Product Description
MTV's ubiquitous Spring Break DJ makes his debut for Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto Records on "Perfecto Presents...DJ Skribble." With his unabashedly banging club mix style, New York's DJ Skribble has sold over a half a million copies of his "Essential Mix" albums in the US alone, and has built an envious career as one of the country's most widely recognized DJ's. Now DJ Skribble returns with undoubtedly his strongest effort to date on "Perfecto Presents...DJ Skribble." The mix features an accessible yet credible ride through the best in modern club music, and includes upfront material from Erick Morillo, Deep Dish, Narcotic Thrust, Superchumbo, Club 69, Murk, and man-of-the-moment Steve Angello. The mix also features EXCLUSIVE new material from DJ Skribble, including his collaboration with Harry "Choo Choo" Romero on "Feedback," as well as his remixes of Oakenfold's "Southern Sun" and Ministers De-La-Funk feat. Jocelyn Brown's "Believe" (both album exclusives!)! . Also featured is the extremely hard to find "In and Out" by Eric Prydz, the man behind "Call On Me" - one of 2005's biggest dance hits.

5 out of 5 stars Positively Hypnotic!.......2007-04-06

This was my very first electronic cd. I picked it up at the local record store on impulse, and didn't expect much. At first listen, it seemed somewhat pretentious, indulgent, artsy... This was my idea of trance music in general at the time. In fact, I bought this album as a challenge to myself: I wanted to give every style of music a fair chance.

After my 30 second scan of each track, I left it alone until one fateful night. My friend Ricky pulled out some nifty little toys called glowsticks! He told me he had been learning how to make interesting light shows out of them, but the only "techno" music he had was a horrible mix tape featuring the likes of alice deejay, t-99, and other outdated rave-monkey acts. I shuddered at every track's rediculous synths and over-enhanced basslines. So he noticed my copy of "Another World" sitting in my cd tower, and suggested we try it.

I was overwhelmed at the difference it made to play this album on Ricky's 6,000-dollar home stereo. I was simply blown away at the darkly hypnotic, and playfully dreamy sounds that were coming out of the speakers. I picked up the glowsticks for my first time and I created something beautiful out of this mix.

And now, 6 years later, I still keep coming back to this mix whenever I need to unwind. Seriously, almost EVERY SINGLE TRACK here is on my list of favorites. However, the two that really stand out to me the most are North Sky and Tears in the Rain. I still whistle the melody of the Vangelis song to my baby nephew as a lullaby, and he loves it.

Summing it all up: These are some of the most intense, uplifting, and soulful pieces of music I have ever experienced. If you have a patient ear, and an active mind... You will enjoy this mix.

5 out of 5 stars Quintessential Oakenfold........2006-09-03

Another World is one of my three favorite Oakenfold releases (Tranceport and Creamfields are the other two) and it's easy to hear why it's so popular among trancers. It has a seamless progression that takes you on a journey of mind-altering consciousness. It allows you to escape to another world. This is Oakenfold at his best.

Enjoy it while you can, however, because Oakenfold is slipping into oblivion under the toxic blanket of fast-buck economics. His demise, I'm sad to say, will rival that of Whitney "Bolivia" Houston.

5 out of 5 stars OAKENFOLD WITH THE WORLD'S BEST TRANCE CD EVER MADE !!!!.......2006-05-21

In this time I will really high recomend something on my life. If you like trance...progressive...vocal...tecno...anything...you should buy this CD...not just only becasue it was choose as the best compilation CD of the century...not because was sold more than 1,000 copies world wide...but because is really...really...good stuff...I high high recomende this CD as the best trance compilation ever that you will listen.

This is my favorite Oakenfold release. It is so original in it's music selection. Awesome driving music.

5 out of 5 stars My absolute favorite Oakenfold CD of all time.......2006-02-19

If you are an Oakenfold fan, you MUST purchase Perfecto Presents Another World. This by far the best compilation he has done and is one of my absolute favorite CDs of all time. Every Oakenfold or even techno/dance/electronica fan should own it!

The transition of songs could not be better. The selection of pieces is fantastic, right down to Delerium and the end of the second CD. If you have never bought anythgin by Paul Oakenfold before, this is the one to start off with - you will not be disappointed. This is how I got hooked on his collections - which I now own 11 of! :-)

Album Description

Sandra Collins is, without question, one of the most recognizable and well loved DJ's in the business. With her incessant nationwide touring, massive press coverage, top selling mix CDs, and rock star persona, Sandra has solidified her place as the top female DJ in the world. Her debut mix album for Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto Records was her most acclaimed release to date, about which All Music Guide gushed, "It's been a while since any mix-CD sounded so purposeful, exciting, and vivid." On Perfecto Presents Part 2, Sandra puts forth an upfront mix of electo and vocal laced progressive house and trance that will no doubt continue the excellent pattern established on her debut outing.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars 10 Stars of 5 .......2007-06-22

The story is funny, i bough this cd to my Gf who loves Sandra's music, after i heard it i feel in love with this, until i could bought it for me.
Sandra kept much of her old music style and attached some more House-Progressive stuff more than P-Trance which surely amazed me when i listened this.
I still listen both discs and love them, they have "i dont know what" that makes you want to listen them all the time.
ONE+ONE & Sandra Collins Part 2 have this curious "addictive" music and they surely are worth it.
I get wondered what makes people to rate this item as 1 star?
That only shows me that their 5 stars rating can only be accepted for mediocre music style but oh well.
Who cares, just give a a listen if you enjoy club sounds.
This one surely makes the big job and heck pleased to see at least a woman Dj who rules.
Bravo Sandra.
Regards

4 out of 5 stars best SC cd yet.......2007-02-14

i enjoyed this one. i happen to think it's better than any other cd she has put out...of course, her Cream cd was really good too. the first SC perfecto cd was rather...boring. this one she changes up her style. seems as though she went from trancy and progressive to trancy and electro. music changes as the years go by, and thus, good djs must go with the movement. SC polishes this 2-disker very nicely!

1 out of 5 stars Dont buy this!!.......2007-01-29

A bad Dj brings us a Bad mix. Anything perfecto is not worth buying. If you are looking for quality Djing and quality electronic music. Look for the Global Underground series, Balance and anyhting Digweed, Sasha, Howells or Lawler... that is where your money should go.

4 out of 5 stars This Album is Bottom Heavy: CD Number 2 is Where it's at!.......2006-12-15

Just flew back to the US just to buy this album (also to celebrate Christmas). I wasn't expecting this album to be as good as the first set for Perfecto. I was right. First of all to be fair, this has not been the best year for new remixes and trance singles released by those who produce them (i.e. Gabriel and Dresden and others). Since that is the case-poor little Sandy has to settle for a little less and try to innovate in the only way she can-with the melodies and how they are mixed. The first CD has a lot of melodies that she spun at the Miami Winter Music Conference. To be honest, I wasn't too pleased with it. The first song was wicked hot and hardcore (hmm.) But the other songs didn't follow through. The second CD is the Sandra that I know and love. It flows and I enjoyed the harder trance songs with subtle house overtones. Brilliant stuff...Sandra with make you trance happy with CD 2... ;D

Like your favorite gourmet restaurant, Paul Oakenfold always mixes the familiar with pleasant new twists. On Ibiza, Oakenfold is every inch the vintage progressive house-trance DJ, packing both discs with springboard dynamics, variety, and spice. The first track, "Waiting," is a John Creamer remix of a Nat Monday composition, and it gets the pulse jogging with over 10 minutes of invigorating trance. Depeche Mode chips in with a Danny Tenaglia mix of "I Feel Loved" (different versions of which can be found on the CD single), and Oakenfold contributes his own lush mix of U2's "Beautiful Day." The collection is brought steaming home by Insigma's house-trance driver "Open Your Eyes" and PPK's dramatic but house-fun "ResuRection (Space Club Mix)." Things do get a bit wonky midway through the record's first half, as Radiohead's "Idioteque" is too twee and tart for this mix's overall tone. It takes the freeway-crunching "Transit" by Arena to bring Ibiza back into comfortable contextual territory. Nobody manages to pack clubs worldwide like Oakenfold, and when he's really trying, nobody can pack a club into two discs and a plastic box like Oakenfold, either. On Ibiza, the man put some elbow grease into his mixing board. --Steffan Chirazi

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Any album that promotes the word Ibiza = cheese..........2005-02-04

Even though Oakey is making a strong comeback with his latest album "Creamfields" (highly recommended), this album, along with Bunkka, typifies why this extrodinary DJ has received a very bad rap of late. Don't get me wrong, I love Oakenfold, but his meteoric success has the unfortunate effect of selling out artistry for commercialism. Since 2001 or so, Oakey has become more of a franchise than a DJ, selling pop remixes, soundtracks to Playstation games, and hobknobing with the likes of Justin Timberlake and U2. I can understand why many of his fans abhor him for trying to make a buck at the expense of quality.

Ibiza is substandard Oakey, with cheesey songs and average technique. It sometimes makes me wonder, if an amatuer DJ would have cut this set, would it be called "brilliant"? However, since this ablum is from Mr. O, he has to present us with a gem everytime. Anything less is cheese. Oakenfold and Tiger Woods suffer the same malaise of extreme public expectation.

I also want to take note and ask why are record labels slapping "Ibiza" on everything that is related to dance?? A once-unknown island getaway for E-trippers and Euro-candyravers is now the self-appointed Mecca of dance music?? Just because an album has Ibiza on it does NOT guarantee a masterpiece. In fact, I steer clear from any album that mentions any reference to Ibiza. Otherwise, I am in for a guaranteed chedder-fest.

I am so glad that Oakey has reinvented himself and is returning to his roots and craftmanship. Although Bunkka, Ibiza, Great Wall, and Swordfish all represent a watered-down, commercial doppleganger of Oakenfold, these albums nevertheless are an important transition period in the history of the world's most influential DJ of all-time.

If you are following the chronology of Oakenfold, do yourself a favor, get everything from 1994-2001, especially the Cream sets, ending with Travelling (excellent CD BTW), skip everything after that, and start over with Creamfields. Your ears will respect you in the morning.

I saw Oakey live recently at a Tsunami benefit. Da brotha still got it!

5 out of 5 stars another strong mix album.......2004-05-18

Oakenfold has been called the world's greatest DJ. Now this mix album may not be as great as Another World of Swordfish but its hard to beat those mixes. I also may be one of the few that really liked how he through some Radiohead into the mix. I think the song just fits for some reason. His mixing is untouchable, as well as his song selection. I highly recommend this album to further your Oakenfold mix album collection. Another strong mix that shows you why he stands above the other DJs. Some of you may not like his song selection but that is what makes Oakenfold himself. What is an Oakenfold mix without some wierdness thrown in? Anyways, get it and enjoy it. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars this is my fevrite cd.......2003-12-25

i dont know how all of you people can not like this cd this cd is gread it has a lot of great songs so to anyone that doesint have it should get it.

2 out of 5 stars Where is Paul & what have you done with him??.......2003-07-22

OUCH. Was he trying to sell out, go for a pop chart hit?

Boring. Really bad singing & sampling. Annoyingly simple techno that starts with nothing and goes nowhere. I am heavily dissapointed. Disc 2 is slightly better, but I found I could not make it through most tracks. Paul Oakenfold has some great CDs, but this is not one of them.

3 out of 5 stars Hmm....I don't know.......2003-07-18

I liked the CD and as mentioned, it grows on you. There were only two songs that I really can call my favorites: CD1;track 8;Maas Attacks and CD2:track 11;ResuRection (space club mix). Maas Attacks is really unique and very spooky. And ResuRection (space club mix) really does make you feel like you are in space. But that is just me, you might like the rest more!
Gotta love P. Oakenfold though, the songs may not be his usual, but he does a great job DJing.

Album Description

Paul Oakenfold is one of the most important and influential DJs in popular music. In a career now spanning more than two decades, he has worked with such acclaimed artists and bands as Madonna, U2, the Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Moby, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, Ice Cube and Nelly Furtado. 2003 sees the release of this dynamic new mix album- where he combines mega pop artists such as Madonna and Justin Timberlake with alternative greats such as Bjork and Dave Gahan (of Depeche Mode)!

It is now safe to say that Paul Oakenfold is the world's number one DJ! Running concurrently with his burgeoning soundtrack career, Oakenfold recently had five albums in the American Top 50 Electronic Chart. They included Perfecto Presents Another World which, when released at the end of 2000, became America's biggest-ever DJ mix album. Oakenfold was also the headline DJ on Moby's massively ambitious Area:One traveling festival tour of North America last summer.

Album Description

The world-renowned Oakenfold leads an avalanche of top remixers as they collaborate with such artists as Madonna, Dave Gahan and Bjork on another electronica masterwork. 19 tracks. Reprise/Sire. 2003.

5 out of 5 stars His Best.......2007-06-30

I actually got this a few years ago, but I still maintain an appreciation for it. I think that you'll be disappointed if you're looking for something really upbeat like Paul van Dyk or Above and Beyond; this really is not trendy club music-it's darker than his other releases. Oakenfold's Transport was what turned me onto trance and so for the longest time he was the only DJ that I would listen to, of course my horizons have since broadened, my point is that I have most of his pre-2006 CDs. Great Wall, Tranceport, and Another World are the only ones that have remained relevant today, furthermore, I consider Great Wall to be his most creative release. If you like darker trance also check out Markus Schulz's Ibiza '06, that'll blow your mind.

4 out of 5 stars hmmm.. its okay.......2007-01-18

Dirty Stick Floors was the most amazing track i've heard in a long time.. WOW!!!! But............. thats the only track i really really like in the whole album. See, the rest of it is alright, not bad, but just alright. It has a middle eastern trance'ish feel throughout.. here and there it will pick up and get you going again, but to be honest, for the most part, this is not the up tempo type stuff I thought it would be. Def. a good buy for those who find this kind of thing appealing. I give it 4 stars just because it is soooo well mixed.. thoroughly impressed there. I also like the "Hollywood" remix.. nice syth. vocal.

5 out of 5 stars As progressive as trance gets.......2005-10-18

What an amazing compilation of trance(?) My first impression would be to call it trance because the mixes are so beautiful. But there is so much depth here that it really falls into something much more progressive. This music will grow on you and before you know it, 3 months will pass and you'll still be discovering another great track. You'll find big sound, crisp rythms, celestial melodies, and dark mind-bending bass.

5 out of 5 stars Great Trance Album.......2005-09-03

+ I do not like Justin T. but I like Paul O.

+ Spheric but still energetic traxxxx

+ Try listen to it durin' nightdriving

5 out of 5 stars Great Wall, Great Work.......2005-06-23

If for one reason Oakenfold is a pioneer then that is that he is not afraid to experiment. That has lead him in a few bumps on the road. However this album is far from a bump. More like a classic smooth house collection. Big mid tempo beats that fit better in indoor spaces.
As with all compilations who want to become classics a good step would be not to focus on individual songs. Still, one cannot neglect that Great Wall features the best mix of Motorcycle's As The Rush Comes, Deepsky's fantastic mix on Oakie's Hypnotised and another fantastic mix on Dave Gahan's Dirty Sticky Floors. I have no problem whatsoever with Cry Me A River. In fact it fits in just perfect!
I would agree with other reviews that the new release by Perfecto (The Club) was a mediocre work and should never have reached the stores. But Great Wall is a whole different story. It gave me fantastic times during the 2003-2004 winter and now some one and a half year later I can't but recommend it! A winter mix classic!

Album Description

Sandra Collins is, without question, one of the most recognizable, well loved, and respected DJ¹s on the planet. With her incessant nationwide touring, massive press coverage, top selling mix CDs, and rock star persona, Sandra has developed into not only the top female DJ in America, but the top DJ, period. In fact, the DanceStar Awards (the dance music ³Grammy¹s²) made it official, awarding the 2003 ³Best DJ² award to Sandra over the likes of Louie Devito, Deep Dish and Bad Boy Bill among others. This award is the most recent accomplishment in a long list of stellar career achievements which include her award as URB Magazine¹s 1999 "Best Female Artist" (in honor she shared with Lauryn Hill), her six hour set following Moby in front of 80K screaming fans at the ¹99 Woodstock Festival, best selling mix CD¹s for Tranceport and Cream, a massively popular residency at legendary NYC club Twilo alongside Sasha & Digweed and Paul Van Dyk, and breakout coverage in mainstream press such as Spin and Gear. Recently signed to the Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto roster, Sandra Collins presents her most accomplished work to date, a brilliant 2XCD mix which builds upon her signature combination of melodic vocal anthems and darker prog material.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sandra Collins is untouchable.......2006-09-12

I lived in LA for a few years and saw her live on a regular basis at the clubs. This set is a wicked cut above what she was spinning there. I listen to it now and I get homesick for LA. This album is awesome! You'll be blown away by her melodies>>>>

4 out of 5 stars Very Special, very different........2006-01-23

Genre/Trance

This was my first introduction to Sandra Collins and boy was I impressed. I havent heard her name too much around the Trance circuits but let me tell you I probably own over 150 albums and thousands of Electronic Dance Music tracks(mainly uplifting Trance). Ive heard them all, Tiesto, Ferry, PVD, Oakie, Sascha, MIKE, Armin etc and this girl is definately amonst the best.

I wasnt too impressed with the cd#2 but let me tell you that the CD#1 is well worth buying this album. Actually I Love Tracks no#2 -6 are INCREDIBLE, they are crazy, mad off the hook. The whole 1 st CD flows extremely well, perfect mixing without being able to tell where one track ends and the other begins.

Fantastic track selection for this first set and you will hear songs you have never heard on any other Dj playlist. She follows no other DJ. Sandra keeps building not in each track so its not like some compliation of big hits. Rather its keeps building and building and by mid set just when you are about to get pumped she brings you back down for some more. This cd will definately put you in a good mood evertime.

This is probably not the kind of trance that you will dance to but then again neither is Armins stuff as of recent. There are also some great vocals in here that will definately do what trance is supposed to do, take you on a journey.

2 out of 5 stars good to fall asleep too.......2005-02-17

I thought Sandra took it down a few notches witht this cd.
I would consider her a great dj, but I dont agree with the "progresive" tracks that she played in this cd.
On both cds I only got into to 2 songs and thats it. This cd is really slow. I played it driving from Vegas to Phoenix and I almost wrecked cause I was falling asleep.
Sandra live is much better. Sandra on other cds is much better.
Sandra on this cd is much worse. I hope she makes it up on her next cd.

1 out of 5 stars Why.......2005-01-27

Why do people buy this junk. I borrowed it and it was just as I'd assumed it would be. I've also seen her in concert and she isn't much better. Must be a lot of girls giving her 5 stars since she's the only mainstream female DJ.

IF you like Deep Dish, Sassha, John Digweed, Nick Warren and Sander Kleinenberg and even Tiesto then don't waste your money on this.

4 out of 5 stars Much much more than I expected!.......2004-12-30

I wanted to buy this cd for a while, specially after hearing Sandra live. However I was somewhat unsure after reading some of the reviews. But I bought it anyway and I was totally unprepared! Cd 2 is excellent without any and's, if's or but's about it...as far as I am concerned the mix is perfect(beginning, middle and end). I do agree with the reviewer that said that if cd 2 was by itself it would have gotten my 5 stars. Cd 1 has some tracks that are kind of slow and seem to drag on (mainly 5,6 and 7). Things pick up at track 8 and at the end we have the most excellent remix of Beber and Tamra's Travelling on, the song makes the whole cd 1 worthwhile. Get it you won't be sorry!

Album Description

If you like vocal club music you def need to get this CD. It's def one of my favs right now, I'm listening to it as I type. He's def now the same DJ he was spinning back in the 90's at Mtv Spring Break (although he was good then too). I wish nothing but the best of luck to him the future and hope he keeps on putting out QUALITY club/dance music. This is a must have.

4 out of 5 stars Sublime & annoying all at once - that takes some doing.......2004-01-20

What do you do when a mix transports you to dizzy heights one minute, and then irritates the heck out of you the next? If that puzzle is too much for you to handle, you may want to leave this mix well alone. However, for those of you who can put up with (or skip) nerve-jangling moments of sonic horror every now and again, this mix is a beauty - 'coz he's back, all right. With a bang. Like only he can.

I've long ago decided that nobody knows what Seb Fontaine's thinking except Seb Fontaine himself - the man seems to be comfortable with such drastic changes of direction when programming a mix that it's a little disorienting for a few of us. A classic example - mixes from his Prototype series with the Boxed label, which whipped from funky to deep to progressive to trancey with no time to breathe between tracks. That's part of the appeal of a Seb mix, I guess - track selection like there's no tomorrow, sorta like the feel of a DJ going mad in a club. Ergo, you're going to have to expect the disconnected feel that some tracks induce ("What the %^@* is he trying to do?!"). This mix showcases this ability to enthrall & frustrate in equal parts by interspersing driving rhythms and banging tempo with maniacally repetitive vocals that I simply don't see the point of - sometimes right in the middle of an otherwise brilliant track.

Disc 1 starts you off well enough, with Saltpervert's "5 AM Soho" providing the perfect foundation for a groove-oriented, high energy mix. Seb's own remix of Shagrat's "India" carries on well, and when Flatline's "Are You a Freak?" dropped, I was just getting ready to bow to the master. Then, it happened - the title vocal moved from being just right to plain peurile (areyouafreakareyouafreakareyoufreak... enough already!). I love everything else about this track - wouldn't a dub have done so much by cutting a little? We'll never know - this is Seb's party, and you just have to keep up, I guess. By the time I was back in the groove, David Guetta's "Distortion" was driving appropriately hard, and segued superbly into Soul Mekanik and further into The Mook, before ending with the suitably pulsing "It's Love (Trippin)".

OK - just an aberration on Track 4, you think. Let's move on to Disc 2.

He does it again - right in the beginning. Otherwise fine track absolutely mauled by a pointless, looped vocal. I could cry with disappointment, but things get hauled back up again in a serious hurry - tracks 3, 4, 5 & 6 are vintage Seb. Wild, out of control grooves brought to shuddering halts with outworldly, trippy breakdowns - this is what he does best. By the time MAteo Murphy's "Spectrum" breaks over your speakers, you've moved through enough suitably electro-clash territory to satisfy followers of the year's biggest trend. Overall result - satsfaction.

Bottom Line - He's a mad magician. Don't come here if you're looking for consistency. But if you want to experience the buildup of epic sound to that defining moment that only Seb can provide, go get it. It may make you shake your head in bewilderment once or twice, but you'll always be yanked back into the groove eventually.

Disc 1 - 3 stars.
Disc 2 - 4 stars.
Reviewer's Tilt - An extra 1/2 star (aww, it's Seb, after all :-D)
Overall - 4 stars. Does him no harm at all.

5 out of 5 stars The Ever-Evolving Seb!!!.......2003-10-19

This set is sick! Seb gets right into it from the start. Excellent programming. This is a must have for Seb fans! He kills it on this one.

1 out of 5 stars I Wasted $20 on this cd.......2003-10-13

I found this cd to be overly repetitve and boring. As a fan of Sasha, Digweed, Van Dyk and crew, I would recommend any album by these DJ's over this Perfecto compilation

5 out of 5 stars sublime.......2003-09-06

track 1 on cd 2 is definately the worst track on either cd.
but its not THAT bad. you can/will survive listening to it!

and i kid you not, other than that track, this cd is FLAWLESS. its dark, moody, and full of beats. i'm going record shopping for a couple of the tracks on here, like track 1 cd 1. great vocals. love 'em.

oh and i saw seb fontaine a couple weeks ago in chicago. got my flyer (looks like the cd cover) signed! wooha!

this cd is great!

4 out of 5 stars Not bad..........2003-08-04

The Seb is back indeed considering this album is much better than his previous one, but I was not wowed like I was with Prototype 1 and 2. The first song on disk 2 made me very annoyed. How many times can you repeat the words: Chicago, Detroit, New York in one song??? I'll tell you: 30 times in less than 8 minutes. That's just wrong. Therefore, considering the lack of "wow" factor and such amazingly annoying repetition on song one of disk 2, this CD deserves a 4. Try a little harder Seb!

    Amazon.com

The latest disc from dance music's most well-known DJ goes for the mass-appeal jugular, offering a collection of main-room beats and remixes. Melding tracks from artists like U2, The Doors, and Justin Timberlake with his own work (credited here as "Perfecto Allstarz"), Oakenfold tries to replicate the sound of a specific type of Club, the kind that caters to beginners, where every third track is something everyone knows. It's a safe tactic for a man who has long since given up the mantle of a truly progressive artist in favor of a more ambassador/recruiter-type role. He's not lagging that far behind, though; there are touches of electro around the edges here, especially in "LA Woman" (though electro isn't exactly cutting-edge anymore to be sure). And while it would have been nice to hear a more radical reworking of "Rock Your Body," Oakenfold's choice to keep Timberlake's heavily airbrushed vocal intact gives the song an almost surreal smoothness. The unabashed populism of this mix prevents it from having any staying power, but it's immediate impact, while brief, should only further expand Oakenfold's empire. -Matthew Cooke

4 out of 5 stars fun dancy CD.........2007-05-31

this CD is actually not too bad.. contrary to come of the reviews.. some of the tracks are really good.. some are sort of "meh" but it's a fun CD to listen to. I am happy with the purchase which was done on a whim, and in the midst of many bad reviews.. It's got a great Oakie energy to it, and you can tell he got to touch most of the music on it.. PPK's ressurection and Chroma (long) are my fav tracks..

4 out of 5 stars It is what it is.......2007-03-02

If you're a long time Oakenfold fan, then don't read this review. I admit that this album is not a highlight of Oakenfold's mixing career, but we the songs on this album are not half bad. If you're new to Oakenfold's work, than this is definitely a place to start. This cd advertises with the title that it is CLUB music (meaning that these are songs that you can definitely bump and grind to at a club) which is exactly what this album has succeeded in. With remixes of Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body" along with vocals by pop artists like Natasha Bedingfield, one look at this album and you can already make inferences that the beats will be poppy. One major gripe I have about this album is that the selection of songs and the order they appear on this album are inconsistent with no careful though or planning.

    1 out of 5 stars dreadful.......2007-02-01

Just because you *can* remix something doesn't mean you necessarily *should*. This album is abysmal.

    5 out of 5 stars Oakenfold = COOL.......2007-01-10

Pay no attention to the nay sayers for they have no idea what they are talking about. This is an AWESOME album. If you are an OAKENFOLD fan and NOT just a trance fan you will love this cd. OAKENFOLD has the best beats around. NO ONE does it the way he does. LIKE Elvis he has RHYTHM. This album makes you cool with every listen. IF you are a nerd, listen to this album along with Oakenfold's Swordfish over and over. YOU will.....BE COOL.

3 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is, and advertisement for a club! .......2006-12-15

I am a devoted Paul Oakenfold fan, and have been since 1998. I hesitated buying this until previewing it a few times in the shops. It is definitely a different sound (think mainstream, rock-dance, commercial) than what I and loyal fans worldwide have come to expect.

"The Club" is not a Paul Oakenfold compilation, but actually a advertisement for the TV series "The Club" (based on the new multi-million superclub Ice in Las Vegas) in which Oakey makes appearances. So you really have to take it as that, and nothing more.

Oakey is getting older, has done it all, played everywhere, and seen everything in dance. He's been on top of the game for nearly two decades, and as such, he has grown as an artist and embraced his extensive wealth and the lifestyle that comes with living in L.A.'s social scene.

"The Club" features a couple great songs worth the price of admission alone. Jan Johnston's "Delerium" is a hypnotic slice of main room vocal trance that speaks to the soul, followed by the best song on the album, Deadly Avenger's "Artisan" (Powerful progressive breaks with an epic tone). I believe Oakey put these on the mix for dedicated fans. Thanks!

There are good rock-dance productions by Oakey under his Perfecto Allstarz moniker, with "Psycho" opening up the mix in a surprisingly good way, followed by the Oakenfold remix of The Flaming Lips, which is decent. Perfecto Allstarz follows with "Bullit", which starts off great (you think he is going into trance mode), but journey's off into unchartered waters. Too much commercialness and major key usage = cheese.

Natasha Bedingfield's "If You're Gonna Jump" is a superb example of Oakey's mainstream appeal, and would sound perfect in an action movie, Hollywood premiere, or any main stage in any superclub . Looks like he got everything right on this one, and it shows. Play this in your car and you're guaranteed to exceed the speed limit!

    The bad: here we go.

The Doors "L.A. Woman" is just ridiculous. Hollywood has definitely taken hold of him. This is the worst track I've ever heard from him, and I hope it's the last. Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body" is given a mild, simple Oakenfold remix that just should never have happened. It's perfect media advertisement, but is still pure cheese. But watch it rock the dancefloor at ANY hip hop club effortlessly! To each his own.

"Southern Sun", U2's "Beautiful Day", PPK's "Resurrection"? How many times have we seen these tracks on other Oakey compilations, and haven't we heard them waaay too much already? Come on Sir Oakey! This is what angers a lot of devoted fans, along with the "L.A. Woman" and Timberlake fiascos. I know you are make millions off this stuff, but enough is enough!

Perfecto Allstarz round out the mix, with "Chroma" (so-so breaks filler) kindly escorting us into the fairly good Ice Las Vegas ad-song "The Club Theme". Oakey probaly made this in one-sitting, but it still sounds pretty good. Nothing special, but good background music for (once again) advertising!

All in all, I recommend this only if you are a rock and dance music fan, or if you are a truly loyal Oakenfold fan. While not a "Another World" or "Creamfields", "The Club" is a nice addition to your collection.

P.S. - History has shown us that Oakey drops a mediocre release here and there before coming out with a monster-think Perfecto's Greatest Hits, Elvis and other shameful remixes, -followed by Creamfield and The Great Wall. We are due for another massive mix soon!

3 out of 5 stars True Oakenfold Fans of Old Should Like This.......2007-05-30

If the type of sets that Paul Oakenfold used to mix at the turn of the century still appeal to your auditory senses then this may be an album for you. Travelling is a two disc set loaded with tracks that are very reminiscent of Oakenfold's glory years. Expertly mixed and true to his preference for trance. Both discs have a very similar sound throughout although disc 1 has a little more of a darker undertone while disc 2 has a few more clubbers' anthems.

Disc 1 gets 3.5/5 stars and disc 2 gets 3/5 stars.

    4 out of 5 stars Descent CD.......2004-09-22

I really enjoy this album although i do agree about the whole thing that this doesnt have a lot of songs that are on his other albums. but sometimes you just don't really care when you hear that good of songs. After a while you do start to think, come on oakenfold, get more creative please, but not in a bunnka kinda way.( not that i dont like bunnka) i definately think this is a good oakenfold set to have. some tracks are boring , some are simply soul grabbing. which i think that is how most of oakies music really is. cheers

3 out of 5 stars A Solid, Yet Uninspired, Mix.......2004-04-15

After listening to "Another World," I was looking forward to giving "Travelling" a go. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the mixes are great. The problem is that it's basically "Another World 2.0." A good majority of the tunes in this mix already appear in "Another World," so if you've heard the aforementioned album, you'll notice this album seems to amount to little more than a track realignment.
To future buyers, it pretty much comes down to choosing either this album or "Another World," but I wouldn't recommend owning both.

    5 out of 5 stars The, "Thriller".......2003-08-17

I have a lot of Oakenfold, but this is the big one for me; this is the, "Thriller," of my Oakenfold collection. I can't get enough of this album. The first six months I had it I couldn't stop playing it and had to force myself to play other stuff. It is one year later and I still can't just play part of it. Once it's on, I'm hooked. "Travelling," is the perfect name for this album. He warms you up in fits and starts, then, the minute you hear the first of, "Cry to Dream," it's time to fasten your seat belt as you get blasted into the stratosphere. He keeps you high at that level right through the second disc. Bravo, guy! Six stars!
