DJ Tiesto breaks out his sunniest wax for Nyana, a 2-CD romp through bright melodies and immense rhythms. Revered in the world's dance clubs for his marathon live sets, Tiesto is noted as well for remixes of songs that brilliantly use ethereal female voices to achieve giant peaks of trance bliss, like Delerium's "Silence" . He uses the trick here on disc 1 with Conjure One's "Tears from the Moon" featuring Sinead O'Connor's familiar whispering scream. It's a highlight, along with Planisphere's epic "Totem." Disc 2 eases back from the big highs and lows, but still offers happy thumps via tracks like "Remember (Summer Sun)" and a schizophrenic collaboration with Filterheadz on a remix of the Roc Project's Never. While Tiesto may never be as good on a mix record as he is in a club, Nyana provides an ideal summer party starter, as well as an effective pick-me-up on grey weather days. --Matthew Cooke

From URB Magazine
Having moved up the DJ circuit in recent years to clearly establish himself as one of the world's top spinners, Dutchman DJ Tiesto's latest effort is bound to be met with a hearty amount of excitement. Known for his female vocal—led trance sets, Tiesto shows his diversity, kicking off Disc 1: Outdoor on a tech-house vibe. It seems his mission with Nyana is to demonstrate his adaptability but with the arrival of tracks like "Let the Light Shine In" things head back into familiar trance turf. Later, solid tracks such as Conjure One's "Tears from the Moon" and GTR's "Mistral" come off stiffly, leaving the overall experience somewhat generic.Disc 2: Indoor ushers in more melodic trance as Tiesto moves through an inspired groove off the back of gems like Solarstone vs. Sirocco's "Destination" and Holden & Thompson's "Nothing." It's good fun, and is likely to generate a fair amount of commercial success, but ultimately the effort fails to match the live intensity Tiesto has built his reputation on. His attempt at displaying flexibility seems rather half-hearted and the trance selection is so fluffy and inoffensive that it's difficult not to imagine the pernicious hand of the marketing department at work.

1 out of 5 stars Boring, Uninspired.......2007-01-03

This cd is the worst trance, or, for that matter, electronica album i own. None of the tracks are all that great, although I did enjoy Venus, Tears from the Moon, and As the Rush comes. That was about it. I found this album to be very boring, everything sounded so blah, I do not know how people could give this cd a 4 star rating. I have been a big fan of trance since before it got all commercialized (which I believe was around the year 2000...the commercialization, that is), and this cd is, imho, one of "those" cds that fall in with the 9 out of 10 trance records that don't have anything special about them, that don't break any new ground, and don't do anything particularly well. If you want a Tiesto cd that displays his true talent, try Magik 4. Just do yourself a favor and don't buy this cd...I wouldn't even take it for free...I hate wasting space on my hard drive with bad music...

4 out of 5 stars Trance for the masses..........2006-10-29

Tiesto is a master of the trance game. He knows how to choose tracks, he knows how to mix them and he knows how to move the listener. There are moments where I wanted to give this five stars, moments where I wanted to give it three stars.

Though the first four tracks of CD 1, as commented on by many already, are challenging to sit through, at least he tried something different. But beyond this it ventures into familiar terrain. With the exception of track 6, one of the most beautiful pieces of electronica I've heard, up there with Albion's "Air" (as found on Oakey's GU New York) or Derek Howell's "Your Touch" (as found on Nick Warren's GU Shanghai), there are no stellar tracks that stand out, just a consistent, pleasing mix. The second disc is the more consistent but it just enhances what is heard on the first disc.

To a large extent Tiesto has become predictable, kind of like Oakenfold in the sense that he has found that certain sound that appeals to a large number of people and takes the safe route. Tiesto often takes tunes found elsewhere on other mixes but takes them and reworks them into his own mix, his own flow, and it takes on a different sound. But it is still the same recycled tunes. And I found out that he is in cahoots with Reebok sponsoring his name for DJ shoes. Sell out. That is when I thought to give it three stars.

But I just let the two CDs play and there is something about his sound that just takes the me away. It flows, it lifts, it inspires. It's Tiesto doing what he does best and it is hard to argue with the sound he creates. After all, it is about the music. It is easy to pop this mix in and let it play and be carried away for awhile.

Tiesto is the guy to turn to if you wish to introduce someone to the trance/techno sound. As always Tiesto is a safe bet.

4 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2006-07-15

I can't believe I haven't made a review about this in the past but I'm back now!

This is a solid 2 disc album.

First disc is great but starts up slow which for me I really didn't care.

Second disc is for vocal fans if you hate music with vocals burn this disc down! But I really enjoyed this disc. It has the legendary song Beautiful Things.

Overall get this cause trance is changing now a days and this one is a solid album. For those that love trance will like the EVERYTHING about this album.

4.0 out of 5.0

5 out of 5 stars 2- and if i had 3, then 3- thumbs up .......2006-01-17

this set contains some of the best trance, and especially vocal trance i've ever heard. Its a bit dissapointing to listen to a really good song and then hear a really crappy song after. BUT THATS WHY WE HAVE BUTTONS ON OUR STEREO. TRUST me, a really good CD. In search of Sunrise 4 compares but I cant decide which is better. CD 2 is wayy better than cd 1.
Andain- beautiful things (gabriel & dresden mix) is by far the best song on the cd and in the world!!!!

4 out of 5 stars pretty good.......2006-01-14

Without getting too much into it this Album is pretty good. 4 stars for some bad ass tracks. My favs are Tears from the moon, Beautiful things , As the rush comes. All in all worth the money.

    Album Description

Stunning mix compilation from the world's leading trance producer/DJ, named Best International DJ at the Dance Star USA Awards at the 2003 Winter Music Conference in Miami. Along with his trademark trance selections, elements of progressive house, tribal, & techno all weave throughout this set, plus a few choice vocal cuts, most notably Tiesto`s customized remix of 'Venus (Meant To Be Your Lover)' by DJ Cor Fijneman featuring Jan Johnston (who previously sang on Tiesto`s 'Close To You'). While a couple of these selections, such as 'Obsession', a collaboration with Junkie XL taken from Tiesto`s 2002 artist album 'In My Memory', will be familiar to fans, the majority are exclusive to this compilation. 27 tracks. Slipcase. Blackhole. 2003.
