4 out of 5 stars The best of nuevo wavo.......2002-04-09

The sounds of Joe King haven't aged as well as other 1980s novelty outfits, but this hard-to-find disc is a great find for Texas ex-pats and other JK fans. Best bits: 'Tears Been A Fallin" and "Let's Go."

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Tex-Mex Party!.......1999-03-25

Let this CD rip and fire up the blender! Joe "King" and "party in Texas" are spoken in the same breath. Great music from beginning to end! Sincere ballads like "Tears" to the upbeat "Party Weekend", this effort has it all!

5 out of 5 stars Are you kidding? This is THE KING of Tex Mex Party Rock!.......1998-10-17

Joe King still plays around Austin and Texas and this is the best of all his uptempo, irresistible songs! A must have for those who want to have a PARTY PARTY WEEKEND. His band is the B-52s of Texas, for sure!

5 out of 5 stars Joe The KING.......2007-04-12

This album was made before Joe formed the Crowns, his backing band for quite few albums after this one. It was recorded with the then cream of San Antonio "West Side" musicians including the great Rocky Morales on sax. I bought this on album when it was first released and was overjoyed to find it on CD. There's no "Extras" on this which is disappointing but it still rates 5 stars for it's rockin' good-time, bluesy, tex-mex ragged but right music. This is the stuff for parties and drinking. I cannot say that this is a technically great album or has any social or philasophical merit, it's just an album I truly LOVE. Visit Joe's website and find out more about him.

5 out of 5 stars Flaco Jimenez holds his place as the "Squeeze Box King".......2003-09-26

Flaco Jimenez has always been a pioneer in the world of Conjunto and Tejano music with his incredible musicianship and unique stylings .He is famous for blending the traditional Tex-Mex and Tejano style music by adding flavors of country and Rock and Roll guitar. This, together with his talking accordion, creates a new sound of music. Flaco's newest album "Squeeze Box King" , which he produced himself, is no different. There are very traditional sounding songs such as "En El Cielo No Hay Cervaza" which has a polka-like beat and a very strong accordion sound. Other tracks such as "La Rosa Negra" and "Soy Romantico" mix in more of a country flavored guitar sound with Flaco's traditional accordion sound. With such ingenious musical stylings it is no wonder that Flaco Jimenez has established himself as an icon in the world of Tex-Mex and Tejano music. I highly recommend this album to any Flaco fans or any one who is a fan of Tex-Mex and Tejano music.

5 out of 5 stars Tex Mex grows up.......1999-12-24

Bandito Rock is a superb effort wherein Joe King Carrasco eschews his farfisa laden "Party Doll" image in favor of something more substantial. This is a bracing blend of politics, freedom, culture, tex-mex and high-energy latino rock. High-energy being the operable words - each song is delivered with an urgency and passion quite rare in most popular music. Each song has its own character and feel, and all are strong on their own merits. "Kry Tuff" is one of those great 6/8 blues ballads that sound like they've been around forever. "Juarez and Zapata" and "Fuera Yanqui" are the cornerstones of the album and will have you singing along the first time you hear them. And "Banana".....I suppose it's one of those love it or hate it kind of songs, but it's great in a Brave Combo sort of way. And both it and "Pachuco Hop" are key to the pacing of the album as well as links to Joe KC's past. Each of Joe KC's albums merit attention, however this one stands alone, both in its scope and availability. If you ever run into his older stuff at a used vinyl sale by all means check it out. But don't pass up this opportunity to hear something really special.

3 out of 5 stars Too many throw aways.......1998-07-21

The album contains some excellent cuts. Best are "Bandido Rock", "Juarez and Zapata" and "Arriba Sandino". The Tex-Mex style remains as fun as ever. However, from a partyman like Joe who brought us such great, light hearted numbers as "Party Weekend" and "Yabba Ding Dang" it is a little hard to take the political overtones too seriously.

Also, the album contains some real clunkers. We could have skipped completely "Banana", "Chicano Town" and "Pacuco Hop". And Joe, could you please sing lyrics clearly?!

        Album Description

“Deep from the heart of Tex-Mex comes these early nuggets by His Royal Weirdness and his first serious edition of The Crowns cut in '79 in the basement of an Austin Texas radio station. Saucy dance music! What gems- no nonsense torpedoes with Carnival Kris Cummings' Farfisa organ (she studied with Professor Longhair & Huey Piano Smith). The wonder of the tape is the undiluted Tex-Mex essence of Carrasco's sound. Carrasco has never done it this hard. Down and Dirty."
