Product Description
Some people have musical greatness thrust upon them, some are born into it, Otis Jackson Jr. - aka Madlib has hiphop embedded into his DNA. His father was an accomplished R&B session musician who played with the likes of David Axelrod and H.B. Barnum. His uncle is Jon Faddis, legendary trumpeter who played with Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus and Bob James among others. Growing up, Madlib was astutely aware of his family's musical legacy. He was obsessed with Jazz, hip-hop, reggae and collecting records. These obsessions have worked their way into his songs such as Quasimoto's "Jazz Cats Pt1" and "Return of the Loop Digga" a hilariously accurate re-telling of Madlib's run-in with a less-than-knowledgeable record store clerk.

After getting spotted by Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib was signed to Stones Throw Records. No one could have anticipated the quantity or quality of work that would follow. Madlib became the leader of the Lootpack and put out a solo project as his alter ego Quasimoto, a helium-voiced rapper that Jackson created on a whim and later developed into a full-length album. As if that wasn't enough, he is also the sole member of the new jazz experiment, Yesterday New Quintet, which have released a crateload of recordings of late.

Madlib may have been born into musical greatness, but he's also worked his a** off to get where he is. A self admitted workaholic, Madlib has been known to lock himself in his studio for days at a time. During one of his rare breaks, Madlib has taken time out to record and mix this album, much to our pleasure!

5 out of 5 stars SESSION TUNES!!!.......2005-05-26

Hence the title, getting blunted to this cd is truly an experience esp. if you dont have all the dopeass underground reggae/dub that madlib got his hands on..all tracks mix together seemlessly and you never have to skip a track. blaze the trees and bump this cd.

4 out of 5 stars Works as a conceptual piece...Not for everyone.......2003-06-10

This one was highly anticipated. Almost lived up to expectations. Lots of wild sound effects distorts an otherwise amazing collage of singles. Eventually, when you can totally sink into the hodgepodge -- like when you're driving -- the assortment of bells and whistles coheres into something really unique and pretty special. Terrific headphone experience, but not the first choice for social listening.

4 out of 5 stars Rewind selekta !!!.......2003-02-12

5 out of 5 stars Just plain hottt........2006-04-23

This is definitely worth picking up, there are some great reggae and dub classics in here. It also clued me in to some musicians I hadn't heard of, which is one of the main reason's I back Madlib so much. Listening to him makes you wanna dig up old music and expand your own collection, you gotta love that! At any rate, pick up this album, your Madlib collection is hurtin' without it.

Peace,
BK

5 out of 5 stars the best reggae comp since the harder they come!.......2006-03-05

"only rasta knows the voice of jah... only jah-jah children love rasta! i said i worship the father and i worship the son; the one i worship most is the Holy Ghost!"

astounding record.

5 out of 5 stars Madlib mixing reggae? YES, PLEASE........2005-08-10

I love Madlib. I love reggae.

So Madlib mixing 40-some tracks from the Trojan Records catalogue? Yes, I will come back for second and third helpings with that.

Madlib himself contributes some effects and samples here and there, but mostly this is a rock-solid collection of rocksteady and dub tracks that any reggae fan can appreciate.

Well worth the purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Blunted.......2005-06-29

How could you go wrong when prolific producer/mc/dj MADLIB gets his hands on the TROJAN vault? You can't... every cut is dope. ALL 45 songs are mixed well and dosed with a little madlib flavor. I wish it was a boxset..

5 out of 5 stars madlib has good taste........2005-01-15

a very well mixed collection. reggae lovers don't sleep on this one. so many classic cuts... pass me da rizzla.
