Product Description
Fresh from their World Tour supporting the Morning Sci-Fi album, Hybrid pick up the torch on the next installment of Distinctive's influential Y4K breakbeat mix series.

Known as outstanding DJ's in their own right, Hybrid's Mike Truman & Chris Healings have logged thousands of air miles of the past few years spinning an upfront selection of progressive leaning breakbeats and house as well as their fair share of exclusive Hybrid remixes of classic tunes.

Y4K captures the explosive essence of a live Hybrid DJ set opening with a exclusive intro produced by Hybrid especially for this collection and closing with their own remix of Lil' Louis' Chicago house classic, "Blackout".

In between Hybrid drops some of the hottest tracks of the moment, including the new Orbital single "One Perfect Sunrise" (remixed by Stereo 8), Evil 9's take on "The Way" by Dylan Rhymes, and a Luke Chable mix of GusGus' "David". Also worked into the mix is an exclusive track from Andy Page & Lee Burridge and The Chemical Brothers' quintessential classic, "Chemical Beats".

Album Description

An American pioneer of the Breakbeat dance scene, Icey's has had a decade plus of DJing, producing, remixing and championing of breaks, the musically vast, ever-evolving genre he's played a major role in defining. Icey is a touring maniac, taking to the road with the vigor of a Presidential candidate, criss-crossing North America and points beyond, and racking up over 100 DJ dates a year, yet still finds time to run his indie label Zone Records.

2006 sees influential UK breaks label Distinctive tap Icey to record an installment of their highly popular Y4K mix CD series. The set contains exclusive remixes and tracks from Icey, Ils, Transformer Man, General MIDI, Atomic Hooligan, Drumattic Twins, Deekline and Wizard. Icey's Y4K mix album is funky and tough, otherworldly and sublime, grand and proudly underground.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Icey + Y4K = good.......2006-08-19

I think this is one of Icey's better releases. I find him to be hit or miss, but this one is spot on. He's got a good cut selection, and everything is solidly mixed with a good blend of barn burners and floor velcro.

The stand out cuts for me are:

Feelin' Kinda Strange (Bass Kleph & Nick Thayer Remix)- This one is infectious. It has one of the better build sections I've heard in a while.

Like This (Main Mix)- I can't remember how this one goes, but I remember thinking "This is sick!" and looking to see what was playing and it was this.

Closer - This is a nice break from full on action and features hot chick samples.

Everybody Get Up (Circuit Breaker Remix)- This is a full on barn burner and my favorite cut on this CD. Very electro, great bass.

Like I said, I think this is one of Icey's better mix compilations. Definitely worth a look.

4 out of 5 stars trippy trek into goovy breaks.......2006-04-19

My reviewere Kris had this to say about this CD for Raves.com/DJfix.com: Icey is kinda spacey. This, of course, with me, helps his appeal. The promise of a trippy trek into the world of electronica is always a positive thing, provided it's done right. Icey is also, befittingly, chilled and cool (but hot with ability, right?). His groovy breaks apply a certain textured minimalism to create infectious hookyness that use subtlety to sink its claws in. It doesn't take much for Icey's work here to get you into the flow and enjoying the pulse. Adding to the layers of Icey's textures are vocal samplings from time to time, trance-ish pulsation and a hint of glitchyness to help ferment some pleasant acid bite. The music is a bit on the understated side at times but I think that's also what helps the hook. And this doesn't interfere with the energy and even sultry qualities awaiting your enjoyment herein. Take a dark, evocative trip to innerspace with Merka's "I'll Be Here." The Drummatic Twins' "Feelin' Kinda Strange" is an acidy discoteque clubhouse track for a psychedelic future, catchy as hell with high energy vox. DJ Icey's own "Come Closer" boasts thick beats and dense acid power in an offbeat house experiment. And for some true oddity, check out "Grizzle," a charged up electroshocked, hooky piece of gritty dance. And there's more where that came from.

5 out of 5 stars DJ Icey zags and zigs through a phenomenal mix of breaks........2006-03-30

This is a very diverse and explosive breakbeat mix. From soulful and reggae sounds, to rap, to disco, and even to a vocal track sounding very reminiscent of freestyle. Icey covers it all in an exciting and very energetic mix. Tracks 7 through 11 really heat up, with General Midi's breakbeat rap, and then onto Dj Icey's own new sexy track, Come Closer, complete with breathy female vocals. Even past track 11, right to the end of the mix, it's high energy, pounding beats. I can't recommend this one enough. It's a winner from top to bottom, without a dull track in sight. Also check out the Drumattic Twins new breaks mix CD, Finger Lickin Export 01.

5 out of 5 stars I expected More.......2006-03-29

I've been an icey fan since about 96 and i've been spinning since 97. I was looking forward to this cd, especially since it's on DISTINCTIVE which is my favorite label. I expected more from this cd, and a couple of these tracks are too old to be putting on a y4k release. overall, i'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. but, if you're a true icey fan, you should probably check it out. if you're looking for a good breaks cd, check out breakspoll present volume 1 mixed by the breakfastaz.

5 out of 5 stars Icey does it again!!!.......2006-03-27

i've been an icey fan since around '97 and i can say that this is truely one of his best works yet.. his mixing style on this is amazing..
a truely solid break mix from the drop of the first beat till the end!!

      Album Description

Uberzone (aka Q) takes up the challenge and mixes this new installment of the ever-popular Y4K series. His dynamic and eclectic style, make this edition a breakbeat goodie bag not to be missed!

As one of the leading American breaks DJ/producers since the mid-90's, Uberzone singles such as "Botz" and the Space Cadet EP have been called classics by the likes of UK breaks connoisseurs Rennie Pilgrem and Tayo and Q's following among the breaks fraternity is nothing but rabid. Recent sets at Fabric (London) and Winter Music Conference in Miami only see him further building his following.

Uberzone's mix is one that is sure to bring any room to life. The tracklisting pretty much speaks for itself with productions by breaks innovators from both sides of the Atlantic. The huge "Turn It Out" by Meat Katie vs Christian J and "Soul Makossa" (Afrika Bambataa vs Uberzone) by Manu Dibango sit deservedly within this list. Tracks by Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, General Midi and Uberzone himself also feature to make this an absolutely lethal compilation.

                Album Description

Distinctive Breaks’ Y4K CD series goes from strength to strength â€" previously mixed by Hybrid, Soul of Man, Ali B, and, most recently, Evil Nine.

Nubreed, one of Australia’s best dance exports, and Distinctive Breaks are proud to present the latest installment on Y4K. Featuring exclusive tracks from Si Begg, Stanton Warriors, Andy Page, as well as a few gems from Nubreed â€" Y4K is intelligent, musical and not without its fair share of dirty gritty sounds and basslines.

With the intensity and insanity of SOTEG and Si Begg, to the musical wonderment of tracks from Ils and Tipper, to solid vocals from the likes of Stanton Warriors, Y4K is a smart mix that should be in any discerning listener’s collection.

                5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2006-07-16

I just bought this CD today, and it is one of those CD's that when it ends you replay it again. I am up to my fourth time now. Then, each time you hear it, it just gets better. The sounds are amazing and complex and beautiful. It has a bit of everything for every mood - some soft melodic parts and some crazy "what's going on!" parts, if you know what I mean - you will, anyway.
I also didn't know what to expect; I am sort of new to breaks, with the other people I am familiar with and like being Krafty Kuts and Q45 (from the "fuzzy breaks" CD). But I heard Annie Nightingale recently for the first time and could hardly believe such music existed, so since then have been wondering how to find out what to buy. And this is exactly what I was hoping to find.

I picked this up not really knowing what to expect. This music combines the best of the Matrix with electronica ... it is excellent, sophisticated, and fresh.
