I couldn't be happier with this Greatest Hits by Joe Stampley. It indeed has all his best hits..... I have them on albums (what's an album?) but now I have my favorites on one CD. It is everything a Joe Stampley fan could ask for in a Great Hits CD.

A lot of filler here. I have to admit that Joe was not a favorite of mine, and much of his music (including 1/2 of the selections on this album) are slow, dead-tired, remnants of the dying Nashville sound that endure through the early '70's. The few real hits (those songs we sing along with) are here as well, and the recordings are original and well mixed. Not a bad album, but it could have been 5-10 songs shorter and still have been complete. The duets with Moe Bandy at the end of the album are a much needed pick-me-up, and I find myself going straight to the last tracks quite often. But, if you're a big Joe Stampley fan, I have no doubt you'll enjoy this compilation.

I used to listen to albums of Moe and Joe when I was a teenager. Their songs had a lot of humor and "good old boy" type of lyrics. If you are a fan of Moe and Joe, I'd recommend the CD. They are still enjoyable and fun to listen to.

    For those of us who have been there, or just for those of us who can't get enough "70's country styling , A great mix of there duets , and a few solo hits of both moe and joe. This CD has a lot of "energy" packed into it. It certainly makes one want to be a good ole' boy as well !!

        4 out of 5 stars A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit British Invasion.......1999-04-27

        This is an unusual collection of mid-'60's country rock. It has the flavor of British Invasion and American mid-'60's pop, with a Southern accent. Joe Stampley's vocal style has a countrified r'n'b style, similar to Charlie Rich. Some of the songs are slow ballads, but others are gently rocking pop numbers, such as the fabulous toe-tapper, "Not So Long Ago," which features evocative Dick and DeeDee-style high backing vocals. That song alone is worth the price of the record. Joe went on to a fairly sucessful country career, but this early album shows him in the thick of rock, soul, and pop of the '60's era. A good record to have if you love the catchy melodies and insistent beat of the music of that time.
