Youngsters expecting special effects like those found in The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone may miss the subtler charms of these sweet but rather homespun productions, with humans dressed as woodland creatures and patched-in animation. And kids expecting fast-paced action adventures may snooze after a few hours of these relatively slow-moving scripts. But those who want a refresher course in all things Narnia will be thrilled to see these well-loved fantasies come to life in gorgeous snowy landscapes--the good lion Aslan (played by a large, talking stuffed animal), the horrible White Witch (performed with deliciously over-the-top zeal by actress Barbara Kellerman), the four siblings, fauns, dwarves, deadly sea monsters, and all. --Karin Snelson

A Wonderful making of Narnia stories.......2007-03-26
This is a wonderful making of the CS Lewis stories. The only complaint I have is that they did not make all the books. It is very magical and very much follows the books. I like it now as much as I did years ago when I first watched it on PBS. However it is not for everyone. It is low on special effects and more like an old Dr Who. Of course if you like Dr Who then you will love Tom Baker in the Silver Chair. On the other hand, if you want a fast paced high special effect film, then get the Hollywood version. Also if you are offended by Christian symbolism, then neither this nor the Hollywood version is for you.
Awesome!.......2007-03-06
This movie is great. My son loves the stories, but the newer movie is a little too intense for him. The acting is a bit cheesy, but it is true to the books and is great for very young viewers. If you love the books, you can appreciate these movies.
The Chronicles of Narnia (3-Disc Set) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe/Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.......2007-01-10
This Dvd set is awsome (smile) it follow the book and what I could not picture in my mind the dvd made clear for me to understand. Once again my children isn't happy with this dvd...(smile) I brought it for me and I love looking at the character coming to life on screen. Ripacheek is my favorite character and I do recommend this Dvd for family fun and relaxation.
Well it sure as hell didn't age well.......2006-12-09
Well if you saw the first movie you saw the original so I'll give it a star for being a good adaptation. I couldn't sit five minutes without fast forwarding. The child actor in this movie was to fat for the part and at the same time the only decent actor in the movie. The animation was really unimaginative (raptor/chicken anyone or how bout clichéd ghosts) and I'm betting the next two Narnia movies (if they come out) will be just as closely adapted to the screen. And it annoys me that the first book is still completely ignored.
Anyways unless you've seen this in your childhood stay away unless your like me and get a good laugh out of bad effects and spliced in animation. I don't care what year it was made, it's dry, dull, and the actors are wood. So unless you have allot of nostalgia for something like this I'd stay away, thank god for computer animation and save your money to buy a ticket to "Pan's Labyrinth" when it comes out because I doubt a dark R rated fantasy will get the atention it deserves and will make me ill.
Why it's better than the new movie.......2006-11-26
Yes, the visual effects are primitive, but the production is so thoughtful and earnest that it hardly matters. I mean the BBC in the late '80's didn't have the technology for good visual effects. What did you expect?
Also, what's not to like about the casting? The only character I can think of who was arguably better cast in the new movie was Lucy, but BOTH Lucys were extraordinary child actresses. There are people saying Lucy doesn't look the part in this adaptation... true, she's not movie-star cute, but does she have to be? I think she looks a little too grown up, but she acts the part so well you almost don't notice. The other children are superbly cast. They chose a perfect Susan, better cast than the Susan in the new version (although she wasn't bad). Peter is also a lot better in this... I don't think the 2005 filmmakers got a handle on his quite uniquely British character.
But enough of defending this TV adaptation. The makers of the new movie should be the ones on the defensive. There are aspects of this series that the new movie can't even come near. The acting is brilliant and nuanced; all the more impressive coming from children. The White Witch may have over-acted a bit in this TV version, but Tilda Swinton has such a pared-down part in the new movie, it's hard to argue with any certainty that her understated performance was any better. The pacing is perfect in the BBC version. You don't see any of the maudlin crap that Disney puts into the new version, like the ten-minute scene of the kids boarding the train in London and crying as they leave their mummy. It's faithful to the books, not omitting or (what's more annoying) ADDING anything in the plot. At over two hours, the Disney movie could have included most of the book's dialog and dispensed with the overdone, overlong CGI battle scenes, and with adding its own minor characters (ex: the fox).
The music in this adaptation is also SUPERB. It's some of the best theme music I've ever heard for a small- or big-screen production.
You can say the battle scenes were more believeable in the new one, and that the witch's CGI army beats the embarrassing cut-and-paste animations, and costumed actor animals seen in the BBC adaptation. But NOWHERE does the movie create the level of suspense you see in Peter's fight with the wolf in the BBC adaptation. Yes, the wolf was obviously an actor in a costume. But seeing him toss Peter around, and with Peter looking like he was really getting hurt and genuinely scared, it was an incredibly frightening and well-directed scene.
Also, I have nothing bad to say about Liam Neeson, but I couldn't bring myself to believe an Aslan with an American accent in the new version. Neeson has been in the U.S. a long time, and he does an American accent better than an Englih one. I guess the filmmakers thought it would be too ridiculous to have an Irish-sounding Aslan, so they directed him to sound American, and frankly, it doesnt' work. Ronald Pickup's voice makes much more sense for this part.
I suppose if you didn't know what to expect, the shoddy special effects in this version might ruin it for you. But if you appreciate the ways this adaptation beats the movie, you'll be able to see past the visual effects, and you'll be glad you took the time. Makes me wish the BBC directors had just had the same CGI technology to use when they made this... with better visuals, it would be perfect.

With a reported budget of $172 million, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines starts in high gear and never slows down. The apocalyptic "Judgment Day" of T2 was never prevented, only postponed: John Connor (Nick Stahl, replacing T2's Edward Furlong), now 22 and disconnected from society, is being pursued yet again, this time by the advanced T-X, a sleek "Terminatrix" (coldly expressionless Kristanna Loken) programmed to stop Connor from becoming the savior of humankind. Originally programmed as an assassin, a disadvantaged T-101 cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger, bidding fond farewell to his signature role) arrives from the future to join Connor and his old acquaintance Kate (Claire Danes) in thwarting the T-X's relentless pursuit. The plot presents a logical fulfillment of T2 prophesy, disposing of Connor's mother (Linda Hamilton is sorely missed) while computer-driven machines assume control, launching a nuclear nightmare that Connor must survive. With Breakdown and U-571 serving as worthy rehearsals for this cautionary epic of mass destruction, director Jonathan Mostow wisely avoids any stylistic connection to James Cameron's Terminator classics; instead he's crafted a fun, exciting popcorn thriller, humorous and yet still effectively nihilistic, and comparable to Jurassic Park III in returning the Terminator franchise to its potent B-movie roots. --Jeff Shannon
Description
A decade has passed since John Connor (NICK STAHL) helped prevent Judgment Day and save mankind from mass destruction. Now 25, Connor lives "off the grid" - no home, no credit cards, no cell phone and no job. No record of his existence. No way he can be traced by Skynet - the highly developed network of machines that once tried to kill him and wage war on humanity. Until, out of the shadows of the future steps the T-X (KRISTANNA LOKEN), Skynet's most sophisticated cyborg killing machine yet. Sent back through time to complete the job left unfinished by her predecessor, the T-1000, this machine is as relentless as her human guise is beautiful. Now Connor's only hope for survival is the Terminator (ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER), his mysterious former assassin. Together, they must triumph over the technologically superior T-X and forestall the looming threat of Judgment Day - or face the apocalypse and the fall of civilization as we know it.

Second DVD reveals the real "stars" of the film.......2007-06-17
Though the casting is perfect (Arnold again in his trademark role, Kristanna Loken as the sexy and equally as destructive "female" cyborg, and Nick Stahl appropriately looking like the spawn of Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn) and the direction and pacing is tight and relentless, the DVD provides insight into the technical artists that are responsible for the fantastic effects of the movie, along with the preceding films in the franchise.
The second DVD in the compilation profiles Stan Winston, visual effects director, and his talented staff as they explain the many "tricks" of the trade in the making of this movie.

Good movie, looks amazing in HD.......2007-06-14

Tame third instalment.......2007-05-08
Passable only extension to the terminator franchise, this serves only to set the stage for more potential films. As a stand alone product it's pretty futile, Sarah has died, John is still living on the fringes whining a lot, a new improved terminator wants him dead and Arnold wants to keep him alive. Much of this repeats stuff you've already seen in T1 & T2, but tamer as they clearly want to keep the rating as low as possible. Scenes that went over well in the first two get recycled almost unchanged in three, it's depressingly derivative.
Linda Hamilton wisely bailed, Arnold needs so much make up to combat the ravages of time he looks rubberised, the new caste members aren't really good enough to take up the load and the jokes are so laboured they creak. It's entertaining enough, but you really wonder why they bothered.
Good Quality - Not the Best of the Trilogy.......2007-05-07
The HD DVD comes with excellent picture quality. The sound is amazing.
But Terminator 1 was definately the best one of the trilogy.
Anyway if you like it, this HD-DVD is a must in the home collection.
T1 and T2 in a blender.......2007-04-20
As with the years that passed between the first and second films, the speculation as to wether or not a third film was going to happen at all was very high. We all heard the conflicting statements of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron. Finally Cameron said he would do it if 20th Century Fox would release it. Obviously that didn't happen and Arnold changed his mind after saying No.
The story of T3 is mediocre to average at best and I'll tell you why. To begin with, a lot of necessary exposition is missing. The writers essentially left out a major plot point with the former Cyberdyne Systems and Miles Dyson. Having a situation where Dyson designs Skynet's hardware and Brewster designs the software would have tied T3 a lot more strongly to the franchise. Another thing is what happens to Sarah Connor. This character has basically been the pennacle of the Terminator mythos. If the reigns have to pass from Sarah to John that's fine. But it would have worked better that we see her killed trying to escape after Skynet comes online.
Lastly the concept of The Terminatrix. Now just to be clear, I don't mind a woman being a Terminator. What I do have a problem with is the writers splitting hairs trying to differentiate the T-X from the T-1000. Now we could all see the difference between Arnold and the T-1000. But if the best they can do is showing the T-X endo during a copy, then that won't cut it. There are ways to come up with new concepts on something established. Maybe that's where Cameron could have worked some magic.
The only two things that worked for me were Arnold's description of what will happen in the future in terms of the war, and the ending surprised me though. It set up the fourth film pretty well. The missing elements Cameron's nightmarish vision and storytelling smoothness are what crippled this film. Not bad, but could have been better.

The partnership with NASA and IMAX films continues with a tour of the next step in space exploration: the International Space Station (ISS). Sixteen countries helped build this giant station (still being built upon the film's release in 2004). We see the first building blocks being constructed, including shots from inside the slick NASA shuttle launches to the friendly informalities of the Russian program. The crystal-clear pictures of the station and the Earth are the best aspects of this film. The entertaining footage delivers human elements, but sometimes the carefulness of experimentation makes for boring photography; a test of a super-cool jet pack has the astronaut moving mere inches. To the film's benefit, the narrator is Tom Cruise with a script tailored to his strong suits (the first line of "What an incredible sight!" is vintage Cruise). The film is also so light on its feet with a nice dose of music, including "Up on the Roof" and the Talking Heads "Naive Melody," that it makes up for the staginess of some of the scenes. The film was shown in 3-D in theaters but only 2-D for home video. --Doug Thomas

Imax "Space Station".......2007-03-10
If you have ever been fortunate to see this amazing 3D film in an Imax theatre then this DVD relives the experience, from the shattering launch of the Russian rocket to the superb shots of the earth whilst in orbit. The Imax print produces the usual high quality that we enjoy with all these DVD transfers and if you haven't seen it, get an armchair seat in the International Space Station, it's out of this world!
I didn't know........2007-03-01
Unbelievable to learn what we do outside the earths boundries. A little out dated but still great to watch.
This is a 2d version - take 3D!.......2007-01-07
Nice piece of video documentation in real space life.
It's at least marginally informational........2006-12-28
I enjoyed this to a point in terms of the information it presents, but overall it's rather slow and more than a little boring.
Absolutely Awe-Inspiring!!!.......2006-07-20
Sit back and relax. You are about to experience one of the best trips you will ever take...unless, of course, you are lucky enough to actually GO into space.
I wasn't able to see this movie when it was in IMAX theaters because I didn't have a theater near where I lived. I just got the DVD as a gift and, honestly, I would not have minded paying for it myself.
I watched the DVD on my laptop and the quality of the video was jaw-dropping impressive. I then moved over to the TV to watch it and it didn't miss a beat when it came to quality. The visuals are so stunning, I actually took screen-captures and am currently using them as desktop wallpaper. I don't think words can describe how great the DVD was as far as picture quality, so I hope that helped.
If you aren't a big fan of Tom Cruise (like myself), don't worry as his voice isn't in it too much. Although I must admit, he did a great job with his narration. Luckily, most of the narration you get is from the crews that have been on the ISS, which makes it a lot more interesting.
Someone had mentioned that the extras were the best part. While I agree that they were great, I think the whole package is evenly great. The movie itself gives you some awe-inspiring visuals and information about what it is like to live onboard the ISS, while the extras give you more info about the ISS itself (i.e. a tour of the station).
The worst part about this documentary, for me at least, was the fact that I didn't get to see it in an IMAX theater. If you are, or know somebody who is, a space fanatic, or just like IMAX videos, this is without a doubt one of the best purchases you can make.

Product Description
An engaging story that prepares children for traveling on an airplane, Shae by Air details the JOURNEY, not the destination. Made by a parent, and told from a young child's perspective, Shae by Air is a fun, educational way to prepare young children for the long lines and the security checkpoint (removing shoes and coats, walking through the beeping metal detector), the ear popping that accompanies takeoff and landing, as well as how to entertain and behave themselves while flying (no kicking the seats!). Your child will want to be a Good Little Traveler, just like Shae!
Designed and filmed with the input of child behavior specialists, the premise of each of the DVD Toolkits is that children, even small ones, have the capacity to understand what to expect and what is expected of them, and with that the ability to be respectful good little travelers. The Toolkits are FOR CHILDREN (ages 2-6).

My daughter loves it.......2007-05-16
My daughter absolutely love the video. It helps also when we get to the airport and goes thru the check point. She is a pro!!!!.
Outstanding Travel Tool for Even Young Toddlers .......2007-05-12
Although Shea by Air is intended for children two years and up, we used the DVD to prepare our 16-month old grandson for a trip from Minneapolis to Kauai, Hawaii involving many hours and three plane changes. He intently focused on Shea and preparations for the trip, what would happen at the airport and on the plane. After viewing and talking about Shea both before and during the flight, this very active toddler, much to our
surprise and delight, turned out to be a "very good little traveler." I'm convinced preparation using this DVD was the key to flights that were enjoyable for him, his parents and grandparents and all other passengers.
GREAT for 1st time travellers.......2007-05-09
I got this for my son (3 years) before our first flight. He watched it over and over (it isn't very long) and when we got to the airport, he was very proud that he knew what to do at each stop (ticket counter, security line). On the plane, he was very proud to tell the people around us, and the flight crew that HE was a good little traveller and would never kick the seat in front of him!!! I think it made our flight so much easier! Thank you!!
What a great video!.......2007-04-21
We are preparing to move from Florida to Australia and bought this DVD after seeing the reviews. Though we have not yet made the trip, this video captivated our 2 & 3 year old boys. They love Shae and have become fascinated with airplanes, the security line, not kicking the seat in front of you... etc.
I would highly recommend this to anyone travelling with a toddler!
This is a tool ALL children should have before flying!.......2006-11-04
This is an incredible tool to prepare your child for air travel.
My two year old was captivated by Shae and could relate to her throughout the process.
I liked that the DVD addressed common issues that children face in an airport and on an airplane -
going through security (putting their belongings on the moving belt),
not kicking the seat ahead of them, "pop" of the ears, etc.
Even though this is intended for toddlers, I believe it would be informative for ANY child who is preparing for a flight.
Thank you for creating this professional, informative, developmentally appropriate DVD-
this will make a difference for many people:
the children that learn from watching it, the parents of these prepared children, and the other passengers onboard-
NOT affected by kicked seats or screaming kids!
I am excited to include this tool on my website JetWithKids. Thank you!

Product Description
SOUNDTRACK (AUDIO): RUSSIAN DOLBY DIGITAL 2.0 / ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
SYNOPSIS: Vladimir Bortko has become the first Russian film director to start shooting of renowned Bulgakov's novel and not to stop half-way. All the others Russian directors once engaged in the production of "Master and Margaret" have actually turned out to be unable to finalize their projects. The rumors say, it is due to some mysticism... The "Master and Margaret" begins with two story lines: the Devil and his retinue show up to make mischief in 1930's Moscow while Matthew the Evangelist attempts to uncover the truth about Pontius Pilate and the Crucifixion of Jesus in Jerusalem in A. D. 33. Halfway through the novel, Bulgakov unveils a third story line set in Moscow, in which the love-stricken Margarita bargains with the Devil to be reunited with her lover, the Master, a tormented writer-hero who pines away in an insane asylum. Bulgakov gradually weaves the three scenarios together, all the while exercising devilish lampoonery and wit to satirize Soviet life under Stalin. Because public discussions of religion and critiques of the government had long been punishable by a trip to the gulag, the themes addressed in "Master and Margaret" very rarely surfaced in the Soviet Union: many Soviet citizens read the Gospel story for the first time in Bulgakov's narrative.
Customer Reviews:
The work is 5 star, the translation subtitles are 2 star.......2007-02-11
This film is a great work of art, and very visually interesting, however, if you must rely on the English subtitle translation, you will be very unhappy with this product. Each of the three disks seem to have a different translator.
The second disk is well done, and has only minor typos and tries to get the feel and substance of the conversations. Usually the subtitles are left long enough for a talented reader to comprehend, but people with reading difficulties, even minor, may be forced to review and pause.
The first disk leaves 3 minute blocks of conversation untranslated or flashes substantial subtitles for only 3-5 seconds, requiring the non-Russian speaking viewer to pause and review. I do not count the songs untranslated or movie titles and inserts from Russian script untranslated, but complete conversations are left with no translation.
The third disk is between the first and second in quality. Again one finds substantial untranslated conversations, but at least the storyline is there, in the most part, even thoughthere are more mispellings in these subtitles. I suspect the translations were made quickly and the translaotrs were of different qualitry, while the project coordinator didn't really care about the subplots, and subtle humor of the work being translated for an English speaking / reading audience.
The visuals slide easily between grainy greyscale to vibrant color, depending on the mood and setting. The parody of Soviet life is very accurate, as my ex-Soviet friends attest. The best possible recommendation is to first read the novel, then view this film. The best possible fix for the film would be to hire a new translator, or let the person(s) who worked on disk #2 redo disks #1 and #3.
Shame on the distributor for accepting the substandard translation that burden the acceptance of such a stunning work or art. I compromise with 3 stars, and hope Woland's cat visits the person who accepted such weak translations.
Great movie.......2007-01-15
I bought this movie for my mother and she loved it... she sent it to chicago to my grandmother and aunt and they loved it as well... I personally watched only 1/2 and it's very interesting and makes you think about live in a different light.
One of the truly great Russian novels of this Century.......2006-11-26
Although completed in 1940, The Master and Margarita was not published in Moscow until 1966, when the first part appeared in the magazine Moskva. It was an immediate and enduring success: Audiences responded with great enthusiasm to its expression of artistic and spiritual freedom.
Mikhail Bulgakov's devastating satire of Soviet life was written during the darkest period of Stalin's regime. Combining two distinct yet interwoven parts-one set in ancient Jerusalem, one in contemporary Moscow-the novel veers from moods of wild theatricality with violent storms, vampire attacks, and a Satanic ball; to such somber scenes as the meeting of Pilate and Yeshua, and the murder of Judas in the moonlit garden of Gethsemane; to the substanceless, circus-like reality of Moscow. Its central characters, Woland (Satan) and his retinue-including the vodka-drinking, black cat, Behemoth; the poet, Ivan Homeless; Pontius Pilate; and a writer known only as The Master, and his passionate companion, Margarita-exist in a world that blends fantasy and chilling realism, an artful collage of grostesqueries, dark comedy, and timeless ethical questions.
If you like the book you should see the first movie produced by Russians (producer Vladimir Bortko), simply because there is no other screen version made. It is found a very closed to the book and filmed in Russia. Many of comic and episodic scenes are funny and truly well made. These 480 film minutes are going really easy, especially if you know what is going on there and understand Russian well.
Famous Russian professional actors: Bezrukov, Basilashvili, Lavrov, Abdoolov, Philipenko, Cartsev, Ghaft, Olejnikov, etc., great music by Russian composer Igor Kornelyuk.
It is very interesting to compare it with your own impressions after reading the book.
'Say at last--who art thou?' 'That Power I serve Which wills forever evil Yet does forever good.' Goethe, Faust,.......2006-09-08
"Master i Margarita", the book and the movie:
I have read "Master and Margarita" three times, and I am sure that I will read it again. I was very lucky because all three times I read it in Russian, and even the best translation can not compare to the original. Every time, I found something new in the book; it would turn to me by different facets. "Master and Margarita" is incredibly beautiful, deep, sophisticated yet playful and sparkling book with unforgettable characters. In fact, it is not one novel but three. First, about the adventures of Devil and his company in the 1920-th Moscow; second, about Pontius Pilatus and Jesus in Jerusalem of the first century, and the third one, about the Master, the writer who wrote the second novel, and his eternal and true love, Margarita. The story of Master and Margarita is the story of Bulgakov and his wife and muse, Elena. All three stories are connected and intertwine. All three of them end with the exactly same phrase, "...the cruel fifth procurator of Judea, the equestrian Pontius Pilate."
So, what is the book about? Good, evil, betrayal, talent, love, forgiveness? Yes, it is. But it is so much more.
I had a lot of doubts before watching the film because as much as I wanted to see "Master and Margarita" on the screen I was not sure that it was possible to adapt it and not to lose anything important - which is everything.
I am pleasantly surprised - the film is very good. It is respectful, thoughtful and as close to the spirit of the greatest Russian novel of the last century as possible.
The movie is not perfect (and I don't think that the perfect transfer is possible) but the choice of actors, the music score, the visual palette that change as we enter the different eras, places, and dimensions are outstanding. I was initially surprised by some names but almost every actor proved him/herself very capable in bringing to the screen well known and beloved characters. I would say that some of special effects could be ...well, more special - for example, the mischievous talking cat Behemoth could be done more interestingly. I also don't see the exact reason for creating a new character, the man in uniform with the glasses and very recognizable accent who is in charge of investigating the "crimes of the band of powerful hypnotists" - how they call Woland and his entourage. One can argue that the titular couple, the tragic lovers, Master and Margarita are weaker and their story seems pale in the comparison to one of Pilat (bravo to 80 year old stage and screen legend, Kirill Lavrov who can be remembered as Ivan Karamazov in The Brothers Karamazov (1969) and Ieshua Ha-Notsri (incredible performance by the young bright star, Sergei Bezrukov of "Brigada"'s fame almost unrecognizable as Ieshua). I think no one can deny that Oleg Basilashvili as powerful, cynical and eternally wise Woland, the part of Power " Which wills forever evil Yet does forever good" IS the true Master of the film. My fascination and admiration belong to Alexander Abdulov on whom I as a young girl had a huge crush in his film debut. For many years he had been the Russian sex symbol but his enormous comical talent found its match in the part of Woland assistant/ translator, Koroviev. His and Behemoth's adventures in Moscow are screamingly funny. I think that the film is a successful and enjoyable adaptation of the beloved cult novel and I recommend seeing it. I am going to order the sound track. As I mentioned, the music by Igor Kornelyuk is one of the film's treasures.
P.S. I used to work on the street where the last home of Mikhail Bulgakov was. He was taken to the cemetery from there.
The famous "Pashkov's House" with the rotunda on the top where Woland and his team gathered together before they left Moscow forever, was in walking distance from my work, and I remember, once, I almost got hit by the car -I walked and looked at that music in stone and could not take my eyes off it.

For good, sleazy fun, check this fun T&A-fest out!!.......2002-03-18
I was never a huge fan of the first "Body Chemistry" and this made me not want to see the first sequel. However, I was intrigued by this entry into the already rather bland series (as erotic thrillers go, they're a tease at best, since they don't come in UNRATED editions), not only for the presences of Andrew Stevens (the hottie king of erotic smut) and Morgan Fairchild, but for the plot.
For those who don't know (and there are probably a lot who fit that category), "Point of Seduction's" plot revolves around a TV Producer named Alan Clay (Stevens) and his wife Beth Chaney (Fairchild), a soap star on a trashy nighttime soap called "Empire." Beth is looking for a magnum opus role for TV that her fans will truly remember her for, while Alan wants a production he can really sink his teeth into.
Alan hires an aspiring writer named Freddie(?) to write a script about the story of Dr. Clare Archer, a possible sociopathic radio psychiatrist who has been stalked by two of her former lovers. These supposed stalkings resulted in both their deaths. Of course, these are the two previous entries in the series.
Clare (this time played by Sherri Sattuck) objects at first, but after a night of steamy lovemaking with Alan in a hotel room after the power goes out, she gives into his ideas. And the usual trouble ensues. Is she a temptress in distress, or a heartless, bitchy murderess (gasp!)
It was SO much fun watching this corny flick, because the actors try to be so serious, but instead are wooden, melodramatic, and ultimately unconvincing. But it was intentional, to an extent, I'm sure. Also, the film was made by classic smut jockey Jim "Remove Your Tops, Please, Ladies!" Wynorski, who gave the late-night direct-to-video crowd other "gems" such as "Sorceress," and "Sins of Desire."
Soap fans will undoubtedly enjoy this, as it is a tighter 90-minute version with a LOT of flesh you'll never see on TV!

The Killers are Out There.......2003-05-26
A struggling taxi company has struggling taxi drivers with heavy emotional issues, add to this a serial killer who is after the taxi drivers and apparently enjoys killing them at night for sport, and what do you have? An instant movie classic? Perhaps not. But with good acting by Glover, Grier, and Rodriguez, you end up with a fine movie. This movie shows a colorful but desperate world of the working class in a big city. There is everything here: love, childhood trauma, fear of commitment, prostitution, and, of course, murder. There are even stories of Bosnian genocide!
We are introduced to a cab driver from Bosnia who is not only one of the worst natural drivers in the world, but also incredibly distracted. This means that every day he has an accident. He is so accident prone that he ends up having to leave the country and his love (who prostitutes herself at a bathhouse) and go back to Bosnia.
Not to be outdone, Glover's and Rodriguez's characters resort to extreme violence when they feel physically or emotionally pushed. The movie is original, and its host of ethnic characters makes it fun and colorful. The ending is also not your typical happy ending. It is not that unhappy. It is just not typical. I recommend the movie.
it's just not good...........2003-04-16
After seeing Girlfight I was excited about the new young actress Michelle Rodriguez. If anyone needs to see a phenomenal debut film, that would be the one. Girlfight marked Rodriguez as a new talent to watch. Her subsequent films (Fast and the Furious, Resident Evil, and even Blue Crush) have all played on the tough girl theme that was introduced in Girlfight. I was trying to find all of the movies in which she had acted in the hopes that a performance would measure up to her first. While nothing has measured up to her first movie, in my search for her movies, I found something called 3 AM. I had never heard of this movie before, and since it co-starred Danny Glover and Pam Grier, I figured this was some independent movie that slipped under the radar. I gave it a rent and sat down to watch it. When the opening credits rolled, I found out that this was a Showtime movie. It probably never had a theatrical release and until it came out on DVD was likely only shown on Showtime. While there is excellent programming on cable (Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, etc), finding out that it is a made for Showtime movie does not inspire confidence, regardless of the actors involved.
The story follows several cabdrivers in New York City. There is a serial killer out there who is targeting cabbies, and there is a lot of fear amongst the cabbies wondering who is going to be next. As the killings continue, it hits closer to home as a cabdriver friend is killed. Danny Glover plays a cabdriver who is in love with Pam Grier (a waitress). Michelle Rodriguez plays a young cabbie trying to pay her rent, but is haunted by visions of her past. Yes, Rodriguez is still playing to type as her character is the tough girl, somewhat angry. She plays it well, but at some point Michelle is going to have to stop playing variations on the same character.
This is a fairly disappointing movie. Despite being acted by some top line talents and being produced (with a cameo appearance) by Spike Lee, this movie is just not very good. I wanted very much to like this movie, but I just couldn't. Unless you are trying to complete a collection of movies starring your favorite actor, give this one a pass and spend your money on something good,
