4 out of 5 stars Too droll, but still delightful.......2006-02-07

A fun listen for anyone interested in unconventional sampling. The album is a cornucopia of acoustic-derived samples and cascading textures, marred (but only slightly) by an overabundance of tongue-in-cheek spoken snippets. A less self-conscious approach might not have resulted in such a joyous, surreal romp through popular culture and quasi-mysticism, though.

Any neo-folk revivalist type should own this -- as a reference, at least -- of what else they can play when they burn out on covering "Uncle Penn."

4 out of 5 stars yeeesss.......2005-05-12

If you can get through the first two lame songs you will be very thankful becuase once "Tokyo" kicks it into high gear its pretty amazing after that.

5 out of 5 stars My Friend Dan.......2005-04-16

This is a story about me and my friend Dan. Dan is kind of a punk anarchist kid - very sweet, very political, very concerned about his effect on the world -- who usually listens to loud metallic punk music. It's hard to classify oneself, but suffice it to say that i am not a punk anarchist kid, at least not right now, as far as i can tell, and i don't listen to loud punk music very often of my own accord.
Dan told me that he had some music that i would really like, and i sort of doubted it, because he's always listening to music that is too loud --admittedly good, like lightning bolt and stuff, but not really my style.
BUT THEN HE PLAYED THIS ALBUM.
The Lemon of Pink transcends all of the genres that i would like to box it into. it is a beautiful, meaningful, orginal amalgamation of sound, and it is worth your time and energy.

5 out of 5 stars Wow........2005-04-08

This band blew my mind when I first listened to them. If you are looking for something new and exciting, and are kind of bored of whatever's coming out these days, give it a try. If you aren't into Avant-garde music, you might have to give it a few listens, but even then you will like it.

5 out of 5 stars give it a few listens.......2005-01-08

At first, when I listened to this album, I was completely turned off. It sounded like a complete, random mess. But the more I listened to it, the more I understood the beauty in the music. The story the sound tells, even without hardly any lyrics at all. Brilliant album!

5 out of 5 stars SUPERB PRE-1940S COMPILATION OF COUNTRY BLUES.......2005-03-31

The 2 separate cds of "Southern Blues," Vols. 1 and 2 are very well made, well executed compilations. both have excellent liner notes. both are very good to excellent transfer to cd format, with little or no surface noise on either cd. and best of all, a very good bargain price from this UK distributor, which also puts out a large number of bargain compilations of US blues and jazz from before WW2. all in all, if you manage to find this cd, you will not be disappointed, which includes some hard to find songs as well. dave.
