Best song ever heard.......2006-04-28
I was at TAO lounge at the Venetian Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas when I heard a song that swept my feet away. I had to ask the waitress and usually they don't like sharing the name of the albums they are playing. But she was nice enough after I promised her a nice tip for the name of the song that was playing. I bought this CD literaly for song No.7. Yachts - AMCA VS CSL on the first disk. Try to listen to it by using Windows media player or Real but not Amazon own player because it messed up the song with another one. I aslo recommend greatly The Best of Claude Challe and Karunesh Call of the Mystic (Asian Indian touch)
Just chillin'.......2004-05-16
I am such a huge fan of downtempo music. It is one of my favorite sub-genres of dance music, let alone music in general. I consider myself an afficienado of downtempo. I am a big fan of the Buddha Bar/Chill Out in Paris/Siddharta series in particular. Of course there is a lot of dull, predictable, boring downtempo music (i.e the Ultra Chilled and Ultimate Chillout series). My lastest chill out acquisition is "Chillin at the Playboy Mansion". I was always intrigued by this cd. Like the Buddha Bar series there are two discs, one disc is more uptempo and the second cd is more relaxing, downtempo to be exact. I have to admit I was not really all that impressed with the first disc (the City Nights disc). I couldn't believe that someone did a cover of that horrid Nelly song "Hot in Herre". That was not good IMO. I liked the last 3 or 4 songs on the cd but otherwise, I couldn't get into it. The second cd (the After Hours disc) on the otherhand is the stand out disc for me. The songs were much more mellow and soothing to listen to. The After Hours disc is perfect for when you come home from clubbing or to throw in during a dinner party. The songs were excellent. I especially loved tracks #7-9. Those songs eally stood out for me. Although the cd isn't perfect, I still enjoyed it immensely.
One of the best CDs I have ever heard..........2004-01-07
I have very eclectic tastes in music. Ranging from World, dance, industrial, classical, pop, punk, metal, you name it, I have probably heard some of it. I looked at the cover of this particular album, "Gee, I wonder what being in the Playboy mansion's like. Maybe this Album will help me figure it out." I grabbed it, and played it when I got home. I played it on the computer, read the description... LOVED it. The first disc is the perfect album to get you into a chilling clubbing mood, with some funky tunes, jazzy beats with synthesizers, and very classy electronica.
The second dics is just what you need to hear when you want to wind down, alone or with someone else. Mid-Eastern beats, soothing voices that sing relaxing sweet-nothings...
Just because it says "Chillin at the Playboy Mansion" doesn't it mean that it will be perverted. You'll be surprised, and maybe expect Hugh Heffner to send you an invitation to his pad, just to listen to the music they'll play.
MOVE OVER DIMITRI FROM PARIS!!!.......2003-08-02
I first bought Dimitri from Paris' "A Night at the Playboy Mansion" and although he his an outstanding DJ and mixer in his own right, I really found very little interest in that CD...It was too disco-ey...DJ/Mixer extraordinaire Chris Coco has now assumed the reigns of the Playboy Mansion series and honestly he does a way better job than Dimitri does in musical selections and variety. Whereas Dimitri stuck to a certain redundant formula, Coco eases you in and out of the various styles of electronica and chill out. Disc 1 is aptly named "City Nights" and is a sure delight for you party goers and club hoppers...But for those expecting a bunch of disco beats, drum and bass or heavy techno, that, it is not...Disc one offers very subdued house beats with just the right touch of funk and jazz. Check out songs from Ralph Myers and the Jack Herrin Band, the Funky Lowlives, Chris Coco himself, Dzihan and Kamien, Nick Holder, Saville Robots, Kaori and Sepia. All perfectly mixed together just as well as DJ Stephane Pompougnac of the Hotel Costes series would do it, if not better. There's also a pleasant and impressive rendition of the infamous rap song "Hot in Herre" from some dude named Tiga. I can almost stomach it a little better than the original (and overplayed) version from Nelly. Disc two "After Hours" slows it down a few notches with a plethora of downtempo music. This is in fact my favorite of the two CDs. Afterlife's mysterious "Shine" is beautiful, as well as Chungking's haunting "Bubble Love" and Easy Access Orchestra's cinematic "The Affair." El Gran Lopfsky's funky "Mumbo Jumbo" sounds like it belongs on disc one with it's uptempo flava, but it still somehow nicely fits here. Thievery Corporation's "Facing East" could have been left off all together, but other than that, disc 2 still shines with killer tracks sure to relax you after that loong stressful night of partying. Just try not to pass out from over-indulgence, otherwise you'll never really know.
Smooth grooves and midtempo delights.......2003-07-16
I previously purchased Acoustic Chill, compiled by Chris Coco, so I knew his compilation skills would be on point (and for the most part, he didn't disappoint) and decided to purchase this cd based on this and a general hope that his mixing skills would be equally impressive. The cd set is generally soft-mixed which isn't upsetting at all since the song is mid to downtempo. The track selection is great although two noticeable duds are Tiga's "hot in herre" on cd 1 and Thievery Corporation's "facing east" on cd 2. "hot in herre" is basically a rehash of nelly's song that overstayed it's welcome on mainstream radio and not enough time has passed for the song to make a nostalgic comeback. Conversely, Cd 1 also has a great rework of "good life" which is a classic, timeless song. As for "facing east," I have Thievery Corporation's "Richest Man in Babylon" from which the song is taken and I love the song on the TC cd, but in this compilation it seems kind of lost and awkward.
But enough of that.
The CD shines brightly and makes good on its promise to both get you in the mood to go out and in the mood to turn back in. CD1 is especially good with tracks like "think twice" and the aforementioned "good life." CD2 also takes you in for a nice chilled-out ride back to earth from your evening's high by starting out with the always-pleasing "hayling." Though CD1 claims to be a buildup to going out, don't expect wildly thumping house beats; the songs are on a more sophisticated level. Not a waste of money in the slightest...
