Few electronic compilations are as dependably great as the Ultra series, which has turned out top-shelf classics like Ultra Chilled 01 and Ultra Trance 03. As advertised, Ultra Weekend offers up two discs worth of bleeping party anthems without leaning on obvious candidates like Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. Instead we get a precisely executed mix of the known (New Order), notable (Mylo) and blissfully obscure (Roman Flügel), each offering a steady rhythm and pulse-quickening melody. There are several high-points along the way, including Scissor Sisters' "Filthy/Gorgeous [Paper Faces Vocal Mix Edit]" and Armand Van Helden's "Into Your Eyes [Club Mix]," but it's best taken as a whole. Preferably with a lampshade over your head. --Aidin Vaziri

I like this... there is a compilation I found on itunes called "EURO CLUB HITS VOL. 1" that has more stuff like this, even better some of it
A GR8 SELECTION FROM ULTRA.......2007-05-29
Just to say I heard all the samples on another website, very nicely done. Ultra records did it again!

CD1
While Ultra Weekend isn't quite distinguishable from the Ultra Dance volumes, it does deliver some of the biggest remixers and artists. The real issue with this volume is that many of the biggest, hardest tracks to get on CD don't have very long durations on the commercial disc:
1. hurt...christina Aguilera (5:45) (this is the club mix heard most of all the mixes out there. Great mix--wish it had been longer than 5:45)
2. Promiscuous...Nelly Furtado (3:47) (more of a funky/disco groove than the Ralphi Rosario mix. Again--not long enough!)
3. With Love...hilary Duff (4:35) The thumping electro house mix. Not even 5 minutes!)
4. Unfaithful...Rihanna (7:34) (the brilliant Tony Moran mix, and closing in on 8 minutes long, it is one of the few high points for collectors)
5. U & Ur Hand...Pink (5:40) (nice length run of the slammin' bimbo jones mix of this hot Pink track)
6. Here in your Arms...Hellogoodbye (2:49) (WHY bother putting it on here for less than 3 minutes? And as always, none of the remixes can live up to the synthpop perfection of the original mix)
7. sumthin serious...audio club (5:14) (awesome electro house mix of this ridiculously catchy track)
8. Ride a white horse...goldfrapp (5:24) (a bit more progressive electro we expect from goldfrapp. This one's a great trip)
9. Cry for you...September (4:39) (follow-up to "satellites" is another commercial dance winner with an electro house edge)
10. Showstopper...Danity Kane (6:48) (if for nothing else, THIS is the reason to buy this CD--nearly 7 minutes of the commercially unreleased Dave Aude electro mix of P. Diddy's latest ensemble)
11. in the dark...tiesto (4:44) (nice, atmospheric male vocal track by tiesto. Love this track--reminds me of The Killers)
12. truly madly deeply (4:06) (just what it sounds like. Cascada covering Savage Garden)
CD2
Disc 2 begins with the `groovy' house track by Bob Sinclar, which is not my thing, but it then progresses into a predominantly darker, deeper, harder mix of electro house that keeps you pumped throughout, with a few big tracks like "proper education", "sex n money", and "feel alive." The tracks are predominantly longer on this disc:
1. world hold on...bob sinclar (7:23)
2. SOS...Stonebridge (7:00)
3. Destination calabria...alex gaudino (5:10)
4. Perfect...mason vs. princess superstar (5:37)

9. Sex n Money...oakenfold (5:46)
10. World is mine...david guetta (6:06)
11. Feel alive...benassi (4:38)

Great Music.......2007-04-04
I really like this CD as well as most of the Ultra Records CD's I especially like heady female vocal trance and dance music with lots of drive. However I have exausted the Ultra Records CD series. If there are any CD's that highlight (heady hard driving) trance and or dance music with beautiful female vocals email me with any suggestions at: Carol-Ann26@webtv.net
Pop/House Mix.......2006-10-01
Well...CD1 starts of with 6 Pop/Rock songs remixed into dance songs...they're ok...then the tempo rises with Stunt...and same old same old Cascada's "Everytime We Touch"...CD1 is ok..pretty mainstream i would say...
CD2 is better...with hot House/Disco anthems...highlights would be Olav Basoski's "Waterman"...Morrison "Love of My Life"...my favorite S.O.S. by Filterfunk (what a great song!) ooohh Chanel's "My Life" that is verly growing in me...it's a good song...Editors "Munich" is smooth...with a nice bouncy rythm...the CD ends in Electro style with Ferry Corsten's criticized "Fire" which doesn't bother me at all...and Goldfrapps top hit Ooh La la...but Benassi's mix of it is kinda annyonig...
overall pretty good Compilation!
ultra weekend.......2006-08-04
this is a 2 disk cd. the first cd, if full of songs that you may have heard on the radio. kelly clarkson, is one of the singers on the cd. that is the main reason why i purchased the cd. love that remix. the other songs are ok, but the 1 cd is the best of the 2.
Mainstream Remixes.......2006-08-04
CD-1, I could barely tolerate. I personnally haven't heard too many Top 40 Pop songs remixed as trance versions that I have actually liked, anywhere.
CD-2 Much improved. Pretty good track selection if you are into house. I'm more of a trance fan.
Overall, disappointed.
Cotton Candy Weekend.......2006-06-28
After buying and enjoying most of Ultra Weekend I, I had high hopes that Ultra II would follow along in the same style. At first glance the artists looked promising, but after listening I was rather disappointed.
Although there are a couple of tracks on Disc 1 that are good, for the most part it reminds me of cotton candy - too pop-sweet for me to enjoy for very long. And the beats are hardly original.
Disc 2 is the better of the two because the mixes are more original, the tracks flow better, and the beats are more varied.

Not Like the others.......2007-07-03
The other sets 2, 3, and 4 are pretty good, they have nice tunes mixed with a bunch of mediocre ones, par. But this one really has nothing.
Pretty Drab.......2007-06-12
This set has a couple of good tracks. 'Here I am' and 'One eye shut' are really the only good ones. Oveall, this is not a get up and dance type of collection. It's good to play in the background at subdued house parties and that sort of setting. This is definitely not a high energy compilation, but if you like your mixes on the mellow side, pick this one up. Just don't expect any stand out tracks, because there aren't any. Overall, a very forgetable set.
Great Driving Music.......2006-10-11
Amazon recommended this album today and I've had it for over a year and still cue it up on my iPod when I'm in the car. It's perfect for a pool or beach day. I can understand why another reviewer thought the album was bland although bland is somewhat of a harsh way to describe it. If you're looking for intense, get on your feet, 3 AM after hours music this is not the album you want. Granted, you would probably not be interested in this compilation based on the release date if you're looking for cutting edge dance.
A great addition to Ultra Records.......2006-03-12
I'm pretty happy that Ultra came out with a new collection entitled Ultra Weekend, featuring vocal house and happy dance songs. My favorite songs being Filthy/Gorgeous, Back to Basics, Love On My Mind, Take Me Away, Star to Fall, Freek You, Come Rain Come Shine, Destroy Rock & Roll, B*tch, and Avalon. This is definitely a great soundtrack for your weekend, as stated on the cover!!
Kristin Davis, get your groove on!.......2005-11-11
The Ultra series tries to have it both ways with a high-concept split between "Friday" and "Saturday" discs, which is not at all a bad idea. Trouble is, instead of two discs worth of "sexy house" you get, to put it complimentarily, two discs worth of classy house, perhaps aimed at the "thirty-is-the-new-twenty" crowd, though I think they'll demand something a little more exciting! These are glossy, grown-up dance tracks with little to complain about by way of the cheese factor: this is mostly fine sunny Sunday afternoon at the beach house, hang-the-mistletoe Christmas Eve houseparty house, dotcom office-party house. It's all well and good as dance music to kiss under the stairwell to, or to dance to while sober and without feeling too embarassed, but it just doesn't have much damn oomph!
Of course, this depends upon your mood and taste, and I did find myself enjoying it. The "Friday" disc is, as noted, pretty homogenous neo-disco type cuts, and around the time "Back to Basics" shows up, it's working a pretty dependable groove, though only "Freek U" really stands out. The "Saturday" disc is a bit more varied, often tilting towards an electro/French house vibe (by way of that dependable Englishman Jacques LeCont with Juliet's "Avalon" for the closer) and including a nice section of progressive house that includes the terrific "Sound of the Drum" and the amusing White Girl Robot vocals on "Till There Was You". This adds up to a bit more excitement overall, but it hardly adds up to a must-have set. That beach photography is no musical accident either: this is the kind of house that sounds like the DJ was spinning with seashells over his ears. Overall, it's not a total loss as a Weekend, but it doesn't deliver anything Ultra.
