I have never heard the Lord's praises sung more beautifully. Highly recommended collection. The live version of "How Great Thou Art" from 'Elvis In Concert' is a powerful take on the recorded version.

Did you know that Elvis Presley's four Grammy nominations (and two wins) for "Best Sacred or Inspirational Performance" were his ONLY Grammy nominations? Yes, it's true. Elvis' gospel recordings are among his most heartfelt performances. This two CD collection features all the songs from the Peace in the Valley EP, the His Hand in Mind LP, the How Great Thou Art LP, the He Touched Me album and most of his other gospel recordings; including a previously unreleased jam session between Elvis and the Stamps, which was filmed for the documentary Elvis On Tour. Great stuff, but I would recommend getting the three CD collection called Peace in the Valley: The Complete Gospel Recordings. That collection has everything from this collection, plus: the gospel songs from the Million Dollar Quartet jam session, several home recordings, four songs from Elvis movies, "Peace in the Valley" live on the Ed Sullivan Show, "Who Am I?", "Life", "I Got a Feelin' in My Body", two songs from Las Vegas rehearsals, the live version of "Help Me", the "Gospel Medley" from the 1968 Comeback Special, an off-the-cuff performance of "The Lord's Prayer" and the live version of "How Great Thou Art" from the Elvis in Concert television special. Whew! But if you don't want those songs, this collection will be good enough for you.

AMAZING GRACE: ELVIS SACRED PERFORMANCES.......2007-01-09

I loved all of Elvis's music; however, this is the most moving music I HAVE EVER HEARD. When he sings How Great Thou Art -- there isn't any artist that could come close to performing the song as he does. He is magnificient.

I didn't know whether I'd like "religious music" by Elvis, I'd only heard his movie tunes & of course the songs we all know - Hound Dog, etc. I bought this while persuing my personal religious journey, I like Elvis, figured this would be okay to get inspired with. Whoah!!! Elvis usually takes a song makes it his own, sometimes you don't recognize it. He doesn't do that with sacred music. What he does do is enter the Kingdom through song. He sings with intensity, longing & you do not doubt his own religious conviction. I especially love the gospel tunes of his southern upbringing. My favorite songs are Milky White Way & Lead Me, Guide Me. This is a lot of music on 2 cd's, well worth the money.

A "Home"run.......2007-05-18

One of, if not THE, greatest CD that Chapman has ever compiled. There aren't any words for his songs. They hit "home" in ways indescribable. "Not Home Yet" will forever be my favorite SCC song; I based my entire high school valedictorian speech on it. By far one of my favorite CD's that I own. I'd recommend it to absolutely anybody.

I really like Steven Curtis Chapman's songs. The music is very good guitar-driven rhythms and the lyrics are great. This Greatest Hits cd captures the best songs from the first half of his career (First Hand to Signs of Life). I wish it would have included "Let Us Pray" and "I Will Not Go Quietly", but other than that I found it to be a wonderful way to hear a lot of his songs. This CD is a great place to start you SCC collection; I'm sure Greatest Hits 2 is in the working to gather songs from his latest cds (Speechless, Declaration, All About Love, and All Things New). Now go out and get it! (I would have given it 4.5 stars but amazon does not allow that yet!)

This collection contains some of the strongest songs of Steven Curtis Chapman's early career, and serves as a launching pad for all the albums to come. He has grown in strength and confidence over the years, and this album singles out those tracks that have captured him at his peak through each stage.

Two brand new tracks, Not Home Yet and I Am Found In You, give us a glimpse of the Steven Curtis Chapman to come - a much more audibly passionate and uninhibited artist than when he first started out. New versions of Lord of the Dance and The Walk (recorded at Abbey Road Studios) start to capture some of the energy found in Chapman's live performances.

With so many excellent songs to choose from, it must have been difficult to narrow it down to these 14 tracks. You may be surprised at some of the songs that are missing, but you definitely won't be disappointed with any of the ones that made the cut.

While, I'm not a "marching in line" conventional, conservative type Christian, I can appreciate Steven's heartfelt melodies and searching lyrics. In some of his lyrics I find an innocence that is refreshing, refreshing in this day and age when a lot of people assume they KNOW all the answers. He is less arrogant than some of the other contemporary Christian singers.

Why in the world does someone sign up on a site and write one review of an album they have never heard by an artist they are woefully ignorant about?

This isnt really my kind of music ... [I'm much more likely to pop on some black or death metal] ... but I still have some really great childhood memories of this artists music being played by my mother. Country-ish gospel music that certainly deserves better than some 1 star review by someone that doesnt even know what they are talking about.

For those who do not know who Christy Lane is, this CD is a great place to start. She is a true gospel legend. I grew up with her lovely voice. From entertaining the troops of Vietnam to filling my childhood home with her music, I am glad to find a greatest hits collection worthy of her legacy.

How can somebody that has never written a song or to my knowledge ever performed a song in any kind of medium other than self promoted CD's and Commercials actually release a "Greatest Hits" CD? I don't get it.

Only reason I give this CD 1 star is because it's the lowest it can possibly go....and I havn't even heard this CD.

This one seems to cover Randy Travis' most commercially successful period. Every song is not terrific, but enough of them truly stand out so much they make the album great. Among them:
-- Forever and Ever - Perfect country song about unconditional love
-- No Place Like Home - Yes, a traditional song, but sung with a lot of quiet dignity.
-- Is It Still Over? - Flat out one of the funniest songs ever written. A love song for couch potatoes.
-- Promises - You're not going to find a song where the singer reaches deeper into his soul

These are the standouts, and the rest of them make for a very enjoyable package.

Randy Travis voice grabs your heart & soul........1999-09-20

There's something about Randy Travis, when he sings its like he's singing only to you. His voice seems to know just what cord inside of you needs to be touched. My husband and I listen to his cds often. Anyone who has never experienced the power of a Randy Travis song has a void in their lives, they should fill immediately. His voice can put a baby to sleep, soothe hurt feelings, open a slammed door and add romance to a beautiful night. I hope he never runs out of material.

The Whites CD Greatest Hits.......2006-08-16

A superb C & W group, this CD reflects the quality of their music.

Great traditional country with a touch of bluegrass.......2004-02-06

The White family - Buck and his two daughters, Sharon and Cheryl - were steeped in bluegrass, but this collection of their greatest hits from the eighties is a mainstream country album with the occasional bluegrass influence here and there. Though Buck and Cheryl are fine singers, Sharon sang lead on most of their hits with the other two providing backup harmony. The original albums from which this set was compiled gave Buck and Cheryl more opportunity to show their ability as lead singers. Sadly, those albums are long out of print.

The album contains a great mix of ballads and up-tempo songs. These include You put the blue in me (a fine, up-tempo song), If it ain't love (an excellent cover of the Connie Smith classic), Give me back that old familiar feeling (a wonderful ballad) and Forever you (another superb ballad).

Actually, all the songs here are excellent. If you like the music of Ricky Skaggs, you should enjoy this album, most of which was produced by Ricky.

An Indication of What's to Come.......2002-02-28

This 1987 album should have given fair warning that this was a pure country, crystal clear voiced toe-tappin' trio for the ages. The White's are pure unadulterated country, and proud of it. With the deft hand of Ricky Skaggs (husband to Sharon) producing, this is an album to be collected and cherished.

What a Disappointment!.......2002-01-27

After listening to the soundtrack from "Oh, Brother etc" and the sequel "down from the Mountain" I thought I was in for more good old time bluegrass. Instead, this album is yet another slickly produced higly commercial mainstream Nashville glop. The only thing missing are the rhinestones. I should have known when I saw the record was produced by Ricky Skaggs -- mainstream Country music. Oh well, live and learn

wonderful family harmony at a budget price.......2000-09-07

This collection of music from Sharon, Cheryl, and Buck White contains 10 of their 12 top 40 hits on Curb Records from this staple of the Grand Ole Opry and it does show their versatility and their talent which is genuine. All 10 songs are great but a few standout tracks include "You Put The Blue In Me," "Hometown Gossip," and "Forever You," which are romantic; the nostalgic "Give Me Back That Old Familiar Feeling"; "Pins and Needles"; the western swing-like "Hangin' Around"; "When The New Wears off of Our Love" which is about new love fading away and still being in love; and "If It Ain't Love (Let's Leave It Alone)" which exhibits their bluegrass influences. If you like the close harmony style in country music, you'll definitely like this CD whether you are a new fan to country music or if you are a long time fan of country music as this is the real deal, even bluegrass fans will enjoy this. Great talent like this is worth paying any price as I can't believe the CD is so cheap and affordable and the CD is definitely worth buying.

Best Compilation available.......2005-07-13

I bought this CD just Today, initially attracted by the CD Insert Photo (attractive), despite having owned "Best of" which has all but One Song here. I noticed the Year (1999) of release, and decided the Sound might be an improvement on My Older Disc. There are only 8 songs on this CD ("Best of" doubles that), but the best of the best are here, and besides, I sometimes have a problem with longer Discs...That is, My listening attention is usually 30 to 50 minutes at a time, at least for any ONE Cd, so I'm usually programming the CD to that time range, and playing the best cuts anyway. With that in mind, I figured I could play this CD straight through without lifting the Laser, which I did this afternoon. My one worry was that they might drop the "single" version of "Respect Yourself" in here (which loses the "doo wop" refrain in the middle, and is inferior), but fortunately the whole Song is intact, and, Yes, I noticed improved, fuller sound...in Summary, a Gamble that paid off...Now, if we can only get a Staples Compilation with "Let's do it Again" added, that would be the Bomb!!!

Beautiful Harmonies.......2004-02-15

Even if you don't normally listen to gospel music, these songs will leave you feeling uplifted. This is an example of the Forester Sisters doing what they do best. The harmonies are heavenly. I enjoy my copy of this CD so much that I purchased another copy for a friend who is having a health crisis. She said the music really lifts her spirits. She listens to it every day.

OH my happy childhood days. I remember when I was 6 and 7 years old my mom use to play this in her car when we use to be heading to the beach. These songs are so great that when we finally reach the beach and we are taking a bath in the sea and having fun these songs use to be ringing in my ears. Oh what happy days they were. My favorites in the days was Uncloudy day, Old time religion, Turn your radio on, Lily of the valley, and When i get to that train the station in the sky. Those songs was my favourites that right now while I am writing this tears are coming to my eyes that I miss those old days in 1989 and 1990. But ohwell I am not God to bring back those days. So if you love country music and you're thinking of a gospel country music buy this!

This recording is a favorite with my husband and me. We take it on trips so we can listen in the car. No road rage here! We also listen to it every Sunday. The hymns and family harmony take me back to my roots. Their version of "Amazing Grace" is the best I've ever heard. I probably need to order another copy before I wear out my present one.

A truly emotion evoking album.......1999-01-01

I have listened to this CD and could not help but cry at the gorgeous harmony of all my gospel favorites. This was purely accidental listening to this CD as I am strictly a country fan but my sister had this cd in her car playing. It really surprised me, my reaction to it.

When Randy Travis blew into town, Country Music finally got off of it's knees and took it's place back at the front of the line. Thank God for Randy, Dwight, Patty, Marty, and George Strait. This album covers those Travis numbers that topped the charts, and when you listen to this CD, you'll soon realize why they reached number 1. Included here are "1982", "Look Heart", and "Diggin up Bones"...all great traditional country hits. But my personal Randy Travis favorite is his cover of Sonny James' "It's Just a Matter of Time". Many compared Randy to George Jones, and he did in fact carry forward some of Jones' syle; but there was no doubt that Randy was more influenced by Lefty Frizzel. This is a great album, well worth your money.

First, I second the statement of the previous reviewer,that Randy Travis may be the most underappreciated (and in some Nashville circles...with the exception of the print media)underrated artist,to every hit the streets of Nashville.
Not until his recent release,"Live..It Was Just A Matter Of Time" have I enjoyed an album more. Every one of the songs here on "Greatest #1 Hits, is a clear example of what good music, and talent can provide.Hours upon hours of enjoyable listening pleasure!

Now on Live" one can hear the continued allegience to what country music use to sound like. More importantly,you will quickly come to understand, why this particular artist has been able to endure, when so many others have long faded into the fartherest recesses of our memories.

If you love this Greatest #1 Hits,you will surly want "Live" which also comes in DVD format as well as CD,Cassette or VHS.
In finishing this review, I just want to say, Randy did the industry a favor once, now it is time for the Industry (including broadcasting) to do him one, and start playing this mans music once again,for all to hear and enjoy!
