywhere close. I realize this CD is a recording of his live show, so maybe you had to be there to really enjoy it. Just listening to the CD, I found him annoying, tiresome and trying too hard to be ''hip.'' For a musical-comedy CD, Caruso's not very musical or very comical.

Listening to Jim Caruso's great CD is the closest thing to being "there" in person ("there" meaning one of the best single things about New York nightlife as it is meant to be experienced). Best of all, Caruso proves that wit is not dead and buried. His patter, jokes, and deliciously self-deprecating irony far and away distinguish him from the typical club performer 'paint-by-number' formats.

Buy it for the classy tunes, gorgeous arrangements, hilarious stories, and the knock-out Mercer medley! Mix a martini, light a candle, press "play" and prepare to enter nightclub heaven. I'll meet you there!

Jim Caruso's silky smooth voice can reach inside a person and gently touch his (or her) heart, or aim straight for the funnybone and have him in stitches! Having had the opportunity to see this excellent performer in person, I'm thrilled to be able to recall his musical magic whenever I so choose. Great CD for kickin' back on a Sunday afternoon or entertaining guests -- why hire someone to entertain when you can have Caruso do it for you for just over (dollar amount).A perfect gift for the music lovers on my holiday shopping list...with Jim Caruso's Live and in Person, who needs fruitcake?
