3 out of 5 stars Fresh.......2007-02-20

In "Voyeur", Sanborn joins forces with Steve Gadd on Drums and Marcus miller on Bass, delivering a relaxing and funky R&B Jazz album.
Although short, this is in general a nice fresh album, not overly memorable but quite pleasing.
Recommended mainly for all Sanborn's fans.

If you like this artist, or looking for his best album so far; check out "Pearl"; you will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Genius.......2005-11-01

I am OBSSESSED with this album!
Being a bass player, I feel that this is easily Marcus' best album that he ever did with Sanborn, the music is just so pure, soulful, and just damn funky. I get chills down my spine everytime I listen to it.

3 words baby..."RUN FOR COVER"!!!!

5 out of 5 stars 2 days..........2004-08-26

That's how long i've owned this amazing CD, but i have played it 14 times...i love everything about it. and to agree to disagree, i think "Wake Me" is the funkiest thing on the CD. I love all 7 tunes and wish that it was more along the lines of 50 minutes and 11 tunes, but who am i to mess with genius. David is was and will always be the inventor of soulful smooth jazz!

4 out of 5 stars Some of Sanborn's best!.......2004-07-23

After owning the LP, then cassette, I finally bought this on CD. This is some great music from great musicians: Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Steve Gadd, Hiram Bullock, et al.

Bad news first: "Wake Me When It Over" has not aged well. This one song is the only dated music on the record, however. Also, at a total playing time of 29:45, you're not exactly getting the most bang for your buck.

Now the good news: "All I Need is You" could be the steamiest, sexist, smoothest piece of music ever recorded. EVER! This track alone is worth the price of the CD.

I'll program my CD player to skip track 3 and listen to these smooth tones often. I would love to give this five stars, but with 50 minutes of room left on the CD, maybe they should have put As We Speak on the same CD for a world-class 2-for-1 (...)

5 out of 5 stars Smooth as Silk (hence S.O.S).......1999-09-27

Voyeur by David Sanborn back in the late 70's was the begining of love for jazz. To this day when I listen to this CD it takes me back to a time when things were so simple and uncomplex. Thus when I have a need for a "S.O.S" transistion from today's stress and strife, Voyeur, with the smooth sounds Mr. Sanborn creates melts away today's problems like hot butter melting on pancakes. I truely Love this album. Thanks David.

5 out of 5 stars Slighlty dark, edgy, pleasing, hot...........2006-09-19

This album is one of the rare few that has lived up to my expectations. I've been diving head on into psychedelically inclined music for the last few years now; starting off with Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, Juno Reactor, Hallucinogen, etc...and this album lives up to the clean style I've come to expect from excellent psychedelic music, but has a flavor very much still its own.

The album seems very Sci-Fi friendly to me. It has an overall dark metallic feeling, low vibrations with a rhythmic pulse that is soft and deep. This is not the rave music that some other groups (like Astral Projection) border on. Instead it's steady, cold frequencies with a lot of high quality mixing involved. Perfect chill music, similar to portions of the Matrix soundtrack. There is a distinctly `quasi human' feeling to the album...like it was meant for a time in the future when the different between humans and machines gets difficult to distinguish.

All in all, this is a hot album for Psychedelic fans, or even for people who want something with a slightly darker cool chill feeling. 5 stars all the way!

5 out of 5 stars Top-notch dark electronic.......2006-07-09

I really took a gamble with this album, I'm a fan of delirium, frontline assembly, synesthesia and most of the other Leeb projects but I had never heard of noise unit. I am very relieved that this is easily one of the best electronic albums I've ever heard.

Voyeur is an incredibly polished and deeply atmospheric journey into dark realms that showcases the evolving talents of Bill Leeb. There are layers upon layers of complex synths and vocals going on here that evoke images of a dark, sinister, high-tech future world. It could almost be another front line assembly album, except the vocals are very minimal and subtle.

This is a great CD to listen to while reading a science-fiction novel or something. Voyeur is a stunning achievement in dark-ambient soundscapes, I can only hope that Leeb makes another album in this vein.

2 out of 5 stars Snooze Unit.......2006-05-28

Ah the illustrious genre of electronica, where semi-anonymous lifetime knob-twiddlers like Bill Leeb and Chris Peterson can be hailed as groundbreakers, just because they know how to sequence slightly eccentric beats and scare some spooky new noises out of synthesizers. Apparently Noise Unit are noteworthy for a mixture of house, industrial, ambient, trance, jungle, and who knows how many other vaguely differentiated styles, but they all end up sounding the same when they're sent through enough processors, as they are here. Add to that the anemic, soulless, and completely unnecessary attempts at vocals, and the even more semi-anonymous so-called guest stars whose contributions you'd have to be a programmer to even notice, and you have the modern electronica approach of Noise Unit. Granted, there is a somewhat haunting aspect to the Noise Unit sound, with good cases being found in "Illicit Dreams" and "Tighten Up." But this album's only glimmer of near-personality is a pretty good groove in "Liberation," which then is promptly ruined by a pathetic attempt at rapping. Most of the rest of the album features snooze-inducing exercises in spookiness that drift off into a cloudy haze, the most telling examples of this being "Seclusion" and "Paranoid." And this album is docked one additional star thanks to the gratuitous sexploitation of the artwork. [~doomsdayer520~]

5 out of 5 stars What a comeback! Now one of my FAVORITES!.......2006-04-26

I have been a huge fan of Leeb and Fulber's works (either together or separate) for almost a decade: Front Line Assembly, Synaesthesia, Delerium, Conjure One, Noise Unit, Equinox, Intermix, Cyberaktif, Pro-Tech. They have a great dynamic sound and this Noise Unit album, Voyeur, utilizes a lot of their other works while maintaining that Noise Unit feel.

Drill had a great industrial sound to it but I had always thought it a bit dry. Voyeur keeps that great hard, electronic sound but also wettens it up a bit, making for some fat tunes.

Illicit Dreams is a GREAT song to start the CD off with, perfect choice. It comes in vague, get's chaotic then BAM, it's off with that great Noise Unit beat. I could groove to Illicit Dreams all day and night.

In my opinion, the album is SOLID and is pure drive from begining to end. It has climbed to be the top of my favorites from all of Leeb and Fulber's works.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptionally refined.......2006-04-21

this album, along with "civilization", represents for me a bit of a turning point for the FLA chaps. gone are the predictable sledgehammer beats and chugging (and way too predictable) basslines of the last 10 years. instead, the rivethead cliches of old have been supplanted by spacey, intricate beats and soundscapes with fleeting and subtle melodies. i was afraid that with the success of delerium they'd forget about their more "industrial" projects (or worse, would continue doing them, but without any heart). my worries were for nought. keep it up!

4 out of 5 stars Even better than you've heard - a great comeback.......2006-08-26

Believe the hype...for once...on first listen, you can already tell that this could be Berlin's best CD yet - great songwriting, strong vocals, updated arrangements that look back & look forward, all the while retaining that trademark "Berlin" sound, it's everything you hoped for in a Berlin "comeback" CD - and more! Terri Nunn's vocals never sounded better - the more recent "4PLAY" CD by Berlin is really a letdown, since she doesn't need to rely on lame covers, but THIS CD is the real deal - really, a total surprise from out of nowhere - a solid CD all the way!

5 out of 5 stars A MODERN CLASSIC.......2006-01-15

I'm a busy dude. I don't take the time to write a lot of reviews. I'll only make the effort if the album is truly, truly deserving of one. This one is. I can listen to it straight through for all its ingenius beauty and passion. The whole album is chock full of substance and melody and edge and all that good stuff. Truly a modern classic. 10 stars.

5 out of 5 stars An absolute classic.......2005-11-09

Clearly Berlins best ever recording. The lyrics are exceptionally well written, with the powerful Lost My Mind and World Is Waiting exponents of mature writing and silky delivery. Terri Nunn continues to deliver her beautifully powerful, yet measured, vocals seducing the listener with her every word. This album defines what classic adult rock should be - mature, passionate, powerful and seductive. A keeper.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!!!.......2004-03-31

BEST CD I"VE HEARD IN YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

Terri's voice is like "buttah"....you know....BUTTER!!!!!! Honey, silk......and whatever else is smooth, creamy and lush. The entire cd is like an equisite piece of priceless jewelry....with each song being an individual gemstone. "All I Ever Need"...is my fave...but they are all truly lovely....Old Berlin is retro, fun,cool...and priceless...but NEW Berlin is evolved, melodic, music that conjures images of color and lightness. The best i've heard in ages from a band....and Terri Nunn is sooooo incredibly beautiful/sexy/cool/talented.....need i say more? BUY THIS!!!!! You will be spinning it for years to come!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Glad Berlin is back!.......2002-10-23

The CD has quite a few riffs from old songs, but that just makes it a better come-back album. Teri Nunn updates the Berlin sound for today's music, but still sounds like Berlin. Great CD.

Although it's been a while since they put an album out,Berlin are still sounding as good as ever.
Obviously Terri Nunn has not forgotten how to use her sexy voice to make great music and if the cover picture's are anything to go by the rest of her has got sexyer with age,but that aside the Voyeur disc is definately worthwhile buying.
The sound of the album is a bit more upbeat than their old music, but it is definately still Berlin and it sound's great.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Essential release.......2006-08-21

A chilly masterpiece. Explores the stark side of alienation and emotional abandonment. "Take It On The Chin", the album's closer, is the best of the best. Flirty, dirty, snobby, classic. Never has there been a better synth-laden kiss-off. "Merc Man" is Kim at her most strange, and "Thrill Of The Grill" is a bar-room rocker that simply shakes the doors off the hinges. When Kim sings about escaping in a coupe-de-ville, you are there with her. "Undertow" charges along with desperation, while "Breaking Away From Sanity" has a pleading emotional braveness rarely heard in music today. "Don't Tell Them That You Know Me" and "Looker" both successfully capture the alienation and desperation of intelligent, troubled people. And of course, the title track sizzles. Buy this. Buy this. Buy this.

5 out of 5 stars "Voyeur" was censored by MTV in 1982!.......2005-03-22

September 1982 - Carnes explored hard rock in the album "Voyeur ." EMI staff thought 6 tracks would be a potential chart single - but only 2 tracks charted in Billboard. "Voyeur" single peaked #28, and the album reached #48.

Next year "Does It Make You Remember" would peak #36.

February 1983 - Kim Carnes was nominated for a Best Pop Vocal Performance (female) Grammy Awards , for "Voyeur." She didn't win, but just the nomination was a recognition of a remarkable singing and songwriting talent, with a great beaty and feeling.

What Kim Carnes have said about "Voyeur":

"I've had some songs I've written that record company - people at my record company didn't want to be on the album. I had a video off my Voyeur album - was the title cut, 'Voyeur.' And MTV I think had been in existence maybe a year, year-and-a-half, and it was very different then as far as what they show now. And 'Voyeur,' they would only show at night, like, after a certain time. There was a little bit of a violent scene in the video, and by today's standarts, it would be nothing, but back then - imagine MTV censoring something. It's - but they did. Now Europe didn't. It was played, played all over Europe, but here, it was censored." - she confessed to Ken Paulson in a 2003 interview.

5 out of 5 stars "Are you hot tonight?".......2005-02-27

"Voyeur" was the 1982 follow-up to Kim Carnes's 1981 smash "Mistaken Identity." The album was not really a success at all. And unfortunately (though fortunately for me) Kim Carnes became part of the big corporate money-making-music machine of the 1980s, churning out album after album with little or no artistic control or input, with little or no success.

"Voyeur" was the first single, and really the only hit ... and that was even a stretch considering it only made #29 pop. But there are many more wonderful songs besides this one on the album, including "Looker," "Say You Don't Know Me," and "Undertow." But my favorite is the power-ballad "Does it Make You Remember." Kim sings this one with such conviction and such passion ... that you really begin to feel sorry for her, and wish her career in the pop/rock mainstream was longer and more lucrative.

Like many other artists of the era (Sheena Easton and Laura Branigan come to mind), Kim deserved to be a superstar.

5 out of 5 stars Long-lost gem back in print .......2004-09-20

I waited for the re-release of this amazing album for years after my casette player chewed up my original casette tape back in the mid-80s. While possibly lacking the mass appeal of _Mistaken Identity_ this material is an even better showcase for Kim Carnes distinctive vocal charms. Possibly a little too idiosyncratic for the drive-by listener, but if you like _Mistaken Identity_ you have to *love* this album. Get it while you can.

4 out of 5 stars the Before And After review.......2003-12-22

Kim Carnes released Voyeur in September 1982.

    BEFORE:
Kim Carnes finally had the blockbuster she'd worked years for with her previous album. Mistaken Identity was a #1 blockbuster that yielded two smash hits, the #1 Bette Davis Eyes (which won a Grammy months before this albums release) and Draw Of The Cards. EMI-America assumed lightning would strike twice, would it?

    AFTER:
The answer was no. Voyeur stalled at #49 on the charts, and while it scored 2 top 40 hits, neither song was even able to equal Draw Of The Cards' popularity. She still received a Grammy nomination for best rock female though. While the album looked like a bomb, it actually did fairly well, Mistaken Identity would've not gone to #1 if not for Bette Davis Eyes.

1982's Voyeur was not a big success for Kim Carnes, but it does not mean it's not a worthy album. The production is very 1982, but it works to her benefit because Kim's voice works so well with the material. Neither single was a smash, but I believe Does It Make You Remember (the second single, which peaked at #36) could've been a top 20 hit. For the most part, the album is a sequel (and sequels generally aren't as good) as Mistaken Identity, but if you are a Kim Carnes fan, get it.

      4 out of 5 stars A very "kind" album.......2000-04-30

I'm surprised no one's stepped forward to review Raz's first release. It's a very tripped out, smoke-hazed, heavily stoned, jazzy, trancey, DnBish at times release. You have to hear it for yourself to truly appreciate it. Definitely merits 4 stars, maybe 1/2 more, but not quite "perfect" or "classic" enough for 5. Besides, you can't rate an album lower than 3 stars for covering one of the Pixies' all time best songs, "Where Is My Mind?" Bad ass!

Lyrically, RTV is tight, with "Paid Voyeur" and "Ass for Cash" as standouts. Raz is one white boy who can really "rap." Pretty good for a European dude; he's German, Dutch, or Danish - not sure which.

          Product Description

A famous producer of the French and African music scenes, François BREANT was also the author of two albums in the late Seventies, sought-after because of their perfection and of the different innovations that they included. Indeed, this man is a truly talented keyboardist, naturally looking for innovation. With engineer André HARWOOD, François BREANT found his perfect soul mate to develop his most advanced concepts. The guest musicians, all quite famous (Didier LOCKWOOD, Albert MARCOEUR, Pascal ARROYO, Klaus BLASQUIZ, Stella VANDER, Guy DELACROIX, Marc PERRU, Emmanuel LACORDAIRE...) were all met within CRUCIFERIUS !, KAPAK, ERGO SUM and NEMO, as well as in Bernard LAVILLIERS' backing band. The result: an unique blend of electronic musics and Progressive rock with classical influences, difficult to put in any category but still quite easy to grasp, with a particular emphasis on the keyboards analogic sounds. The first part "Sons Optiques" (1979) is the soundtrack of an imaginary film.
