The name Steve Roach has been synonymous with ambient music for years. His latest excursion into late-night musical improvisations explores the purely ethereal side of his signature style without percussion, except for the second track, "Spirit Moves." Even there, the rhythmic propulsion is gentle. The six compositions making up this 74-minute epic have been fashioned from Ebow, electric guitar, and various digital processing gear. Yet, while the instrumental origins of the album are electric and electronic, the end results are organic, as if they were literally streaming forth from the composer's subconscious. As with many Roach recordings, the music twists and weaves in abstract ways, traversing a ghostly path through one's imagination. As an aural narcotic, it is certainly an effective stress-reliever. Although the guitar sounds add a fresher element to Streams & Currents, the album ultimately does not break much new ground in this composer's massive catalog, but Roach's disciples will certainly find much to enjoy while journeying along its shadowy sonic trails. --Bryan Reesman

You will think an angel kissed you as one of the original female soul singers in New Orleans presents a collection of traditional hymns. Now immersed in a group and personal music ministry, Beryl offers her "most requested" hymns that you will love to sing (lyrics provided). A MIDI masterpiece, Beryl utilized a Roland XP-50 workstation, computer electronics and Cakewalk to sequence instrumental accompaniments in MIDI format, with vocal tracks added in her home studio. Completed tracks were then professionally mastered and pressed to offer this product to you. The title (original) song "Like The Seagull" was written by David Caruso, Jr., Beryl's brother. This CD links her profound love of music with faith in God. Her goal: To touch hearts, and with music enhance the intimacy of the faithful with their Creator. The songs included on Beryl's debut CD were personally chosen to reflect the emotional intensity of "passages" through life events. Having already faced the loss of a teenage daughter in an automobile accident years ago, recent years also brought the decline of health and eventual loss of both of her beloved parents. Several of these songs, including the title song, were actually sung at their funerals. Often requested in her music ministry, Beryl believes this collection of hymns are of special value to anyone who enjoys the calming peace of the musical church presence, to the faithful experiencing profound joy and thankfulness to God for blessings received, and also those who may be facing life challenges of their own, such as age, failing health, or the loss of a loved one.Album Review:
