Customer Reviews:
good episode!.......2007-06-02
This was another winner from the veggietales video collection! My family loves this video and since it is set to go along with lord of the rings as well, my husband gets really into it. I deffinately would recommend this one!
Veggie Tales - Lord of the Beans.......2007-05-12
Fantastic - what a great portrayal of the book - Lord of the Rings - definitely worth a purchase for Veggie Tales Fans like us!
As always, Veggie Tales are wonderful.......2007-03-09
This is a wonderful story for kids and adults alike. Veggie Tales movies are always so meaningful and they teach important lessons in ways that are entertaining without being 'preachy'. Great job!
An absolutely hysterical, fall on the floor holding your sides . . ........2007-02-09
. . .laugh until it hurts addition to the VeggieTales collection.
As anyone who reads my reviews can tell, I am a "Lord of the Rings" aficionado in the worst way! I am also a huge fan of VeggieTales.
Combine the two and what do you get? The hysterically funny "Lord of the Beans".
Not only is the novel spoofed -- but so are the movies. Children who have not seen the movies will miss some of the humor -- but adults familiar with either version of the story will find much at which to laugh. In the midst of the hilarity, however, the important message about using the gifts one has been given is driven home in a way kids will easily understand.
And the characterizations?
Pa Grape as Grumpy, the Dwarf! (Did I mention it was meatloaf night)?
The Other Elf! (Who bakes cookies in a tree)?
Spiegel! (The flobbit who buys everything mail order)?
And the Elders of the Raspberry Forest?
Loads of fun -- just LOADS -- with an important message.
This VeggieTale is one which SHOULD NOT BE MISSED!!!
A Down Under Perspective.......2007-01-16
For whatever reason, Lord of the Beans (alone of all VeggieTales products)is not available in Australia. However, as both a VeggieTales fan (we have every DVD) and a Middle Earth fan (I've read the Silmarillion, twice) I can heartily recommend going to the effort of getting Lord of the Beans from Amazon. Lord of the Beans follows the usual Big Idea pattern "Saturday morning's fun with Sunday morning's message". It is both an entertaining spoof of the Lord of the Rings movies, with a theme reasonably close to Tolkien; using great power for selfish ends is ultimately destructive (in this case it induces sugar comas :-) while laying it down for others is rewarding. The music ranges from powerful themes evocative of Howard Shore's, through to zany 'Elvish Presley' numbers. And I still haven't been able to explain to my kids which Tolkien character the parasolled unicyclist is modelled on ...
