About the Artist
Weekend Records was founded by the multi-talented David Ferrero. David is an accomplished DJ and Producer as well as remixer for the likes of Santana, J.Lo and Ricky Martin. For this mix, he takes us through the vast Weekend Records catalog with a selection of tracks that are truly evocative of balmy, Mediterranean nights.
Beatfreak Recordings is one of THE most respected labels in the world. Founded in the 90s by D-Formation (aka Dimas) the label has already released over 75 singles in a very short space of time and has spawned several sub-labels such as Intenso and TUSOM. Customer Reviews:
2 great songs.......2006-06-15
i was in best buy and grabbed a handful of cd's. i am usually picky about wasting money but felt like i wanted some fresh stuff.
ananda and in my dreams are fantastic! as molly shannon from SNL would say, "i love it, i love it, i love it!"
the rest of the tracks are of no interest to me.
Don't be fooled..........2006-05-05
Don't let the 30 second audio samples fool you. They seem to emphasize only the percussion, and completely miss the unique and flavorful jazz/world elements of the Madrid collection.
I was pleasantly surprised with Disc 1. The mix is very eclectic, with a range of influences from chill/lounge to euro-house to tribal/worldbeat. Expect to hear a few accents of flamenco guitar and loud trumpets, as well as upbeat flutes, jazzy piano, and both crooning and hip-hop sounding vocals.
Disc 2, as mentioned by other reviews, was an immense disappointment for me personally. The overall style does not follow Afterdark's successful formula, but enters the realm of pure electronica. (In my own view, it certainly does not seem representative of Madrid. But then again, I've never been there.) If you're a fan of electronic/progessive music, I'd consider it a bonus. But even if you're looking for another taste of Afterdark, Madrid is still worth adding to your collection, if even as a 1-CD set.
Killer compilation!!!.......2006-04-01
I have all of the Afterdark disks and this one rates up there in the top right next to San Francisco and Chicago. Good variety, flow, and tempos. But this one now!
OUTSTANDING PRODUCT!!!.......2006-03-03
If you have ever clubbed in Europe you will know why I rate this so high. Also, contrary to a previous review, Disc Two ROCKS!!!
H'ola!
A progressive outlier in the Kinkysweet portfolio.......2006-02-01
The Kinkysweet offerings (Bargrooves, AfterDark, etc.) are very consistent in their sound -- deep, groovy, sexy, yet upbeat house. Ben Sowton and the label's producers, however, let this offering slip past their usually tight quality control review. While CD 1 is relatively typical with some excellent deep house / tribal beat, CD 2 is pure progressive. This is not to say that the tracks are bad, in fact, many are stellar (Track 8 in particular). Nevertheless, if you expect this offering to follow the others, you will be surprised. Check out AfterDark Chicago for the best of series to date.
