Album Description
The Unicorns' first release on Alien8 features thirteen tracks deeply rooted in careful songwriting and lo-fi pop experimentalism, backing up their reputation as Canada's most promising new band and Planet Earth's next big thing.
Customer Reviews:
Great group.......2007-04-29
LOVE this band. Too bad they broke up. Their sound is sort of like the Brant Anderson Group but different. If you like BAG you will love the unicorns.
SWEET NOTHING!.......2007-04-22
They know the scope of their work...........silly but sophisticated and RIDICULOUSLY catchy songs....ALL OF THEM.
You need this. If you have ever been the caretaker for a hamster or cheap petshop lizard, this is your album. This is the childhood tribute to childhood "love"....musically.
Imagine the band as BORED EAGLE SCOUTS...15-year-old, rich, apathetic, unsatisfied-with-adolescence-yet-jovial eagle scouts.
What the F***?.......2007-02-04
I never write reviews, but just had to this time. I have to tell Ira Moon(in response to her review) to shut the hell up!!! Nobody wants to read your rant about the bible; these reviews are for the music and the artists, not your biblical babble. I love The Unicorns, you might too.
Undercooked Indie Pop.......2006-06-03
2 1/2 stars
An album that basically states "we're here, we're unique, we have some talent", rather then accomplish anything on it's own musically-sadly this indulgent but perceptive band left this as little proof of even existing and hopefully are articulating some of this unfocused talent into more memorable projects. The over indulgences with 4/4 sound manipulation, casio beats, overtly quirky vocals distract from their talent at deconstructing and undermining a catchy pop song with respectable guitarkid-chops to boot. This is an interesting footnote if you have time and energy invested in the independent scene, or if you just really loved warped, but playful lo-fi druggery.
gone but not forgotten.......2006-04-05
If you loved the works of Nick and J'aime as much as I did, then you'll love their new project called, 'Islands' - "Return To The Sea".
