For many bedroom producers, Daniel Bedingfield's debut must seem like a dream come true. A songwriter, home producer, and vocalist whose laptop recording of the title track was one of the biggest hits of 2001 in the UK, Bedingfield makes music that's one part Prince, one part Michael Jackson, and one part UK Garage. Poppy soul-funk in the vein of Cameo, he possesses a distinctive edge that sets him apart from countless other '80s revivalists. A softer side of Bedingfield emerges on "If You're Not the One," a ballad that could easily be dismissed as generic album-filling slush but, with a few listens, proves to be the kind of well-crafted song Jackson's Invincible lacked. One gripe: the re-recorded version of "Gotta Get Thru This," while far more polished and professional than its predecessor, lacks the infectious, raw groove of the original. Still, this album demonstrates how pop music should be made--with a strong emphasis on skill rather than image. --David Trueman

You will have no problem getting thru this album..........2007-03-01
I know I'm a little late on reviewing this album, but it could quite possibly one of the best, ever! I was introduced to it by my friend in college four years ago and since then it has gotten a lot of play out of me. Unfortunately, Daniel has fallen off the US charts due to poor sales of his second album which wasn't nearly as great as this release.
I can't begin to tell you which track stands out more then another. Every single song has it's own unique flavor and has won me over. And trust me when I tell you that I do not say that about many artists, especially in this type of music. Most pop these day is terribly written or over produced, but not Daniel. His lyrics are all his own and the passion in his voice is very evident on each track. I only wish that he would come back to us with another release such as this one. Until then I will be patiently waiting and listening to this album!
A great CD from Daniel Bedingfield.......2007-02-25
This is the first of Daniels cds I have bought. I really like it. The songs are all great. I will definately get more.
dance, cry, & sing along.......2006-07-17
the songs on this CD are either a) 2dance4 or b) sweet, sappy, and beautiful.
very catchy, easy to love tunes. my personal favorites were
"Inflate my Ego" ('cuz it's so crazzzzy & u just want to sing along) and
"If you're not the one" (so simple for all of us who've been through heartbreak--&Iquot-"is there any way that i can stay in your aaaaaarrrms. 'cuz i need your body & soul so bad that it takes my breath away"--just gorgeous. made me want to cry...that's another story, though. if you listen to that song on headphones it sounds as if he's whispering in your ear.)
his voice is soothing and deep when it needs to be, fast and crazy when it needs to be. "gotta get thru this" is good the first time you hear it, but then you get sick of it (or at least i did). every single song is a gem, i didn't waste my money.
A pleasant surprise.......2005-04-05
Like many people, I was first introduced to Mr. Bedingfield via his first US hit single and title track to this CD, "Gotta Get Through This". That song was OK, but it was not the kind of song that would make me want to run out and buy a CD. Then came "If You're Not the One". I immediately fell in love with that song. After hearing it repeatedly on the radio, I decided to buy the CD. Now, let me tell you, that was a major feat. If I think an artist is only gonna have 1 or 2 good songs on a CD, I download those songs rather than buying an entire CD. So, I only knew 2 songs and decided to buy this CD based on those songs. I was pleasantly surprised.
I am not sure why Daniel has not had other hits here in the States. This CD is equally balanced between high-energy dance tunes and touching ballads. And Daniel's voice can really tear right through you on those ballads. Other songs that I particularly like on this disc include "Blown it Again", "James Dean (I Wanna Know)", "He Don't Love You Like I Love You", "I Can't Read You", "Friday", "Honest Questions", "Girlfriend", and "Without the Girl". In my opinion, anyone of these songs should have been Top 10 hits.
The only song that I am less in love with is "Inflate my Ego", which sounds like a song Robbie Williams refused to do. Late in 2004, Daniel released a 2nd CD in the UK. So far, it has yet to be released stateside. I am anxious for the new CD to be released here in the US. I hope his record company has not abandoned the US market. I know it is available as an import, but I hate to pay import prices. Until it is released, I will just have to enjoy playing this CD.
Piece of art........2005-02-14
First of all, I don't agree with many of the previous reviews. Someone up there made mention to his "alright" range. EXCUSE ME! Have you not listened to "If You're Not The One". Someone has to do some research before making useless comments.
Anyway, I am not a fan of pop music at all. Infact, I usually despise it. However, this CD is in a genre of it's own. Daniel Bedingfield is an amazing artist who writes some amazing tracks, and again, has an amazing voice. My favorite songs on this CD have to be "If You're Not The One", "Inflate My Ego", and "Gotta Get Thru This - Instrumental".
All in all, great CD. Awesome buy.

Brilliant.......2003-08-23
From countless dance numbers (Gotta Get Thru This) to rap-in-context wonders (Blown It Again, Right Girl) and chart hits (If You're Not The One, James Dean I Wanna Know), this album is one to add to your collection. Everyone wants something different for their listening tastes, right. Buy this and it will fulfill all your listening pleasures. This disc has a nice variety from slow and mushy ballads (hence If You're Not The One which is currently climbing and falling on the Billboard Top 50) to dance floor feet-movers (Friday, Girlfriend). This special edition from the UK includes two bonus tracks (Never Gonna Leave Your Side and Right Girl) which are both brilliant, and also three acoustic tracks new to the UK edition (acoustic versions of Gotta Get Thru This, James Dean and If You're Not The One). Another fantastic track in mention is I Can't Read You. Its not getting too much applause, or when it was released (March/April 03) I should say. Well actually it's my favorite track of all. It has a nice acoustic flavor to it, plus a bit of that addictive garage pop. Some fillers include He Don't Love You Like I Love You, Honest Questions and Without The Girl. These can be nice for long road trips when you listen to the whole LP over and over (or is it just me?!), but otherwise skip them. Some people really enjoy them, so it might just be my taste. Another favorite many people have is Inflate My Ego. I really dont care for it, just mainly because it's repetative fast-moving lyrics make it sound almost, in a way, identical to Gotta Get Thru This. Well just because these tracks aren't the best don't make this disc rotten. The other 12 tracks have enough potential to each be singles (which 5 of them are!). I hope you enjoy this disc as much as I did. Skip the US version and get this nice Special Edition import! It really is tons better. Happy listening!

I will say that this cd is Brilliant. I was givin this as a gift in Dec of 2002 while I was living in the UK. It is sad to think that such a great artist with great talent is not played here in the US. Anyone who likes Daniel Bedingfield would defintiley enjoy this cd. It is over priced though, but definitley not a waste of money or time. Daniel is huge in the UK and his single for"your not the one for me" he released as a single in Nov 2002 on a uk show called top of the pops, which thay do play on BBCAmerica time and again but keep in mind everything on BBC is behind. Thay play it a ton in the UK and there is a dance mix to that song as well. I want to tell everyone and anybody PURCHASE this CD, give Daniel the play he deserves here.. Cheers

One of the best new songs.......2003-03-16
I m from Peru and i heard this song while i was at Disney s Pleasure Island in a club. At first it makes me remember "Out of your mind" by Vic Beckham and Danny Bowers due to the rythims and the voice. Is a cool dancing song with good rythms and bytes. I like cause it wasn t released here in Lima and me and all my friends from that tip we r the only ones we know about that cool song. I really recomend it to everyone that like party music
Since there's no US single..........2002-11-09
Great song, and even better remixes. The Stella Browne version slows the vocals down to where it actually sounds like David, and it's slammin'. The other versions are alright, but for this remix alone, it's worth it.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's really a guy!.......2002-08-19
If you're like me, when you first heard this song you probably either thought that this was Justin Timberlake(of N'Sync)or some female pop/dance artist named Danielle Bedingfield. This guy definitely is keepin' people guessing! Anyhow, this song is pretty tight with it's catchy lyrics and breakbeat-esque beats. Ministry of Sound has another winner to add to their impressive list. This single is good but, for the price and lacking remixes, I say wait for the domestic single. 'Cause with the momentum this song has, you know there will be one! Hopefully, they'll throw in a couple extra remixes(better ones) to go with it. I give this song 4 stars, but 3 for this single overall(because of the above stated reasons). Recommended, if you can get a good deal on it. If my review was helpful to you, then don't forget to vote. Thanks!
best new artist.......2002-07-20
i really love him and his song gotta get through this. i recently saw him in concert and i fell in love with him. he made the croud hyped up and energy was the greatest. he jumped out into the stage so he could be up close to all of the fans and he has an excellent voice. i would love to see him again and i cant wait untill his album comes out so i can listen to all of his songs

A simple but catchy song!.......2003-03-11
Having heard this on Radio Disney but never getting to find out who the artist is (go figure), I hunted down the title online before trekking down to Virgin Megastore to check it at the listening station. I figured it was a young kid, so seing Daniel Bedinglfield's picture on the cd cover, I was not sure I had the right title.
Well, I did.
This song is a simple electro-beat synth production number that just gets it's hook into you and keeps you in tow. The really fun part of the song is when it goes into the verses, which sound like bridges as they string together the chorus parts which sound like the main part of the song. You have to listen to it to see what I mean. I really dig how the guy (about 22 thus not a little kid!) really goes up in pitch and his voice cresendos as he proceeds across each verse-bridge.
The music is somewhat reminicent of Robin S's Show Me Love with it's "Boinky" keyboard yet it's beat is like the beat of Planet Soul, that electro type beat.
My favorite version is the DND radio edit(1st track) which Radio Disney plays even though it seems to end to quickly. The DND Full Length version is somewhat weaker in that the heavy drum in which the radio edit uses is not backing the song here. This version seems almost to "float" opposed to have a grounded beat that pushes it. The Stella Vocal, is more on the House feel. Bedingfield's vocal sounds more deep here but unfortunately, there is only the chorus here.
Overall, a great song.
I Love This Song.......2002-08-10
Just like Gigi Di'Augustino's I'll fly with you, Bla Bla remix, I've been told by several DJs that Daniel Bedingfield sang the vocals and just tweaked his voice electronically. This song is fabulous. I hear it and I am singing it for hours. It's a good dance song. Can't wait for it to come out in vinyl so I can hear my favorite DJs spin it.
Trouble
Excellent UK garage anthem........2002-07-17
I actually recieved this song as a gift in January of this year from a friend and was wondering when it would come to America . Well it is July and the US is playing catch up. The song comes in two D'N'D mixes (radio-2:42 and full version -4:44) that are the original garage/two step versions. The vocals sound sped up compared to the house mix and are best for the radio. The songs is very catchy and will be embedded in your brain soon. The Stella Browne vocal mix by mixers Danny Harrison and Julian Jonah is a great house mix. The mix (7:38) is for the house crowd and make his vocals more normal speed for the mix to work and it does. An excellent song that grew on me. I first heard it on the BBC shortwave radio top 20 countdown and on Top Of The Pops where he performed it unplugged in the beginning of 2002.
Excellent Single, Long Live Two Step!.......2002-06-09
We had "Gotta Get Thru This" going to the very top of the UK charts during the last weeks of 2001. It became one of the best selling singles of the year and has continued to do well into 2002 (returning to #1 after the holiday rush). Now it seems like it is America's turn to discover this gem. As noted by the reviews below, Mr. Bedingfiled's single is receiving a great amount of airplay from the top dance radio station, as well as some medium rotation on the part of Power 96 and Y-100 (the main stations in SFl). While "Gotta Get Through This" is not necessarily the type of music that is successful in the US (I cannot think of any Garage act scoring well in the past two years), this might be the song that opens the door to the two-step sound. The lyrics are contagious, the vocal delivery is just outstanding, and that beat has hit written all over it.
This particular version of the single has three remixes that deserved repeated play. While I still prefer the original version, the Dnd Full Version is what will probably get most of the dancefloor attention. If this one doesn't become a hit outside of Miami (and, of course, Europe) I will be quite shocked. This is one track that has pleasure guaranteed imprinted on its package; trust me on that one :)
THIS IS A GREAT SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-03-29
I just returned from Miami Florida for the Winter Music Conference and one of the songs that most of the top DJ's around the world agreed should be played was Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This. I was very nervous that I would return home and not be able to find this song. I was wrong the Internet is a lovely thing. Please make sure you purchase this song.
