Eclectic, emotionally smart, and always engaging to the ear, Volume Six won't disappoint followers of the Del Mar series. After a curious slice of Talvin Singh's "Traveller" (Kid Loco's Once upon a Time in the East mix), Afterlife get the slow dusk grooves moving with the seductively vocalized "Dub In Ya Mind (Beach Club Mix)" before A New Funky Generation slip in some grooves as smooth and of-the-'70s as their name suggests with "The Messenger."
However, Volume Six is often more poignant and melancholy than the usual Del mar compilation. dZihan & Kamien's "Homebase," while sporting an uptempo ambience, is spiritually destined for the subsonic bass groove of Deep Dish someday, and Humate's "3.2 Bedrock (Ambient Mix)" is the sort of ennui-filled dance music Madonna would be proud of. The hidden treasure on this volume is Moonrock's "111 Street Blues," a sumptuous downtempo stew of ambience, hip-hop, and ambient dub sensibilities. It helps make Volume Six the perfect destination for those seeking a spirited romantic beach vacation with their significant other in the living room. --Steffan Chirazi

Schmaltz - German for Bad.......2006-01-30
Hard to believe that Cafe Del Mar has sunk to this level.
This is NOT "chill," meditative, relaxing or even New Age music.
This is a round-up of the best "relaxing" classical music as performed ineptly and cheaply by nobody in particular.
(...). It's heartless and dull. It's also pointless and sad that Cafe Del Mar would stamp their name on anything.
If you want "relaxing" classical music and you're just starting out in collecting classical or you're not a purist and want music for dinner or a relaxing evening, you would be better off listening to any of these from Amazon (see link below) locked in a wooden box and cotton stuffed in your ears than the tripe of the absolutely horrible, horrible Café del Mar: Classics, Vol. 2.

Customer Reviews:
In the best traditions of the Cafe Del Mar and Jose Padilla!.......2001-09-13
Each compilation from Café Del Mar series is famous for its easy-listening & easy flowing style. One can't disagree that this music is compiled in such a way, that you don't actually notice how and where the music fastens or becomes slower, changes its general mood. At the same time, in each album you encounter dozens of musical styles, from classics, flamenco to electronic trip-hop and acid jazz. The 6th edition of Café Del Mar isn't an exception to the rule.
The record starts with amazing moving track, Talvin Singh's =Traveller=; great beats and interestingly inserted orchestral scores. Afterlife comes with their aerial, pleasing vocals and music in =Dub in Ya Mind=. A New Funky Generation surprises with a completely inflammatory track! - =The Messenger=; cool singing also here. dZihan & Kamien gives us very smooth song, =Homebase=; it sounds very relaxing and easy after energetic The Messenger. Mandalay's =Beautiful= is one of my favourites. It's so passionate, tender. Turn your bass to the fullest since this track has one of the strongest beats on the CD. Humate invites us to the world of electronic waves, winds and trans-mood in =3.2 Bedrock=. Endorphin comes with =Satie 1= which reminds me ANFG's The Messenger - the same fast and energetic. As for Nitin Sawhney's =Homelands=, it's one more surprise on the CD and the second track from my favs. While starting as flamenco, it continues with beautiful woman's vocals of more romantic wave, combining with again, orchestral scores; ac. guitar is in its best sound and the closing vocals are pure miracle! Rae & Christian are with their =A Distant Invitation= - don't know why but for me it's very the same as Satie 1 and The Messenger; in any case they are quite similar in its music structure and feeling. Bugge Wesseltoft's =Existence= is the most complicated and mystic song on the album - smth from jazz, smth from trip-hop, smth from classics! Paco Fernandez with Levitation feat. Cathy Battistessa is really great for the vocals; a very sentimental song! Marc Collin's =Les Kid Nappeurs Main Theme= is like a storm before the peace and quiet Jose Padilla's Adios Ayer which is very measured and light - my third fav, cause it really strengthens your desire for living! :) Moonrock with =I'll Street Blues= gives street-singing with unearthly electronic sounds. And Dusty Springfield is incredible with her aerial, soothing and warm =The Look of Love=! A great finishing piece - it seems that nothing could be better than it.
Well, this album is made in the best traditions of easy-listening compiling. Jose Padilla has proved once again that he's one of the best DJ of chill-out music! Of course, if you ever listened to any albums from Café Del Mar's series, you should take this one, too!
