It's hard to imagine two more talented hipsters than Floetry singer Marsha Ambrosius and emcee Natalie Stewart, a.k.a. the Songstress and Floacist. The U.K. duo's Floetic debut has it all--smooth R&B, soulful jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, supple ballads and a warmth that cradles the listener from beginning to end. In short, it's exquisitely, decidedly feminine. The pair occasional raise the roof with sizzling rhymes and beats, but they clearly place a premium on vibe, evident in Floetic's mostly chilled, after-dark feel. Jill Scott and Michael Jackson have already benefited from Floetry's deft songwriting; Jacko covered Floetry's "Butterflies" on his Invincible disc. A demo version of that song is included here, but that's the least of the bounty. "Hello" is pure honey with the women's silky voices braided in harmony while the dreamy, gently gurgling "Sunshine" is like a soundtrack to a daydream. Comparisons abound (Lauryn Hill-meets-Dionne Warwick as scored by a blunted De La Soul maybe?) but perhaps the best description of Floetic yet unearthed is "sass and soul." And, at almost 70 minutes long, it's a steal. --Kim Hughes

Hard to find CD!!!.......2007-05-30
I love this CD i had been looking for it everywhere. I couldn't find it at the CD stores...
Da album that marks your life!.......2007-05-08
Floetry just keep doing it! They really do create great sounds and the mc ability of floetry is like no other! The feel of this album is amazing! I love all the tracks on this album. Track 3-4-5 awesome tracks! These girl's pull off Stevie Wonders lyrics and song by Michael Jackson "Butterflies" brilliantly! Listen to this track and you can make your judgement then. I'm normally not a fan of songs that are re-done, but Floetry put their own signature on this song and hit it up with something mystical!
Full of life.......2007-03-29
A native of Philadelphia, I was honored to have seen them perform often at the Five Spot (Black Lily). The never disappointed. This was a lounge where people drank, ate and smoked. When ever the Songstress started singing she DEMANDED everyone's undivided attention. She always sounded like a swan, an angel. She sings from the depth of her soul so that she is able to reach yours. What more can you ask for from an artist?
Hottest album,in this galactic SUPERCLUSTER.......2007-01-20
This album OBLITERATES,all of the,commercialized,TRASH,that is cluttering the airways(from artist,like Beyonce,and others,of her type)and giving dudes like myself,ear-infections'with,tired,materialistic,sexual and blase' content!!!Sorry,if anyone is offended,by my opinions...But,the majority of todays' female artist are churning out,INSIPID material!!Some of these chicks'today,literially,wipe their BUTTS'with,a disc,then they put,it out,as,an album!!!Not,these two ingenious ladies'..."Sunshine"became an INSTANT favorite,of mine,the very first time that I played it!!!Usually,a song,has to "wear on me"before I really start,to like it..However,this song displays,some,REAL,feeling and emotion,that,you can almost TOUCH!!You,can tell,without a DOUBT,that,she wants' her"sunshine"BADLY!!The way she sounds like she's crying,while she sings this,really sends'a chill up my spine!!"Now You're Gone"is one of ther most beautiful heart-felt songs,I've EVER heard!!Also,this gem,of a recording,is filled with PROFOUND,statements'that you won't find,on the VAST,majority,of todays'lackluster,musical"efforts"...Statements'such as:"It's BETTER,that it HURTS".That's Deep!! FOUR years'after first hearing"Sunshine",i'm STILL,impressed,by the hidden"twist"that was revealed,at the end of that song!!!Pure GENIUS!!This album,set the bar,for any disc,that I toss,into my radio!! Only,gifted,artist,such as"Lamya"and"Siloam Pool"can cause me,to give my "Floetic" disc a"break"...(for a MINUTE)'Cause,this is"Filet Mignon"admid todays'Salisbury steak offerings!
Almost Perfect.......2006-12-02
Floetry is perhaps best known for writing Michael Jackson's 2001 hit, Butterflies. They have also writed for a handful of artists in the last few years. Floetry has managed to put together a stunning debut that is full of various moods and expressions. One thing I like about this album is that the meaning of each song is featured in the linear notes. That is something you rarely see. It allows you to connect even more with the artists knowing what went into forming that particular song. Marsha's(the songtress)voice is very calm, soothing, and mellow. Together the ladies somehow make the whole thing work. My only complaint is that I'm not big on the last few tracks of the album. That one gripe can simply be overlooked on this otherwise stunning and surprisingly great debut from these London Soul Sistas.
