Described rather astutely as "The Laurel and Hardy of Danish electro pop," Junior Senior's "D-D-Don't Stop the Beat" is the coolest thing to come out of Denmark since Lego. Already huge in Scandinavia, the JS sound (think the Cramps, the B-52's, and Wham! in some gloriously incongruous pile-up) can't fail to paint a smile on the hardest of cynic's face. Fittingly their debut is full of perversely mad pop songs, referenced to the hilt and none too complex in production; for sheer goofy charm and jump-around madness, it's hard to beat. "Chicks and Dicks," an ode to misguided sexual attention, rocks along to 60s beach guitar and surfin' harmonies, while "Move Your Feet" is the sound of Fatboy Slim body-popping to "Club Tropicana." At turns clever, irreverent, and maddeningly catchy, this is a record from Denmark that other countries will want to listen to. --Paul Tierney

3 out of 5 stars better than you would think.......2006-08-21

this is a weird cd b/c it is so hard to categorize. It is danceable, dorky, gay overtoned, cheesy, bubble gummish yet, it actually rocks! There's even cool, fuzzed out guitar all over it.

It cannt be for the dance crowd b/c of the cool guitar and references to 70's punk acts.

could it appeal to rockers? It is very danceable, makes you want to jump around your car while listening to it.

Is it for the gay crowd only? I don't think so b/c there is a call for girls.

Is it top 40 trash? No, it is too damn inventive!

"Coconuts" and "move your feet" are actually cool rock songs!

I think, what the other reviewer said, is true. This is danceable Cramps/Ramones/B-52/60's garage band music.

In conclusion, since it is difficult to be categorized, that means they are more original, less derivative and therefore this is a thumbs up cd.

It has great cross over appeal since it does rock, groove, twange and is very catchy. This is the ultimate guilty pleasure cd!

3 out of 5 stars catchy, but borderline obnoxious.......2006-01-25

I've heard Junior Senior put on quite a show live, and it's easy to imagine while listening to this frenetic set, but just like conversations can come across as banal or simplistic when transcribed, "D-D-Don't Don't" definitely stutters, occasionally snagged in its own groove, with some "umm" and "y'know" peppering the mix as well. Still, while JS has some maturing to do before it reaches the level of a powerhouse like Basement Jaxx, there are standouts at least worth a download while you wait. With "Move Your Feet," Junior Senior crafted the most contagious, overlooked dance gem of 2003. Reminiscent of the Jackson 5, Ohio Players and Sacramento's !!!, the song blazes in a roller disco sort of way. "Chicks and Dicks" channels a '50s girls band sound with a '60s guys garage band intensity. And "Shake Your Coconuts" has the oddly tasty distinction of sounding like Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley fronting KC & the Sunshine Band. Sadly, much of the rest of the album, I've determined after repeated listens, is either filler or musical experiments better to have been aborted. "D-D-Don't" comes across in the same vein as Bis' frenetic beast "New Transistor Heroes," like a kid on two gallons of soda in a fingerpainting competition. It's fun stuff but it's got no soul.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty decent dance music - definitely a guilty pleasure - 3.5 stars.......2005-12-30

Let it first be known that this album is VERY silly and cheesy. Don't listen to this expecting the next "Abbey Road." However, for the style of music that Junior Senior creates, it is pretty entertaining although kind of forgettable longterm (though there's an odd charm with some of the songs that make you like them, a sort of guilty pleasure). Unfortunately, the second track on the album, "Rhythm Bandits", has an EXTREMELY better single version than what's on the album which completely baffles me (it's one of my favorites by Junior Senior). Junior Senior is entirely about fun, and if you listen to it without that in mind then you'll be sorely disapointed. If you don't like pure fun and silly albums then you'll be disappointed. Not essential at all, but buy it if you are looking for a silly and dancy album or if you have nothing better to get.

Highlights include:
"Go Junior Go Senior"
"Move Your Feet"
"Shake Your Coconuts"
"Boy Meets Girl"
"Shake Me Baby"
"C'mon" (barely)
"Good Girl Bad Boy" (barely)
"Dynamite" (barely)

1 out of 5 stars AWFUL!!!!!!.......2005-09-25

Don't even buy this album if you wanna save money. This is the worst album of all time and you will be disappointed if you hear this album. Believe me. No other album can compete against this album. Not any other album on this Earth, not albums in 50's,60's or 70's. No decade. The only good song is "Don't Stop the Beat". The song "Who Are You Gonna Do Tonight" is just plan nasty. It sounds stupid at that. Mark my words do not get this album!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Yuck.......2005-08-15

Don't buy it, you'll regret it. I did. The title track is catchy for awhile. It eventually gets old. Besides, how cool can it be if VH1 used it in all their ads?
If you are looking for fun, unusual music to bring to a party, just to watch all the rap boys and girls freak out, purchase an album by The Soft Pink Truth. Their latest release "Do you want New Wave or do you want the Soft Pink Truth puts this watered down drizzle to shame.

5 out of 5 stars Music Of Every Genre..........2004-04-21

Junior Senior's album is outstanding.

They explore every genre of Rock and Roll music, with the Beach Boyish "Rhythm Bandits" to the poppy, bluesy "Shake Me Baby."

You'll love this album.

5 out of 5 stars SUPER!!.......2004-01-08

bahaha, this CD is fantastic! I wasn't too sure I'd like it, the only songs I'd heard were the singles but I LOVED it! it's a really funky happy CD that's great to pop into your CD player and have a good dance! Anyone with any taste in any music will love this cd!

BUY IT! NOW!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Carson Daly Show.......2003-08-25

Saw Junior Senior on the Carson Daly show the other night they were great. They seem to have this funky kinda Archie Bell and the Drells happy sound. The drums were abit different and the background girls seemed plan and funky. You have this intresting contrast of heavy guy and skinny guitarist offseting each other.I haven't listened to the whole cd yet but looking forward to picking it up at the local recod store later this week.

5 out of 5 stars Hot fun in the summertime.......2003-08-22

The soundtrack for summer/fall 2003? Sure could be.

Junior Senior, a brand new group from out of nowhere, display an incredibly refined sense of fun on their debut album. The Atari 2600 graphics in the music video for their first single, "Move Your Feet," show these guys are definitely aiming for something different. In the end, it ends up being different than anything else available as pop music right now - though it's not necessarily too innovative.

Great, danceable hooks are available in almost every song, and the singing can fool most listeners into thinking they're hearing native English speakers. Junior goes from sounding like Mick Jagger to a cross between the Beatles and Bob Dylan before the close of the album. A few songs made me go, "have I heard this before?"
A quick look at the behind-the-scenes QuickTime movie on the enhanced CD will clearly show these performances weren't one-take... but the live version of Move Your Feet at the end of the album demonstrates an outstanding stage presence. You will want to see these guys live after listening through the whole CD and hearing that last song.

The Explicit Lyrics sticker is very unnecessary... I heard them drop the f-bomb once, maybe twice if it was repeated in the song "White Trash." You could easily let the word sneak under your radar by the excessively loud, noisy, and overall trashy sounds of this track. If the title "chicks and dicks" angers you... then you're probably not the dancing type, anyway.

This album is just great fun. Nice, peppy music to get you started on a night out, or something to dance to beside some stranger you wanna-do-do-after-dark.

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!!!.......2003-08-07

This has to be one of the best CD's I've heard in recent memory. EVERY single track is well written, imaginitive, and just downright FUN!! Go pick this CD up NOW!! A splendid time is guaranted by all!

4 out of 5 stars If Da Beat Don't Stop, Da Rabeez Won't Stop!!!.......2005-02-19

For some reason, I can't view the single's tracklisting on this page, so I'll post it here:

      1) Beat Don't Stop [Radio Version]
      2) Make It Happen [Radio Version]
      3) Beat Don't Stop - Watch Dis (Revolution Clockwork Mix)
      4) Beat Don't Stop - Can't Stop The Revolution (Strictly Bananas Freestyle)
      5) Beat Don't Stop [Instrumental]
      6) Make It Happen [Instrumental]

I bought this single for my ever-growing Eminem & D12 collection, as tracks 1 - 4 feature D12 member "Swift" a.k.a. "Swifty McVay". I had heard track 3 before, as it was floating around the internet as an mp3 file. I didn't really pay much attention to it. Having bought this single, I though that I had to at least listen to it fully, and now, I can really see how talented Da Rabeez (Bareda a.k.a. Mr. Wrong + Swift a.k.a. Swifty McVay) are.

      1) The radio version is a track with completely re-written lyrics to make it profanity-free etc. I would give this track 4/5 stars because of it's lyrics. It's also nice to listen to as there aren't pauses all through the song like some radio versions have. Stand out line for me is "cut the line, get in free, free drinks if I want it", - Mr. Wrong.

      2) "Make It Happen" unfortionatley isn't my kind of song. "Beat Don't Stop" was underground rap lyrics with a well-produced hip-hop beat. "Make It Happen" is a bit too hip-hop for me. It's more the sort of track that you'd hear in a club or on a dance CD. 2.5/5

      3) Again, "Beat Don't Stop"'s lyrics and production on the radio version gave it 4 stars, but in this explicit version, some of wordplay and the metaphores that they use bring this track to 5/5 stars. Incredible track. Something else that I love about this track is the way that occasionally, in Mr. Wrong's verse, Swift will spit a line, and vice versa. This works very well at the beginning of the track: "[Mr. Wrong]: Scared to blink, I got your eyes open for days, [Swift]: They won't speak. [Mr. Wrong]: 'Cuz I'm in their nightmares scaring them. [Swift]: So don't sleep! [Mr. Wrong]: As I sit and wait for Swift. [Swift]: So watch dis! I gets deeper than..."

      4) A freestyle to the "Beat Don't Stop" beat. It's really nice to hear a rapper's freestyling ability as so many of the rappers in the game now can't do it. In 1997, Mr. Wrong and Swift still freestyle perfectly with ease, years after their battling days at Maurice Malone's hip-hop shop. Swift's first verse in this track is a stand-out for me, as he begins freestyling multi-syllablistically - something few rappers can do. Basically, instead of just rhyming the word at the end of the line, he rhymes lots of other words within the line too: "They call me Swift, Mr. Ass-Whipper, quick to flip a script after I sip your last liquor. Ain't you sick of a wack n****, now..."

In that line, he rhymes "whipper" with "flip a" and "liquor", and "Swift" with "script". The amazing thing is that he's making this up as he goes along. 5/5. Mr. Wrong's verse shows a lot of skill too.

      5) / 6) These are tracks with just the beats (instumentals) on them, so you could record a rap over them or use them for karaoke if you wanted to.

Overall, this 6 track single is very good for the money you pay and will be perfect for any rap or hip-hop fan. Didn't quite make 5 stars for me because of "Make It Happen" but that's not to say that others might not enjoy it. Well, I guess "If Da Beat Don't Stop, Da Rabeez Won't Stop"!!!

              Album Details

The Danish Band's Debut Offers a Mixed Bag of Psychedelia, Disco and Garage Rock. It's a Psychotic Mix that is as Invigorating as it is Exciting. They Aspire to Sing Like Nancy Sinatra, Play Like Stevie Wonder and have the Balls that the New York Dolls were Famous For, as Expounded on "White Trash". Just Dive in with Both Feet First and Grasp the Groove with this Minor Masterpiece of an Album!
