Through the years, the path to superstardom dictated that he trade the crisp Western swing of "Right or Wrong" and "Ace in the Hole" for squishy, mid-tempo crowd pleasers like "Check Yes or No" and "Write This Down." But he redeemed himself with such poignant heartbreakers as "So Much Like My Dad" and "…Smile." This is a fantastic CD! It has all of George's #1 hits in one place. I love his music because it's true country. His voice is so smooth and the CD offers a variety of ballads, upbeat tempos and swing. It's a great variety of music on one CD. He's so talented and really knows how to choose songs for his CD's. The only thing about this one is that it doesn't include "Amarillo by Morning". I would have thought it would have also been a #1 hit. This is a great CD and I would highly recommend it to anyone, country music lover or not!

It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.

This CD is a great way to enjoy a large variety of Classical Composers & many of their best known pieces. Vivaldi's "Four Seasons," is an all time favorite. There are vocals, Piano pieces, & some fine Violins. I found the latter the most enjoyable. Here you can find Rodrigo & Pachelbell. Samuel Barber's haunting Adagio will make your skin tingle. This may not be to everyones taste, but if you wish to relax? Give this a couple of listens.

I stumbled onto this album whilst searching bit torrent websites for classical music. I don't normally listen to classical music but thought it might be relaxing for my pregnant wife. After hearing the quality of the performances, the arrangement, and the recording I decided to buy the album from amazon. All the songs you would expect from a "best album in the world" are there and they are not boring to listen to like a lot of other classical albums. I now play this album in the car constantly and the wife requested it be played at the hospital during the birth.

So i'm a classical music veteran, someone who prefers to collect a complete work, rather than classical compilations. I probably would not have listened to this album at all if my dad didnt buy it for me as a gift. By now, i own the complete works that over half of the excepts on this disc come from. I am a purist if ever there was one.

That said, i totally adore this set because i have learned to take it on its own terms. These discs weren't meant for expert classical listeners, so a review from that sort of mindset is useless. This set was meant for pure, easy listening, and for a basic starters kit for classical newbies. Most of all, it was just meant to do what the title says, to relax the average human being. classical expert or not.

Yes, some of these pieces have been altered or shortened, like Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto Andantino, but they have been edited for a good enough reason: the full versions would have been too long to flow with the rest of the album. And also, the full versions contain so much development that they don't become easy listening anymore. The shortened versions work in the context of the album. Most essentially, the shortened versions on the discs still convey the main flavor the composers were going for. The melodies and themes remain unchanged.

To sum up, it is true that when i want to actually listen deeply to classical music, this album would never be a choice. I would want to hear the complete works like the composers intended. But at certain times when i simply don't mind about that stuff, when i just need to loosen up and free my mind of stress with some nice melodies, this set does the job well enough.

Last but not least: being a purist and a classical buff, i am very particular about performance quality. I was very glad to find that EMI did not get lazy about this. All the artists are world-class, and all the performances are at least exceptional. Some performances are even quite excellent, like the Clair De Lune, which is one of the best i've heard. (Credit to Dame Lympany, the pianist.)

So once again, recommended for its stated purpose, to relax. I am a purist, a classical buff, and i still enjoy this disc. That says something.

This album along with Volume 2 are now the two most valued albums in my music collection. I have all of the songs contained on these two albums but they are scattered through at least a dozen different albums and several are not performed by artists such as those that recorded this album and Volume 2.

I loved adding these to my collection. The 50s theme is delightful. I sent a deck of these to my sister as part of a 50s birthday package. She said, "Sorry I haven't worked much with tarot for some time but I'll give them a try." She found the cards,instruction book, and recipes to be delightful. We bought this CD for our daughter's wedding. After reviewing it, we could have saved our money. The version of Funiculi sounded like the Salvation Army band and it was totally lifeless. Lou Monte's Hey Gumbaree (it is actually Eh Cumpare in Italian--that should have given it away) was awful, and he consistently butchers the Italian language in all his other songs (annoying, I mean, couldn't he have learned the right pronunciation?).

While Perry Como and others have melodic voices (and very wisely sing in English because they don't know Italian), these are '50s versions of the songs, for the most part. While you have to appreciate them, they are really old and reflect the '50s type of instrumention and style. Would have loved to have heard all these songs done in a fresh and original way. Soldi Soldi was our favorite by far, and that is why we gave the CD two stars.

Could have gone to the library for this one.

Thanks for letting me voice our opinion. We are a big Italian family and just spent hundreds of dollars buying every CD out there for our daughter's wedding and figured we would share our opinion with others.

The CD was used as part of an Italia Fiesta we organised in Albury NSW, Australia. The music helped in setting the party atmosphere for the evening. The evening was held as fund raiser for the Murray Valley Sactuary Refugee Group. The evening was very successful.

Appalachian Stomp is an ideal starter disc for those just beginning to explore bluegrass. Mostly this is because its 18 selections are so immediately accessible. The "classics" here, in other words, are usually those infrequent bluegrass cuts to have gained radio recognition beyond a core bluegrass audience. That explains why along with timeless standards such as Flatt & Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and the Osborne Brothers' "Rocky Top" we also get "Dueling Banjos" from the film Deliverance, a cut that is to classic bluegrass what Walter Murphy is to Beethoven. There are less immediately obvious choices too, though. If your previous exposure to bluegrass doesn't go beyond the Holy Trinity of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers--for example, if you've never heard J.D. Crowe & the New South's stellar example of progressive bluegrass, "Old Home Place," or experienced Jimmy Martin lay down the law on his rousing "You Don't Know My Mind"--then you're in for a high-lonesome surprise. --David Cantwell

I am a huge Elvis fan, especially his love songs and gospel music. This CD is excellent and is a very comprehensive collection of his love songs. Even songs that were made famous by other artists, are sung well by him. His renditions are a pleasure to listen to. There is only one Elvis!

I purchased this CD for a play I was directing and the time period was late 1950's. Since I was a teenager then, and had not heard those songs in quite a few years, I decided to play the music at intermission for the audience. It was terrific!
The quality of the CD is clear, and the original artists were a joy to listen to. What a great experience! Billboard's Top Rock & Roll Hits are the best~~~

"Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits: 1957" is one of the most impressive collections from this decade. All you have to do is to look at the lineup, which features two Elvis Presley hits along with classics from Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Paul Anka and The Everly Brothers. You might not remember Buddy Knox and The Diamonds, but I bet you remember their respective hits, "Party Doll" and "Little Darlin'." If you cannot find five cuts on this album that you would like to add to your music collection, then it has to be because you have a lot of CDs and already own most of these classic rock and roll hits. There is a whole lot of shakin' go on with this album, one of the very best of the Billboard collections.

The one thing I remember most about 1957 was that the Milwaukee Braves beat the New York Yankees in the world series, with Lew Burdette winning all three of his starts.

As for the songs of 1957 this album is a nice sample. As usual you can trust Billboard to give you the original hits by the original performers. "All Shook Up" is one of Elvis' better songs from his early years. "Wake Up Little Susie", Everly Brothers, was probably considered a little risque for the time. "Diana" was a top notch hit for Paul Anka and still sounds good after 40+ years. "Party Doll" and "That'll Be The Day" were hits that I was luke warm about even back then. "Jailhouse Rock" was a smash for Elvis, but it has lost it's flavor over the years.

"Little Darlin'" has always been my favorite record from the 50's. The first time I heard it was on the old tv show "Lucky Strike's Hit Parade". Since there was no such thing as oldies radio back then I didn't hear any more after it dropped off the "Hit Parade" chart. But a few years later I found a 78RPM version of "Little Darlin'" on the Mercury label, which I still have. No, that's not a typo, it reall is a 78RPM.
"Peggy Sue" was probably, imho, Buddy Holly's best record. "School Days" and "Whole Lotta Shaking Going On" round out this offering from Billboard.

If your looking for bang for your oldies buck this one is worth the price.

Billboard's book on the Top 40 hits by year shows that the Top 4 hits of 1957 was DON'T FORBID ME, TOO MUCH, YOUNG LOVE (Sonny James), and YOUNG LOVE (Tab Hunter), none of which were included on the CD. They also listed 20 songs making the list that year but the CD only had 10 songs on it.

Most collectors will already have these tracks in their CD library, but neophytes and others who want only the cream of the rock & roll crop from 1957 will be pleased with this CD. All original versions.

His special music uplifts the spirit - always and in all ways. This is a wonderful 2 disc set that surrounds us in a sacred atmosphere. Like a sprinkle of rain on a sunny day, the sampling of favorite hymns refreshes and enlivens the heart.

My mother attended a church her whole life where these hymns were sung and played repeatedly until the music became inextricable from her life. She enjoys this collection immensely; however, it has a few shortcomings. Occasionally some of the hymns are short enough to seem a demo rather than a full-fledged track on the CD. Other times, however, the melodies and harmonies--if simple--engage the listener in a pleasurable experience.

If these hymns are a positive memory for you, you will likely not be disappointed by the offering here for its expansiveness if nothing else. In sum, it is recommended.

They are the songs we grew up with and they just bring back such pleasure to your ears. Great sing along songs and worship and praise and its just wonderful music. All different artists and both albums are just nonstop and great music -- its definitely well worth it!!!

I was looking for a few good CDs of Christian hymns. This received strong reviews, so I bought it. The music is very good quality, not at all a class B production. The vocals are good, harmonious (though they can be a bit loud at a few parts) and the instruments sound great. However, one thing that no reviewer has mentioned is that the songs on these two CDs, all "50" of them, are not full-length. They only sing the first 1 or 2 verses to each song. Basically, they are 2 minute samples of the actual hymns, which is disappointing. I was hoping to learn the words to these songs and be able to sing them as I went about the day. I enjoy that the resources are available, but the case ought to explain these are not full hymns. If this does not bother you, then I would recommend these CDs for their quality. I hope this helps. The music on this CD sounds fantastic, but BE AWARE that they are only short segments of the hymns. For example, I specifically bought the CD for "Be Thou My Vision", which is actually only a short instrumental, and "Crown Him With Many Crowns", which only had one verse. Not good for a rousing sing-along while you do the dishes!

The Cure and a reggae beat certainly make strange bedfellows as, one assumes, do Adam Sandler and a girl with no short-term memory. In that sense, the 50 First Dates soundtrack is a good accompaniment to a fluffy romantic comedy in which one of the main characters is perpetually living in the past. It's also a fitting follow-up to that other Sandler/Barrymore vehicle, The Wedding Singer. (Take a set by Robbie Hart, add a topical shirt, and voilá: a new soundtrack is born.) To those who can't get enough of '80s hits like Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love" and the Cars' "Drive," setting them to a island beat will likely seem whimsical, charming, and perfect for barbecue weather. For those who are glad the '80s are gone, this CD is a pass. And for Sandler-completeists who crave lighthearted, comic tunes like "Forgetful Lucy," well, you obviously own this already. --Leah Weathersby

I loved this movie. I bought this cd thinking it had "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" (by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole) on it as I saw it listed as such. It didn't and I had to order it elsewhere. If you buy this, be aware it doesn't have every song from the movie on it. It's a sweet, easy, fun set of 80's love songs though.

I ordered this CD because when I searched for the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, this CD came up. But, that song is not on this CD. It's full of 80 songs done by cover bands.

One of my favorite movies! A little disappointed with Soundtrack. It did not have all the songs from the movie on it that I liked. My fault, I just assumed it would have All the songs from the movie- I didn't read the songs on the CD before I bought it! Still an ok CD.

I guess they just can't fit all the good music on the soundtrack :-(

One of my favorite missing music bits is a piece that plays near the beginning. The dolphin splashes into the water and they pan down into the office where Ula's shark bite is being stitched up. This music also plays on the main menu for the DVD. It's a very short bit. Anyone know what it is?
