Customer Reviews:
Worked great for a couple of months.......2007-07-02
I really liked the earbuds. Thye where very comfortable and I used them during my excercise routine almost daily. My problem is that after 3 months, one of the earbuds stopped working.
GREAT SOUND.......2007-06-28
Great sound, especially if you really push them far into the ear. Comfortable, but they do have a tendency to slowly make their way out if you move around or run a lot. For the price, they're definitely worth a try.
Pretty Good Quality.......2007-06-28
These buds are very comfortable. Some reviewers have found them to slide out of their ears too easily, but I've had no problem so far. I am satisfied with my twenty dollars worth -- I've had several pairs of other earbuds in the past, including the original ipod, and these are comparable. When I first put them on though I found them to be a little monotone or flat sounding, but I've set my equalizer to "rock" and that seems to balance them out pretty well. The insulation on the earbud itself insulates your ear a bit from the noise, but don't expect any miracles. It's like wearing a not-very-good ear plug. But one with pretty good sound.
won't stay in my ear.......2007-06-27
I suppose everyone's ears are different but these won't stay in my ear. The slightest tug and out they come. Almost useless. Too bad because they were comfortable and the sound quality seemed pretty good. But if they fall out, What's the point?
Very Comfortable Ear Buds.......2007-06-27
I wear these with my iPod when I walk, or on the airplane. Very comfy, and the sound's good enough to suit me.

Customer Reviews:
HD DVD - Wow!.......2007-07-04
The Toshiba player is easy to use and looks sleek. (I'm sure that my husband could give you an explanation of all of the specs and why they're wonderful. I just need to know how to watch DVDs and want the player to look nice.) Of course, it goes without saying that all of the DVDs we have watched using it have been incredible. I highly recommend that everyone goes high-def!
A must buy!.......2007-06-29
Everyone is choosing sides in the format war, but not me, I have both a Blu-ray player and this HD DVD player. They are both great, but if I had to choose one, it would certainly be the HD DVD format and here's why:
The HD DVD standard requires players to have a network connection and 2 video processors. On Blu-ray, these are optional. This means that HD DVD is going to get fantastic picture-in-picture extras and downloadable content with certain movies. Warner Brothers just announced that their new movie `300' will have exclusive features on HD DVD that they just couldn't do on the Blu-ray release, including: an interactive game, the ability to mix scenes and share with friends over the web, picture in picture commentary and more.
More about this player: It was easy to setup, the manual was fantastic and very descriptive. It actually fits perfectly on my Comcast cable box (they are the same size) and it has feet so the heat can escape. The sound and picture quality are amazing (you knew that already). It's a little slow to boot up (like all next-gen movie machines) but once the movie starts, who cares if it took 10 extra seconds to load? I've done 2 firmware updates using the Ethernet port, they worked perfectly (took about 20 minutes, be patient!).
Again, as someone who owns both, my preference is HD DVD. I could not be happier with this purchase and will soon be purchasing another unit for a different room in the house. Heck, at this price, even if I only used it to up-convert my standard DVDs it would be worth it!
Outstanding!!! And I mean Outstanding!.......2007-06-28
I have been watching both the Blu ray and the HD Dvd and refused to believe that I needed a $1000 player to get a good picture...and I was right. This dvd player is excellent...provided you get the right movie...may i suggest Serenity or Happy Feet at this time. The picture quality is as most critics have stated...amazing! I have a 2003 Hitachi 51 inch which has a DVI connection....if you have a DVI connection, amazon sells the HDMI to DVI cable...its better then the component hook up. Last, the price of $250 plus the five free dvds make the actual cost roughly, $150. One con..HD DVD movies run anywhere from 19.99 to $34.95.
great for HOME HD-DVDs.......2007-06-27
I bought this machine for my dad so I can make home HD-DVD movies from my Canon HV20 using ordinary DVD4 and DVD9s to send to him. Works great and cheap! Don't expect it to be nearly as easy (if at all possible) with Blue-ray.
No issues with this DVD player.......2007-06-27
The DVD player was delivered very quickly. It was easy to install (HDMI to TV and optical audio to receiver) and configure. I was watching a DVD soon afterwards, even without a firmware update. I have only played a couple of HD-DVDs but they were completely awesome to see. I hear all the bickering about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray and 1080p vs 1080i. Enough with the analysis paralysis. Stop whining and start watching!!! It's quite amazing to watch HD programming whether from DVD or broadcast. I'm glad to have purchased this 1080i player. I have a new Panasonic 58" 1080p (700U) plasma TV and I'm very satisfied with the way HD-DVD and SD-DVDs look on this combo.
Some day I will consider a 1080p DVD player, *IF* I can see a difference, and *IF* it plays multiple formats and *IF* the prices come down.
One thing missing from this player is the ability to play MP3 CDs. Hopefully this will come with a future firmware update.

Amazon.com Product Description
Easily mobile at just 6 pounds, the Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 makes it easy to get your work done with a large, bright 15.4-inch widescreen LCD. The XGA-resolution screen (1280 x 800) permits side-by-side viewing of documents for increased productivity. It's also great for using as a media center, with Toshiba's unique Express Media Player enabling you to bypass the system and access CDs and DVDs with a touch of button. This affordable notebook PC is powered by Intel's 1.73 GHz Core Duo T2080 processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance and efficient power consumption. It also offers a 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), dual-layer/multi-format DVD drive that also burns CDs, integrated 54g wireless connectivity, and Intel GMA 950 video card with up to 256 MB of shared video RAM.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: The Intel Core Duo T2080 processor is built with the Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset, and it has a 1.73 GHz processor speed, fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3-D and 2-D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.
- Hard Drive: The 120 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM) is just above average in size for business notebook PCs. It provides more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a good start for power users, and it offers a decently fast 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add up to 2 GB of RAM for worry-free handling graphics-intensive presentations and multiple open business productivity applications. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x DVD+R DL, 4x DVD-R DL, 8x for both single-layer DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 85-key keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. It also offers a launch button for the Express CD/DVD media player and control buttons (play, stop, next, previous) as well as a volume control dial.
Screen, Video & Audio
This notebook has a 15.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (native 720p for high-definition viewing). It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 256 MB of shared video memory. It also features an integrated audio card with headphone and microphone jacks.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This Toshiba Satellite has an integrated Atheros 802.11b/g wireless-LAN that enables you to easily connect at wireless hotspots wherever you roam. You get a good offering of connectivity options:
- 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 S-Video out
- 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type II, PCMCIA R2.01, PC Card16, CardBus)
- 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack
- 5-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with Secure Digital (including SDIO), MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card memory cards
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.92) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Operating System
Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi.
Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. And, all Windows Vista editions include parental control features that allow you to manage and monitor your family's use of games, the Internet, instant messaging, and other activities.

****YOU MUST BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY*******.......2007-06-29
I bought a Satellite A135-S4527 1 year ago and my warranty just expired. I am very gentle with my laptop and the monitor went out. Toshiba tech support will not talk to you unless you give them a credit card and I have found that to replace the monitor (part alone) is $400 +. This is more than half the price of a new laptop. It doesnt make sense. So if you buy Toshiba get that extended warranty. Remember, when they sell something cheap its for a reason. Good luck
Great laptop.......2007-06-27
I purchased the Toshiba satellite laptop to replace a failing home computer. I wanted a laptop mostly for the portability. I researched various brands through web reviews and Consumer Reports and this particular laptop was rated very high in both consumer satisfaction and reliability. I had to purchase an Ethernet cable to connect the laptop to my modem, but once I made the connection, I was able to access the interrnet right away. I hadn't heard great things about MS Vista, which came preinstalled on the laptop, but I haven't experienced any issues with it (knock on wood). I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Toshiba satellite laptop - they've won me over!
Light - Full of Features - Big Drive - COOL Radar Wi Fi.......2007-06-26
I purchased this laptop at a store at the last minute. One thing that was important to me is the surface at which your hands rest to type. I had this one laptop that got so hot it would turn my hands and wrist red to use it. I tested every laptop in the place that had been running all night, like hp, gateway and sony. Others, even some in the $1800 and up price were VERY hot running the dual core processors. I can also set it right on my lap in the car traveling and it doesn't get hot or weigh to much. The keys have a nice typing touch, screen is excellent although I don't like the glare from a shiny plastic face on the monitor that disturbed others during a meeting.
My little cell phone has wi-fi and that was another thing this had with a radar sensor that will look for a signal. I had this beauty at a convetion for taking notes and people were watching this thing like a submarine depth sounder. The battery lasted about 3 hours with constant typing and everything geared down.
Vista has some cool features to it like drop shadow around the windows but it sure takes some getting used to. It plays great dvd's that we used for a tv when traveling. I notice the fan as one person was talking about but it's was very small occasional noise that is hardly noticable at all even when I was falling asleep with one hand eye on this beauty and one eye closed.
I compared this next to the Sony viao, and couldn't get my self to spend $2,000 for the smallest lightest unit. Some of the Sony units had a much hotter face plate. This is a great laptop, much better than the one that finally froze up on me and pushed me to purchase it.
I highly recommend the product, not just for the price but for a quality well thougt out machine.
Good specs, but fan is noisy.......2007-06-06
I bought this laptop a few weeks ago for [...],which was a good value. It works fine, but my two complaints are the fan noisy and the ram (2x512 sticks rather than 1GB stick, makes expansion wasteful/more costly). I'm not so concerned with the ram, since I don't require any high end processing, but with the fan, even though I use it mostly for browsing the web and watching videos online, the fan seems to turn on and off frequently (on 10-30 seconds, off for about a minute), after using it for a period of time (30 minutes to an hour). It's very noticeable and distracting. Is it supposed to be like that? Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions regarding making the fan quieter, or turn on and off less frequently would be appreciated, if you can leave a comment. Thanks!
Memory issues.......2007-06-01
I picked up one of these guys in a brick-and-mortar store, but ended up returning it within a few hours. The problem: the laptop comes with 1GB memory (2GB max), and the 1GB consists of 2 512MB DIMM's. So if you want to max it out (and you do, if you want to run Vista), that means you'll need to buy two 1GB DIMMs and throw away the two 512MB DIMMs that came with the system. That's too lame for words, so back to the store it went.

Don't Buy till Amazon drops the price........2007-07-03
Toshiba has set new MSRPs for both the HD-A2 and the HD-20 decreasing both by $100.00, making them $299.99 and $399.99 respectively. If Amazon keeps their discounts anywhere from 20-30% off the MSRP, then waiting will definitely be worth it.
Looked but decided not to buy with the Blockbuster decision.......2007-07-01
I was looking at two of these Toshiba models, thinking about buying one of them, until the Blockbuster decision came out. Now I'm thankful I didn't purchase one.
It seems that BD has clearly won the format war, and with good reason:
1) Seven of eight major studios supporting it.
2) 180 of the worlds top hardware manufacturers supporting it.
3) Sales of players 5 to 1 outselling HD-DVD.
4) Sales of movies 3 to 1 outselling HD-DVD.
5) 24p frame rate already included in BD.
6) Major computer companies (Dell, HP, Apple, etc..) supporting it.
7) Starz home entertainment supporting it exclusively.
8) Most new titles coming out on it.
9) Most retailers offering more titles on it.
10) More disk space (50gb vs 30gb).
11) Ability to play MP3's on the players.
The list could go on and on... I will agree there are a few minor things that HD-DVD does that BD doesn't, yet, but in the end BD is the choice of most next generation movie buffs; Including myself.
A little pricy but worth it.......2007-06-28
Knowing that better machines will sell for a quarter as much in two years, I still do not regret getting this player. The real letdown is the Blockbuster decision, two days after my purchase, to stock only BlueRay in most of its stores. I am a Blockbuster online member and will not be affected immediately, but the danger of the HD-DVD format going obsolete has certainly gone up now.
This player itself does the job, however, displaying gorgerous 1080p images on a matching monitor. The only gripe here is the long boot time. It can be a little annoying that, everytime I want to play a movie for my kid, I have to endure a minute of "Are we ready yet? Are we ready yet? ..."
I am blown away!! The best purchase in years.......2007-06-24
Woah! This DVD rocks man. I am very particular when it comes to picture and sound quality and let me tell you this, this DVD player totally rocks. I have been using this for a month now. Very easy to use. I set up in 5 minutes.. literally. Only thing that took a long time was when i was upgrading its firmware. But i only had to do that once.. for the first time. My friend has blu-ray player and last weekend he brought his player to my place to compare picture quality on philips aquos 50' TV. This dvd player gave noticebly better results.
GOOD: 1) Great Picture quality 2) Awesome sound quality 3) Easy to use 4) Connect to internet for driver update and special features/trailers (on some discs). BAD: 1) Bil slow to load up 2) Resume after stop goes to start but you can always bookmark before you stop.
Nice picture and sound, 2nd generation machine.......2007-06-20
I just purchased this machine to go along with my Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray player, rather than wait for the dual-format machines that are coming soon. I thought it would be interesting to compare the two formats (the Toshiba, though, is considerably cheaper, more about this later). I'm using 1080i mode on both players.
On the plus side : The Toshiba feels like a 2nd generation machine to use. It boots more quickly, navigates more smoothly, and generally responds to key inputs more quickly. The picture is very good, as is the sound. Its well built, and if this was my only player I'd be very happy with it.
Minus : The Sony simply has a better picture (sorry HD-DVD fans, this is the case) - even menus look sharper - it looks to me like, to get the cost of the Toshiba down, they had to cut some corners in the electronics in the video processing and output stages. The HDMI output looks bandwidth limited to me, with edge effects and blurring even in the menus. Switching to the Sony is a breath of fresh air, with better sharpness, a much more analog look to the picture without edge effects, better contrast, and better colours. I'm sure this is not fundamental to HD-DVD or Blu-ray, just a difference between the expensive Sony and the cheaper Toshiba.

Product Description
Although many DVD discs on the market offer widescreen display, they are not necessarily high-definition. If you want to get optimal video results from DVD on your HDTV set, HD-DVD is the format that's set to deliver resolutions up to 1080p for top visuals. High Definition video requires a tremendous amount of space on a disc, thus a new Blue laser (versus a Red Laser for DVD) is utilized for HD DVD. The blue laser, with its shorter wave length, allows for information to be stored more densely on the disc, thus improving storage capacity by about over 3 times compared to that of a red laser technology. Additionally, more accurate and efficient video compression like MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1. (based on Microsoft Windows Media) compress information to achieve file sizes that are less than half of those of the current standard DVD's MPEG2. Enjoy backwards compatibility and play your collection of standard DVDs on the player. In addition, via the HDMI interface, the HD-XA2 scales the standard definition DVD output to a resolution of 720p, 1080i or 1080p to match your HDTV's performance. Not only does this output the video in HD standard resolution, but because the conversion takes place in the player, the signal remains free from excessive digital-to-analog conversion artifacts. The HD-XA2 has built-in processors to handle the multi-channel decoders for Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS and DTS HD (core only). Move up to High Definition play with HD-DVD and upgrade your home for true home-theater enjoyment. Includes backlit remote control Unit Dimensions 17.2? x 13.58? x 2.91? - Home-theater component stackable Many movies are now available in HD-DVD format
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding piece of equipment!.......2007-06-27
I have held off on writing a review until having had the XA2 for a few months, to give it a fair trial. During this time, I have applied 2 firmware upgrades and played countless discs including HD DVDs, SD DVDs, and CDs. Overall, I have to rate this product as outstanding. The delivered picture quality is far better than any other source device I have yet to see with HD DVD, and is the best of any DVD player I have yet used or demo'd. If you have a screen larger than 50" or so, you really need to use high-def media to get the most out of your investment, and the XA2 delivers with stunning clarity and color depth. The sound quality delivered by this player is equally top-notch, particularly when playing HD DVDs encoded with TrueHD.
I have observed some oddities that don't affect normal operation watching DVDs, but aren't quite right. 1) Occasionally, about 20 seconds after the initial start-up sequence has completed, the picture will briefly blank and return. I assume this is due to an HDMI handshaking delay. 2) The use of bass management with the analog outputs requires firmware 1.6 or later, and requires that the SPDIF output be set to 'PCM'. 3) Occasionally, the unit will decide that it can't read audio CDs; powering down and back up solves the problem. Each of these quirks really shouldn't be in a product at this level, but do not impact the core functionality in a way that lessens the impact of the incredible quality of the sound and video of HD DVDs.
For reference perspective, I am using the analog 5.1 outputs for audio and the HDMI connection for video; display is a JVC RS-1 projector (1080p) onto a 100" screen.
a must buy.......2007-06-27
This is a great player. Top of the line HD DVD Player and The best upconverting player on the market. Upgraded from an HD A1 and haven't regretted it yet!
The best upconverting dvd player........2007-06-26
I bought this unit specifically for its dvd upconversion performance. It is fantastic. Every time I watch a (regular DVD) disk I am blown away by the picture quality. I tried about 5 other dvd players before this including all 3 Oppos and the Toshiba A2. The PQ difference is so much better with this XA2 that I don't have to look closely or even use test disks to see it. The image is vibrant, clear and without artifacts. Even diagonal processing is great. I have little need for the HDDVD capabilities when regular DVD looks this good! imho, the HDDVD is just a bonus. My display is a 50 inch panasonic plasma 50PH9UK. I use the hdmi out at 1080i.
Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD Player.......2007-06-18
Easy setup. Excellant picture and sound quality. Online firmware upgrade was a breeze. Boot time isn't too bad. I also have Pioneer Elite Blue Ray with current firmware updates too and both take about the same amount of time to boot. I have to say that I like them both a lot. So far have had no problems or issues.
Good HD-DVD player, but I have to question if it's worth the extra cost.......2007-06-14
Is this really that much better than 1080i? In my opinion no.

Customer Reviews:
If you have an HDTV, you need an Up-Converting DVD player........2007-06-11
I definitely notice a big difference in quality from my old normal DVD player and this up-converting one. My 57" DLP HDTV showed how bad my old DVD player displayed an image. It was very pixelated. But this looks very nice coming through in 1080p. Since the image is up-converted it is not quite as good as the 1080i HD channels, but still looks much better than the old DVD. I have only recorded to a DVD once and it worked perfectly. I guess I thought I'd be recording more often. I love that it plays DivX files and I use that frequently. Complaints: I don't really care for the remote. It feels a bit awkward and too squarish. But that's not a big deal. The best input is S-Video, so when you record something that was on an HD channel it will not be as good of quality as the original. I don't know if this is the case on all DVD Recorders or not. And when you first put in a disc it spends about 30 seconds loading it befor it plays it. I guess this is because of the up-converting, I'm not sure. That's not a big deal, though, I guess.
Toshiba D-R400 w/up-covert $139.00!!!.......2007-05-10
I looked around for about two weeks before I decided to buy this unit. I wanted to go with a Panasonic because I have always had good luck with the brand, but, after reading all of the reviews on Panasonics in this price range I decided to look at other brands. And I mean I looked at EVERYTHING. It seems that Panasonics have lots of problems reading DVDs burned by other machines. Every brand I looked at had some kind of problem except for this Toshiba. This is a very nice product...
I am impressed with the features/performance of this recorder for $140.00!!! For this small amount of money you get a DVD recorder that up-converts to 1080p. It's a steal! I have played many different DVDs burned by at least five different machines as well as computer DVD burners, and I have not had a single problem. In fact, I can now watch several DVDs that I couldn't watch on my old DVD player!
(Keep in mind that this is my first DVD recorder)
Something that surprised me in a good way... When writing to a DVD +R/+RW and -R/-RW if you select "Auto Finalize" this makes the DVD viewable on other machines. On a computer when you "finalize" or "close" the disc (DVD) you cannot write to it again. This is not the case with this recorder. With this Toshiba when you finalize after your recording you can still go back and record something else until the DVD is full. What this means is you don't waste a 'full' DVD on a 1/2 hour show. This is a GREAT feature. Another thing is that when you load the menu to select your recording, each recording (thumbnail) is showed on the screen. If you click on any of them you get a full video preview of what's recorded. Why is this cool? Let's say you record seven different shows but you can't remember what order you recorded them in, and, you want to watch a particular show. How are you going to find it? The menu lets you look at every recording so you can choose the one you want.
Things I like:
- Highly compatible with DVDs burned by other machines
I have not found a DVD I can't watch yet
- Very easy one touch recording
Hit the button and it does the rest
- Very easy menu creating (auto if you like) and editing
Let's you create and edit your own menus or let it do it for you
- Commercial skip 30, 60, 90, 120 seconds
Very nice for when you record TV shows, just hit the button and say good-bye to the commercials
- Pause live TV, Chasing Playback DVD -RW (go back to the beginning of the show you are watching while it's still recording)
Pretty cool feature for when you get a phone call and don't want to miss anything (just like a DVR)
- Auto finalize feature
Select this and it will finalize (close the disc) after everything you record
- Use the same DVD 1000 times DVD -RW, just format it and record away
You will NEVER use a VCR again
There is nothing I don't like... >;-)
Honestly, for the money, you could easily spend $140.00 for a DVD "player" with up-convert. With this unit you also get a DVD "recorder".
Good Value for money.......2007-04-17
I was looking for months for a product that is under $200 range, can upconvert to 1080p and record on DVDs. Toshiba D-R400 is the solution.
The product works great out of the box. I can definitely see the good upconversion quality but to be honest, I cannot tell much difference between 720p, 1080i and 1080p. All of them look almost the same on my 1080p LCD TV.
For those of you who do not know, please remember that you cannot expect the black bars above and below of the widescreen DVD movie to get removed using this upconverter. I was under the impression that an upconverter lets view the picture full screen but that is not true. Only Blue Ray/HD DVD will do that. But hey, still for $140, you get good quality upconversion using D-R400.
I tried recording on one of those cheap GQ DVD RW from Frys and it works fine. The disc preparation is fast enough and does not take forever as my old junk Lite-On DVD recorder used to. This DVD recorder did not complain for a particular branded DVD. The TV program recording was of very good quality.
I have a HD receiver and its HDMI input cannot be given to D-R400. You have to give an S Video or RCA input and record the program and when you are watching the replayed DVD, you see the upconvered quality at 1080p.
One disappointing thing is that there is no HDMI cable in the box. Circuit city and other retail stores sell those monster HDMI cable for $89. What a rip off! But you should be able to find a good HDMI cable under $10 on various sites.
Overall, I would say this is a great value for money!

fatal flaws.......2007-07-02
I bought this player after reading many positive reviews, used it for a week and a half and then returned it (still waiting for my refund).
Pros:
1. Bright screen
2. Good controls
Cons:
1. Skips back to the beginning of a disk when you hit a bump in the road...very annoying!
2. Battery adds extra weight and awkwardly attaches to the bottom of the unit.
3. With the battery attached I would occasionally have trouble powering on the unit. It would take me several minutes of button mashing to get the thing going. Seemed more like an operating system bug more than a problem with my specific unit.
4. Sound was loud enough but had a strange quality to it. This was especially noticeable in intro music where the sound seemed to get softer, then louder for no apparent reason.
5. Possible restocking fee and $18 out-of-pocket to return it. Better off buying locally.
6. Vendor (Amazon partner) has very limited business hours and I waited on hold for a half hour.
Great player very quick delivery!.......2007-06-27
This is a great product. I use it on long flights, and winter camping trips when I'm stuck in a tent. The player arrived in three business days in perfect condition. The one thing I did notice is that the cover door is on the flimsy side. The picture quality is great. I wish we had these when I was a kid. All we got was tossed in the back of the pick up and given books to hurl at each other:)
Highly Recommended Portable DVD PLayer.......2007-06-16
We bought this Toshiba SD-P1900 9" Portable DVD Player for an extended vacation/car trip. It performed flawlessly with a phenomenal battery life of 5+ hours as well as ease of use plugged into the 12V car power outlet. Sound quality is pretty good and picture quality and brightness is top notch. At hotels it was possible to plug the video cables into the in-room TV and watch a movie.
The only thing you need to be aware of concerning this Portable DVD Player is when purchasing a carrying bag for it you need to make sure the bag is sized to fit 10" players. We had to return one bag that was supposed to fit 9" players and didn't fit this one.
I highly recommend this portable DVD Player.
Better the second time.......2007-06-08
Gave this as a gift to my hubby. Imagine our disappointment when we tried to play DVDs and 4 out of 5 gave us a read error. DVD's we tried were fairly new. I called Toshiba was given a repair ticket number and I shipped it back to Toshiba (at my expense.) I had it back a week after Toshiba received it, whick I thought was a pretty quick turn around. Box it came in just indicated that it was 'repaired'. It is now working fine and we are very please with the viewing quality and ease of use. But in the back of my mind, I wonder how long this product will last.
Great Divx player with some issues........2007-05-25
I am generally satisfied with the system and recommend this player. My main interest is in playing .avi files with various encoding methods. If you don't play Divx files, please ignore the following issues.
1. SD-P1900 doesn't seem to play "WAF" encoding format video. You will get "HD not supported" msg when you play this type of files. Avayon DXP 1000 (non-portable DVD player) doesn't play this file either where as Philips DVP642/37 DOES play WAF encoded files beautifully.
2. Some .avi files didn't produce sound. I re-created a DVD using DVD-RW and the sound worked fine.
3. Asian language sub-titles are not viewable as with the above non-portable DVD players. If you find a way to show Chinese, Korean, or Japanese sub-titles, please let us know.
4. There was no case/covering for the player.
Average customer rating:
- Almost perfect
- EXCEPTIONAL PRICE / VALUE
- Great TV, repairs take too long for lack of parts
- JUST RECEIVED AND LOVE IT.

Amazon.com Product Description
Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.
The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.
The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.
Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components:
- HDMI inputs: 3
- ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
- PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
- S-video input: 1
- A/V inputs: 2
Audio
The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.
37-inch wide screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet.

Almost perfect.......2007-06-18
After having done plenty of research, I ended up getting this model at an electronics store for less than it could be had for online. It was manufactured in April, and I bought it in May. It's done everything I'd hoped for and more. Using the digital tuner, it can pick up four of the five local channels in HD without a cable box by doing a cable scan. When I purchased it, I declined the 4(3)-year extended warranty because Consumer Reports said that there are very few repairs needed in the first year or two. There wasn't one mention of dead pixels. My chance to get the extended warranty would expire in 30 days, so when I noticed 2 dead (black) pixels on the 29th day, I went out and got the extra warranty because they (UE) provide better coverage than Toshiba would. The pixels don't bother me that much, but knowing it'll be less of a hassle to get it replaced if any more show up gives me peace of mind, despite it costing a couple hundred extra.
EXCEPTIONAL PRICE / VALUE.......2007-06-04
I purchased this set at H.H.Gregg in 4/07 for $1,080. Now available at slightly lower prices.
Connection to cable was simple. Excellent owners manual to learn setups.
Picture quality excellent on HD signals -- analog is good. Bottom speakers produce exceptional sound. And, the piano black set is extremely attractive.
Drawback? When turned on, the previously viewed channel appears quickly. But, there is a 20-30 second delay until the remote control will change channels or volume.
Very pleased, and highly recommend.
Great TV, repairs take too long for lack of parts.......2007-05-31
I fell in love with this TV, it does have the best picture from any other 32" model. Three HDMI inputs and a PC input give you a lot of flexibility when connecting the unit and the sound is pretty good coming from TV speakers. I like the menus as they are nice looking and relatively easy to follow.
However, one week after I got it, the picture started going black. It seemed that the panel and backlighting stopped working after a while. So I called Toshiba and was instructed to drop it at a local repair shop. Well it has been **4 weeks** since then and the repair shop says that they have not gotten the part from Toshiba.
Great TV lousy policy of not having parts in stock for repairs.
JUST RECEIVED AND LOVE IT........2007-05-15
I just received this TV yesterday and set up was a breeze. Hooked everything up, turned it on and that was it. Beautiful picture. I also purchased an up-converting DVD player. I was a bit skeptical about this but the picture was awesome. It definitely did what it said it would. I am having Direct Tv coming today to install HD dish and receiver. I will let you know more as time goes by. I would also like to add that my experience with the site HIDEF where I purchased this TV was absolutely awesome. The price is very competitive and customer service is outstanding. I highly recommend HIDEF.

The 32HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
The 32HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds.
32-inch wide screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 32-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 32HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of seven to 12 feet.

Impressive!!.......2007-06-30
I ordered the TV on Monday evening, June 25. It arrived at my door on Thursday, June 28. Three days!! How amazing is that! Full marks go to [...] for their service. By the way, I ordered the HDMI cable at the same time, and that was sent by cable4less. It too arrived on the 28th. I had the TV up and running in time to watch the Yankee game Thursday evening. This is why I like using [...].
The TV is great. We own a Toshiba 37" LCD which is in our living room. We've had it about a month, and really are impressed with it. The colors pop, and in HD mode, it is spectacular.
That leads me to this purchase. I wanted one for our bedroom, as I usually get shipped off there in the evenings to watch sports, which my wife doesn't really care for. The 27" Panasonic SDTV wasn't cutting it anymore, so I decided it was time for an HDTV. I figured I would buy a 32" Vizio from Sam's Club for around $[...], and be done with it. After being spoiled by the 37" Toshiba downstairs, I went with this 32" Toshiba instead. I am glad I did. Every control is the same, so there was no learning curve. I am glad I spent the extra $[...]. for the Toshiba, because it is a great TV.
Overall this buying experience was exceptional. If only Jet Blue could run so smoothly!
Happy with purchase.......2007-06-27
Pretty good TV for the price. I looked at Sony and Panasonic. When I bought this TV, it was almost 1/2 the price ($750ish) of the Sony Bravia. I would like to note that the Sony 32 inch I looked at was the lowest in terms of model line.
Its a decent size if you are starting out (which is my case). Picture quality is good and it works very well with the Peerless Articulating wall mount. TV does take a little bit of time to turn on, not sure if that is normal.
GREAT GAMING LCD.......2007-06-27
The design is beautiful. It is very sleek and modern. Very good LCD picture for televison use. I have not tried to see what the picture looks like with the HD hook up but I can amagine that it will look awesome. Playing video games is the primary use for the LCD. The XBOX 360 Elite looks AWESOME with the HDMI hook up. Colors and picture amazing to watch. The great thing about this Toshiba is that it has more than one HDMI input which means you can plug in a dvd player, HD cable or satellite box and for fun a XBOX 360 or PS3 if you have one. Basically whatever you have that has HDMI outputs will look and sound great with this model. It also has all the other input devices like componet, composite, S-Video and digital audio inputs. It very easy to use and setup. The remote control has all the usual buttons to navigate around. By far a great value in the line up of 32" LCD's in the market.
Made the right choice.......2007-06-13
For the price and the features, this TV kept coming out at the top of my list. We've had it for a few weeks now and I have to say I'm very happy. It has 3 HDMI inputs (one is HDCP) as well as a slew of other inputs for S-video, composite and VGA. Audio is fine for when we don't want the home theatre on and the pass-through means we can get audio to the home theatre system no matter where the input came from. The glossy body is very sexy and the screen has a nice matte look when it's not on.
I'm very happy with the TV and if I were to have to come up with something I don't like, I guess it's that the legs stick out quite a bit in the front (for balance) which means you need to push it back a bit further than you might want if it's inside a unit. But that's a small small gripe and if it really bothers me, I can get a VESA mount and change it as it has standard VESA holes in back.
Toshiba TV's - Simply perfect.......2007-06-13
If you are looking for a LCD HD TV but don't know where to start, look to Toshiba first. I read in a leading consumer magazine that Toshiba spends more money (on an average of 5 to 1) on research and development than any of it's other competitors (Example: Sony, Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, etc....) and the REGZA is a result of that research.
After a very detailed 2-3 months worth of research, I decided on the 32HL67. Toshiba electronic products (especially TV's & DVD players) have always performed very well for me. I will be utilizing this TV in my bedroom and it's a good thing that I am. This television is completely amazing and is by far the best value for a very good HDTV for the bedroom. The design is truly a beautiful piece of electronics. It has a sleek curve stand with a piano black frame finish. The picture and the set-up right out of the box was brilliant. I utilize DIRECTV HD and the colors and picture quality is simply brilliant. The HD programming is very sharp with a very clear and very distinctive display.
The native resolution of this unit is 720p, but this HDTV will display all formats 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. However, it only receives 1080p when connected via a HDMI port. This TV comes with 3 HDMI inputs, plus a input port for a computer and two HD color components inputs.
The Toshiba is very easy to setup with its user friendly onscreen menus. All the speakers are located along the bottom of the screen, therefore helping to reduce the total width of the unit. I only had approximately 33" to fit a TV into and this one fit perfectly. The DIRECTV gentlemen installing my HD satellite dish and setting up the HD receiver commented that the fit looked nearly perfect to him. This LCD is very thin and fairly lightweight (approximately 40 pounds). Easily handled by one person. The mount for the Toshiba 32HL67 was very easy to attach to the bottom of the unit, which is how I use mine. I'm sure this TV would be just as easy to use as a wall mount unit by installing the mount onto the rear of this unit.
Very impressed

Amazon.com Product Description
Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 15DLV77 has both a DVD player and a 15-inch screen, you won't have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.
The 15DLV77 is little more than three inches deep and weighs just over 13 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.
The unit has a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, which puts it in the higher end of standard definition sets. Its traditional 4:3 aspect ratio makes it ideal for watching most DVD content. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images.
Full-Featured DVD Player
The 15DLV77 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Want to view photos? Simply move your JPEG photos onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc and the 15DLV77 will provide you access to a slide show of your images with a few clicks on the player's remote control. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.
An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.
Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It also makes these connections:
- ColorStream component video inputs: 1
- S-video: 1
- RCA video inputs: 1 rear and 1 side
- L-R audio inputs: 1 front and 1 side
- Digital audio output for DVD: 1 coaxial
- RF: 1
- Headphone jack: 1
Audio
The 15DLV77's bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 15DLV77 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio through a coaxial port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you--perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba's Surround Sound feature uses advanced audio processing to mimic the all-encompasing sound of satellite speakers. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

Great TV!.......2007-07-01
We bought this TV for our kitchen. We don't have cable so we also bought an antenna to go in the window to get the local channels in HD. This TV takes up very little counter space and has a beautiful picture. It is perfect!
Toshiba Small Screen.......2007-06-11
received product in good condition. TV worked fine and had a beautiful picture for being a small screen tv.
A great kitchen TV, with great expandability ...........2007-05-31
I've been looking for this type of TV to replace a Sony 9" CRT we've been using in the kitchen for many years. My wife wanted more counter space. This fills the bill quite well. Many sets this size have speakers on the side, which take up horizontal space. We prefer the layout on this set. It arrived in a box that showed what was inside, so if this is to be a surprise for someone, they'll know what it is the minute it arrives.
Set up was very easy, with one exception. You can program 12 of your favorite channels, but this can only be done one channel at a time. And, it puts them in the order that you input them, rather than sequentially. This took a while to do.
A nice surprise was the fact that the auto-setup detected several 'digital' channels that were present on our analog cable. We even get a few 'HD' channels broadcast in 720p which look amazing on this set! Out digital music channels were also detected.... I thought that we could only get these with a cable box, but apparently not. So, we are very please with this set. The sound is OK for the kitchen, but I would hook it up to an amp/speakers if used in a bedroom or den.
The remote control is well-designed, and overall, the set seems to be very well constructed. The stand allows a moderate tilt adjustment to the screen, but the set does not swivel on the stand. The stand can be removed however for installation on an extendible arm, or hung on a wall.
For the money, this is a nice set!
Toshiba TV.......2007-05-17
Nice TV/DVD combination. I like the fact that the dvd goes in on the side.
Great Multi-Functional TV.......2007-04-06
We ordered this TV and it was here in 2 days!! Great sound and picture.
The TV is for my son's nursery and fits perfectly in the small space that it was intended for.
My favorite thing about this TV is that it also plays CD's and you can set it to repeat over and over! I am sure my son will love this TV when he gets old enough to appreciate it. I know I already do!
