Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fun & funkelicious.......2007-05-16

The fact that this is one non-stop groove makes the disc even more enjoyable. The disc has a cool sound, lots of great beatz and psychedelic effects. The music flows from one song into another; the only tip off that a new song is playing is your perception. One of the best songs is "One of These Days" by Kraak and Smaak(love the name) that is Nina Simonesque but in a more subdued manner with a heavy beat and vocals that come and go(echo) as the horns blend into the groove. It's perfect toe tapping , head bopping music to get you into the mood. Many of the tunes have a funky beat, like "Bay, Bay,Bay" which is like Shaft accelerated on steroids. Other songs that have a funky feel but in a slightly different mode is "Nitty Gritty" where the women's vocals sound like they are coming straight out of the 70's, through a pschedelic time warp. Imagine the Shangrilas updated. The set also has Latin flavors like Joe Batan's "Chick a Boom" that is about as funky as it gets. Think Spanish Harlem retooled for a modern dance groove. Other Latin grooves include "Suite Guaracho Pt.2" by Tata Vasquez that is Latin jazz updated with an electronic groove that morphs into a sambaesque beat all the while keeping it funky. Then there is the mambo stylings of "Won't You Join Me for a Drink"? by Lemon that is based on the 50's dance craze, toned down for the electronica cocktail hour. Need a little more Latin vibe? How about "Moustache" by Qythone where the music gets murky in kitchy way that defies logic but surprisingly sounds good. In the end this disc is just a fun listen, nothing serious, just music to listen to while the mushroom cloud appears on the horizon as the land below your feet is slipping into the ocean; it wouldn't matter what is going on because you have been transported to funky dreamland where everything is groovy. Recommended for your cocktail party to get everyone loose.

2 out of 5 stars Not my favorite Ursula 1000 CD.......2007-05-12

I really enjoy Here Comes Tomorrow, and also like Kinda Kinky. Ursadelica has several tracks that seem to repeat the same beat and noise over and over.

5 out of 5 stars You Will Dance!.......2007-01-25

This just knocked something off my Top Ten list. I don't know what yet, but this is an instant classic. How to describe this... hmm... sorta Funky Techno Lounge with some Latin thrown in. The best part is the track I've been searching months for is on here, and I didn't know it until I played the CD. It's from that Intel commercial with the hottie in the purple shirt dancing around. Intel's site says it's called Mr. Dabada, but actually it's called Born to Funk. Yay! I finally have the whole song!

5 out of 5 stars never be depressed again--really!.......2006-02-16

This disc stayed in my cd player for several weeks after I bought it, and still provides me with that kick after many months of listening. I even made copies for all my friends; sadly, the tracks get electronically separated in the process, disrupting the flow of its non-stop funky groove, so buy this one for yourself to fully appreciate its magic. If this don't make your booty moove...

5 out of 5 stars Fantabulous blast of kitschfunk!.......2005-11-27

Ursula 1000 built this mix album with a total DJ/techno ethos, but the music, beats, singing, EVERYTHING is soaked in a kind of Austin Powers-lounge-martini-swinger vibe. Latin percussion, organs, techno flourishes, horns, analog synths, and kickin' beats are pureed into a simmering greasy funk that is just irresistable. No one cool should listen to this kind of music, but if you have any cool in you at all you will be on your feet shaking your thang all over the place!
