In addition to being saddled with an unruly foster teen (Keke Palmer, The Wool Cap), Madea has two troubled nieces: Lisa (Rochelle Aytes, White Chicks), who's engaged to an abusive and controlling investment banker (Blair Underwood, Something New); and Vanessa (Lisa Arrindell Anderson, The Second Chance), who can't open herself to the affection of a bus driver/artist (Boris Kodjoe, The Gospel) because of childhood abuse. Wreaking havoc on both of their lives is their mother Victoria (Lynn Whitfield, Eve's Bayou, in delirious wicked witch mode). Like Madea's previous outing, Madea's Family Reunion may induce mental whiplash--the movie zips from a discussion of flatulence to a jazz-backed poetry reading to domestic violence (Underwood, perhaps eager to leave his bland good-guy image behind, is genuinely scary), or from an act of horrific revenge to a staggeringly gaudy wedding. Though schizophrenic and morally questionable (beating an adult women is clearly wrong, but whipping a child with a belt in the name of tough love is apparently good), the movie is definitely unpredictable and never dull. Perfect "chick flick". It makes you laugh, then you get mad, then you cry, then you're happy again. The movie makes fun of some old worn out sterotypes, then it breaks them by showing people who are more true to life than people's perceptions.

Perfect to the very end. I rarely like a movie well enough to purchase it. I'm so glad I bought this one.

After seeing Diary of a Mad Black woman, I decided to give this movie a spin and I'm glad I did. The number one thing I'm surprised by is Perry's deep subject matters and at the heart of his message about the power of forgiveness. This is not some hammy Lawrence movie like Big Momma's house. It's a drama and a comedy and I don't think it was unbalanced at all. Whenever things get too serious, Madea would show up and deliver the message with a laugh. For me it was great to see Cicely Tyson, Dr. Maya Angelou and Lynn Whitfield working together. Perry has found a good thing and I wish him nothing but continue success. Highly Recommended.

    I was really impressed and pleased with the fact that the Madea role was still true to form. I thought that being a movie would take away the real Madea role. But it didn't!!! Super. I really enjoyed it.

    We live out in the midwest, so when we saw this movie, we were struck by the style and elements this movie captured for not only Black Americans, but other minorities as well [including all of you of European ancestry, who don't think you have a culture too]. It was funny, but it has elements of pride in it about black people, that shows the value system and familial relationships that are tribal and beautiful. The scenes about the elders were breathtaking. They brought the women elders, grandmothers and great grandmothers into the circle at the family reuntion. Cecily Tyson and Maya Angelou added so much. I am pleased to recommend this movie, and you will be delightfully surprised, as we were. Your children should definitely watch it because we aren't aren't paying attention to our elders or doing things that include "Ceremony" to welcome our sacred children into our families.

    This is a wonderful,well written family movie. Admire Tyler Perry's GOD given talent very much. However, I will not order anything else from Amazon. Amazon mislead people by stating it was 2006 and Lynn Whitfield was in this DVD. Since then Amazon has change the ad, prior to they sold many DVD's under a false ad. Again the movie is fantastic.

    I saw the play a few years ago and I thought it was wonderful. I have seen all of Madea's plays and Tyler Perry did very well in this one. I would advise anyone who loves great entertainment to get the play.

    I watched the movie this weekend and it's wonderful. It's a little different from the play, but it is still wonderful. It will make you laugh, cry, get angry and happy. That's a great movie.

    It's a must buy and 'go see'.

    I love Tyler Perry's play but I this wasn't as entertaing as the rest of his plays. I know theres probably two versions and I hope the second is better. On "Class Reunion", Tyler said that this taping had alot drama. This probably is why he didn't put out such a good product. If you haven't seen any of his plays my suggestion see Class Reunion, I can do bad by myself, or The Browns.

    So far I've seen 3 of his plays including this one. The things I don't like about them are that they are over the top, full of stereo types about Black people and kind of long. What I do like about them are that the actors are tremendous singers and there is always a very good message to these stories. I've seen a lot of bootleg Tyler Perry DVD's out there ... since this is a Black man trying to build an empire, please support him by buying his plays from his website and not from black market resources.

    Madea's Family Reunion is, without a doubt, the funniest and most wonderful of Tyler Perry's works. I have all of the DVD's, but this is the one I just can't get enough of - even after having watched it for two years! The entire cast is truly excellent, and it becomes apparent just WHY at the end when they are all introduced. Most of the key players are high-powered professionals in the entertainment field. That's what I like about Tyler Perry - his ability to write, direct, and star in a play and pick fantastic talent to complement the work. In particular, the performances of David Mann and Tamela, D'Atra Hicks, and Gary Jenkins really soar. What voices! What songs! But the real delight is Madea herself. Tyler Perry is a true comic genius. Madea's lines are delivered with such sincerity and wit that you almost forget Madea is really Perry. The verbal battles between Madea and Brown will have you rolling on the floor, holding your sides from laughter. Be Prepared to laugh - A LOT ! ! ! !

    Perfect "chick flick". It makes you laugh, then you get mad, then you cry, then you're happy again. The movie makes fun of some old worn out sterotypes, then it breaks them by showing people who are more true to life than people's perceptions.

    After seeing Diary of a Mad Black woman, I decided to give this movie a spin and I'm glad I did. The number one thing I'm surprised by is Perry's deep subject matters and at the heart of his message about the power of forgiveness. This is not some hammy Lawrence movie like Big Momma's house. It's a drama and a comedy and I don't think it was unbalanced at all. Whenever things get too serious, Madea would show up and deliver the message with a laugh. For me it was great to see Cicely Tyson, Dr. Maya Angelou and Lynn Whitfield working together. Perry has found a good thing and I wish him nothing but continue success. Highly Recommended.
