This film, which again pairs Richard Gere and Kim Basinger (who starred in 1986's No Mercy), offers up elements of classic noir: a hapless man becomes intimately involved with a beautiful blonde who may or may not be who or what she appears to be. Dedicated psychiatrist Isaac Barr (Gere) reluctantly, and then more obsessively, becomes involved with Heather Evans (Basinger), the sister of his patient, Diana Baylor (Uma Thurman). Evans is unhappily married to a gangster (appropriately played by a muscular and menacing Eric Roberts in a trademark role). Gere and Basinger make a credible, if dangerous couple, and Thurman delivers a subtle, understated performance and demonstrates her range and potential.
The thriller is appropriately shot in gorgeous San Francisco, where the literal and figurative curving and hilly roads wind throughout. Credit legendary art director Dean Tavoularis for some amazing sets and scenes, notably the elegantly cavernous restaurant where Evans and her husband have a fateful dinner.
This film is, in a way, glossy director Phil Joanou's Hitchcockian tribute--as a climactic lighthouse scene best demonstrates. Final Analysis doesn't offer an intimate look at its characters, but a beautifully stylized one, moody and gloomy. The intricate plot experiments with the device of "pathological intoxication," in which the subject completely loses control after drinking alcohol. And this doesn't mean a conventional ugly drunk; it means a frightening psychotic. Good and evil, hope and despair, beauty and repulsion are often juxtaposed in the film's complex world. --N.F. I would have given this movie 3 1/2 stars but I won't! I won't because there are absolutely NO extras on this DVD. U don't even have the optoin to a special featres menu! Only Start Movie, Jump to a Scene, and Language selection. I just hope that Warner Bros. can find it in thier hearts to release a special edition WITH GOOD EXTRAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Final Analysis" is a silly love story/psychiatrist movie/court room drama that attempts to shovel us as many twist and turns as it can, only to fall more and more into the stupidity category. That doesn't mean the movie is bad, because it's not bad, it's just not that good. It has it's entertaining parts, but some of it just falls flat. The movie stars Richard Gere as Isaac Barr, a therapist is treating his mentally disturbed patient Diana (Uma Thurman) when he meets her gorgeous older sister Heather (Oscar Winner Kim Basinger). Barr and Heather begin having an affair, despite the fact that Heather is married to a gangster (Eric Roberts...Yeah, I thought it was funny too). Everything's going well, until Heather kills her husband and has Barr go to court with her and keep her out of jail. Then, right after we're done with the tiring court scenes we jump into way too many silly twists (although the first few were pretty smart). I mean, despite being extremely flawed, this movie does have some O.K. moments. I certainly didn't hate the film; but there are a lot of things wrong with it, besides the plot. Richard Gere is good in his role, there are parts you see him playing frequently. Kim Basinger, most of the time, is playing the person Alec Baldwin makes her out to be in court. A disturbed and mean woman. While Basinger is a fantastic actress, there are times here where she gives a blatant display of overacting. Thurman is great, but her character isn't drawn out that well and some of her motives aren't explained. There are a lot of events in this movie that could've been resolved a lot more easily than the characters choose to do them. Then, there's Eric Roberts who is already the victim of constant ridicule on shows like "South Park" and "Family Guy." It's in this movie it becomes clear why he gets this ridicule. Acting is about not letting other people know you're acting; In this film it looks like Roberts was doing facial impressions of old gangster movies. The way he walks and the way he talks in this movie is really bad sometimes. Overall the movie is mildly entertaining, has some semi-witty dialogue, overacting/bad acting, and two, that's right TWO, bad endings. So, why am I not giving this movie a D or an F. Because it somehow manages to be pretty amusing at times.

about the movie final analysis..............2006-05-10
I bought the code 1 of final analysis from Singapore video shop...hee hee and watch have watched it. The story is about two sister whom one of them is a killer and the other is a non killer where the killer finally fell to her death while trying to shoot investigating officer with a gun. (The killer is trying to tell the investigating officer a story and in the end killed his would be bridegroom to death with a dumbell, she later caught the investigating officer for finding out what caused her to kill and she decided to get rid of him). The other woman whom is the sister of the killer finally found a suitable boyfriend. A recommended buy....

Final Analysis was a bit of a disappointment, considering the makeup of the cast: Richard Gere, Kim Basinger, Uma Thurman, and Eric Roberts among others!
The movie brings to the screen the story of a psychiatrist who gets romantically involved with the sister of a young woman he is treating. There is more to the two sisters though than meets the eye...
The acting is surprisingly (!)... average, the plot is below average, while the dialogues are way below average.
The major setback is in relation to Richard Gere's character; he is not all that likable and I found myself from the start rooting for the "other side," which also means that I was very much disappointed with the ending...
Eric Robert's character, a raving lunatic of a gangster, was overly exaggerated to the point that it got tiring AND annoying very early on.
As for his being "Greek Orthodox," you will excuse me if I don't get the negative connotation (being from that neck of the woods and all....).
The acting was not that great either; Kim Basinger was unexpectedly (!) plain and bland.
As for the minor/supporting actors, this film does not seem to be their thing. Subsequently, they are not convincing in their roles.
In conclusion, the whole "romantic relationship" began way too quickly and too abruptly, while the last scenes at the pier, the subsequent kidnapping, and the lighthouse, were WEAK to say the least!
Though the potential for a great movie was definitely there it fails to take off. A shame really... No masterpiece here.
An Engrossing Thriller!!!.......2005-11-07
I recently saw this movie for the first time and was pretty surprised at how much I liked it. Even though the plot was weak, I thought the acting was pretty decent. Gorgeous Kim Bassinger plays the sister of Uma Thurman who is a psychiatric patient of Richard Gere. Gere gets involved with Bassinger, who is unhappily married to Eric Roberts, a mafia-type businessman. Bassinger kills him (Roberts); and has Gere and a lawyer-friend of his represent her in a trial. Just when you think that you know how the movie is going to end, then there is another twist. First you think that Thurman is the psychologically ill one, then Bassinger, then both. But it is not as simple as that either. There is a curmudgeonly detective played by the terrific character actor Keith David. Just give this one a chance. You don't have to necessarily own it, but I would say to rent it at least. Make your own "Final Analysis".

The movie stars Richard Gere as Isaac Barr, a therapist is treating his mentally disturbed patient Diana (Uma Thurman) when he meets her gorgeous older sister Heather (Oscar Winner Kim Basinger). Barr and Heather begin having an affair, despite the fact that Heather is married to a gangster (Eric Roberts...Yeah, I thought it was funny too). Everything's going well, until Heather kills her husband and has Barr go to court with her and keep her out of jail. Then, right after we're done with the tiring court scenes we jump into way too many silly twists (although the first few were pretty smart). I mean, despite being extremely flawed, this movie does have some O.K. moments. I certainly didn't hate the film; but there are a lot of things wrong with it, besides the plot. Richard Gere is good in his role, there are parts you see him playing frequently. Kim Basinger, most of the time, is playing the person Alec Baldwin makes her out to be in court. A disturbed and mean woman. While Basinger is a fantastic actress, there are times here where she gives a blatant display of overacting. Thurman is great, but her character isn't drawn out that well and some of her motives aren't explained. There are a lot of events in this movie that could've been resolved a lot more easily than the characters choose to do them. Then, there's Eric Roberts who is already the victim of constant ridicule on shows like "South Park" and "Family Guy." It's in this movie it becomes clear why he gets this ridicule. Acting is about not letting other people know you're acting; In this film it looks like Roberts was doing facial impressions of old gangster movies. The way he walks and the way he talks in this movie is really bad sometimes. Overall the movie is mildly entertaining, has some semi-witty dialogue, overacting/bad acting, and two, that's right TWO, bad endings. So, why am I not giving this movie a D or an F. Because it somehow manages to be pretty amusing at times.

about the movie final analysis..............2006-05-10
I bought the code 1 of final analysis from Singapore video shop...hee hee and watch have watched it. The story is about two sister whom one of them is a killer and the other is a non killer where the killer finally fell to her death while trying to shoot investigating officer with a gun. (The killer is trying to tell the investigating officer a story and in the end killed his would be bridegroom to death with a dumbell, she later caught the investigating officer for finding out what caused her to kill and she decided to get rid of him). The other woman whom is the sister of the killer finally found a suitable boyfriend. A recommended buy....

Final Analysis was a bit of a disappointment, considering the makeup of the cast: Richard Gere, Kim Basinger, Uma Thurman, and Eric Roberts among others!
The movie brings to the screen the story of a psychiatrist who gets romantically involved with the sister of a young woman he is treating. There is more to the two sisters though than meets the eye...
The acting is surprisingly (!)... average, the plot is below average, while the dialogues are way below average.
The major setback is in relation to Richard Gere's character; he is not all that likable and I found myself from the start rooting for the "other side," which also means that I was very much disappointed with the ending...
Eric Robert's character, a raving lunatic of a gangster, was overly exaggerated to the point that it got tiring AND annoying very early on.
As for his being "Greek Orthodox," you will excuse me if I don't get the negative connotation (being from that neck of the woods and all....).
The acting was not that great either; Kim Basinger was unexpectedly (!) plain and bland.
As for the minor/supporting actors, this film does not seem to be their thing. Subsequently, they are not convincing in their roles.
In conclusion, the whole "romantic relationship" began way too quickly and too abruptly, while the last scenes at the pier, the subsequent kidnapping, and the lighthouse, were WEAK to say the least!
Though the potential for a great movie was definitely there it fails to take off. A shame really... No masterpiece here.
An Engrossing Thriller!!!.......2005-11-07
I recently saw this movie for the first time and was pretty surprised at how much I liked it. Even though the plot was weak, I thought the acting was pretty decent. Gorgeous Kim Bassinger plays the sister of Uma Thurman who is a psychiatric patient of Richard Gere. Gere gets involved with Bassinger, who is unhappily married to Eric Roberts, a mafia-type businessman. Bassinger kills him (Roberts); and has Gere and a lawyer-friend of his represent her in a trial. Just when you think that you know how the movie is going to end, then there is another twist. First you think that Thurman is the psychologically ill one, then Bassinger, then both. But it is not as simple as that either. There is a curmudgeonly detective played by the terrific character actor Keith David. Just give this one a chance. You don't have to necessarily own it, but I would say to rent it at least. Make your own "Final Analysis".
