Despite his dedication to free speech, Frank Zappa once dismissed music criticism by likening it to dancing about architecture. No surprise, then, that the British duo Autechre draws critical approbation by making music, seemingly, about architecture. With its pulsing, pneumatic beats, its favor for geometric rhythms, and its utterly mechanical sound sources, Autechre revels in the brittle, the desolate, and the mundane. Tri Repetae++ ranges from the Doppler effects of "C/pach;" to the elastic irritants of "Rsdio." Characteristic of its mission, the CD's scant liner notes admonish listeners: "Incomplete without surface noise." Not quite true, since the album provides much of its own noise, even in the relatively pure realm of digital playback. The U.S. edition includes two earlier EPs, "Anvil Vapre" and "Garbage." --Marc Weidenbaum

fantastic.......2007-06-29
Simply the best trance album of 2006. Listening to the whole album, one can enjoy a definitive experience of "future sound of trance" . Hard to pick a favorite, but one thing is for sure : "Air for Life" will be a true trance classic.
Soft .......2007-06-02
I have heard these guys play before live there are off the chain . It was a little to soft for me But ok . I think they put way to many vocal songs on the cd but over all they did a good job . It was ok but not the best cd over all put in 2006 far from it .
Best CD of 2006!!!!.......2007-05-21
Brand new, thanks! This is the best CD I bought in over a year. A totally cool, chill-out CD. My girlfriend loves it too.
Gracias amigo
HELP I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!!.......2007-03-12
Oh my god, this cd is simply awesome. It is relaxing and upbeat at the same time. I can play it in the car on my way to work when I'm stuck in traffic, or at home at night when I dim the lights, it fits both environments. My best songs are mostly the vocal ones.
Stealing Time- I can relate to the songs lyrics
Can't Sleep- Very etheral vocals, heavenly!
Hope, and Liquid Love- nice instrumentals, flows well with Can't sleep
Alone Tonight- clever lyrics in this song
Overall the album is great and is one of the most unique CD's in my collection.
One of the best cds I own.......2007-03-10
Excellent cd as others have noted.
Most of the tracks are great.
Standouts are: Air for Life, and: Can't Sleep. They are simply superb. Great music with variations of driving beats and soft interludes. Female vocals that are almost hypnotic.
Track: Good for me, is great as well. Soft, with great vocals.
Most of the other tracks are very good, but as noted by one of the other reviewers, I did not like voice of the male singer(s) on what otherwise would have been very good, if not great, songs.

A "Regular People" Review.......2007-03-20
So I was on a Renaissance kick for a while and picked this up, first of all, great value. I enjoy listening to a few of these every now and then but can't take too much at once, check out the previews and if you interested, go for it!
Not stilted but powerfully alive.......2005-02-24
My idea of stilted is to sing these madrigals in the phony, glee-club RP style endured for so many years, that made precious, quaint curiosities of them. The Elizabethan pronunciation on this CD is an eye and ear-opener. We may appreciate how much of that speech actually endures in regional accents in both the US and UK. More importantly, this CD brings us the sounds of the long-forgotten English human beings of the Renaissance, people who drank, fought and screwed, who brought us Shakespeare and the King James Bible. I love this recording.
Better at Italian than English.......2003-07-25
A stilted style and even more stilted attempts at Renaissance-English pronunciation make the English Madrigal disk a terrible disappointment. All emotional content -- the mellow, lumimous melancholy with flashes of fire that characterizes English music at its best -- has been drained in this attempt to kill, skin, and stuff these madrigals in order to present them as museum pieces. The pronunciation problem is particularly galling -- if these songs are going to be made incomprehensible to modern English speakers, where, then, is their cultural home?
The Italian pieces are presentable, enjoyable, and sung with delicacy and a fine sense of the artifice of the Italian madrigal. Although this recording can be moving, these pieces are performed more with reverence than with love. These are well worth hearing, but the French ensembles sing these with a bit more feeling. Try, say, Ensemble Clément Janequin.

Customer Reviews:
Ahh, Florence!!.......2002-10-14
Italian culture during the period from the 14th to the 16th centuries was a whirlwind of developing literature and art, and during this period of history Florence was a political and cultural center to rival Milan or Verona.
I love medieval and renaissance music. They are the "roots" of the great classics centuries later. One does not cultivate a complete education of art by studying only such Masters as Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso, Dali etc. So it is with fine music.
These CD's contain examples of Florentine musical composition from the 1300's and 1500's. The first CD, performed by David Munrow and the Early Music Consort, covers compositions from the 1300's, with many of the works of Francesco Landini, the most prolific Florentine composer of this period. The second covers music from the 1500's and is performed by John Beckett and the Musica Reservata. Here we can see the early development of both symphonic structure and opera.
Both discs are wonderful examples of different periods in the history of musical development, and performed by different conductors and artists. Therefore a comparison between the two is unfair and misplaced. David Munrow and the Early Music Consort are superb, as I have always found them to be, and John Beckett and the Musica Reservata are equally enjoyable.
If you appreciate early music you will find this recording to be a fantastic addition to your collection, and perhaps the definitive collection of early Italian music. If you are unfamiliar with early music or with Italian Renaissance music then these CD's would be a wonderful introduction.
Best Italian Renaissance disc available........2002-06-28
This re-issue of recordings from the early 70's by the Early Music Consort Of London is,in my opinion, the best recordings of Italian Renaissance works. It is the favorite of my eary music discs, and includes music treasures from 14th and 16th century Florence. Great listening on both discs, and worth the money!
Munrow is magnificent.......2001-11-20
The first disc in this collection is delightful. David Munrow's recorder is a genuine treat. The vocal parts blend well and create a festive atmosphere. The Early Music Consort of London offer a splendid performance. By contrast, the second disc, which features Musica Reservata, is a bit disappointing. Two of the solo voices on disc two are harsh, detracting from an otherwise pleasant recording. They may fairly represent the performing style of sixteenth century Florence, but that is small consolation for the twentieth century ear. Nonetheless, the virtues of the first disc are sufficient to warrant purchasing this collection. Munrow is magnificent.
boccacio would be proud.......2000-04-23
this is a superb recording of early music it is well performed and played. the first cd is all music from the 1300,s and the second is from the 1500,s if you like the kind of music this is the cd to get well worth it.

JUST PERFECTION!!.......2006-04-08
I have all of Dmitri's recordings and this is my favorite due to the quality of the songs, Dmitri's mastery of all of them and the really lush orchestrations. All of the songs are just gorgeous and his voice so beautiful that I listen to this all day at work on my portable CD player. I recently saw him in concert and purchased the DVD of the "War Songs" which were featured in the second half of his concert. Of course, I recommend the CD and the DVD as really stunning. However, if I could only listen to one of his CD's, this is my favorite. As a former singer who trained for 15 years, I can tell you that Dmitri's vocal technique is perfect, just perfect! The voice comes from heaven! Don't wait to get this one!
Hvorostovsky...........again, magic.......2006-02-14
Moscow Nights - This collection is emotionally draining, sad; the minor keys, the great poets and composers, an era unexpressed to Americans. It is a revelation, tended by one of the most beautiful of Russian voices. Listen to it in pieces, in a quiet space, and ponder. Dmitri commands an opera stage - two visits to Queen of Spades at the Met- can lead to no other conclusion. However, it is his quiet recollections of Russian folk music, Russian sacred music, and Soviet music that arouses his greatest talents. This is a recording to be treasured.
hvorostovsky does it again.......2005-05-01
This is the latest installment of the succesfull Hvorostosky/Orbelian collaboration. In "I met you my love" the spotlight was on the socalled Russian Romances, russian art songs of the 19e century. Then came " Where are you my brothers" a collection of Russian war songs. This title contains a collection of the best post war(50s&60s) songs. If you love melodious songs in minor key this is it.The selection is quiet varied and everybody will have his or her own favourites. For me there was'nt a redundant song. The singing is as always faultless and inspired, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra plays topnotch and the arrangments by Evgeny Stesyuk are as always beautifull. But be warned this cd can have a depressing effect because besides being beautifull this music is also mostly very moving. Buy if you love russian music and good musicianship you can't go wrong with this one.

I listen to this CD every single day. I have all of the CDs that have these songs on them, but it's a lot easier to have them all on one. The best songs from all of his CDs. My absolute favorite song is "When Sunday Comes."
It is the bomb.......2004-05-04
I really love the songs on this cd. When I heard it was coming out I was not going to get it but when my aunt had it I decided to listent to it and I love it especially "Bless Me". That song has an annointing on it. As a matter a fact the whole cd is annointed. I am just a young college freshman who has been listen to gospel since I was 13.

BEYOND EXCELLENCE.......2006-05-17
I am shocked to see that people write such wonderful reviews about Donald Lawrence but I don't see any about Bible Stories, which is without a doubt one of the BEST Gospel CD's EVER. I can't even single out songs... because they are all wonderful, you know what... I think I will single out a few! "Message for the Saints" and "Didn't It Rain" are just AMAZING tracks. I mean, amazing amazing amazing.... if you missed this album you are missing out on True and Filling food for the soul. This has got to be apart of any Gospel fans collection. I can't say enough about it... the first song I heard by Donald Lawrence was "Message for the Saints" and I was amazed at the character of the song, what I mean by that is... that blending of different sounds and octaves it was just a really uplifting song and it still has the same power today as it did back then. All I have to say is, if you don't have this cd GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT. If you do, enjoy it!

Customer Reviews:
a great set. hypnotic and complex in emotion and execution........2006-05-22
this is some of my favorite electronic music. this set, combining the full length tri repetae with the EPs anvil vapre and garbage, has some great hypnotic and complex songs. i'm not the greatest fan of electronica, but these guys can really pull it off. i find this to be very easy to listen to as well.
tri repetae begins on the more abrasive and complex side and starts to mellow out after a while into lighter territory. the first four tracks are quite harsh, but not in a very brutal way (this is certainly not extreme music). all of the first four tracks have complex beats, subtle synth melodies, back ground sounds, higher pitched noises, and sometimes drones that add to the overall sound. the album starts loosening up with stud, which may be a bit too long, but is a cool chilled out song, and on into eutow, which despite having strange synths has a much easier to grasp beat than say, clipper. things get really get great with overand, my favorite track on the record, a totally infectious spaced out piece.
Anvil Vapre is a great ep. second bad vilbel is a bit weird because it mixes a rather commercial beat with very heavy contrasting sounds. my favorite track on there is second peng, probably the darkest song on the whole set, and deffinetly a great weird song.
garbage is really solid. garbagemx36 may be my favorite autechre song, mixing rhythmic complexity, moody sounds, and a couple of really heavy, deep synth lines. Vietrmx21 closes the whole thing up with the only beatless song, and it really is a great ambient song.
now about the overall sound of these recordings, to me autechre is an entity that seems to exist within contrasting sounds. think about the more complex songs here, you have heavy beats, light beats, smooth sounds, rough sounds, melodies, fast and slow sounds, sounds with echoes and sounds without echoes, drones, and this all happens at once during the climaxes. while it may seem unsettling, with a few listens it all makes sense. because of the heavy beats there is always something to look back to if your mind starts to get confused.
when i read people saying this is such an extreme or grating record i'm fairly supprised. sure their later recordings were a bit brutal, but this record, in the middle of their discography, shows their progression in a great way. and they were still using lots of cool melodies when these records were recorded. maybe its because i listen to Iannis Xenakis and early Swans, but still, if you're unsure about getting this record because some people thought it was too grating, it might be because they didn't have any patients. but still, this isn't the hardest album to get into.
seriously, if you give it a shot there is a lot of depth here. my favorite tracks over all are: overand, garbagemx36, rotar, and second peng.
An awesome and historically influential electronica album!.......2006-01-01
Like many have stated before, Autechre's "Tri Repetae++" really sounds like it was recorded inside some sort of futuristic robot factory (this is the case for the first 3 songs, anyway). The way they recorded it is actually pretty interesting too - they handmade all their equipment so they could get the right sound they wanted. That in itself adds a cool perspective to the experience when listening to the album. As a whole, though, the album is unfortunately uneven (that's mainly the first disc here, the second one fairs much better in that regard), but it does have several great highlights. The first 3 tracks on the first disc deliver a 1-2-3 punch that the rest of the album struggles to keep up with. The rest of the songs aren't bad, and some of them contain interesting moments, but you probably won't be listening to them very often (still referring to the first disc, practically all of the second disc is great). As an historically important album and one with several great electronica songs, "Tri-Repetae++" is a classic (it has a bunch of filler, but having 18 tracks helps dull the effect). Played all the way through the album isn't that good, but if you play single tracks it's great. Very highly recommended for electronica fans, especially since it's basically 2 great albums for the price of one.
Highlights include:
"Dael"
"Clipper"
"Leterel"
"Overand"
"Rsdio"
"Second Bad Vilbel"
"Second Scepe" (to an extent)
"Second Scout"
"Second Peng"
"Garbagemx36" (it's pretty decent)
"Bronchusevenmx24"
"Vietrmx21"

No review needed. If you're new to Autechre, buy it. If you already own anything else by them, buy it. Enjoy.
Arguably their most cerebral work; and a good place to start........2005-08-06
This is the first Autechre album I ever bought, and it's still my favorite. There is something uniquely captivating about these particular sounds; these particular environments.
"Vietrmx21", the last track of the second CD, is stunning in its beauty.

this cd is so harsh, so.....umm....mechanical, that it is very hard to listen to. but, after a few listens, it really grabbed me.
in my opinion, the best song on this cd is the second song on the first disc: "clipper"
this song is scary. this is the only song i have ever heard that scared me. literally, i was shaking. trembling. it was an emotional overload......this song is powerful in ways that no other song is (or could ever hope to be).
i'm giving this cd three stars. but, only because of the song "clipper".
absolutely amazing.
buy this cd for "clipper" or, download "clipper" off of kazaa. i don't care. but you need, no, you MUST hear this song.
