One of the most successful freestyle groups, TKA brings to the music confident beats crossbred with heart-on-sleeve, bleeding male egos. Discovered while the three youths entertained at a Sweet 16 party by singing over hip-hop instrumentals, TKA were an early inspiration for the sped up, Latinized hip-hop that birthed the freestyle phenomenon. All the hits here pit lush, romantic vocals against immaculately polished beats and synths. Like all the best freestyle, TKA's hits get inside the teenage mind through the lyrics and the teenage body through irresistible dance grooves. --John Sanchez

5 out of 5 stars great music in a great time .......2007-05-17

Whatever happened to this kind of music? Fast paced, danceable, profanity free, performers who weren't getting locked up for drug-related offenses or drive-by shootings. This kind of music was fun and carefree. Every song on here is about love and angst. I saw these guys perform back in Florida when I lived there and was impressed especially with the songs. As explained by another reviewer, these songs are all great and each one is different from the other. If you love Freestyle, this is a must have for your collection. I really wish there was a revival of this kind of music.

5 out of 5 stars husband loves it.......2007-05-13

i don't like the band but my husband is very happy with this purchase

5 out of 5 stars Oh - how I loved TKA back in the day!.......2007-01-14

Now being 33yrs old, this CD brings back some serious memories. This is when dance music was at its best - freestyle. TKA was one of the best groups around back then. Most others were one or two hit wonders but this group just kept bring out more and more hits. If you like this, try K7 too - K (from TKA) left and made that CD in 1993. There are some really good hits on there too. This is a GREAT CD to work out with now too. Highly recommend to anyone, even the younger generations. My favs were some of the less popular: Don't Be Afraid and You are the One although the more popular hits: Maria, Louder then Love, Scars of Love and Tears May Fall are all excellent too.

5 out of 5 stars classic NY freestyle.......2006-04-30

TKA goes back way in the day when Freestyle was called Latin Hip Hop and this compilation shows what amazing high-quality productions they, with their label Tommy Boy, put out.

The first 6 of the 14 tracks on this best of all come from their debut album - amazing that their first album resulted in 6 12" singles and excellent releases with killer beats and innovative production. Their subsequent releases also include some top freestyle material (You are the one, Give your love to me, & the melancholy touching Louder than love). Please note the version of Tears may fall is not the original mix but a remix (which I find less powerful than the original). I'd recommend a release of TKA's 12" freestyle mixes of all their freestyle hits on CD - their extended mixes include some pumping hard beats and great edits

5 out of 5 stars a classic album.......2006-03-22

now, this is what a greatest hits should be like. every single song was a hit in one way or another. i love freestyle. i grew up listening to it and it brings back a lot of priceless memories. these guys were one of a kind. i listen to many different ti=ypes of music but when im feeling meloncholy, sad or going throu a breakup i listen to freestyle. especially this cd. included here is the best break up song ballad, ever recorded, "louder than love". and their swan song, "maria"- which i beleive was their biggest crossover hit. another great tune is their duet with tony moran, " is it love?". that song was intended for tony moran's solo album. which was recorded and released but immediatly discontinued. anyway, this is a great collection of songs to have on one cd. we all have the vynil from back in the day, but they'res nothing like hearing "scars of love on quality cd. long live freestyle and tka!!!
