Jennifer Paige is a young Atlanta singer whose first single, "Crush," became a top 10 hit even before the release of her debut album. Less overblown in her delivery than either Celine Dion or Alanis Morissette, Paige saves the histrionics for her lyrics (sometimes self-penned, other times the work of various music-biz pros). Many of these songs speak to the ongoing currency of concepts like obsession and passion in even the most mainstream of pop culture; Paige nearly worries herself into the ground over being trapped in love, going so far as to equate being clean and "Sober" with getting out of a bad relationship. The radio-ready results are sure to appeal to fans of both Dion and those of the more "cerebral" Paula Cole--neither of whom is as likable as Paige is. --Rickey Wright

When i first got this cd, i only was familiar with one song on it, Crush. But as i listened to the rest of the cd, i found other tracks i liked. Jennifer Paige sounds like Rachel Stevens (former S Club 7 member) meets Dido. This cd is definitely worth a listen.

5 out of 5 stars This is a must have CD for your collection!.......2005-11-26

Of course everyone knows about the huge hit "Crush"... one of the best pure pop songs every done. Definitely the best song of 1998 in a lot of people's eyes... the rest of the album showcases Jennifer's great vocal talent... "Questions" should have been a single, but as we all know, Hollywood Records rarely does anything right so they blew it in not giving this song a shot at radio...

Buy this... it's a very underrated CD!

4 out of 5 stars This CD is AWESOME! How could anyone not like it?.......2005-10-20

I bought this CD last year because I loved one of the songs, "Crush" on it. Although this album was released when I was about 9 or 10 years old, it's an excellent album. The rest of the songs, such as "Let It Rain", "Get to Me", and "Sober", are equally awesome. Everyone, if you haven't heard this album yet, you're definitely missing out on something really good. I suggest you listen to this!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good!.......2005-08-07

I loved Crush when I first heard it, so I had to buy the CD!

Jennifer Paige hit the music scene about when now-reigning teen queen Britney Spears had just put her Mousketeers ears away for good and doned pigtails instead (back when all she wanted was for listeners to hit her one more time) in 1998, releasing a sure-fire hit single "Crush" that easily made its way into the Top 10. Her debut album followed soon after, displaying a true artist in her element. Lush orchestrations and sinful soft pop/rock tuneage chocked the hit-packed record, including tracks "Questions," "Always You" and "Somewhere, Someday" as pop confections. Talented? Oh yeah. Recommended? Definitely.

After scoring a hit right out of the gate with her debut single, "Crush," Jennifer Paige called on the big guns for her follow-up. And so "These Days," Positively Somewhere's lead song, was cowritten by Phil Thornally, the former Cure bassist who put Natalie Imbruglia on the pop map in the late '90s. Sure enough, "These Days" has the platinum-plated attitude of something that's got "radio hit" written all over it. The rest of the album is surprisingly consistent considering that it was recorded all over the U.S. with 11 different producers. All the tracks share huge anthemic choruses you'll hate yourself for singing along with, and some oddball sonic touches that keep things interesting. "The Edge," for instance, boasts a nutty, rumbling bass line that's so weird it becomes completely addictive, while "Make Me" is laden with hooks. The least you can say for Paige is that she knows a catchy song when she hears it--and she'll make sure you hear it as well. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

2 out of 5 stars Sad, sad, SAD!!.......2007-06-22

Jennifer Paige's voice is just as beautiful as her face. What a talent!! I remember seeing her perform the song "Crush" on the Today show, and I immediately bought the CD. What I loved about her was the fact that with the kind of talent and integrity she was displaying, there was NO WAY she was going to be heard on the radio. She seemed unwilling to sell out just to be popular. Well, after listening to this CD, obviously somewhere along the way she decided to sell out. Fortunately she hasn't sunk to the level of going around scantily clad and falling down drunk in public (thank God). This CD is so heavily studio-manufactured that it really doesn't even matter who's singing. It's a real shame, I'd love to see JP come out with a new CD, but for now, if you want to hear her purely beautiful voice, you'll have to stick with her first (self-titled) CD.

BTW...Jennifer sang a song on the Disney movie "The Country Bears" called "Kick It In Gear" and she ROCKED an otherwise worthless movie!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2006-04-19

I absolutely love this CD. She has such fabulous vocals, and it leaves out the foul-language and dirty content of most modern Pop genre artists. It's very delightful!

5 out of 5 stars I wish we'd all heard it sooner!.......2006-01-12

Jennifer Paige seems to have been lost in the shuffle around the turn of the millennium, in spite of the fact that her debut single "Crush" beat the stuffing out of anything Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were putting out. What a loss! Although her first CD was kind of a mixed bag, with Positively Somewhere she came back strong. Sadly we haven't heard from her since, but based on this CD I'd love to hear more. I didn't discover this one myself until I went back on a "Whatever happened to?" tour through Amazon, and remembering "Crush" I stumbled onto Jennifer's two releases. Strangely I don't think anything from Positively Somewhere ever got released as a single, which is a dirty shame.

The CD opens with its three best songs: "These Days" is more or less the unofficial title track, a great catchy tune with some cool guitar riffs to distinguish it from just any old pop song. "Here With Me" is another tremendous upbeat tune, while "Stranded" cools it down a bit with a beautiful haunting chorus.

After such a strong opening, the rest of the CD does not disappoint. "Way Of The World" is bouncy pop, and the final track "Vapor" is another good example from the pop set while also closing the CD perfectly. "Feel So Far Away" has a smoky sultry flavor reminding me a lot of Sade, and "Tell Me When" has a bit of of the same. The fast-paced "The Edge" is almost a dance tune that uses more bass than the rest of the CD, to interesting effect. "Make Me" and "Stay The Night" both have a very slight Latin flavor, normally not something I much enjoy but done very well in both songs.

After hearing Positively Somewhere, I'd love to see Jennifer come back to release a third CD. Sadly I think the market won't hear of it, and in the meantime this delightful disc is becoming much harder to find. I highly recommend picking up one of the last few in circulation. If you like female vocal pop at all, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best cd i have ever heard.......2005-10-15

This cd is just amazing, i don't know how the songs didn't went hits to charts and least videos. Jennifer Paige is a great artist and i have read that she is about to release a new album later this year, maybe on 2006. I would love to have this cd in my hands, it will worth the wait. Check on [...] for the last demos and information. This is a must buy for good music listeners.

2 out of 5 stars One complaint:.......2001-08-02

The 2-star rating may be unfair, but I had to give a 1-star demerit because the CD did not have at least the radio edit of the original. BUT, the Morales Club Mix and Tiefschwarz Hollywood Extended Mix weren't bad.

That's my biggest beef with remix CDs -- put a copy of the original on the d*** thing!

3 out of 5 stars Standard mixes of a Top 40 hit........2000-01-05

So if you already have the original version of this song, there is no real reason to purchase these remixes. They never stray far from the original, sure there are some extra pianos and synths in these mixes, but nothing spectacular. The David Morales (remixes for Spice Girls, Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Madonna to name only a few of the hundreds of artists David has remixed for) mixes are surprisingly disappointing, nothing makes these ones stand out. As for the Tiefschwarz mixes; the same thing. Nothing new or eye-opening here. Only purchase this on if you are a die hard Jennifer Paige fan or a die hard David Morales fan.

5 out of 5 stars Dave Morales Remixes It Again!.......1999-01-02

I don't know much about this Tiefschwartz guy, but David Morales slams Jennifer Paige - Crush. Definately buy this cd single if you love remixes, especially by the superstar David morales

This song is one of my favourites off her album, and every one of the remixes is brilliant. The ballad remix is the best ever. I would advise anyone to start listening to her, cos once you've heard her voice, you WILL be hooked!
go buy her debut and second album, both are the best.

This single starts off with the amazing Groove Brothers Remix. They really hit it off with an awesome remix of "Always You". But the bass beats could stand out more. Gotta love Hex's well-done job on her song also. Awesome!!!
