1 out of 5 stars off the face of the earth..........2005-07-21

I remember buying "Becoming X" and loving it, Kelli has an amazing voice, and I waited for a follow-up. I never heard anything, they were never seen in videos again, and I assumed they disbanded like everyone else. Well, no wonder. Kelli leaves- no more band. Why would they TRY to carry on without her? 90% of the fans were her fans and didn't know who her little band was anyways. This sucks. Avoid at all costs.

5 out of 5 stars wow!.......2004-03-04

phh. that last person is out for the stereotypical trip hop sound with a gothy female vocalist.

well, I didn't like the news of Kelli leaving, either, but I must say that I think Chris' voice sounds so much better singing his own lyrics. His voice can hit the notes that she could not and is so much creamier and richer. It especially goes well with the music.

This CD is at least five times better than their last. It's a little different-sounding, but their style is significantly more developed, too.

3 out of 5 stars Ennhh... Oasis?.......2002-02-07

This is NOT a trip-hop/rock release. Anyone who's coming from Becoming X should be made highly aware of that and listen to several sample MP3s from the net or borrow the CD from a friend before buying. This is a british rock and roll release and the "new" singer has a heavy british accent that comes through heavy in the singing (it grates on me, perhaps it does you as well).

If you're looking for well-produced somewhat downtempo hip-hop beats, this is NOT for you.

5 out of 5 stars Really incredible cd!.......2001-11-11

I am not going to write a long review. All I can really say is that this album really shocked me! I was really depressed when I learned that Kelly had left the band and even more nervous and worried when I heard the new vocalist was a guy. But, to my surprise the songs are amazing. There is a lot of emotian in this new cd and it's all very intellegant and moving in a weird way. The songs are brilliant works of trip hop that I am in love with. I can't really get into detail about it that much, but If you are a fan of emotianal songs, especially trip hop style, then get this cd! It wont dissapoint you!

5 out of 5 stars New Band, New Sound.......2001-06-12

This is not the old Sneaker Pimps. The former band actually was morphing into one of the greatest art bands on the planet, with their later b-sides and remixes. Kelli Datyon-Ali was also playing an increasing and welcome role in this new writing and mixing. The earlier Becoming X band and this later morphology are both no more. Mourn the break-up of the former Sneaker Pimps if you must, I know I did. However, I personally was not expecting this to be the same "feeling" of band here, and it isn't. It's a markedly different sound, though still heavily rooted in trip-hop and electronic alternative. There's none of the old trance rock vibe from version 1 Pimps either, and that's a shame only because they were the only ones doing it before. Chris Corner surprisingly has a great voice, and he definitely has that art rock "presence" about him. The new stuff is excellent in its own right, and should not be criticized simply for not being the old band. Hopefully Kelli will do some solo work that picks off where "Walk The Rain" and her other writing efforts left off. Maybe she should consider working with Nellee Hooper, of Six Underground, Bjork, and Massive Attack fame. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to work with her, and we'd be thrilled to buy any resulting albums.

The Japanese release includes two tracks, Diving and Unattached, which should have been included in all the releases; they're REALLY good, especially former. If you don't buy this release, you'd have to buy the UK Low Five single to get them. Anyone know why Splinter hasn't been released stateside? Very odd...
