"The way forward."
Product Description
Steve Spacek, the acclaimed voice behind the ground-breaking genre-pushing group Spacek, who were championed by everyone from Entertainment Weekly to Mos Def, presents his debut solo album with Sound In Color. It's his great American album, produced largely in Los Angeles.
Old partner Morgan from Spacek provided a few beats (check second single "3 Hours of Fun") and J Dilla produced the monster "Dollar", but the bulk of the beats were created by Steve. The legendary song writer Leon Ware also makes a guest appearance in the brilliant duet "Smoke". Future soul just got way sexier.

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30
This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.
Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09
This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.
If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.
An Excellent CD.......2006-07-27
Talk about bringing back memories. The music is crisp-clear & updated. For the 1999 fans-this is a must have.
Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01
Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.
Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.
Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.
However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.
Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09
I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

big!!.......2006-06-11
this guy is on a whole other level, when it comes to neo soul music. I absolutely embrace the sheer individuality!! i love how each song sounds different, but still kinda has its jittery, electronic, spaced out sound 2 it.. can i get an AMEN to the tune 'Dollar'... laaaawd have mercy!!! that tune cudnt play the whole way thru with me, cos i kept rewinding it!! BIG TUNE!!!.. the production is splendid!! (RIP Jay Dee. one of many of ur finest)..
this album isnt 4 any and any1.. u have to be READY!.. doesn't hurt to take a listen though. it will b worth it!!
Reconstructed Soul.......2006-05-03
I was lucky enough to grow up near Detroit, where the soul & R&B hits just kept on comin' in the 1960's. Steve Spacek honors--and completely reconstructs--that music. In "Dollar" he breaks apart the structure of a traditional soul ballad, and turns it into one beautiful, suspended, note after another--ornamenting it with his voice. Very baroque. Every song seems like a completely new idea. With this album, I think Steve Spacek has completely rewritten the book.
Finally, the Best Soul Album of this decade.......2006-01-18
This is the type of album you want everyone to hear. Every track is good. If you haven't heard Spacek before, he is an electrosoul multiinstrumentalist, producer and vocalist. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he does all of these things equally well, and he also has something to say. He is heir to both the legacies of Marvin and Curtis: Steve plays it cool. Think "Trouble Man" or "Let's Get it On" with a Mayfield falsetto. Both musically and lyrically, he avoids cliche and keeps things fresh. Richly textured sounds and a beautiful, distinctive voice make this an album just right for slipping between the sheets... but the beats keep heads nodding right along. A jittery, glichy, cut-up style of beatmaking is his trademark, though this album is earthier and less spaced-out (no pun intended) than his previous albums; it is a more satifying listen from start to finish (this is also the first album released under his full name, as opposed to his "group" Spacek). This is the Spacek album we always knew he could make. Flawless.

stands the test of time.......2006-03-17
My history with ozric tentacles is a sort of strange one. I first heard about them maybe six years ago when I was in a hard core prog rock phase with King Crimson as my favorite band at the time. The music is mostly imporv based and instrumental with the occasional trippy vocals added in.
The sound reminds me in a way of early 90s late 80s music that hasnt totally shed the 80s electronic touches which in a weird way the best comparison I can think of are the Stone Roses. Not that they share any musical similarites but theres an experienced 80s element thats really different from a lot of 80s revival thats going on now.
Their improv tribal beat based music has a real dance element that isn't in a lot of prog rock. Id reccoment this for anyone into more psychedelic dance, prog rock or more intresting jam music fans. After all these years I still can come back to this because of the diversity in guitar playing, electronic touches and just the good beats.
Ozric Does It Again!.......2005-08-05
This band may not be well known, but they are a real treat. Lovers of psychedelic music and creative Rock should own at least some Ozric Tentacles. I own what I believe to be their best music. I have Erpland, Jurassic Shift, Strangeitude, Pungent Effulgent, Curious Corn, and the Floating Seeds Remixed album. I like Jurassic Shift a lot, but the others are great too. They utilize so many things to make their music. It is really interesting, and never offensive. Pick up some or all of the titles I just mentioned if you like their vibe. It's all good!
Ozrics do it again...........2003-07-30
Somebody had once remarked that the Ozric Tentacles had released a number of recordings based on a repeated theme. If that's the truth, then they must be doing something right, because this is music that never gets boring. They slam into us with their ethnic-influenced, trippy-hippy psychedilic dance music. Great stuff.
One of the Best!.......2003-02-26
Jurassic Shift track is an awesome cut. This record is harder than most Ozric Tentacles. The guitar is fantastic as he takes solos that are real keepsakes. This is the original drumer on this record and he kicks.... Compared to some earlier releases, it is just flat out hard space rock. Awesome spin!
Archetypal Tentacles.......2002-12-08
This is the first Ozric album I have heard, so of course it has special meaning. I personally think this album stands out from everything else they have done, although Arborescence is close. There is something about this album that is just timeless. I strongly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Killer release.......2002-09-05
Easiliy one of the best offerings from this space-rock band, best prog-rock in ages. Great sound and performances.
Uneven, but with some great tracks.......2002-02-25
*** 1/2
Allmusic.com recommends 'Jurassic Shift' as *THE* Ozric Tentacles CD to get. Personally, I'd go with 'Erpland'. JS has a similar sound to that CD, but its tracks are a little more drawn-out, a little less focused. Which is not to say that it's without some excellent tunes -- the title track builds a climactic sonic landscape around some great guitar jamming, the caffeinated 'Vita Voom' is ideal mood music for zooming down the freeway, 'Sunhair' and 'Stretchy' weave pleasurable, floaty washes of texture -- however, the other tracks just sort of burble along without going anywhere interesting. 'Feng Shui' exemplifies this problem with like ten minutes of vaguely oriental mild noodling, and a noisy "heavy metal" sequence grafted onto the end for good measure.
Overall, the good tunes are very enjoyable and worthy of eventually being added to an Ozrics collection, but, IMO, the mediocre ones hold JS back from 'essential' status.
The first Ozric albums I've heard.......2001-08-30
This, along with Arborescence, were the first two Ozric albums I've heard. Jurassic Shift is as you expect from other Ozric albums, lots of killer spacy jams, killer guitar, and spacy synthesizers. "Sunhair" and "Stretchy" are just nothing short of amazing, while I found a lot of the rest of the album a little uneven. Some of it seems to drag on a little longer than it needs to, but at least there's that mystical feeling I can't get enough of. I more prefer Arborescence since that album didn't fall so much in that filler trap like the last couple of cuts on Jurassic. Still, if you're a newcomer to the Ozrics, both this, and Arborescence are wonderful places to start.
Classic.......2000-10-29
This is the first Ozric album that I heard, and it will always be a sentimental favorite. A sometimes beautiful, but almost always intense and heavy album, it's also Ozric's most well-known (hit #10 on the UK alternative charts). Simply has some of the most amazing guitar playing ever committed to tape. Listen to the intertwining multiple acoustic guitars making love to one another on "Feng Shui". Every time I hear the song I either decide that it's humanly impossible to play that riff on one guitar, or I decide its one guitar played by one extraordinary guitarist with *very* nimble fingers. or how the Joie's synth lines morph into Ed's soloing on "Stretchy". And no-one on the planet does epic like Ozric does. The title track is signature Ozric, you are overwhelmed by wave after wave of soaring guitar solos and never let down by its unrelenting intensity for over ten minutes. My favorite on this album is "Pterandon". The title evokes all of the imagery that you need for this song, as you can literally see the creature waking up, taking off, flying high over the prehistoric landscape and taking in its wonder, and then landing and tearing some food apart - all through the music, without any lyrics or liner notes. I have no idea why they remastered this, as the production is literally flawless, but you do get a bonus live track "Feng Shui Live".
Mindblowing!.......2000-04-06
If you want the finest space rock album money can buy, then this is it. Jurassic Shift contains some of Ozric Tentacles finest moments. I must admit, I can never really remember the track names cos they are, basically, all a bit silly..... so, not mentioning titles, this album will take you from the searing heights of prog rock shredding to the deep and lush synth textures of rainforests and forgotten worlds....
