    1 out of 5 stars Don't bother... even completists........2006-11-01

Cashing in on the franchise? I'm not sure, perhaps. Is it horrible? No. Are there 10,000 other chill out CDs like this? Absolutely. It's just a very average collection of music. You work hard for your money and there's no need to waste it on ordinary music. Sometimes people, like myself, buy just because they liked the others so much and they don't want to miss out on something, even if it's just not quite at the level as the others... in this case, just don't bother! You'll be disappointed.

If you're new to the series, start with the excellent Vol. 1 and then maybe Vol. 2. Other good choices that are similar (and probably how you got here) is the Buddha Bar series, Nirvana Lounge series, anything by Claude Challe, Siddhartha series, or the excellent Barrio Latino series, all of which are head and shoulders over this release.

I've also written two list manias (click my reviewer name) of over 50 excellent CDs in this genre, some of which you won't of heard before and is hard to find, all of which I'd happily fork out $20 for and you'll most likely play time and time again. No need to drop your money on average music like this.

2 out of 5 stars Freeze out in Paris, Vol. 5.......2006-08-22

Freeze out in Paris Vol. 5,

I am not sure where things went wrong but Chill out is simply not the same compilation started by David Visan and Co. The music is just not as well mixed and appears to be rushed. The original ambiance is gone. To make matters worse, since Chill out in Paris, Vol. 4, the cover tells you "Over 100.00 volumes sold with previous volumes" I am not going to analyze the flea market billboard lingo, but I must say for a Buddha Bar like CD the big number of previously sold albums is unjustifiable. Lots of low quality music sells volumes. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this one. Buy Nirvana Lounge, Buddha Bar or Happiness (by Claude Challe).

5 out of 5 stars Amazingly beautiful collection ..........2006-04-29

Whatever the source, this is one of the most beautiful collections of so-called chill I've ever heard. If you're looking for wallpaper music, this may not be it, because one cannot help listening. From the almost operatic vocals (along the line of Emma Shapplin) to the loungey mixes (and excellent sound production), no one will complain when you put this in the player.

3 out of 5 stars warning on counterfeit versions of this CD.......2005-08-10

I am editing my previously posted review of this CD because the compilation "Chill Out in Paris 4" that I bought from an Amazon third-party reseller is, in fact, a fake.

I've checked the Amazon tracklist on this CD against the copy that I received in the mail, and the playlist on my copy of "Chill Out in Paris IV" (note that the one I received has a Roman numeral IV and not a 4) does not at all match the playlist cited here on Amazon. In fact, the playlist on the "Chill Out in Paris IV" CD that I received consists of tracks lifted almost entirely from Buddha Bar VII. The first seven tracks on my CD are from the "Sarod" CD of Buddha Bar VII and the next eight tracks are from the "Sarangi" disk of Buddha Bar VII. Then somebody threw in B-Tribe's "Angel Voices" to finish it off, which is the only track not on the two-CD Buddha Bar compilation, that I can tell.

This CD appears to be a promo for the Buddha Bar compilation and not a brand-new release after all. In fact, even the art work on the CD that I received does not match the art work shown here, and as I pointed out earlier, the one I received has a "IV" versus a "4."

I have all three previous Chill Out in Paris compilations (those mixed by David Visan), and I think that all three of them are really good and hold up well over time -- gorgeous tracks, eclectic, evocative. However, this one is a real head scratcher.

I would love to hear from other buyers to see if they received the same peculiar CD that I did. I believe that there is a counterfeit CD making the rounds with the same name as this one. I advise you to buy your copy directly from Amazon and not from a reseller! Let the buyer beware. Thanks.

This is the best volume of the series (even surpasses Volume 4) .. HIGHLY Recommended ....

    5 out of 5 stars World Beats!.......2005-10-06

Just bought this album and can't get enough of it. It's a beautiful collection of world grooves and chilled electronic beats. A must. I especially love Gia [Said Mrad Remix] by Despina Vandi. I have the single to Gia and this remix is not on it. Said Mrad has remixed it to sound more Middle Eastern than some of the other remixers for Gia. I also love Mariguana Cha Cha Cha by Stefi Akos. What a wonderful track. Totally upbeat, fun and groovy! I think she is singing in Hungarian but not totally sure. It's a great though. Ya Ghayeb by Fadl Shaker is another wonderful song on this collection. It's Arabic and he's from Egypt I believe. It's a mellow song that kicks off the "Confusion" CD. I love it. Anyway all of the tracks on here are great. Definitely check it out.

5 out of 5 stars Taste of Joy.......2003-10-19

I am always in a neverending search for great music, especially music that embraces traditional world music and modern dance beats which as a fan, I refer to as "lifestyle" compilations. This term "lifestyle" is used to describe this type of music which can be both listened to as background music for yoga and other forms of meditation or just to enjoy at the home or office, like I do. The George V Records has managed to release high quality lifestyle compilations mixed by various djs with and without the Buddha Bar imprint. I am a big fan of the compilation mixed cds under the Buddha Bar imprint, namely "Buddha Bar" and now "Chill Out in Paris" series. My first exposure to the Buddha Bar series was with the first "Living Theater Vol.1" mixed by Joseph Baldassare, and then the second "Chill Out in Paris" (mixed by Dave Visan). I didn't really get into the Buddha Bar-related series until I heard the fifth "Buddha Bar" compilation earlier this year and that is when I just fell in love with the positivie energy the music exhudes.

I just bought "Chill Out in Paris 3" today when I came across the unibox at a local record store. This is the only time I would be willing to shell out more than $20 for a cd. I know for sure that any cd with the Buddha Bar imprint it is going to be high quality music and well worth the money. While "Barlotti" embraces latin music, "Buddha Bar" is influenced by Asian music, the "Chill Out in Paris" series is more influenced by traditional Middle Eastern music. The results is always amazing. If I thought "Chill Out in Paris 2" was excellent, then "Chill Out in Paris 3" is magnificent. Dave Visan does a marvelous job at mixing and making sure the songs flows cohesively together (unlike Dave Waxman and the cheesy, predictable "Ultra Chilled" series). I thought I was in heaven when I was listeng to this 2-cd mixed compilation.

Like with most Buddha Bar-related lifestyle compilations, "Chill Out in Paris 3" is split into two discs. The first disc is called "Fusion". It is the chill out, relaxing disc that would be ideal to listen to while having a cocktail. Disc 2 is "Confusion" which the music picks up the pace and has more of a uptempo beat to the music. The perfect club music to dance to. Both cds are exceptional and I just loved them with an immense passion. There are 30 songs overall, 15 songs on each disc, an hour's worth of airtime. Listening to "Chill Out in Paris 3" makes me feel like I am in a Parisian nightclub, sipping on a cosmopolitan. I wish there were more cds like "Chill Out in Paris" and less of "Ultra Chilled". I will never see any of the songs that Dave Visan picks out on other chill out compilations and I find that very refreshing.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation - Just Not Technically a Chill Out CD.......2006-01-15

'Chill' is a technically a dance track track that unwinds you as the sun is coming up and the DJ wants to ease you into the morning. It must have a beat - otherwise, it's not a chill out track.

The term has been lifted by others to mean anything meditative, new age, world, soft, etc ... so while this is a fine compilation, it is not really a chill out CD.

One disc is actually a fine collection of Trip Hop/near Gao Trance tracks and it's mostly Indian (hence the Gao) but that doesn't really matter, it's solid trip-hop but it's misleading to label anything with vocals in another language 'chill' but I guess it's easier to sell than New Age/World or Trip Hop.

The other disc is also fine (mostly) Indian tracks with some Spanish tracks that is a nice collection of solid tracks but it is most definitely not chill - but again, they didn't want to scare people by labeling it 'world' music which is what it really is.

So, if you're looking for true 'chill' dance tracks - these discs aren't it. If you want some pretty solid trip hop tracks performed by non-English artists, one of the disc will make you happy. If you like to broaden your music horizons, the other disc is fine collection of interesting 'world' tracks so really just minus some stars for trying to mislead you.

1 out of 5 stars This is the worst Chill Out compilation I've heard.......2004-07-17

If this music is considered Chill Out, then apparently David Visan changed the definition of the genre and didn't tell the rest of the world. How french of him! I don't know WHAT this music is. It was either so dull, it bored me to tears, or it was so annoying that I just skipped right through the tracks. I MUCH MORE recommend Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes series, which sounds like ambience meets Edith Piaf (awesome!) and any of the Cafe del Mar series mixed by Jose Padilla (volumes 1 -6). Chill Out in Paris 2 was a total bust and I regret even having bought it.

    5 out of 5 stars amaaazzzzinnnnggggg!!!!!!.......2004-04-24

could there ever be a better chill out collection? the answer is NO WAY!!! just lay down and close your eyes while listeniny to that great mix of Arabic and Spanish rythems. Let the music take you there. Enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Different but not good chill out.......2004-01-06

When I saw the CD first, I had great expectations. This cd is different than other chill out cd, i accept that. The cd has diversity in it and different tones and rthyms. If you want to listen to some strange music, this cd is good for you. but if we look at it as a chill out cd, i would not recommend it to you. Ministry of Sound's Chillout Sessions , Pompougnac's Hotel Costes cds are much better than this one. For archieve, it is a good cd to have anyways.

5 out of 5 stars Five stars doesn't cover it........2002-12-25

David Visan's "Buddha Bar IV" and first "Chillout in Paris" compilation were, to my ear, uneven at best, displays of a wide range of material from the sublime to the uninspired to the downright horrible. But take it from a listener who's addicted to world/chillout music, and who is always seeking out my next, new "fix": "Chill Out in Paris 2" is without a question the ABSOLUTE BEST CD I own of this genre. It surpasses any of my favorites from the "Hotel Costes" and "Cafe del Mar" series. In fact, the only recording that stands up to "Chill Out in Paris 2" is the over-the-moon masterpiece, "Buddha Bar 1" by Claude Challe.

Put this CD in your system and you'll be on a vacation that Alice in Wonderland would envy. Buy it, you can't go wrong. Any of the reviewers who gave this aural gem less than five-stars is simply not a fan of this style of music. Superb, utterly original selections, recorded, mixed and blended beyond perfection.
