Even as dancehall further installs itself as a sellable pop/R&B sound in the U.S., St. Vincent native Kevin Lyttle arrives with a sexy, party-ready variant on soca (soul-calypso). "Turn Me On," the single that ensured this album's release in the States, is a three-years-in-the-making hit that pushes the singer's lithesome voice into an irresistible organic-electronic track (the CD also offers a remix with reggae hard man Spragga Benz and a video for the song). The rest of the album keeps the groove up, making for one of the most likeable, boundary-breaking successes in recent memory; a cover of Terence Trent D'Arby's "Sign Your Name" is a timely reminder of that singer's late-'80s heyday. An even more likely follow-up smash, though, is the bumping "My Lady." Don't be surprised if Lyttle has kicked off a welcome new sound-fad in America, with more soca stars arriving quickly. --Rickey Wright

Product Description
The summer's hottest hit is already here - Kevin Lyttle's sexy, Caribbean sunshine-soaked smash "Turn Me On." The track is already a global phenomenon, Top 5 on virtually every international chart, and now it's exploding at Top 40 radio and MTV in the US. With that success, Kevin has not only established himself as a dynamic new global star, he also is in the vanguard of artists who are emerging from the Caribbean with a range of exciting new musical hybrids poised to follow the surge of dancehall reggae into worldwide prominence. Kevin's fresh and innovative fusion of Caribbean soca music, American hip hop/R&B and Jamaican dancehall was the smash of St. Vincent's yearly Carnival in 2002. Through Kevin's live performances, the song saturated the entire Caribbean, spread to Caribbean communities in North America and the U.K, and eventually reached mainstream clubs and radio across several European countries and Japan. Over a two-year period of mounting popularity, and without any official international release until now, "Turn Me On" has emerged as soca's biggest international crossover hit in 20 years. His self-titled debut album promises to be as groundbreaking and eclectic as his single, teaming Kevin with a slate of top names from the fields of dancehall, hip hop and soca, including Jeremy Harding (Sean Paul, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Beenie Man); Tony Kelly (T.O.K., Sean Paul, Sasha) and Salaam Remi (Nas, Ini Kamoze, Fugees), as well as "Turn Me On" hit collaborator Adrian Bailey.

Will Smith makes a welcome left turn from his recent Hollywood McAction Film past in director Andy Tennant's romantic comedy. He is also the film's executive soundtrack producer, taking the opportunity to pay tribute to the R&B and soul that initially influenced his own musical career, as well as showcase its contemporary echoes. Vintage tracks represent Motown (the Temptations' classic "I Can't Get Next to You") and Philly (The O'Jays "Love Train") soul well, while the Caribbean rhythms of Jimmy Cliff's "You Can Get It," Martha Reeves' "It's Easy to Fall in Love" and Earth, Wind & Fire's pop-inflected "Reasons" testify to the old school's rich diversity. John Legend's new cover of Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" doesn't add much to the original, but other new cuts like the hip-hop/soul fusion of Heavy D and the Boyz' "Now That We Found Love," EW&F's collaboration with Kelly Rowland and Sleepy Brown ("This Is How I Feel") and Amerie's funk-charged "I Thing" offer up a tasty modern R&B groove. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Hitch..........2007-02-15

I'll be honest, I bought this disc for Amerie's "1 thing." I don't know why, but at the time, I had to have it (and even bidded on ebay for a British CD-Single! Thankfully, I lost, as it went for $26US!!) The rest of the disc is "okay." Three stars for the disc. Five stars for Amerie's "1 Thing."

5 out of 5 stars Found the club song.......2006-09-29

Like others, I went looking for the song from the club...I think this is it: Everthing but the girl: Five Fathoms, from the cd Temperamental. This song, gets the 5 stars. Good stuff.

2 out of 5 stars Club Song.......2006-08-30

I am also trying to figure out what song was playing in the club... I thought it was "Everything but the Girl" also or "Sade"... I have had no luck...

1 out of 5 stars need title of song.......2006-08-09

does anyone know the title or artist or both of the song that was playing in the background when wil approached eva in the club? sounds like "everything but the girl" but i'm not sure. the soundtrack doesn't have it...help! thanks

2 out of 5 stars Not the movie.......2006-03-22

I was very disappointed that the songs on this album were not a comprehensive list of the songs that I saw in the movie. It's a compilation of mediocre songs. Big disappointment.

Good SOCA music from the Caribbean! My favorite: "Turn Me On"

3 out of 5 stars Good Try..........2006-07-02

3.5 stars actually...Kevin showed us a mixture of Soca and R&B,it's cool! I love the hot single "Turn Me On",and the whole album is suitable to listen in summer dayz...

But obviously, Kevin's work is lack of changes, all songs seem too same...

Whatever,it's a good try...

5 out of 5 stars Get it Kevin.......2006-05-06

I haven't pulled this cd out for awhile. The song I bought it for is one of m' favourite all time dance songs. You can never get tired of hearing "Turn Me On". There were a couple of songs I was on the fence about, but like alot of albums the songs change their definition of sound. If you give songs on a cd that went under the rader for years they take on a new life of their own. When I first bought the album I was so caught up with the one hit "Turn Me on", I didn't have the time of day to really open myself up to hear the other songs. Now I like the songs "Call Me", I love the early eighties vibe and Kevin's vocals are right on time on this track (sounds like early Michael Jackson vibes) and "Screaming out m' name", "Ya Kiss" and "Dance With Me". There are a couple of songs I skip over but I am glad to know there some other songs on this cd that hooked me. It frustrates me that singers like Ashlee Simpson can put out 2 records and real vocalists are not supported to release more material. I hope Kevin will put out another cd. He has the kind of thing that makes you feel good. You can hear his music playing on cruise ships or clubs by the beach. Go 'head Kevin.

4 out of 5 stars Very good for crossover soca.......2005-05-09

I understand that a few people thought the lyrics of this album needed some work. They must not be very familiar with contemporay soca music. This is Party music. Not music for soul searching. In general party music tends to be focused on 3 things: wine(figuratively and literally),women and song.

Having said this, this album is an excellent example of caribbean party music. The melodies are catchy. The beat is infectious and makes you want to dance, groove , jam and wine. The songs flow well into each other and you can just play the cd for a good party without having to play dj.
This is SOCA FETE music. Play this when you just want to sweat and have a ball.
If you want lyrics or social commentary try CALYPSO, the more serious sister of soca.

4 out of 5 stars Good try for a first album.......2005-04-27

Great to see a son from he Caribbean doing so well - the islands have a wealth of talent just waiting to be unleashed.
In response to Tristan "meccax5" from Baldwin New York - Adrian Bailey the original producer of Turn Me On - Dance With Me and Call Me on Kevin's album will be launching an album early next month with a lot of artistes including Troots and Ice the album is called STING - we in the region are anxiously awaiting this album. It should be on sale right here on Amazon or on the studios website www.skystudios.net. Look out for it.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection of remixes for the reggae/dance track........2004-10-11

Finally Atlantic got off of their behinds and put this major pop record out on a cd single with the remixes that were dance floor favorites. This song went to the Top 20 on the club Play chart but was a number one Dance Airplay track for over 6 weeks on that chart. So when this cd single was released it went in at number one Dance Sales knocking George Michael's "Flawless" out. The cd single comes with 5 full dance mixes and 2 radio versions of 2 of the full mixes, They range from flat out house to a reggae inspired house mix. My favorite mix is the Low Tide mix which is most like the original in sound and vibe and is the reason for the 5 stars alone. Excellent mix.
1- E-Smoove Mix (7:17)
2- Lenny B. Mix (5:40)
3- Low Tide Mix (5:09)
4- Bastone & Burnz Mix (6:20)
5- Dj Volume 's North Bank Mix (6:03)--this mix along with the Low Tide Mix features the vocals of Spragga Benz which are not on the other mixes.
6- Lenny B Radio Edit (3:13)
7- Low Tide Radio Edit (3:14)
A fun cd of remixes. The Low Tide Mix being the best.

I first heard this song back in September 2001 on 1190 WLIB in New York, and have been in love with it ever since! The mellowness of Kevin's voice really grabbed me. Since this song came out, Kevin had another hit with the caribbean community called "Call me" which was also super-sensational. Thanks Kevin for paving the way for other Soca artists like Rupee, Krosfyah, Iwer George etc. Let's hope that Soca will become just as big as Reggae Dancehall in the U.S. and other countries.

This song has truly been around the caribbean scene for a few years. Today America seeks new flava in the ear...So, it seems soca is now headed in the same direction as Reggae. WOOOOOAH!!!!! If you like this tune then you must check out thisisrupee.com, another soca artist recently signed to Atlantic records....with a hit song "TEMPTED TO TOUCH"...congrats fellas for making the Caribbean proud.

This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Vic Latino and The Riddler. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. DJs: Vic Latino; The Riddler. Ultra Records has released several series of club-oriented compilations, but its periodic DANCE offerings have been the most accessible and popular. ULTRA DANCE 06 continues the trend with a double-disc set mixed by DJs Vic Latino and the Riddler, both of whom are veterans of top-rated New York City radio station WKTU. Vic Latino returns from ULTRA DANCE 05, on which he reached particularly far afield for material by mining pop hits from Sarah McLachlan and the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde. Here, however he stays closer to home, featuring primarily dance/R&B-oriented tracks, with the notable exception of a remix of country superstar Wynonna's singing the classic Foreigner power-ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is." The Riddler collects tracks by superstar DJs (Tiesto, David Morales), ubiquitous dance-floor classics familiar to even novice clubgoers ("Born to Be Alive" by the Disco Kings), and exclusive remixes. As a bonus, ULTRA DANCE 06 is enhanced with a sexy music video for Eric Prydz's smash hit, "Call on Me.
