Product Description
Atlas has a well-earned reputation for being one of the most original and innovative artists of our time, both in the Middle East and in the West. The exotic Arabic scales, rhythms, and textures open up new horizons for 4/4-entrapped western pop and create possibilities for the enormous and varied Middle Eastern music scene to communicate outside itself. This collection assembles tracks from her solo albums, as well as unreleased and rare remixes, updated edited versions of her most famous songs, and a live track.

Definitly Different........2007-04-12
I LOVE her cover of "You Only Live Twice". Haunting and surreal at the same time. To me, it's the best song on the CD. I'd buy the whole CD for that song.
Very addictive music!.......2006-03-20
I only grew familiar with Miss Atlas through Sarah Brightman's use of her on Harem and WOW! this is one addictive singer/musician. I am enchanted with the fresh (to me) Egyptian music and sound and this woman can sing equisitely! I haven't lost my taste for this CD yet and am playing it quite a bit on rotation. What else has this woman done? I'll buy it!
a musical menage..........2005-09-20
i stumbled upon this cd completely by chance...
(she kinda looks like the woman im in love with/but that's beside the point... but that MAY be what first drew my attention/but i babble...)
umm...
completely fell in love with her 'sound'... she's a human mash-up of the middle east, india, hip hop, reggae and r&b... i dont know whether to belly dance or break dance!
(well... breakdancing might be a lil bit over the top... the 'hip hop' influence is very subtle... mostly some well placed, smoothed out 'scratching' sounds)
but i'll buy omost ANY album that covers 'i put a spell on you' and as an added extra bonus, you get her rendition of 'a man's world'... fyi - only 3 or 4 of these songs are in english... the rest is either arabic or hindi or some transmogrified verbal concoction of other-worldly conversations or sumphn...
im not bi-lingual... i can barely master this american dialect... ebonics be my mangled amalgamation for assonic communication of choice, butchall already know that right?
umm,
NATACHA...
yeah...
the sista sounds good... enjoyin this a whole lot better than M.I.A.'s album... this is just a good ol' fashion cd to me...
beautiful.
Pure entertainment for the passionate!.......2005-09-16
Hmm...quite funny to read that some guys here think they know Natacha better than she knows herself. Poor guys... just listen to the ladies and you'll learn someday. This album is the Best of what Natacha feels she has at the moment and I celebrate her choices (even if made with the production team). The new mixes by Transglobal Underground really rock! Just feel the modern basslines vibrating... would you rather be without them? And absolutely wonderful TJ Rehmi provides a great groovy dance mix of Leysh Nat'Arak. And a great dub version of the same song in the end taking us back to the feelings of the beginning. But some of you think it's a waste of space? Haven't you guys ever been to parties? Repetition of the hit elements works wonders and enhances the mood of the listeners when it's used in an intelligent way, like the people behind this album. The selection and sequencing of the songs shows their highly developed sense of aesthetics and a good sense of humour too! This groundbreaking Best of compilation is a story or a soundtrack of it's own right. Hey diss-a man, don't think-a so much... just feel-a! Natacha, you send shivers down to every sane man's spine, and that's the way I like it!
An Introduction to Natacha Atlas.......2005-08-04
I treasure this album. While some people may be bothered by the remixes I think they freshen up things a little. Granted that the originals are gold as always from her, I never get tired of listening to her voice. The special treat on this album is Leysh Nat'arak. It is my favorite of all her songs. While none of the three versions here are the original (which is sadly out of print on Dispora), I'm so glad it is well represented. I feel it was a good choice to include each version, even if other songs I would mark as worthy didn't make the cut. I suppose this album would serve more purpose as an introductory CD. It covers roughly ten years of her career and gives a taste of her many vocal styles ranging from traditional to club dance. It also contains songs in three of the four languages she sings in proving how versatile of an artist she is.
