The Dark Half
Although it lacks the creepy subtleties of Stephen King's celebrated novel, George Romero's underrated adaptation of The Dark Half ranks among the best films based on King's fiction, with Romero taking care to honor King's central theme while serving up some gruesome gore in the film's much-criticized finale. Inspired by King's own admission that he wrote several novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Dark Half explores the duality of a writer's impulse, ranging from literary respectability to the viscerally cathartic thrills of exploitative pulp fiction. Author and teacher Thad Beaumont (Timothy Hutton) finds himself torn between those extremes when he "kills" his profitable, pseudonymous alter ego George Stark (the bestselling "dark half" to Thad's light), who then assumes an evil, autonomous form (again played by Hutton) to lethally defend his role in Thad's creative endeavors. Forced to wrestle with this evil manifestation of his own unformed twin, Thad must fight to protect his wife (Amy Madigan), their twin babies, and his own survival as an artist. Romero skillfully develops the twin/duality theme to explore the writer's dilemma, and Hutton is outstanding in his dual roles, playing Stark (in subtly fiendish makeup) as a redneck rebel with a knack for slashing throats. Julie Harris adds class in a supporting role, and horror fans will relish Romero's climactic showdown, in which swarms of sparrows seal Stark's fate. It favors a pulp sensibility with clunky exposition to explain Stark's existence, but The Dark Half is a laudable effort from everyone involved. --Jeff Shannon

Needful Things
Stephen King adaptations are strictly hit-or-miss propositions, and this supernatural thriller from 1993 is definitely a "miss," based on one of King's lesser novels and starring Max von Sydow as the evil proprietor of a small-town antique shop named "Needful Things." That's the place where anyone can go to find the one thing they cherish the most (the town's aging jock finds his old, high-school letterman's jacket there, for example), but of course there's a price for such priceless keepsakes. Yep, that's right ... von Sydow is Satan, and his customers pay for "needful things" with their souls. The sheriff (Ed Harris) catches onto this hellish predicament, and, well ... let's just say things go downhill from there, with von Sydow delivering sardonic wisecracks as he wreaks devilish havoc on the town. Lots of stuff gets blown to bits, by which time this movie has long since worn out its welcome. Harris and von Sydow do their best to liven up the dreary scenario (directed by Charlton Heston's son, Fraser), but this is strictly for die-hard King fans, and even then the recommendation is marginal. --Jeff Shannon

Carrie
This terrifying adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel was directed by shock maestro Brian De Palma for maximum, no-holds-barred effect. Sissy Spacek stars as Carrie White, the beleaguered daughter of a religious kook (Piper Laurie) and a social outcast tormented by her cruel, insensitive classmates. When her rage turns into telekinetic powers, however, school's out in every sense of the word. De Palma's horrific climax in a school gym lingers forever in the memory, though the film is also built upon Spacek's remarkable performance and Piper Laurie's outlandishly creepy one. John Travolta has a small part as a thug, De Palma's future wife, Nancy Allen, is his girlfriend, and Amy Irving makes her screen debut as one of the girls giving Carrie a hard time. --Tom Keogh

An good set for the most part. Three of these movies are excellent and those films (Carrie, Misery, and The Dark Half) do justice to their books. Tha last one, however (Needful Things) is just a butchered mess. Just buy this for the three good films and junk the bad one.

Mixed bag of classics and also rans.......2005-12-31

While this set doesn't include all the best films made from King's novels, at least two of these are absolute classics. "Misery" is available here as a full and widescreen presentation. The image quality is decent here but it could look a whole lot better. There aren't any notable special features which is too bad--in the UK and Europe this has been released as a "Special Edition" with commentary by Director Rob Reiner and Writer William Goldman.

"Carrie" is the "Special Edition" released a couple of years back. The anamorphic widescreen presentation looks extremely good. This edition features "Acting Carrie" a very good documentary with Stars Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving and others. We also get "Visualizing Carrie" a documentary featuring Brian DePalma discussing his approach to the film. "Carrie: The Musical" a featurette on the disasterous Broadway version. Finally there's background on Stephen King and his novel as well as an animated photo gallery with behind-the-scenes photos. There's no commentary track from DePalma or any of the stars.

"The Dark Half" had much promise but George Romero's film of King's novel doesn't quite live up to its potential. Still, the film has its moments unfortunately this full screen presentation of the film doesn't do it justice. There's no extra features to speak of and the transfer is so-so and the film really would benefit from a widescreen presentation and commentary track by Romero.

"Needful Things" always felt over-the-top to me. It has a fine screenplay by W. D. Richter ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Stealth") but Fraser Heston's direction seems intent on proving his chops as a director at the expense of the story. The transfer is pretty good here as well. A couple of terrific performances highlight the movie including the late J.T. Walsh, Max Von Sydow, Ed Harris. Despite the potential here "Needful Things" just misses the mark despite an excellent cast and production design.

So I'd give five stars to "Carrie" and "Misery"; two stars for "The Dark Half" and "Needful Things". It's a pity that this set just repackages previous releases and doesn't have another disc of extras. This is a economic way to get all four films if you must have them but, really, only two of these films are essential.

Good value, light on features.......2005-08-10

This collection is pretty good, but there really were no special features. Good value if you are a Stephen King fan and are just in it for the films themselves.

Great Stephen King movies.......2005-06-29

Movies derived from Stephen King's novels range from excellent (THE SHINING) to excremental films like Dreamcatcher. This DVD Collector Set has 4 of the greatest adaptations of Stephen King's impressive novels. MISERY (1990) is a top-notch thriller and one of the best that has ever been made. Psychological thrillers are the best of the genre thanks to an Oscar-winning performance from Kathy Bates as the obsessed fan. Set in the deserted part of America, moody and lethargic Stephen King delivers great human suffering, vanished and broken on the borders of true hell, ran by obsessed woman. James Caan is Paul Sheldon, an author who kills off his popular literary character Misery. Problem is, Annie Wilkes (Bates) reads his heroin-offing book, and goes a little crazy... The ankle-breaking scene is excruciating, and the final brutal fight between Caan and Bates is vicious. Like the excellent SECRET WINDOW, an obsessed fan getting a little too fanatical with the author's stories is a re-occurring theme. Everything in the film is absolutely great: acting, script, directing and a chilly musical score from Mark Shaiman.

THE DARK HALF (1993) is a movie with an implausible plot, but is executed very well. In fact, it's done so well that you end up forgetting how implausible it is. So if you postpone your disbelief a little, chances are you'll like it. Horror master George A. Romero handles the suspense very professionally, but above all, Timothy Hutton's acting is the stand out of the film. His portrayal of Southern madman (ghost) George Stark is intense and will make you thinks of straight razors in a whole new light. Not a horror classic, but original and it does get a few scares out of you. The Stephen King book was better, but the film does a surprisingly good job of adapting it. NEEDFUL THINGS (1993) is a fascinating story of a mysterious old man (Max von Sydow) who opens a novelty shop in a sleepy little Maine town. He has something that everyone wants, but wants something in return from everyone. Simple currency has little allure for this devilish merchant. He feeds off hate and carnage, and uses the simple townsfolk to carry out his desires. CARRIE is possibly the best King adaptation, and one of the most faithful. The problem with some movies derived from his novels, is that some inept directors norse up the source material by changing too much. But thankfully Brian DePalma gets this just right. Sissy Spacek turns in a great performance and John Travolta started his acting career in 1976 in his first movie. Put together with MISERY and DARK HALF, this is a very impressive collection of King movies and a must-have for horror buffs.

King best movies.......2003-07-15

These are some of the best movies that are based from Stephen King novels. Carrie is a movie that any Stephen King fan must own. To have it on a box set with Misery is best. Dalf Half is also pretty good. For most who haven't seen it is about thee other half of the writter and how it can take control when it feels threaten. Needful things is a movie that goes beyond horror and teaches people a lesson. These are a few of Stephen King best movies. Which fans must own to have a true King's Collection.

2 great DVDs!, but be aware..........2005-08-25

that they have both been issued separately, so avid Joni-watchers may inadvertently re-buy thinking this is new stuff. If they are new to you though, you will not be disappointed. The PBS special fills in a lot of history for those of us who weren't in the music scene in the late 60s and the soundstage concert is filled with great music and many special moments. Enjoy!

Two Awesome DVDs.......2005-01-12

This release pairs the long awaited Joni Mitchell biography from PBS American Masters "Woman of Heart And Mind" (2003) with the 1998 soundstage concert video "Painting With Words and Music". Both are excellent, and a must have for lovers of Joni's music.

Beautiful.......2007-05-18

Beautiful movie, opulent costumes and backdrops. Aishwarya looks stunning and all the actors give great performances. Lovely to watch!

It's obvious that Umrao Jaan is the center of attention throughout the movie (it basically revolves around her) but I feel it's at the expense of other characters that I wish would have been covered in more depth as they were also interesting characters in their own right. This could have easily been done while keeping Umrao Jaan in the limelight.

A few minor glitches:

I found a bit silly was how a feared and infamous dacoit like Faiz Ali could ever be careless enough to lose his weapon, and/or would fail to have another weapon handy if such an incident did occur.

The second half does move a bit slow and lose momentum and the end was a little anticlimactic.

Other than that, an enjoyable film.

A great love story of times...a true classic...!.......2007-01-22

Umrao Jaan had great potential to become one of the renowned classics of the world cinema, had the screenwriter and the director had the foresight to know when to end the movie.

The plot had all the tools of a successful story, well told, superbly acted both by Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachchan. They excelled themselves once more, projecting a great love, that never went stale nor it lost its intensity of passion. The essence of the movie was a love story that ended in tragedy and it should have never turned into a life story. When the couple parted and she returned home, to the brothel in Lucknow that should have been the end, for anything that came after that was anticlimactic and only tried the patience of the audience.

A movie should only have one great climax scene, and that came with the crisis when Nawab Sultan disowned her. Resolution should have followed immediately. We know that her life as we knew it ended there and possibly she became a living corpse. So why digress, diluting the effect of the climax adding another crisis scene, such as the rejection of her family?

We all know that in a society that public affection is forbidden even to this day it is obvious that she could not go home again, so why bother to show it? And the purpose of the last wedding scene where she performed escaped me. If it was to add another song it just served to bore the viewers.

J.P. Dutta will be wise to edit the ending of the movie, making it shorter, and release it again for the sake of saving a great piece of art from permanent oblivion.

This film is quite possibly Aishwarya Rai's greatest performance. She easily holds this film together in the title role and lends an enormous dignity to the character of Umrao Jaan. She wonderfully translates the feeling of a woman who just can't fight her fate. Beautiful piece of cinema.

Totally Underrated.......2007-01-12

This movie was amazing. Aishwarya did a wonderful job as Umrao Jaan! Its sad that this movie did not get what it deserved at the box office- this is one of the most underrated movies. The story is a classic, so you know that there will be no flaw there- the movie lies in the acting and songs- which are amazing. Aishwarya gave an outstanding performance, the movie was very beautiful (the colors and sets are gorgeous). Aishwarya looked stunning in this movie.
This movie is one of the best bollywood movies!

Popeye DVD.......2007-05-07

I noticed some of the reviews were mixed. Well, my kids LOVED this DVD. They loved it so much, I had to hide the DVD in order to take a break from Popeye and his friends. Yes, the clarity isn't perfect, however, it by all means is not dismal. I saw nothing wrong with the clairty and I can honestly say that my kids wouldn't care if there was a problem. They just want to see what silly thing Popeye is up to next. I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who loves Popeye or wants to introduce their kids to Popeye of yesteryear.

Popeye 75th Anniversary DVD Set.......2007-02-10

My girls,ages 2 and 5 loved these old Popeye cartoons,especially the 5 year old who sat mezmerized ! As for my opinion...the cartoons brought back a host of happy childhood memories,and it was kind of comforting to hear the Popeye theme song in the living room !

Popeye The Sailor Man.......2006-07-15

At last a DVD collection that shows Popeye at his best. This brought back a lot of memories from when I was an avid watcher of his cartoons on TV. My only negative comment is I wish there was at least another Disc to this Popeye tribute. This is one for you to sit down and watch with your children, grandchildren or both. I only hope that a Volume Two is in the works like the Looney Tunes Volume 1, 2 and 3. The commentaries also offer another insight to the spinach eating hero.

Some of the best..............2005-10-20

Cartoons produced are in this DVD. I join other reviewers that lament the exclusion of the very best of the Popeye series; namely the great black and whites that the Fleischer studios produced in the 1930's. Those early cartoons are what made Popeye a name to be feared by all would be bad guys. The fight scenes are hilarious as is the dialog among the actors. I never was endeared to the Famous Studios renderings. They were made for younger audiences and don't have the ability to hold the attention of general movie goers. Perhaps we'll see the really good stuff appear someday. In the meantime there is no better collection of the battling old spinach eater available so go ahead and enjoy this DVD set.

The best popeye DVD!.......2005-05-19

Before this one you could't really say there was a good popeye DVD around but all that has changed, popeye fans can't miss this one!

Horror Horrible!.......2007-03-08

The recording quality on these movies is absolutely terrible, much worse than VHS. Very fuzzy with what I would call "digital pixels" at times. Aside from the poor recording quality, I discovered after sitting through nearly an hour and a half of one of the movies that the ending had been omitted! I have almost made it through the first disc. What a disappointment this set has been.

the collectors edition the 50 movies was very awful and unwatchable the pictures kept messing up but the sound was good they have good movies title but you cant watch the pictures

ok for the price this set is good,but if you own many of these 50 movie packs check out what's on them because a lot of these are on oyer sets. if you don't own one then get this one i think you'll like it.

Terrible.......2007-06-28

All the karate BS in this movie really made me want to throw up in my mouth. The slow motion action seens are so gay and cliched that I became enfuriated that I spent my money on this. Why oh why?

Better than I remembered........2007-06-21

I remember when this film was first released. I didn't get a chance to see this film in theaters nor did I really care to. I had seen the first M:I, and although I thought it was a fairly decent film, I didn't think it was anything to brag about. When I saw previews for M:I-2, it really had me at confusion. The film didn't seem to resemble anything of the first film. While the first one was more targeted towards adults, this one was clearly aiming for a younger audience. Naturally, I thought this movie was going to be dumb and that is exactly what I thought when I finally saw it. I was 13 yrs old, I really did not understand anything that was going on-just something about a disease and all the action scenes that were already overplayed in the tons of commercials I saw for the movie. After I saw it, I told everybody from that point on to ignore this one.

That was back in 2001. Its 2007 and I am now 19 yrs old. M:I-3 has now been made which I thought was an incredibly awesome movie. Not that long ago one of my friends and I were having a conversation about all sorts of movies. We just happened to come accross this one. I told him how M:I and M:I-3 were really good, and M:I-2 was bad. He on the other hand admitted that he actually liked the 2nd one. Seeing is how it was yrs since I saw M:I-2, I didn't really remember much except what I mentioned above. So I started checking up on it again. I saw the trailer on youtube and to my surprise, it looked pretty good. Not long afterwards, the movie came on TNT. Obviousely I watched and surprisingly enough, I enjoyed Very Much!! While it does not live up to M:I-3, it definetly earned a spot on my favorite movies list. Here's the plot.

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is called into action when a fellow IMF agent Sean Ambrose (Douggray Scott) has gone rogue. Ambrose has stolen a deadly biologically engineered virus known as Chimera, a virus that kills your red blood cells if infected. There is a cure called Valeraphon which can only save a persons if treated within 20 years. However, after 20 hours, nothing can save. Hunt with the help a thief, Nyah Nordaf Hall (Thandie Newton) they must infiltrate and find out what Ambrose's plans are for the virus. Hunt must also at the same time dig deeper into discovering the truth about why this disease was created in the first place.

That basically says it. Just to add a few more things, although I actually like this movie now, I stil believe its the weakest of the M:I's. It surprises me very much that of all of them, this was grossed the most money. I think the real problem with this film is the very fact that it tries too hard to be "cool". First lets start off with the ridiculous concepts- Tom Cruise rock climbing with no gear except powder for his hands, his mission being assigned through sunglasses, the car chase with Thandie Newton (there was no suspense and the characters appear to be having fun). Then theres the action scenes. I know John Woo has his style but I think it was a bit overdone. Too many quick cuts and overuse of explosions. Then theres all the rock music in the film, I do not think that was necessary. And then there's Tom Cruise's look with the long wavy hair. I really think his hair was like that to make this movie seem "cool". I am sure the original M"I series would never have had these elements. I really think this film would have been alot better if it were its own movie rather than an M:I. Well anyway, I still suggest. But if anyone has a chance, definetly check out M:I-3. THAT ONE WAS FRIGGIN AWESOME

As others have mentioned, there was no Mission Impossible Team, except for Ving Rhames, and Anthony Hopkins, the boss, (Interesting, we got to see the face that goes with the voice on the tape that introduces the case.)

I thought the worst was the agonizing slow motion flips and kicks (often while shooting a gun in midair, upside down).

I was watching this on TV recently after having seen it only once before when it first came out and it dawned on me that it has the same basic storyline as Hitchcock's Notorious with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman (1946). But the result is vastly different. Notorious doesn't rely on high-tech props or unbelievable stunts - just pure good acting and suspense like only Hitchcock can do it.

I think it took me two seeing to realize how yucky this movie was; there was so much that was wrong. I think the first thing that we notice is that this is not about the Impossible Mission Force, but Tom Cruise. So, aside form the name, the music, and the jargon, this has nothing to do with the classic show.

This was a let-down. Leonard Nemoy in "I Am Spock" mentioned that he loved the teamwork aspect of the series. I agree: there was something about Mr. Phelps and the IMF all piling into the getaway van and the classic Mission: Impossible recessional theme that let you know that there was a job well done because each member did his part. Like the guy said, "The greatest temporal and spiritual blessings which always come from faithfulness and concerted effort, never attended individual exertion or enterprise."

Another problem was the physics. The cycle-jousting forgets that when two objects traveling at 50 mph a piece collide, the cumulative force felt by them is not 50, but 100 mph. Talk about being jelly! And the gun in the sand: how does kicking it forward make it go one and half meters vertically into the air?

This film has plot, in the sense of having action, or a series of events. But did I mention the plot holes? How did Cruise happen to have a Richard Roxburgh mask so handy? I guess it was next to the handy duct tape. And how did they change clothes so quickly?

Yes, there is conflict: Cruise versus the Aussie, and Cruise versus the supermodel supertheif. The theme is not so obvious. There are messages about courage, duty, and self sacrifice. These are helpful, but seem to be mere distracting tinsel.

Being John Woo, this film is essentially about style. This is good for artists who have plot, theme, and characterization, and would like to perfect their craft. As a standalone attribute, however, this film leaves something to be desired. Anyone who has been on a date knows that looks only go so far. And the same applies to movies.

John Mayall's DVD.......2007-04-03

I am an vinyl collector with a wide slice of music history. I was a little worried about if he would be at his best on this DVD as he has had numerous lineups in his career, most were very good but some were not. This DVD is beyond very good since for the most part it is a "jam" of excellent talent. So much of music heard is "singer/star dominated "songs", but on this DVD this great bandleader gives everyone a chance to come alive.

Double Your Pleasure.......2005-09-20

If there ever was an "essential" John Mayall DVD, then the 70th Birthday Concert (Collector's Edition) has to be it. When I threw this in for the first time after it arrived, I sat transfixed as I took in the spectacular extravaganza that Mayall's birthday occasioned. Not only is his current lineup on hand, but a couple of alumni from past incarnations of the Bluesbreakers join in to make this DVD one to remember.
For me, the highlights are Southside Story, Dirty Water, Blues For The Lost Days, Walking On Sunset, Oh Pretty Woman, Hideaway, All Your Love, Have You Heard, and I'm Tore Down.
Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor return to contribute some guitar pyrotechnics, but long-time Mayall guitarist Buddy Whittington more than holds his own. Joe Yuele shows the world why he has been Mayall's drummer for so many years with his faultless play and Tom Canning turns in inspired performances on organ and piano. And what about Mayall himself? Well, he can play so many instruments and with such virtuosity, its hard to say what he's best at. The songs covered range from ones originally done in the sixties to some recorded in the last five years. The way everything came together so seamlessly, you'd think these guys had rehearsed this for months!
I recommend the Collector's Edition over the straight DVD. For a couple bucks extra, you double your pleasure. With the Collector's Edition, you get an abbreviated version of the concert on CD that you can listen to anytime you can't get to your big screen. It makes great cruising music. My favorites on the CD are Dirty Water, Walking On Sunset, Hideaway, Have You Heard, plus a real bonus that isn't on the concert DVD; a fine rendition of California
This is going to remain high in my rotation at home and on the road for months. If you like the music of John Mayall, then you should be thrilled by the way it comes alive here. Order it now!

This dvd turned out to be one of my favorites in my collection,and I have many.John Mayall is truly a blues legend and a man of many talents.If your a blues fan, you will enjoy this one.Great sound,good camera work and great selection of songs.This is a keeper.

The Premature Loss Of A Musical Treasure.......2007-05-13

Little Milton Campbell was a very underrated Bluesman. He was often compared to B.B. King in both playing and singing style. However, Milton was much more an eclectic musician. He had a very diverse career and changed his style many times- trying to keep up with the times (not many Blues musicians ever did that!) For one thing, like the late Albert King, he could blend the Blues with other music, especially Soul. This is why he recorded for Stax Records. Little Milton had a long career which, like so many people, began at Sun Records in Memphis. He had one of Chess Records only Number 1 hits in 1965 with "We're Gonna Make It". Then he moved on in the Soul Era to Stax Records. The compilation recently released as "Stax Profiles" on Milton is also very good and contains his most famous Stax tune "That's What Love Will Make You Do" where he displays a solo with his famous hand damping technique, which he also does during this DVD concert.

Little Milton, like so many of our dwindling Blues Originals (great Chicago Bluesman John Brim has also recently died), has left very little footage behind. This is such a shame! This DVD is Milton's only recorded concert! The previous reviewer is very lucky to have been there indeed! And what foresight on behalf of the Festival to record it as well. Little Milton is also featured in the DVD "Blues Story" and has a great input in it, but no performance. His highlight is in the Stax Concert "Soul Comes Home" with Jimmie Vaughan. He is introduced by Vaughan as "My favourite Blues singer". And the performance is a highlight of the night.

This DVD is what it says "His Last Concert". It has to get 5 stars for its historical value. The band is small and the backing quality is variable. Little Milton comes out standing and does two Soul tunes to open up "Still Some Meat Left On The Bone" and the Homer Banks tune "Just One Moment" (Homer has also passed away he also wrote Albert King's classic "Angel Of Mercy" at Stax). After picking up the guitar and experiencing a bit of tuning problems (it is very interesting that they left this in!!!) he continues with "I Don't Believe in Ghosts" and a Medley of tunes including "Walking The Backstreets and Crying" (written by Sandy Jones, another Stax staff writer who wrote "Laundromat Blues" and "I'll Play The Blues For You"). But in this case he changes the words a bit.

The set ends with the humourous "My Dog And Me" and the famous Blues anthem "The Blues Is Alright". However, the highlight, to me, is "I Wouldn't take Nothing For Your Love". Good lenght 10 minutes with good solos and groove. Milton had a very interesting guitar style. He played, like so many from the early 1960s, a Gibson ES-335 and used a lot of major pentatonic scales, like B.B. King did, in his playing- but his hand damping techniques and use of diminished scales and notes made his style jazzier and very interesting. His voice is similar to B.B. with its church inspired Gospel tone, but Milton does not "shout" much and really has a more soulful approach in his vocals.

This DVD is a must have for Blues fans. I would recommend that one watch it twice the day you get it. The first viewing may seem a bit disjointed and the out of tune section may put some people off a bit. But on second and subsequent viewings it doesn't matter. This is a really great, important and historical addition to one's Blues DVD collection.

The title says it all, The last Little Milton performance.......2007-04-11

I was at the North Atlantic Blues Festival on the dreary, rainy Saturday when Little Milton closed the day's performances with a solidperformance opening with him taking the mike and belting out a few songs before picking up his guitar for the last two-thirds of the set. Milton was in wonderful form doing a mix of songs from his lengthy career closing with the rouusing "The Blues is All Right."
The video captures the performance in a simple straightforward fashion, focusing on Milton and his band with the cameras occasionally surveying the audience, but never straying from its focus on Little Milton.
Looking at how vigorous Little Milton was that afternoon, you may understand my shock when I heard about his stroke-heart attack a few days later and his death less than a month after this wonderful performance. I was fortunate to be there but wish it was not the Last Concert.

You will LOVE this series.......2004-10-19

OMG. i saw this and it totally blew me away. first off, nearly everybody dies!! When chidori died, i cried so much!! its just...the way she died was so sad. she dies right there in Yuhi's arms..*sniff* this second half of the series was way darker than the first. well, the whole series is pretty dark anyways. i was also kinda sad that shuro only had a short apperiance. the manga had shuro as a way more improtant character. they killed off her character too. it was also sad that well.... i wouldnt want to give away the ending, but ill just tell you that there is lots of blood!! to much killing on the second disk in this package. but its still really good, so go get it and see what i mean!!

Okay, let's just start out with this. Yu Watase is my absolute favorite Manga writer of all time. She has a box but her stories are always too big to fit inside. Ceres Celestial Legend (or Ayashi no Ceres) is an incredible and creative series. When I got this, I had already read the first half of the manga. It starts on the episode: The Holy Relic of the Mikages. Wonderful episode. The discs have 12 episodes which may make it seem like a rip-off, at between 45 and 50 dollars. But believe me, it's worth it. The series has two big downfalls. The english dubs, and the blood. I got a little tired of red. I definitely recommend watching the series in Japanese. They just take away so much of the emotion in the english version. Blood is in nearly every episode, especially towards the end. The story cancels out the blood though, so does the animation. Yet again, the art is beautiful. (*tear* I wish I could draw like that!) The story is about Aya Mikage who happens to be the reincarnation of a revenge bent celestial maiden (Ceres). Her story unfolds in the first six manga (I dunno about the first 12 eps.). There is NO similarity between it and Sailor Moon! Be warned. The manga is a bit different. The anime starts in volume 5 and to all appearances, skips six. They might've covered it in the first one, I don't know. But this is a must at least read for any Yu Watase fan! I definitely would recommend this to anyone who likes celestial maidens, reincarnation, hot guys, um... blood (you don't have to like it, but it would probably make the series flawless.), and beautiful animation and plots.

Sad...and Happy Love Story.......2004-01-13

IF you are a fan of Yu Watase...then you will love Ceres Celestial Legend!! The ending is not what you would expect. Ceres is still looking for her Mana so she can return to heaven...and the other charaters just grow on you. Yuhi still loves Aya and Aya still loves Toya and he finally finds out his past!! If you bought the collector's edition volume 1...then don't wait to buy the 2nd edition!!! You will definately Cry!!

i bought this dvd.....because mainly i wanted to know what happend at the end of the series.....cause i already know what happens in the begining.

and well let me tell u ....it was awsome totally worth the money...some things u wont expect to happen, happens.

the only downfall i would say is that there is way WAY too much blood.

it was like every episode...BLOOD!!!

oh well...it was an awsome story none the less....romance...action.....and mysterious plots.
