A dazzling and yet frequently maddening bid to bring the movie musical kicking and screaming into the 21st century, Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge bears no relation to the many previous films set in the famous Parisian nightclub. This may appear to be Paris in the 1890s, with can-can dancers, bohemian denizens like Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo), and ribaldry at every turn, but it's really Luhrmann's pop-cultural wonderland. Everyone and everything is encouraged to shatter boundaries of time and texture, colliding and careening in a fast-cutting frenzy that thinks nothing of casting Elton John's "Your Song" 80 years before its time. Nothing is original in this kaleidoscopic, absinthe-inspired love tragedy--the words, the music, it's all been heard before. But when filtered through Luhrmann's love for pop songs and timeless showmanship, you're reminded of the cinema's power to renew itself while paying homage to its past.

Luhrmann's overall success with his third "red-curtain" extravaganza (following Strictly Ballroom and William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet) is wildly debatable: the scenario is simple to the point of silliness, and how can you appreciate choreography when it's been diced into hash by attention-deficit editing? Still, there's something genuine brewing between costars Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman (as, respectively, a poor writer and his unobtainable object of desire), and their vocal talents are impressive enough to match Luhrmann's orgy of extraordinary sets, costumes, and digital wizardry. The movie's novelty may wear thin, along with its shallow indulgence of a marketable soundtrack, but Luhrmann's inventiveness yields moments that border on ecstasy, when sound and vision point the way to a moribund genre's joyously welcomed revival. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Moulin Rouge!.......2007-06-01

What a GREAT Musical! You have to watch it in a surround sound system and very loud to relly enjoy the music and details of the actors performance... Outstanding! I love the part of Roxxane ina Tango... WOW!

5 out of 5 stars Moulin Rouge - Very Entertaining!.......2007-05-25

I did not go to see this movie when it was in the theaters. So when it was shown on TV last month I watched it and fell in love with it. I'm sure this movie does not appeal to everyone but I think it's great. I think the casting is right on. The music is fabulous. The look of the movie is colorful and fun to watch. I bought the DVD and watch this movie over and over. I never tire of it!

5 out of 5 stars Its the way of life... A life less Ordinary all over again!.......2007-05-17

Being a huge Ewan Mcgregor fan, I was ecstatic that he was doing another "A Life Less Ordinary", and by the way, if you haven't seen that, you have too! This is the kind of film that makes you want to jump up and down, cry, cover your face with a pillow, and feel like the worlds your oyster. I know, that is probably the cheesiest line ever, but this movie has it's cheesy moments as well. Things to look out for are all the great music, maybe not the right time-period, but its the same kind of thing as Marie Antoinette, fun, loud things that bring in a comic air, without being totally over the top. But Moulin Rouge has to have its over the top moments, otherwise it wouldn't go with the Bohemiam Revolution... Beauty, Freedom, Peace and Love. It sounds totally Hippie esque, but after seeing it, you don't have to sleep in a teepee. You just have to jump in front of moving cars, waving pamphlets about how great the red cedars are.
But to be honest, the part that really gets you, is that in the very first scene an argentinian falls through the ceiling, and they all start singing the Sound of Music. I know, I know, a teensy (aka huge) bit unorthodox, but hey, I always loved people falling through celings, maybe it was growing up with Looney Toons.

1 out of 5 stars if garish sights & blaring volume were what constituted high art, this would be "grand illusion".......2007-05-12

baz luhrmanns insufferably stupid backstage melodrama ranks among the worst big budget films of the century to date. ten minutes of this work of "art" was enough to convince me of its low quality, bt i stayed with it, and then (hoping id gain some insight) i even listened to the creators commentary track: a self-indulgent bit of verbal vomit surpassing even the nonsense i was looking at! oh come on folks, do you TRUTHFULLY find this either entertaining or edifying? now lets hear the brickabats from the fans of this messterpiece; ive no doubt they will tell me what a maroon i am for pointing out that the emperor is naked...

5 out of 5 stars Very Bizarre and Thoroughly Entertaining.......2007-05-08

Moulin Rouge is one of those movies that really stands out from the crowd, for its sheer uniqueness and for being highly-stylized. Being absolutely hilarious is a plus too!

I am a fan of Baz Luhrmann movies, because they present a modernized yet over-the-top fantasy world that refuses to apologize for itself. If you liked his modernized version of Romeo + Juliet, you'll love Moulin Rouge, it's even better and much wilder.

There are SO many lyrical references to other songs in this movie, that it might take dozens of repeat viewings to try and catch them all. And the way that lyrics are blended into dialogue is unprecedented and one of the best parts of the movie.

If you liked other highly-stylized movies such as Sin City or 300, you will also like Moulin Rouge.

If you like movie-musicals that blend moviemaking techniques with stage performance, such as Chicago, you will definitely like this one too.

Overall the movie is just too creative and artistic to be easy to describe, so I'm just going to tell you to go see it. As long as you let go of any expectation of realism, just sit back and enjoy the hilarious and heartwrenching show.

It was one of the top 10 grossing films of 1952 and garnered seven Oscar nominations, but Moulin Rouge is neglected today. Not to be confused with the Baz Luhrmann-Nicole Kidman extravaganza, this is a color-soaked tale of Toulouse-Lautrec (Jose Ferrer), based on a romanticized novel about the artist's life. Director John Huston explores the discrepancy between the creation of exquisite art and the messy business of living--especially messy for the growth-stunted, alcoholic painter, whose affairs revolve around prostitutes. The soap-opera aspects of the storyline limit the picture (as does the distracting fact of Ferrer walking on his knees), but it has some gorgeous things in it. The experiments in color photography (which horrified the Technicolor people) are spectacularly successful, and the movie won Oscars for set decoration and costumes. George Auric's haunting melody became a standard, so lovely even the dubbed performance of Zsa Zsa Gabor couldn't hurt it. --Robert Horton

Description

Nominated* for seven Academy Awards(r) (including Best Picture) and winner of two, this visually stunning biography of master artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is a "painting come to life" (Time)! "Flawlessly directed" (The Hollywood Reporter) by John Huston (The African Queen), from a script by Anthony Veiller and Huston, Moulin Rouge is simply "irresistible" (Newsweek)! As a dwarf, Toulouse-Lautrec (Jose Ferrer) believes he's too ugly to ever fall in love. So he loses himself in painting and cognac. A fixture at Paris' infamous turn-of-the-century Moulin Rouge nightclub, Lautrec meets a girl from the street who then breaks his heart. Luckily, newfound artistic success, copious amounts of drink and friendship with a new woman keep him alive. Will he be able to mend his broken heart in time to recognize the true love now staring him inthe face?

5 out of 5 stars Moulin Rouge.......2007-06-26

A box-office smash in 1952, John Huston's engrossing biopic about the discordant life and loves of famed 19th-century painter Toulouse-Lautrec is drenched in colors taken from the artist's own palette. Shot mostly from the waist up, but acting on his knees, José Ferrer does a remarkable job of conveying the gloomy Toulouse-Lautrec, whose infirmity crippled his self-esteem but instigated his flagrant art. Zsa Zsa Gabor, as entertainer Jane Avril, is captivating, while composer Georges Auric's now-classic score gives "Rouge" a melancholy cast. The flamboyant opening sequence is one of Huston's finest set pieces.

5 out of 5 stars Moulin Rouge.......2007-05-16

Great fun to see this exellent film about Touluse-Lautrec again.
Can recommend this film to all lovers of Paris.

4 out of 5 stars Ugly side of artistic genius (recommended).......2007-02-25

Not to be confused with the Nicole Kidman version of MOULIN ROUGE! (2001), this 1952 fictional portrait dramatizes love in the life of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (José Ferrer). MOULIN ROUGE will stir emotions from pity to disgust. Hopefully without gving away too much, you may even notice a familiar plot borrowed from Bette Davis' early work OF HUMAN BONDAGE (1934).

A wealthy heir's life is dramatically altered by a childhood accident that leaves him crippled, estranged, cynical, and alcohol dependent. Through his adversity, a co-dependant relationship between the unseemly backstreet life of France and a prolific artist is nurtured. Ever on guard against emotional attachment and the bitter pain to which it routinely leads, articulate Lautrec fails to recognize genuine love.

Ferrer convincingly plays the dual role as diminutive Toulouse and his own stately father. It did seem dubbed so I was surprised to later read that a black burlesque showgirl in the movie, Aicha (Muriel Smith), provides the singing voice for brief, mostly annoying, appearances by Zsa Zsa Gabor. It is difficult to call a sad movie "good" but that is a fair depiction of MOULIN ROUGE. Prepare yourself for the ugly side of artistic genius.

Movie quote: "Only Leonardo could have painted that smile. She smiles with her eyes!" "I don't care if she smiles with her navel, that still doesn't say that Da Vinci painted it."

5 out of 5 stars what a movie.......2006-11-03

the best movie ever made about montmartre, the moulin rouge and toulouse lautrec.

5 out of 5 stars Elegantly Debauched Life, Whimsically Portrayed Death.......2006-07-01

Through John Huston's directorial talents, the colors of Toulouse-Lautrec's palette are duly celebrated as he recreates the night life of fin-de-ciecle Paris.
Our story begins at the famous nightclub in 1890, the year after its opening, where can-can girls and a few professinal male dancers compete for customers' attentions and occassionally brawl with each other.
Serenely sitting at a table sipping cognac and sketching the scene is Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the physically deformed son of a noble family, whose condition causes him to empathize with societal outcastes, played with all the elegance of the nobility by Jose Ferrer, who, in a dual role, also portrays the artist's father.
Before the last can-can of the evening, the raucous behavior of those on the dance floor is broken up by the appearance of Jane Avril(the always-exquisite Zsa-Zsa Gabor), who sings a ballad that sounds as hopeful as it is melancholy. Muriel Smith, who plays the exotic Aicha, provided Gabor's singing voice. One inaccuracy of the film is that Avril was the only dancer of the Moulin Rouge allowed to wear colored underwear.
As the artist walks home down the dark, foreboding streets, fending off a potential pickpocket, and passing by one lady of the night beforehand, the audience reviews his early life; once expected to carry the traditions of his ancient family into the future, fate dealt him a cruel blow when an accident( in reality, two accidents within two years) revealed a genetic condition that stunted the growth of his legs. Rejection by the girl he loved drove him to make his life elsewhere.
He saves prostitute Marie Charlet(Colette Marchand) from arrest, and shelters her, but suffers because of her ingratitude, then becomes even more unhappy when he tries to part with her. Depressed, he drinks even more heavily to the point where even his mother, Adele(Claude Nollier)encourages a reconciliation in the hope that he will not drink himself to death. But the reunion is not sucessful. In the grand tradition of artists, Toulouse-Lautrec puts all his emotion into his work, which immortalizes such Moulin Rouge regulars as the wiry, hook-nosed Valentin Le Desosse(Walter Crisham), and Louise Weber, a.k.a., "La Goulue"(Katherine Kath).
One interesting character who is absent from the story is the red-scarved insult comic, Aristide Bruant, who insulted everyone who came to the Moulin Rouge except for Henri.
Gradually, we watch Toulouse-Lautrec make innovations in art as a draftsman, and gain stature in his profession, and the character of the Moulin Rouge change from a bawdy dance hall to a more sophisticated societal club. The flighty, fliratious Jane continues to have affairs, La Goulue becomes more superficially pompous and difficult, and the King of Prussia (Theodore Bikel)purchases one of Henri's paintings. The pauses in which the artist's sketches dance across the screen are truly a feast
for the eye.
As Henri takes up with a society woman named Myriamme Hayam (Suzanne Flon), the couple observe Jane's rise in status as a stage performer, and they manage to rescue La Goulue from oblivion.
Elegant surroundings do not alter Henri's view of love or his cynical, self-deprecating humor.
After his affair with Myriamme ends, his drinking increases, and his art dealer, Maurice Joyant(Lee Montague), and his housekeeper, Madame Louet(Mary Clare) stand helplessly by. But the film politely deals only with part of what leads to his demise and does not mention syphilis, as it would if it were made today.
A tragic fall down a flight of stairs leads to the 36-year-old's return home to his family chateau to die. His mother expresses her grief, and there is a fictionalized expression of remorse from his father.... But in the mind's eye of the dying artist, the characters he knew at the outset return to bid him farewell, led by the non-speaking Black male dancer, then Le Desosse on the arm of La Goulue, who stopped fighting with Aicha....Then out of the mists of time, memory, and imagination, his beloved Jane, who bids him adieu and then must be off...Soon, Henri leaves us too, amid the viewing of one last fiery can-can by dancers waving handkerchiefs...Would that the ends of all of our lives could be that whimsical!

Baz Luhrmann has coined the term red curtain cinema for his technique of using theatrical conventions to invigorate films to dazzling and dizzying heights, as shown in the three contained in this set: Strictly Ballroom (1993), William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (1996), and Moulin Rouge (2001). Luhrmann notes the important characteristics of this style: take a well-known myth or fable and set it in a heightened creative world that the audience can participate in. In Strictly Ballroom, it's both David and Goliath and the Ugly Duckling set in the supercharged world of ballroom-dancing competition. For Romeo & Juliet, it's the star-crossed lovers transplanted to modern-day Verona Beach yet still peppered with Shakespeare's iambic pentameter. Moulin Rouge takes the story of Orpheus descending into the underworld in search of love then sets it in 19th-century Paris and adds modern pop songs.

The Red Curtain Trilogy includes these three films in loaded special-edition DVDs (all available separately), with featurettes and commentary tracks by Luhrmann and production designer (and Luhrmann's wife) Catherine Martin among others, and, in the case of Moulin Rouge, a second disc of features. Fans may opt for this trilogy rather than the separate discs because of its exclusive bonus DVD, "Behind the Red Curtain," the centerpiece of which is the documentary "Red Curtain Cinema," in which Luhrmann explains his theory behind this system of storytelling. It's 20 minutes if you watch it straight through, but numerous onscreen links offer two hours of older interviews, clips from other Luhrmann works, scripts, and an example of the Bollywood style. Other items include a 6-minute tour of the "House of Iona" (the home of the Bazmark creative team), and a grab bag of other materials such as all three scripts, DVD-ROM features, and an early example of the "red curtain" style, a pop interpretation of a Benjamin Britten opera excerpt called "Now Until the Light of Day." No doubt Luhrmann fans will consider the Red Curtain Trilogy "spectacular spectacular." --David Horiuchi

It is awesome. Such good movies. Perhaps Strictly Ballroom is a little less known, but it is hilarious. This trilogy is great. How can you go wrong with Strictly Ballroom, The Moulin Rouge, and the modern Romeo and Juliet? I highly highly recommend it. And not a bad price at all!

5 out of 5 stars Cinematic Masterpieces .......2006-11-12

I love all 3 films and Baz Lurhman for making them.

The 1st film Strictly Ballroom is about a wallflower in love with an energetic young male dancer from a ballroom dancing obsessed family. Scott Hastings is set to become ballroom dancing's next star, but his partner Liz, leaves him for a hilariously drunk idiot puppet dancer. Enter Fran, the wallflower student in his mother's studio and the daughter of immigrants. The immigrants are fabulous Latin dancers seeing as Fran's father is a legendary flamenco dancer, her Grandmother is too and the Paso Doble is never the same when you see it in this movie. The lesson of the movie is never let fear keep you from your dreams even against tremendous odds. The subject of the movie is also dance and you see it at its visual best with cinematic glitz

The 2nd film is a modern homage to Shakespeare with the tale of Romeo and Juliet portrayed in a modern setting, but with the immortal words of Shakespeare. Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Daines are the perfect actors to play the doomed lovers; I also loved John Leguizamo as the smart Mercutio. The visual power of the film combined with the words is indeed appealing to the current generation's preference for visual media.

The 3rd film combines dance, words, and music to culminate in a cinematic masterpiece to the senses that seduces the viewer into the story. The doomed romance of Christian and Satine is made more poignant by the sharp use of color and the witty use of modern musical pop tunes. I will never forget the rendition of Like A Virgin.

I recommend everyone to have these 3 films in their movie collection.

4 out of 5 stars Great stuff except the DVD-ROM.......2005-01-07

Moulin Rouge is my boyfriend and my most favorite movie ever. We never expected to like, not one bit. But after we rented it, then bought it -- well, we've watched it dozens and dozens of times and even gone to a Sing-a-Long night here in DC, which was great fun. Romance, conflict, pop songs and a whole lot of foretelling lead up to the most fulfilling climax and an ever-so-sad ending. "Quick, play it again!"

Romeo & Juliet is cool enough. The best part of the whole thing is when they die at the end. (I don't think I'm giving anything away with that famous plot twist.) Honestly, I wasn't familiar with the plot or dialogue so I was lost the first time I watched it. Then I rewatched it with the English subtitles -- big help! Thank gawd for DVDs.

Strictly Ballroom is the weakest of the three and the only one I originally saw in the theatre. It's a modest cinderella-type story mostly told from the prince-like dancer who plays the lead. The side characters are rather cartoonish and other than the lead, no one is as beautiful as this storyline needs them to be. It's okay.

I was most excited to finally buy this triple pack for my boyfriend's birthday a few months ago -- I really wanted to see what the 4th Disc had. I liked the workshop documentary and loved the remix of "Someday I'll Fly Away." There's some nice stuff here... but A LOT is missing, too: NONE of the DVD-ROM links work anymore! I have no idea what tidbits I'm missing, but I feel a bit ripped off [sigh]. What's left is some bits of the background music from the movie. The best song is under the "Toulouse Tonight" section, "Meet you in the Red Room" I think is what it's called. But the screenplay and web vignettes are all gone. Come on FOX, get it back online or give me a partial refund! It hasn't been that long since this set came out.

4 out of 5 stars The "Curtain" rises.......2004-07-31

The colorful, whirling world of Baz Luhrmann is brought to life in the Red Curtain Trilogy, comprising "Strictly Ballroom," "Romeo + Juliet," and "Moulin Rouge." While there are sticky patches -- particularly the pairing of Danes and DiCaprio in "Romeo + Juliet" --the overall effect is beautiful and poignant.

"Strictly Ballroom" is the problem in Scott's (Paul Mercurio) life. He's an outstanding dancer, but he refuses to conform to the Australian ballroom rules -- he wants to dance his own steps. When he loses his partner, awkward Fran (Tara Morice) enters the scene and asks to dance with him. These two outcasts of the ballroom start to fall in love as they try to win a major competition.

"Romeo + Juliet" gives a modern Californian twist to the classic tale of feuding families and starcrossed young lovers. Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Juliet (Claire Danes) come from a pair of families locked in a deadly feud, but they fall in love anyway. Their desperate efforts to be together lead to tragedy...

"Moulin Rouge" gives us another kind of bittersweet love story -- a musical rather than a revamped classic. Bohemian poet Christian (Ewan McGregor) dips into the sensuous, flashy world of Moulin Rouge. There he falls in love with the beautiful, sickly Satine (Nicole Kidman), a star at the club, and a well-known courtesan. Unfortunately, their growing love is threatened by a duke, who wants Satine all for himself.

As a boy, Baz Luhrmann grew up around ballroom competitions, which give the heart to these movies. But the soul is in the presentation. It's theatrical, colorful, dazzling to the eyes and centered on classic tales of doomed love and succeeding against the odds.

Luhrmann's sense of the theatrical is included in his direction -- it can be very sharp and fast, and sometimes downright crazy. With another director, it might seem flashy and gaudy, but Luhrmann's unique style works. A particular risk is making a musical, something which spelled death for movies for a long time... until Luhrmann revived it with Moulin Rouge. Or the postmodern tale of Romeo and Juliet, which is imperfect, but still quite pleasant.

The acting tends to be excellent, although the acting in "Romeo + Juliet" is spotty, and DiCaprio and Danes have zero chemistry. But McGregor and Kidman in particular are outstanding, and Tara Morice and Paul Mercurio of "Strictly Ballroom" have electricity and sweetness to spare. The supporting actors are quite good as well.

And the three-DVD set is graced with plenty of extras -- documentaries, commentary on each film, behind-the-scenes peeks, featurettes, and some gorgeous music videos. And there's even an extra disc included with a "Red Curtain" documentary about Luhrmann's style, scripts, screensavers, more music videos, and more.

Baz Luhrmann reinvented the musical and gave his movies a lush, strange look that entices viewers even now. Sensuous, fun and funky, this is a trilogy to definitely check out.

5 out of 5 stars arguably one of the greatest movies ever.......2007-01-04

This movie succeeded. The elements and what it's trying to do are good enough, but what is so wonderful about this film is that it comes together into an intimate, nice fit. The stars are sensational. The plot calls on the supporting players to rise to sensational performances as well, and I never saw anyone falling short. The piece is as seemless and fun as art should be, and -- give it up! -- it's a musical, a Chinese musical! However it all works, it does, so reward yourself with this. It's worth buying a multiregional player just so you can see the version with special features. There is a growing body of first-rate Chinese cinema and this movie has a special place in its firmament.

4 out of 5 stars Life is a movie - with deleted scenes and added songs.......2006-11-29

Peter Chan's Perhaps Love is an intriguing Chinese/Hong Kong/Malaysian backstage musical built around the notion of life as a movie where we constantly edit our memories and that, while we are all the leading players in our personal movie, we're no more than bit parts rather than co-stars in anybody else's and that consequently life is full of abandoned subplots and deleted footage. With the huge amount of mutual crossover between local pop stars and Hong Kong movies, it's surprising there have been so few movie musicals from that part of the world, but they're thin enough on the ground for this to be marketed as the first Chinese musical in 40 years. Only it's not 'really' a musical - like most modern musicals, it tries to disguise the fact it's a musical by setting its drama against the making of a movie musical as Takeshi Kaneshiro has to come to terms with the fact that the great love of his life (Zhao Xun, excellent in a virtual dual role) has completely edited him out of her memory because to her the past is only useful as a reminder of what to get away from. Her present is Jacky Cheung's director with Fellini syndrome (he can't see what he really wants to do with his film), and she's already rewriting that relationship in expectation of a Hollywood deal. Through it all wanders Ji Jin-hee's angelic keeper of discarded footage, an occasional observer rather than an active participant.

Hong Kong's failed official entry for the Best Foreign Film Oscar, it's a lavishly mounted affair, with beautiful photography and great design. There are some visual influences from Jacques Demy (most notably an overhead shot of multi-coloured umbrellas) and more overtly in the circus scenes Moulin Rouge, although thankfully the musical numbers are much better shot than Luhrman's effort, and without resorting to excessive ADDS editing. Peter Kam's songs may occasionally sound a little odd to Western ears (although the HK DVD thankfully subtitles the lyrics, a rarity in musicals), but they're surprisingly impressive and memorable, and for the most part well-served by the cast. Kaneshiro may have the face of an angel but he also has the singing voice of Lee Marvin, although since his songs aren't written for a trained voice that's not a major problem. However, Jacky Cheung is quite a revelation to anyone only aware of his work as an actor - not only does he have the strongest voice among the cast, but its the one that puts the real emotional power into his numbers. Its appeal to Western audiences is probably limited to fans of Wong Kar-Wei's brand of morally compromised romanticism, although this is not as exhilarating or daring as the best of Wong, it has more than enough imagination and emotional resonance of its own to make it well worth checking out.

Extras on the 2-disc special edition are making of documentary, 2 Bollywood Dancers clips, 2 music montages, B-roll footage, teaser trailer and full theatrical trailer - all in unsubtitled Chinese. The feature has good English subtitles.

    4 out of 5 stars decent collection.......2003-11-20

I don't actually own the box set, but i know enough about the movies. Combined, they do make a semi good set, but i imagine it would be hard to find someone who doesn't own a single one of these movies already, so i kinda find the box set useless unless theres more to it then they reveal.

'The Banger Sisters' 2 out of 5 stars - I saw it, it was okay, but i don't really want to see it again so i wouldn't buy it. It is one of the 2 movies in this set that i DON'T own, and it would stop me from buying this set. I think A Walk In The Clouds would have been a much better 6th disc.

'Ever After' 5/5 - I love this movie, it's sweet, romantic and takes a good take on a classic. It's great acting, it sticks to Cinderella in many ways, but makes it more interesting then most versions. (including the Disney animated version which i also love)

'Moulin Rouge' 5/5 - My second fav movie of all time. It's great, it's unique in many many ways, and it's just all around brillant. The only problem here is that the box set says it's 6 disc, so i'm asuming that it is not the special edition of Moulin Rouge, which if you are a fan of the movie is worth the extra money.

'Say Anything' 5/5 - Classic love story, possibly one of the best romantic comedy high school flick ever. And the DVD is jammed pack full of enough extras that it almost makes up for the single disk version of Moulin Rouge for most people (not including me)

'Someone Like You' 5/5 - This one is pretty good, it's cute, it's funny, and the way it's told is great. Ashley Judd is brillant in it, and Hugh Jackman is so cute. And the ending is way better then the ending to the book (Animal Husbandry by Laura Zigman) tho the book is really good.

'Where The Heart is' 4/5 - I don't have this one DVD yet, but it is on my list, and i do own the VHS tape. It's cute, a lil slow at parts tho. (Just a update, i do own it on DVD now)

Anyhow, if i didn't own 4 out of the 6 already, with #5 on my list to buy, i still wouldn't buy this based on the above stated about The Banger Sisters and Moulin Rouge. But it is a fairly well put together box set that would be a good present or a gift to ones self.
