Putting aside the Girl Power phenomenon--really, what were the chances five scantily-clad birds flashing their knickers with kung-fu kicks wouldn't make it in the music industry?--the Spice Girls really do mean something: great singles. There's not a dog in their whole back-catalogue. They kicked off their career with "Wannabe", "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1"--that's the pop equivalent of an Olympic gold in the triathlon. They're all here on Spice, along with the live favourite "If You Can't Dance"--one that Geri always looked particularly picked-upon whilst singing--and that irresistible champagne effervescence of pop history in the making. The only mistake they made at this point in their career was not releasing the slinky R&B track "Naked" as a single; and if that's because the video plot automatically suggests itself as too obvious, it's not as if that curtailed any other facet of their career. --Caitlin Moran

Still searching for the clues and secrets.......2007-05-11
My life was meaningless. I had no friends. My D&D character died after a seven year run, and I still lived in the basement of my stepmoms house. All that changed with the release of SPICE. My quest for the answer has kept me busy now for over 10 years. The secret is in the album, and my Holy Grail is Baby Spice.
Never have I seen such a beautiful woman. She is the object of all my desires. The perfect female specimen can be wrapped up in just two words 'Baby Spice'. When I first heard the song 'Naked' I was taken to a dream world. I listen to this album 14 times a day, everyday. And when I hear the song 'Naked', I become naked and always have the same vision, kneeling behind Baby Spice and using her pig-tails like the handlebars of a motorcycyle.
Now for the album. I only share this with you because I have come to a point in my research where a partner is mandatory. I did not want to bring an outsider in, but for the love of Baby, I must. I must have Baby Spice all to myself, and I promise a great reward for anyone that can help me. If you can assist me in my quest, I promise you fame, power, and glory. All I seek is Baby Spice, the rest of the world is yours.
SPICE is an acrynom, it stands for "Supernatural Place In Central Europe". I first discovered this after listening to 'If you can't dance' backwards. After more listens, I realized that SPice World is a real place and the peretual Baby Spice needs to be rescued. After wrapping my face in tin foil, sitting on a carrot, and listening to 'Love Thing', the vision was revealed to me as seen through a pink cloud. Baby is trapped in a tower in Prussia, as if that was not bad enough, a three headed dragon guards her.
I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a plastic sword that glows in the dark. The voices told me I would need it. 'Who do you think you are' confirmed my belief that I was the knight to rescue Baby. Only the man that rescues her can fulfill the prophecy of '2 become 1'
My quest is temporary on hold. I must find the 'yan uber gorrsay'. I discovered this after listening to 'Mama' from :23 to :27 of the song and then playing the last 14 seconds of 'Last Time Lover'. It was then I discovered that I must enter the 'Spice-rit World' never to return. I must bypass the gates of the Spirit World and locate the afterlife that contains all Spice. It is there that I find the Path of Spicage. I will follow it to the Spice Sea where the keeper will sail me to the Island of Spices. But for a ride on his boat I want answer the riddle "What do you really really want?" When I anwer the 'The love of Baby', my journy will continue.
But to enter the Spice-rit World, I must find a person with Spice of heart and Spice of mind. He or she must split my skull with one blow with a hatchet, separating my left and right brain. Immediately after doing this, he or she must shove the CD directly into my split brain and then tape my head back together with duct tape.
I ask all who are reading this listen to "Some Kind of Funny". Write down every tenth word and also include the 14th, 27th, and 56th word. When you have all the words written down, take the middle word and write down the last letter of the word. If that letter is also the first letter of your first name, then continue.
With your list, take the first letter of the first word and write it down. On the next word, write dwn the 3rd letter. Alternate between 1st and 3rd letters of the words until you reach the end, but beware on the 6th, 9th, and 13th word, you must use the fourth letter. When all the letters are written down, arrange the letters so that it spells your name EXACTLY!!! First, middle, and last. If you can make out your exact name with no letters left over, you are the one I seek. Please contact me.
I am serious, this world has nothing for me. I must rescue Baby to find my true happiness. She has been so lonely for so long, she needs her warrior to rescue her. It is my destiny to be with Baby Spice in a world where it is always 1997.
Spice Girls.......2007-05-06
Let's take a look here:
Posh Spice- Victoria Adams
Scary Spice- Mel B
Sporty Spice- Mel C
Ginger Spice- Geri
Baby Spice- Emma
I have 2 say, I'm quite impressed. The Spice Girls, without a doubt, is the most popular gurl-group of all time. Hey, they brought the world of pop back!!! And major style. They all wear fab clothes, especially Posh and Baby Spice.
Did any of u ppl out there in the world go to a Spice Girls concert?? One where there is ALL 5 of the Spice Girls?? If so, what was it like?? Did they wear fab clothes?? And etc??? My Gawd, I >33 dem sooo much!!!!!
My absolutely fave song is Wannabe, it just rox!!! And it's gream 2 jam w/ u and ur friends!!!!
I almost 4got about the Spice Girls until I watched Spice World, which happens 2 b a fantastic movie, one of my actual favourites. I hope the Spice Girls reunite!! I want dem 2 sooooo baaaadd!!!!!!
Can be used so many ways.......2007-04-03
This CD is great because although there is no musical value to what is recorded on it, you can still use it for things. I used it one day to scrape the gum off my shoe. Another day my friend used it to scrape scum off the inside of a toilet. After that we cleaned it up and then used it of course, as a coaster! It was so rewarding to see it slowly get beat to a pulp but still not use value. Eventually it got cracked and then I just threw it in the trash. So yes people, although the musical value on it is a big fat nada casta, you can still not feel bad and use it for other things, like scraping gum off of a gym floor or something.
Wannabe is Great.......2007-03-13
The Spice girls hit it off really well with Wannabe. Gorgeous voices, and harmonies start this cd off. The Spice Girls are talented enough to sing through the cd and dance at the same time. GReat Job!!
Rating for each song! Read this! It's very helpful........2007-01-29
Here I will rate each song out of 10. Please enjoy.
Wannabe - 10/10
Their biggest hit ever! It was very popular! To me, it never gets old. It's sassy, and bubblegum pop sound is irresistable!
Say You'll Be There - 9/10
Can be boring at some parts, but it's still good. It sounds sort of oldies/country/pop!
2 Become 1 - 10/10
A song about sex, but not in a crude way at all. Very sweet, candy, teeneager sounding, but it's a slow, nice song.
Love Thing - 8/10
They should have released this! It's really catchy and sort of techno! For some reason, I think it sounds like a Macy Gray song. Very good.
Last Time Lover - 10/10
This song, is perfect in every way! It's sexy, catchy, and great! In a way, I'm glad that they didn't release it because that would have been weird. It's one of those songs that makes you glad that you bought the album.
Mama - 9.5/10
Very touching. A very popular mother's day song. It would be great to sing on Mother's day to your mom! (haha!) Some might think it's boring, so I was forced to take off half a point...! Definitely worth listening to, and it's a very long song.
Who Do You Think You Are - 7/10
Sort of catchy, and very loud sounding. Song with lots of energy! Just not even close to the best song on here. It didn't really deserve any higher than a 7.
Something Kinda Funny - 8/10
Great song. It's sort of boring, though. You'd have to listen to it 15 times before it gets stuck in your head!
Naked - 99/10
BEST SONG ON THIS ALBUM! This is my topped played song on my iPod! The should have released it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sexy song, very, very, very catchy. Great for long car rides! It's very serious sounding, and full of bass. Slow song at beginning, but then it speeds up. Great.
If U Can't Dance - 6/10
Every album has it's weak point, and for this album...it's this song. I still like this song, but it's just that song that you try to like so much, that you end up not liking it even more in the end. They sound like tone-deaf robots in the beginning. You should listen to it, and maybe you'll think differently. It's kind of like a dance song, but the beat is slightly slower than most.
That was my review of the Spice Girls' debut album, 'Spice'! Hope it helped! ^_^

"Spice up your life," the Spice Girls advise on the first single from Spiceworld, their second album, which was made quickly to capitalize on the movie of the same name. If that sounds more like an advertising slogan than a call for variety, solidarity, and fun, it's not the only time the disc echoes the language of a carefully planned campaign: The chorus of "Move Over" is built around the phrase "Generation Next," the rallying cry of the Brits' Pepsi spot. And if, in turn, you come to the conclusion that this record isn't nearly as much fun as its predecessor, you're right. Any question about the creative input of Scary, Posh, Baby, Ginger, and Sporty into their own music is moot; like "Candle in the Wind 1997," Spiceworld was made to be bought, not listened to. Sure, they trade vocals this time, leaning less on the Bananarama-style gang approach of their debut, and yeah, the Motown-lite confection "Stop" doesn't exactly hurt the ear, but this disc is ultimately a bigger insult than anything a bunch of diehard anarchists such as Chumbawamba could imagine--without the kick of "Tubthumping." It also ends on a note so jarring as to settle the group firmly in the avant-garde with the fake-lounge "Lady Is a Vamp," which unfortunately praises Jackie O and Marilyn Monroe in the same verse, then ups the ante with a shout-out to Sandy Denny(!) as a Spicy role model. All together now: Uh huh. --Rickey Wright
Album Description
Japanese edition of their second album with 'Step To Me' added as an unmarked bonus track. 11 tracks total, also featuring the hits 'Spice Up Your Life' & 'Too Much'. A Virgin Records release.

CLASSIC!.......2007-04-04
This was a movie I got for my daughters friend and she loves it! To remind you she is 13 and enjoys the lovable and light hearted movie!
The Best Stupid Movie I've Ever Seen.......2007-03-12
This movie is simply hilarious. I was quite captivated by the Spice Girls when this movie first came out. Shortly after, I outgrew them, but I still LOVE this movie. Anyone who has not seen it, needs to. Period.
Cruel Brittania.......2007-02-13
Britain, circa 1997. Tony Blair is elected P.M. Princess Di perishes. And the Spice Girls are unleashed to an unsuspecting public. This effort is an attempt to cash in on the phenomenon before a fickle populace turns their attention to the next best thing. To be fair, the girls are not to blame for what a tedious flick this is. Rather, they are appealing and prove to be the film's lone redeeming factor. The fault lies in the script that tries to do for the Spice Girls what "A Hard Days' Night" did for the Beatles. Whereas the Fab Four's film was full of wit and cogent commentary on Beatlemania this flick is unfunny and basically incoherent about what it's trying to say about the Spice craze. I was reminded more of the Monkees' "Head" than I was of "A Hard Days' Night". Lots of celeb cameos (Roger Moore, Elton John, et al) that amount to naught. Oh, well. On to "From Justin to Kelly".
Loves It.......2007-01-25
I had this movie on VHS, and lost it. One day I had this incredibly strong urge to watch it, so I ordered it and now I watch it all the time. It's fun to sing along to in a group. One thing, the dance instructor isn't saying "porta bra," he is actually saying "port de bras," a French term for movement of the arms that is used in ballet.
Spice!.......2007-01-19
I think this movie is great! it first came out when i was 2, and i remember all the time i wanted to watch it. just last year i saw it in the first in 9 years! all those GREAT song like "Too Much" and "Stop!". i also had "Spice Girls: One Hour of Girl Power" and my mum and dad used to put it on when i was born! i still reckon the spice girls are great and i cant belive that i forgot all about them! My Cousin just reminded my about them at my other cousins birthday. my favourite song would have to be "Who Do You Think You Are"

This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. The kids will laugh; their parents will laugh even harder for completely different reasons. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

my little one loves Chicken Little.......2007-04-05
My husband bought the Chicken Little movie for our 3 year old (mostly to get us OFF the Cars movie that we all have memorized) and he fell in love with it! He likes to act out the scenes and loves the music. He loves this CD at night when he's going to bed. We all have to dance to One Little Slip (he knows all the words) and then we have to "shake our tail feathers" before he jumps in bed every night! I enjoy the cd too, so it's good for everyone!
this is a great kids cd!!.......2007-03-24
My daughter absolutely loves this cd. I could not find it anywhere until i looked on amazon, so thank you amazon!!
Great soundtrack for the children, especially if they liked the movie!.......2007-03-14
My son loved the movie Chicken Little, so we decided to purchase this for him to listen to on his discman. He loves the soundtrack as much as the movie, which made it an awesome investment(especially since the soundtrack has many good singers that aren't too hard on the ears for the adult crowdes either). My son was very happy with this item, and so was I.
Her favorite gift..........2006-12-23
I bought the CD to accompany the movie. My four year old watches the movie everyday. When I gave her the CD, after listening to it nightly, she takes it to bed with her everynight where I have to pry it out of her hands after she falls off to sleep. I don't get it, but she does...so it's worth what I paid for it.
Chicken Little Soundtrack.......2006-08-29
This is a great soundtrack from a variety of different artists. If your child loved the movie you will absolutely love this CD!!!

Since we last heard from them, the Spice Girls have hired new producers and writers, hoping to adopt an R&B edge with harder beats and a grittier sound. Gone are the cuddly wannabes of yesteryear, replaced by thinner, tougher glamazons of the new millennium Spice World. But Forever's strategy is a serious misstep--one that will disappoint their old fans and alienate new ones. "Holler," the first single, is standard-issue urban pop, with a beat you've heard before and terribly generic lyrics, promising to make you "do things you thought you would never do." As a matter of fact, you've heard all of this before: for "Tell Me Why," the Girls bite the computer-generated voice from TLC's Fan Mail, and borrow the vocoder from Cher's "Believe" sessions. "Right Back at Ya," their official comeback anthem, is trite and predictable: "Our friendship is forever," Baby Spice testifies. "You thought we wouldn't make it this far," Sporty sneers, and she's right. But they haven't made it yet--and with this material they don't deserve to. --Courtney Kemp
Customer Reviews:
Hip, UP-Beat, and Awesome! Track by Track Review........2007-07-05
Here is my Track by Track review of Forever by the Spice Girls. Hope you enjoy it!!
1. Holler - 10/10
WOW! The song is great, and catchy, and the video is good, too! Awesome choice for a single. Just great. Theres nothing much else I can say about it!! Mel B (Scary)'s voice shines in this song.
2. Tell Me Why - 10/10
A song meant for Geri (Ginger), asking her why she abandoned them. This should have been released instead of 'Goodbye'. Definite number one. Victoria (Posh)'s voice shines in this song.
3. Let Love Lead The Way - 10/10
Released with 'Holler'. Of course, both got to number one. Best slow song on the album. Wonderful, and maybe the most catchy on the whole album. Mel C (Sporty)'s voice shines in this song.
4. Right Back At Ya - 9/10
Great for dancing, and parties. I wish that they would redo this song with Geri (Ginger) and get back together. The only problem with this song, taking away one point, it that their voiced, when combined, sound a little off in this song. Victoria (Posh)'s voice shines in this song.
5. Get Down With Me - 10/10
Best song on the whole album. Dance song, and also, very upbeat. Gotta love it. Mel B (Scary)'s voice shines in this song.
6. Wasting My Time - 10/10
Another 10/10! I can't help it. The whispering style of this dance song is iresistible! Mel C (Sporty)'s voice shines in this song.
7. Weekend Love - 8/10
This song has a great theme. It is slow, and Mel B's rap in this song doesn't really fit it, but it is still kind of catchy. Emma (Baby)'s voice shines in this song.
8. Time Goes By - 3/10
Yes, that is a 3/10. This is definitely the weak point of this album. Not catchy, and their voices seem out of place. Nobody's voice shines in this song.
9. If You Wanna Have Some Fun - 10/10
Is this sng slow, or fast. It's kinda both, and they fit perfectly together. The verses are much better than the chorus, though. Emma (Baby)'s voice shines in this song.
10. Oxygen - 5/10
Not a good tune to this song. It's weird because all of their voices shine in this song but it still manages to be somewhat bad. I try to ignore this song, but still not as much as 'Time Goes By'. All of their voices shine in this song.
11. Goodbye - 9/10
A song to bid farewell to Geri (Ginger). Very nice, and the No No No No's are sung well, by Emma. All of their voices shine in this song.
OVERALL ALBUM - 10/10
'Time Goes By', and 'Oxygen' fail to keep this album from a perfect ten! If you have the extra cash, you have to buy this!
TOTAL CRAP.......2007-06-30
I cannot believe that some of the obviously deaf reviewers dared to compare the Spice Girls with the Beatles.
Let me see..The Beatles were very good vocalists, great songwriters and could play a variety of instruments with great skill.
The spice girs can't sing, can't write songs and can't play any instruments.
Why, even the Bay City Rollers were better then the spice girls.
They will do a comeback I hear..Mind you, there are obviously many fools (see idiotic reviews) to part with their money to listen these tacky 10th raters mime away!
What I thought of this album? My 2 year old niece has a very bad music taste...
THE TRUTH
Spice girls really add a lot spice to your life!!!.......2007-03-13
HI: The spice girls came out ten years ago as the pop sensation of the 90's. They are a talented bunch of musicians and singers!!!Songs are catchy and easy to sing along to. I really like them. It's not too rockish, and not something you'd fall asleep to. Forever has a great deal of nice songs. I especially like : Let love lead the way, and Time goes By.> Great job by the Spice Girls!!
Very Disappointed with Spice Girls.......2007-02-16
The reason they stopped making albums because of Geri disappeared because this album was to tell Geri how they felt. The reason Geri quit because these 4 girls were making fun of Geri because she supported and loved Mariah Carey. I am a huge fan of Mariah Carey!!! I used to love their first and second albums and I never thought about buying their 3rd album because of Geri disappeared. I knew they wouldnt make 4th album and I was right!!! If they understood Geri and if Geri still working with them I am very sure they would make alot of albums by now. I sold my 1st and 2nd albums to a good friend of mine because I really didnt want to listen to these 4 girls singing after what they had done to Geri and talked real bad things about Mariah Carey.
didn't make me "holla" like the first 2 albums.......2007-02-03
I was big on r&b and hip hop in the late 90's and barely listened to pop. Spice girls were the exception, I ADMIRED them. So when I heard they were doing an r&b album I was really excited. Holla was a good song but not great. The verses sounded a little bit like a rip off from the Lucy Pearl song Dance Tonight that had come out earlier that year. Weekend Love and several others were alright but didn't exactly move me much. Rodney Jerkins and the Flyte Time team work great with other artists, but the chemistry just wasn't there with the spice girls. Easily forgettable.

superb album.......2007-05-13
I absolutely love this album!!! It has not left my cd player!!!
Its beautiful, smooth, it takes the listener away to that beautiful place called JA, in one song the singer sings "its a sunny day here in JA the atmosphere is clean i'd love to see the people living violence free" He managed to make the island sound like the paradise it is inspite of the violence that exists in certain sections of the society, he has a nice mixture of conscious tunes which talks about the ills that plaque the jamaican society, and he also has The Lovers Rock, as is seen with songs like "Brown Skin", "Grooving my girl", and "uptown girl" Richie you you did it before with the Album spice in your life, But you really did it this time with In the streets to africa. It hasnt gotten old yet and i listen to it every day!!!
RICHIE SPICE NICE!.......2007-02-20
IN THE STREETS TO AFRICA: Richie Spice finally graduates to the majors with this, his debut for VP - thereby qualifying for glossy packaging and even a bonus DVD - though in many ways this is very similar to his previous SPICE IN YOUR LIFE. Like SPICE IN YOUR LIFE, IN THE STREETS TO AFRICA is basically a collection of singles of various vintage, a couple of combination cuts, and a sprinkling of new tunes appearing here for the first time.
Richie Spice, a.k.a Richie Bonner, has rarely been sighted outside the studios in the last couple of years, and chances are good that if you're into reggae, you'll already be familiar with several selections, including the excellent Bobby Konders-produced OPEN THE DOOR and the massive YOUTHS DEM COLD (based on Johnny Osbourne's classic TRUTH & RIGHTS, of course), as well as definitive vocals for Down Sound's MAROON rhythm (the very spiritual, very beautiful MOTHERLAND CALLING) and Vendetta's HEAVENLY (the romantic BROWN SKIN). You've also likely heard TAKE IT EASY on the MY BABY rhythm that backed Kiprich's smash hit TELEPHONE TING, which must be close to three years old now. GROOVIN MY GIRL, which actually made it onto Richie's first album, UNIVERSAL (released back in 2000, if I remember rightly), is even less fresh.
Fortunately, the new material is all first rate. Highlights are the excellent minor key masterpiece SUNNY DAY, two great lovers lyrics, UPTOWN GIRL and BABY FACE featuring the Bonner brothers, Spanner Banner and Pliers, and the very melodic, motivational opener, GET UP. There's also a follow up to the huge hit MARIJUANA, the blazing HIGH GRADE, and a combination with the late and very great Joseph Hill on DIGITAL WAYS - amazing to hear how the Culture singer's voice survived almost entirely intact right up to the end. BABYLON A GALONG and CAN'T STOP LOVING JAH are also solid.
Probably the biggest surprise is the bonus DVD. More often than not these so-called bonus discs are throwaways, but VP has done a great job here. Included are videos for BROWN SKIN, OPEN THE DOOR and YOUTHS DEM COLD, and a well-made documentary featuring interviews with Richie and his family and friends. Best of all is a great street-side live session featuring just an acoustic guitar, two hand drums and a backing singer, and taking in favourites like BLOOD AGAIN, EARTH A RUN RED, GHETTO GIRL and BROWN SKIN. This is easily one of the best live performances I've heard from a roots reggae artist in a long time, even if some elements are obviously staged - Richie Spice is really feeling the vibes here.
On the whole, IN THE STREETS TO AFRICA probably isn't the classic long player that this artist is clearly capable of delivering. It feels a bit patched-up at times for sure, and almost half the playlist is previously released. On the other hand, with some crucial new cuts included and a bonus DVD that is actually a bonus for once, IN THE STREETS is definitely worth your hard earn-eds. Don't miss it.
Also, watch out for more Richie Spice in April, when the very much less than reliable Penitentiary label has something called MOTHERLAND AFRICA scheduled for release. Hmmmmmm...??
Its Burning!. . ........2007-02-20
While the year 2007 continues to line itself up there are several high-powered albums set to be released this year. Besides the expected new releases from Bounty Killer, his (ever shrinking) Alliance, Lady Saw, Elephant Man and the allowance of Sizzla's 3-4 albums, also perhaps in the offering are albums from, among others, Capleton, Assassin, I-Wayne, Chuck Fenda and the inevitable Aidonia and Mavado debuts. However, amongst roots reggae-heads, perhaps no album (besides maybe Jah Cure's first post-release album) carries more hopes and anticipation than those of Richie Spice's fourth full length studio album and debut on reggae major VPRecords, In the Streets to Africa. With 2006 proving to be one of the most pivotal years of Spice's career, as he ultimately established himself into the next echelon of roots singers and an almost guaranteed hitmaker in JA, it was only natural that he would be the next big artist of the few who gets a deal in reggae music, and the result is the somewhat complicated In the Streets to Africa.
Richie Spice is the younger brother of singers Pliers (of Chaka Demus & Pliers fame), underrated singer Spanner Banner (with whom he tours) and lesser known do Snatcher Dogg and he has without a doubt come out of that shadow (if he were ever in it) to become one of the most in demand local artists in all of reggae music. Internationally, he has gained a mass attention due to the release of MASSIVE tunes such as 911, Blood Again, Marijuana, Righteous Youths, Ghetto Girl and his biggest hit to date, the epochal Earth a Run Red. His popularity reached such an unusual level after building it (it almost seemed like Spice left the island and went on tour and returned 20x bigger than when he left!) that upon signing Spice to a multi-album deal, VPRecords almost immediately re-released his only 2 year old third album, the poorly distributed, yet LOADED Spice in Your Life from his base label, Fifth Element (VP also released FE's I Swear riddim a couple of years earlier).
For his own part, Spice has become one of the more visible artists in Jamaica appearing on all the big shows and nearly every big roots riddim to emerge over the past 3-4 years. He, along with former stablemates Chuck Fenda and Anthony Cruz put Fifth Element on the map as one of the big emerging roots camps and further solidified reggae music's return to roots. His own style is something that I call right in the middle. Taking two ridiculous extremes in terms of voice; Jah Cure's beautiful shattering unearthly stone vocals on one end and Luciano's deep and mellow vibes on the other, Richie Spice's soulful wail is part Cure and part Luci. His style of writing is close to one of his peers, singer Bushman in that they both tend to write about on earth, tangible situations and problems. Spice, probably from growing up with his family has that start quality however, besides making beautiful beautiful music and staying far away from Jamaican tabloids, Spice, however, manages to stay firmly in the limelight.
The much anticipated In the Streets to Africa is somewhat of an odd album. It harkens back to the era of mid-late 90's dancehall albums which were as much compilations as they were actual albums. Fans of Spice might actually come away disappointed for awhile while catching the vibes from In the Streets to Africa. I, myself was included in that group and it took about a week of straight listening to truly appreciate the album, I had heard MUCH of the material before, and at this level, that isn't necessarily the best approach to take.
Despite that fact, that, ultimately doesn't take too much away from the album at all, the songs are still easy to appreciate (I'm just thankful VP didn't role out Folly Living for this one as soooooooo many compilations from the past 3 years have done.). What I'm begrudgingly calling the album's best track is official first single, Brown Skin over Vendetta's brilliant Heavenly riddim. Brown Skin is about as POWERFUL of a love song as you might find in all of modern roots reggae. The very fact that it managed to distinguish itself on the Heavenly which backs many strong tracks is force enough in itself, however, standing on its own merits alone, Spice absolutely hit a winner the second he stepped out of Vendetta's booth.
Continuing along that same vibes, In the Streets to Africa is an album full of wonderful lover's material. Check the wonderful previous single, Groovin My Girl. The song kind of gets overlooked besides the three other big lover's tracks here, but definitely holds its own amongst them (even though it was actually on Spice`s second album, Universal from 2000). Check the almost over-abundance that is Baby Face which features Spice's two older singing brothers Spanner Banner and Pliers. The song, an odd combination between brothers is MAGICAL. it's a lovely idea and a powerful vibes and definitely a potential singing as VP continues to promote the album, it would be wonderful to perhaps see the song performed live one day as the brothers Bonner shine on the tune. The additional lover's tune on the album is the previous hit single Uptown Girl over the State of Emergency riddim. Not much can be said about Uptown Girl, it's a very very strong song actually uplifting the Black woman, very mandatory selection from In the Streets to Africa.
Other standouts include Motherland Calling from Downsound's Maroon riddim, which was definitely one of my favorites from the strong strong nyah backed riddim. Of course Massive B's Youth Dem Cold we've all been vibing to for a while now, still a very big track and one of Spice's career best (it actually sounds like something that would have been better placed on the Spice in Your Life album; and check Take it Easy from the (Telephone Ting) My Baby riddim, again, we've all grown quite fond of the tune by now.
However, when you look at the track listing for In the Streets to Africa, for heavy reggae fans, one track will undoubtedly stick out on paper alone. The downright brilliant Digital Ways featuring the late great Father Culture himself, Joseph Hill. We lost Mr Hill last year but its because of wonderful material like Digital Ways, a call to not forget the ways of old, that he shall never be forgotten, and the well versed Spice definitely holds his own with the legend. Digital Ways definitely the biggest surprise from the album and a check to make sure that you're still paying attention.
Also, I'd be doing you a disservice not to mention the two openers, both Get Up and Open the Doors are wonderfully strong tracks and an excellent way to get this album kicked off to a fine start. Babylon a Gwaan is also a very very strong track and is probably my third favorite here overall, after Brown Skin and Digital Ways. Also present in the earliest release is a very useful DVD featuring behind the scenes material of Spice, videos and performance bits. The CD/DVD combination is becoming increasingly common in music and reggae has jumped on that train as well with VP doing fine jobs on this one, as well as Tanya Stephens' Rebelution and Soca and Reggae Gold 2006 albums.
Overall, if you haven't been listening to Richie Spice much over the past couple of years (then you probably won't have read this far into this review) then you will LIKELY be even more fond of the album than I am. It is that strong of an album and actually through several listening sessions with it, it got stronger and stronger as I started to look at it as a whole and not just a collection of singles. Blame does have to go somewhere for failure to deliver more fresh material, while that rarely is a problem in reggae-circles to date, as we enter a stage where more and more money is spent on the vibes, you almost have to deliver that fresh batch to fulfill the title `new Richie Spice album', where before, we were just happy that our favorite artist had a new album out. Fans you'll still check this one out of course and new fans you'll enjoy it more, either way, support good reggae music, pick up In the Streets to Africa by Richie Spice and tell them Bramoi sent you!

Is music for a good cause a good cause for music? Not really, if you expect artistry. But this smorgasbord of popular international musical stars brings together extreme musical genres for an excellent purpose, and is enjoyable enough for almost anyone. Pavarotti's relaxed and buoyant leadership and still gorgeous tenor add beauty to the rock/pop selections. Trisha Yearwood, Celine Dion, and Stevie Wonder impressively hold their own against Opera Spice; but the other artists pale against the master's presence. The Spice Girls will never be confused with Anonymous 4; Zucchero's growling is scary; Florent Pagny exemplifies French rock; and Pino Daniele's breathy tenor is mellow and soothing. Best for those wanting to experience Pavarotti's vocal beauty in a more popular idiom. --Barbara Eisner Bayer
Customer Reviews:
A Superb Collection of Music.......2002-11-14
As a musician, I first ran into this disk as a PBS broadcast. What caught my ear was that every song in the concert has "the groove." Other than a children's choral cut, not a single song in the entire collection has a flaw. You'd think the Spice Girls would be a silly addition to the concert, but they do a tremendous job. Each artist appears twice, usually with Pavaotti in one of their songs, sometimes twice. Vanessa Williams is Hot! and does an incredible dance number. The engineering is excellent, with solid side-to-side separation for a really "big" sound. All in all, this is one of the favorite CDs in my music library.
This is a delightful combination of music talents to enjoy!.......1999-04-01
We first saw Pavarotti and Friends on Public Television as a fundraising event. We found the CD and especially love to listen to this CD in our car which has a great sound system. Each vocalist is so special and you will be singing along with them after a couple of plays!
This will tenderize your heart........1999-03-07
Brilliant talent for needy children, that touches the soul, and sets it on fire. Your tears will soak your socks. James
Phenomenal !! A must have for any music library........1998-12-29
A most wonderful gathering of some of the world's greatest vocalists. Such a unique blend of international Modern & Classical. If one were to put to test the ability of a vocalist to adapt to a variety of melodies, this is it. Grab your lover and take a trip in their arms with this CD!!
Outstanding Music, bringing Pavarotti to new heights........1998-12-06
Easily the best in the Pavarotti & Friends series. Always an artist on the cutting edge, with this album, Pavarotti's work will have great appeal to his fans and to scores of new enthusiasts. His duets with the Spice Girls, Vanessa Williams, Zucchero, and Stevie Wonder make it obvious that his voice has adaptability and a passion that takes it into many musical genres with ease. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Sting once commented that great music occurs in the "synaptic gaps" where many different styles come together - this is an album that epitomizes the concept. Neopolitan music is a folk music in Italy, with overtones of American folk/country/jazz/rock, and Pavarotti is the Neopolitan master. This is a perfect fit of artists and selected titles. Earlier combinations of artists in this series were often much too somber, much less fun. Give this one to your teens or your great grandmother ... they'll find they have more musical tastes in common than they'd have ever imagined.

Classic.......2005-07-15
This album was haaard. The production is classic. Every song from the start to finish has tight rhymes. Spices flow was much more advanced from his first album which is a classic too. I can't sat how much I like this CD. I like what ant banks did with the 'george duke' sample on 'clip & tha trigga' too, since I used to like the original. This is essential if you want good westcoast rap. Also checkout South central cartels 'N' gatz we truss' if you like this. Peace!

This album was Spice's second major label release and it is a good one. Not his best work, but then it's hard if (according to me) all of his albums are worthy of 4 stars (at the least) and most are 5 star classics. Production is good and handled by Ant Banks, EA Ski, Prodeje of South Central Cartel, Too $hort, DJ Xtra LArge, and Johnny Z. Guests are few (on 3 of the 14 songs). It has 1 classic, 2 near classics, 9 good songs, and 1 that's ok and 1 that I skip. This was recorded when he was only about 22, but he holds it down for the East Bay. An album that you have to Check it out.

Absolutely beautiful music!!!.......2006-11-06
This is one of the nicest musical CD's I've ever played for my massage clients! Some of the songs are a little faster than I normally like to play, but all in all, this is some great music!!!
Wonderful relaxing music.......2006-08-31
I bought this cd for my husband who is a massage therapist. It's one of his favorites. Clients enjoy it also. It has a variety of styles that are wonderful variations for guitar.
Good if you like acoustical guitar.......2006-08-03
I enjoy this one for relaxation to acoustical guitar. Not quite as relaxing or long as a CD I bought specifically for massage background music.
Sounds to Soothe and Uplift Your Soul.......2004-04-06
The magical music on this CD will touch the very core of your soul. Brenne's fingers dance over the strings, creating sounds that could only be created by a master guitarist. The songs are beautiful pieces of work; truly inspiring. I use this CD as an accompaniment to my work commute, background music for dinner parties (both group dinners and private dinners for two ;-), and as part of my meditation.
I look forward to more offerings from this artist. Give yourself the gift of this music. You'll be happy you did.
Lady of the Spice Lands.......2003-12-10
As a yoga teacher and massage therapist I highly recommend "Lady of the Spice Lands". I was first introduced to Chris's beautiful CD by one of my yoga students. I played it at class the day she loaned it to me. It was a hit with my students (and massage clients) from the start! Flowing easily from one song to the next, "Lady of the Spice Lands" carries the listener to a faraway place free from stress. Few CD's in my collection can move me to flow through a massage like this one-it's a keeper!
"Lady of the Spice Lands" is one of my favorite gifts to give. I enjoy sharing fresh and lovely music.

This was filled with quality for 91 sound. The production and the flows. Its just got so many good tracks too. I love this CD. Spice was my favourite rapper for a while. It was essential westcoast albums like this that made me like him. Make sure you got this. Peace!
187 Proof Gangster Rap From a Real Gansgter..........2005-03-04
No doubt many of you have slept on Spice 1. But you must know, Spice 1 is the real deal. You will have a hard time finding a fresher, more hardcore brotha kick real gangsta rhymes. He will crack you in the head with a bottle of St. Ides just for maddoggin' him. Spice 1 is straight West Coast, and comes correct with vivid street tales, social commentary, menace, and wit, accompanied by gangstered out G-funk bass moves. His flow is versatile and tight. He is not a man of just one style. Spice 1 can flip it quick, slow, Jamacian, etc. In addition, 1 was down with Tupac and Too-Short, so there's no doubt. And when he tells you that he's gonna 'kill your baby, your dog, and your Mutha F'in family', you know he means it. Spice 1 is also quite the metaphorical master on tracks like '187 Proof'. If you don't know, you owe it to yourself to find out. Check this West COast Mack now!
Top 5 rap CD of the early 90's.......2002-11-26
I remember when I first bought the tape back during the summer of 92. I was told by a co-worker that it was the bomb so I had to go out and get it. I fell in love with it after hearing it the 1st time. If you are looking for real hardcore gangsta rap and not the watered down "club" version of today then this is a must. Not only are there dope ryhmes but this CD has some tight BASS. I have to turn down the Bass level on my CD player on the track 1-900 SPICE because the bass is so heavy. My favorites are EastBaygangsta, 187proof, Peace to my nine, Welcome to the Ghetto and F'' in the game. I still like listening to this CD today even though it is 10years old. This is probably Spice's best CD of all time, it is a classic.
That's where it all started.......1999-04-04
That's Spice 1's first album. Spice 1, one of the greatest rappers ever to hit the West Coast rap scene presnets gangsta rap on a whole new level with cold stories about murderin' and killin' without any second thoughts. Spice has never given a f*** about radio airplay, he's just doin' his own thing, keepin' the gangsta flava popin'. This is his first album. Get this one and all his other albums too and you get tight prodiction, lyrics and delivery and tens of brilliant songs by this so talented artist commin' from the Dirty Bay.
